In 1970, Avon Books published a landmark anthology, “Science Fiction Hall of Fame,” featuring 26 classic short stories that represent landmark tales of the genre. The stories were voted on by the members of the new (at the time, in the late 1960s) organization Science Fiction Writers of America. In this series, I will be joined by a panel of guests to break down these stories and talk about the authors in the book. Steven Shaviro is a retired Wayne State professor, philosopher, and cultural critic whose areas of interest include film theory and Science Fiction He is the author of Fluid Futures. We go deep into the aythor's history, some of his other classic stories, the issue of Astounding that came out the month of Nazi surrender. I first learned of Dan Hawkins when  he was the head coach for my Alma Mater, Boise State University. From 2001-2005, Coach Hawkins was leading the Broncos on their journey during their 'growth phase' from a national perspective. While that era was not the first time Boise State had tasted massive success (Coach Hawkins will be the first to tell you that Boise State  has ALWAYS been a winning program), it was a time where the media deal allowed for the Broncos to be seen on a national level.  Ever since that time, I've followed Dan Hawkins and his journey through the coaching and broadcasting ventures he's been on. It seems that everywhere he goes, he leaves a mark! And today is a great opportunity to hear from him on his experiences.  What was it like leaving Boise State for Colorado, where his son, Cody (who is now the head coach at Idaho State University) and having to go through the ups and downs of that time in the (formerly known as) Big 12.  We talk about his CFL coaching experience and what it was like at the professional level with the hurdles you have to jump with the Canadian rules and strategies.  We also chat about his experience at UC Davis, where most recently Coach Hawkins coached from 2017-2023.  What are some of the lessons he's taken from his coaching journey? BYU-Idaho Radio is celebrating 40 years since KRIC went full power on May 1, 1984. That legacy lives on in KBYI. We're also celebrating our other radio stations from the past and present like KVIK, KWBH and KBYR. These interviews are with people connected to the radio stations from general managers to student employees and even the daughter of a longtime manager. This interview is with Jerry Miller who worked as a student manager for KVIK in the 1970s. He went on to work in radio in Idaho and Utah. He retired from Idaho State University in 2023 where he was "the voice of the Bengals" and the manager of KISU.

Jon Armstrong is an amazingly versatile performer, composer, educator and thinker. Perhaps that should come as no surprise, since as a young man in his home town in Oregon, Jon not only played in a Buddhist marching band but also worked 12 hour shifts in a diaper factory! After a highly successful career in LA, he now teaches at Idaho State University, where he's established a fantastic commercial music program, while still performing and composing and at an extremely high level.Jon grew up in Corvallis, Oregon, and at a very young age was already deeply involved in music, learning any instrument he could get his hands on and playing in a variety of groups.
