Summary Dr. David Rosenblum delivered a comprehensive lecture on gender differences in opiate effects and prescribing practices. He discussed several key studies examining how opiates affect males and females differently, both in animal models and humans. Dr. Rosenblum shared findings showing that morphine has stronger analgesic effects in males, while females experience longer-lasting effects. He also addressed racial disparities in opiate prescribing, noting that white patients are more likely to receive opiates. From his personal clinical experience in Brooklyn, Dr. Rosenblum observed that certain populations tend to be at higher risk for opiate abuse. The lecture covered gender-specific risk factors for opiate misuse, with women tending toward emotional/psychological factors and men showing more behavioral issues. Pain Management Board Prep Ultrasound Training REGISTER TODAY! Chapters Introduction and Upcoming Conferences Dr. Rosenblum introduced himself as the host of the Pain Exam Podcast and announced several upcoming conferences including ASPN in July, PainWeek in September, and other events where he will be teaching ultrasound and regenerative medicine. Board Preparation and Opiate Topics Dr. Rosenblum discussed his role in board preparation through painxam.com and nreppain.org. He emphasized that opiates are a frequently tested topic across different board examinations (FIP, ABPM, ABIP, ABA). Gender Differences in Opiate Effects - Animal Studies Dr. Rosenblum presented research showing that in animal studies, morphine exhibited stronger analgesic effects in males, while females showed longer-lasting effects and could tolerate higher doses. He noted that physical dependence was more severe in male rats during spontaneous withdrawal. Racial and Gender Disparities in Opiate Prescribing Dr. Rosenblum discussed a 2025 study revealing racial disparities in opiate prescribing, with white patients more likely to receive opiates. He shared his personal clinical experience in Brooklyn, noting that young white males were often higher-risk for abuse. Gender-Specific Risk Factors for Opiate Misuse Dr. Rosenblum detailed how women tend to show emotional and psychological risk factors for opiate misuse, while men demonstrate more behavioral risk factors. Women were more likely to report distress and past trauma, while men showed higher rates of criminal behavior and substance abuse history. References Djurendic-Brenesel, Maja, et al. Wir reden in dieser Folge über die Verbreitung von Missinformation, Desinformation und Fake News zum Thema Erderwärmung und Global Warming. Hosted on Acast. People often ask me, "Tripp, in 17 years of podcasting, what's your favorite interview?" I can never answer the question because there are so many different kinds of interviews. I love episodes with my scholarly friends who repeatedly return to the podcast, but for this nerd, I am thrilled to introduce listeners to scholars who rocked my world. In this episode, I talk with a legend in science and religion, Dr. Robert McCauley. He is a pioneer in the cognitive science of religion, and his work has greatly impacted the academic community. It was an honor to unpack so many themes in his work and I can't wait for y'all to hear it! Robert N. McCauley is William Rand Kenan Jr. University Professor of Philosophy at Emory University and the founding Director of Emory's Center for Mind, Brain, and Culture. He is the author of Why Religion Is Natural and Science Is Not and Philosophical Foundations of the Cognitive Science of Religion. He is also the co-author, with E. Thomas Lawson, of Rethinking Religion and Bringing Ritual to Mind. With George Graham, he co-authored Hearing Voices and Other Matters of the Mind: What Mental Abnormalities Can Teach Us About Religions. He has been elected president of both the Society for Philosophy and Psychology and the International Association for the Cognitive Science of Religion, and he will serve as a Gifford Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen in 2021. Are you new to the cognitive science of religion? If so, you won't want to miss Bob's regular columns at Psychology Today. In this conversation, we discuss... the origin of the cognitive science of religion implicit cognition and its role in studying religion the anthropological story of religion's birth why religion is natural, and science is not how literacy reshapes human cognition and the shape of religion the changing role of science in the study of religion the power of explanatory pluralism what light on religious practice and experience is gained through the application of an evolutionary lens the different evolutionary theories of religion and how they interact with the developmental psychology how CSR can be a tool for understanding culture Here's the video of Bob's Gifford Lecture with the slides he mentioned in the conversation. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Začíná druhá vlna Milostivého léta, oddlužovací akce, díky které se lidé mohou zbavit exekucí u státních a veřejných institucí. Stačí zaplatit jistinu a odměnu exekutorovi, zbývající dluhy budou odpuštěny.
Insects are seldom mentioned in discussions surrounding human history, yet they have dramatically impacted today's societies. The Silken Thread: Five Insects and Their Impacts on Human History (Oxford UP, 2021) places them front and center, offering a multidisciplinary view of their significance. Diseases vectored by insects have killed more people than all weapons of war. Fleas are common pests, but some can transmit illnesses such as the bubonic plague. In fact, three pandemics can be traced back to them. Epidemics of typhus have been caused by lice. Conversely, humans have also benefitted from insects for millennia. Silk comes from silkworms and honey comes from bees. Despite the undeniably powerful effects of insects on humans, their stories are typically left out of our history books. In The Silken Thread, entomologists Robert. N. Wiedenmann and J. Ray Fisher link the history of insects to the history of empires, cultural exchanges, and warfare. The book narrows its focus to just five insects: a moth, a flea, a louse, a mosquito, and a bee. The authors explore the impact of these insects throughout time and the common threads connecting them. Using biology to complement history, they showcase these small creatures in a whole new light. On every page, the authors thoughtfully analyze the links between history and entomology. The book begins with silkworms, which have been farmed for centuries. It then moves to fleas and their involvement in the spread of the plague before introducing the role lice played in the Black Death, wars, and immigration. The following section concerns yellow fever mosquitos, emphasizing the effects of yellow fever in the Americas and the connection to sugar and slavery. After discussing the importance of western honey bees, the authors tie these five insects together in an exciting closing chapter. Galina Limorenko is a doctoral candidate in Neuroscience with a focus on biochemistry and molecular biology of neurodegenerative diseases at EPFL in Switzerland. Learn more about your ad choices.
