Adam Carroll is a freedom fighter, savvy from an investment standpoint, an entrepreneur, author, professional speaker, mentor, documentary filmmaker, and podcast host. He changes lives by helping people succeed faster by building a bigger life not a bigger lifestyle. He wrote the book, “The Build a Bigger Life Manifesto”. At an early age, Adam really loves the idea of making money and entrepreneurship. He lives like a rich college kid and then quickly becomes a broke professional because of debts. He wanted to live a life differently from his parents and free from debts. Until he read over 100 books in personal finance. Together with his future wife, he took a great leap. He started learning investing intelligently in real estate deals, alternatives investments, syndications, and being a lender for some people. The couple was so aggressive about paying off debt and how they could minimize their lifestyle. They used their existing income in an efficient manner to blast away compound interest debt until they saw a huge financial success. Currently, Adam is not only obsessed with debts but of how to bring value to the people in terms of building wealth, financial freedom, and financial literacy!    Some Questions I Ask: Where did your wealth-building journey start? What were some of the early AHAs that made the biggest difference for you at the beginning? How can someone go about auditing their lifestyle and finances while enjoying what they're doing but still purposeful of unlocking real wealth and financial freedom? How have you and your wife have found the synergies of both of your financial personalities coming together to create a common goal that both of you get to enjoy? What does your financial rhythm look like? What is your interpretation of what good and bad debt is? What is the Shred Method? What do you see out there that you're paying close attention to when it comes to financial opportunities or threats?   In This Episode, You Will Learn: The 4 legacies for future generations Adam's takeaway in life Lifestyle design: life versus lifestyle Common sources of couple's financial friction How to make your home an asset and not a liability The Savings Analysis: How to quickly get out from debt The magic of HELOC The future of cryptocurrency and NFTs    Quotes: “Financial freedom leads to time freedom.” “Time freedom creates relationship freedom.” “Our deployment is our service to humanity.” “There are just so many ways to make money but the only way to make money is to have money to put to work.” “How big your why is, determines how big your life is.” “If you want to change the fruits, you must first change the roots.” “Well, if you want it, we'll just get it, we'll figure it out.” “Wealth is made in the crock pot not in the microwave.” “You have to have a bigger life, not a bigger lifestyle.”    Resources Mentioned:  Rich Dad Poor Dad book by Robert Kiyosaki Rich Dads Cashflow Quadrant book by Robert Kiyosaki Think and Grow Rich book by Napoleon Hill The Wealthy Barber book David Chilton How to Be a Billionaire book by Martin Fridson Secrets of the Millionaire Mind book by T. Have you thought of enjoying a lifestyle you want that allows you time and financial freedom to keep the right balance of business and family life? In this episode, our guest Josh Stevenson shares his journey from being a teacher to a full-time real estate investor - what property deals he got into and the strategies he employed to grow to an 87-unit portfolio and enjoys his freedom. Josh Stevenson has been a property investor for 14 years now. He started in Barrie, Ontario, where he house hacked his first duplex. And then he moved back to his hometown of Orilla, Ontario, where he's been away for about 20 years as he travelled the world for many years and taught English. He came home to Canada and opened an English school that was later shut down by SARS, and started his career in real estate investing from then on. We deal with credit unions now. I found that credit unions are actually way better lenders, and they don't have as strict rules as conventional banks." - Josh Stevenson "You know the 1% rule, that has been the golden rule for us. My guest today is not your traditional fix and flip guy. He’s not even a wholesaler. Scott Meyers applied his winning real estate investment strategy to self-storage! Which is amazing to think about because many of us have probably never even considered self-storage as an option. But for investing, self-storage is extremely lucrative. And in today’s episode Scott Meyers shares his strategies and how self-storage investment is practically recession proof. Scott did get his start with wholesales, short sales, and rentals, but with the dot-com crash in the late 90s and the housing crashing in the mid-2000s, Scott wanted to try something different. He was sick of taking the risks on the banks and the tenants and knew there had to be a safe way to do what he loved in real estate while minimizing the risk to his investments. He listened to his wife and decided to invest in storage units. He’s developed and purchased over 5000 units, out in the middle of nowhere, all across the country, and now he’s looking to develop and convert existing facilities that are in the need of modernization. There are so many different options for real estate investment that you really can’t go wrong, especially when you put your mind and your heart into something that’s so important to you and your family. MINUTE MARKERS 5:16 - How did Scott get involved in real estate and, really, self-storage investment? 7:45 - Who was one of Scott’s biggest influences in investment? 9:45 - Scott lost his 401K and that was his breaking point 10:40 - Scott proudly quit his part-time job 11:00 - But how did his wife take it? 12:46 - What moved Scott from real estate investing in homes into self-storage? 16:46 - Why does Scott love real estate investing? 18:00 - How is self-storage almost recession proof? 20:18 - Scott’s big profit master investing strategies for self-storage 22:05 - How much interest is on the land compared to the development of self-storage units? 25:00 - Does a mailer list of self-storage units exist out there? 27:13 - The big lessons that got Scott to where he’s at today 30:22 - If he had to start over again, Scott would listen to himself more 35:51 - Scott’s favorite motivational business quotes 36:30 - Scott gives you permission to go find some different friends 39:14 - Scott recommends his favorite book 40:05 - Guess Scott’s dog’s name! 41:19 - Scott’s favorite mobile apps 42:30 - Which app does Scott use every day in his business? 43:14 - Why does Scott wake up at 4:09 every morning? 45:40 - Does Scott get 8 hours of sleep? 46:22 - What is Scott most grateful for? 47:11 - When should we start getting a mentor or coach? 48:50 - Who said ‘hire great people and get out of the way’? 51:00 - A golden nugget of advice from Scott’s favorite mentor 54:05 - What drives Scott to succeed? 55:08 - What does Scott mean when he says “mission-minded business”? 58:38 - Get in touch with Scott at www.selfstorageinvesting.com QUOTES “Cash flow is the name of the game.” Scott “At the end of the day, get a coach, get a mentor, and then listen to what they say.” Scott RESOURCES Scott’s Website: Self Storage Investing The Candlestick Course by Steve Nison Art of the Deal by Donald Trump Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill Good to Great by Jim Collins The E-Myth by Michael Gerber Carleton Sheets Jim Rohn Richard Brannson Uber TVFoodMaps Slack Skype Airmail Infusionsoft Sweet Process Homes of Hope   Ask Cory A Question Want to get in touch with Cory and ask him your most burning Real Estate Investing question?  We’ve made it super easy for you.  Just head over to our Ask Cory A Question page and start recording.  Cory will play your question live on an upcoming show and answer it personally. Without a roadmap, you'll never know where you're going. But even with one, some routes will get you to your destination faster than others. My guest today is author, speaker, coach, and radio personality Lane Ethridge, the founder of Changing Lanes International. His business helps other businesses find more success – while helping the leaders of those businesses live life “in the fast lane” so they can get to their destination sooner. Lane tells me in this episode that many leaders follow what they think will bring them money, rather than what they really want to do. The trick is, Lane says, that when leaders follow their gut they more often find success. If your plan to become successful is a roadmap, Lane says your gut feelings act a GPS – providing directions and helping you get where you want to go in the shortest time possible. But too many people quickly driving forward still spend too much time looking back, wondering if they're on the best route to success. Business owners, Lane says, will have more success if they stop looking in the rearview. Our hindsight can become somebody else's foresight. @misceLANEeous via @RustyLionAcad #mentorship #coaching No matter how well you drive, though, life in the fast lane is going to come with a few bug splats on the windshield. Remember – those ugly smears only take up a small portion of the glass. You can make the smears worse by staring at them too intently, or even by turning on the windshield wipers to “fix” the problem. “Whether a ‘bug' is cancer, death, or bankruptcy, we focus so long on that we forget we should be doing something else,” Lane tells me. “Our distraction makes us forget where we're going even though 99 percent of the windshield is still clear.” Want to hear Lane talk about these concepts – and many more – that could help put your life in the fast lane? Use the player above. Listen to this episode to hear me speak with Lane Ethridge, founder of Changing Lanes International about life in the fast lane and more: The difference between tests in school and life. What you have to do to earn money in life. Being conned out of $20,000. Distractions that hold many leaders back. Why success sometimes come after your biggest failures. The thing you own that is your best vehicle to success. Getting fired six times by the same man and still going to work for him. The reason Lane carried a yardstick everywhere with him for 400 days. Read these books to help you live life in the fast lane: “Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!” by Robert Kiyosaki “Think and Grow Rich,” by Napoleon Hill and Arthur Pell “Three Feet from Gold: Turn Your Obstacles in Opportunities,” by Sharon L.
