Dale Earnhardt Jr. relives the 2001 24 Hours of Daytona as he sits down with Andy Pilgrim, Kelly Collins and Doug Fehan. As the Corvette racing program began to take shape in the early 2000s, Dale Jr. and his father Dale Earnhardt turned the racing world on its side by taking part in the crown jewel sports car event. Doug and Andy explain that the partnership actually formulated a year earlier when the team won the Petit Le Mans. Dale Sr. wrote Andy a letter congratulating him on the win and his impressive pass to do so, while expressing interest in teaming up. Corvette reached out through Gary Claudio, who had experience working with NASCAR through Pontiac's program and the deal was set for the 2001 running at Daytona. The guys recount the testing sessions at Sebring and Daytona leading up to the race and help paint a picture of Dale Sr. that listeners may be unfamiliar with. Dale Jr. recalls crashing the car immediately in his first session, as he set out to run it like his stock car. He explains that the tires needed a gradual warm up instead of a quick onset like he was used to, and it caught him off guard. Dale Sr. was all in on the experience and insisted on being involved in every meeting and decision surrounding the partnership. Dale Jr. shares a story about practicing driver swaps with his father during a NASCAR Cup weekend to help prepare them for their upcoming sports car debut. The interview also breaks down the race weekend, the plans to continue on with Corvette in the future and what the teammates have been up to in the years that followed. What do you get for the episode that has everything? This cut of the Garage Hour with Justin, Justmark and Justcaleb even sports a backup Caleb (in the form of his sensible son Liam), who schools the newbs on smart kid firearm rules, and Justmark on MySpace humor. Just to be thorough, there's a race report from this year's 24 Hours at Daytona, a range report on an almost-on M24 in .308 and a never-off Weatherby Vanguard in 7mm-08, a reloading report featuring Hornaday, Vargit, AA, boat-tails, NATO M80s and fire-formed brass, and a wayout report on what old hamburgers and Jap bombs from WW2 have in common. It's in there: advice for children about guns (from a kid who appears to know well enough), Green Street and McCurdy's Bodyworks in Pasadena, the best (and least) U.S. presidents, plus rye bread.

It's the episode we originally meant to upload last week until... something else came up. Sorry about that! In this edition of the show, we take care of the other major breaking news story of last week, Andretti's bid of getting on the grid for 2026 being rejected by F1's management wing. Where do they go from there, and will they persue the 2028 Grid instead with FOM leaving that option out there? And finally, a full review of the 24 Hours of Daytona as Porsche won a heated 23 hour and 58 minute battle with Cadillac's #31 car with Tom Blomqvist gunning for Porsche's Felipe Nasr right at the very end. We talk about that almost race long fight, as well as the other big picks of RJ's #01 Cadillac suffering another failure, as well as the #10 Acura's explosion in the night as well. We also talk about LMP2 with a Lieger that went horribly wrong (Like, bringing out five cautions wrong), as well as an impressive win for ERA Motorsport and IndyCar's Christian Rasmussen leading the charge, as well as a dominant win in GTD Pro for RISI Competizione and Ferrari! ...And just how did a 24 hour race end 2 minutes early anyway? All that and more on another Motorsport101!
