Ricky Taylor has amassed championships and race wins in the top level of sports car racing. Currently driving for Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti in the Acura ARX-06 GTP car, he scored a victory at the 2024 Detroit Grand Prix and a podium with his co-driver Felipe Albuquerque at Road America. We met up with Ricky at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach Media Day where he was kind enough to give me a few hot laps in the Acura Integra Type S DE5 race car. Being a Fast Lane instructor, I'm always learning something whenever I get on the racetrack either as a driver or sitting right seat. In this instance, I learned that this top level professional driver is human after all and can make a mistake. I asked him about it, and he admitted it and gave the reason why and what happened. He is a true professional, humble, polite and extremely talented. His “debrief” of this session is fascinating and he explains how he's learning a new race car on a race track that's only used once a year. A real insider's look into a track session debrief. Enjoy! NOTE: Ricky Taylor and his teammate will be going for victory in the Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on October 12, 2024.
Felipe Albuquerque is a multi-time championship winning driver and races the Acura ARX-06 GTP car in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti (with teammate Ricky Taylor). We caught up with Albuquerque at the media luncheon just prior to the race at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. In this podcast interview, he gives us a fascinating insight into simulator prep work and specifically for this event. He goes into some detail between the Honda Driver in the Loop (DIL) sim versus iRacing. This is also a good interview for kids to listen to as he talks about how valuable his education was and how it has impacted his racing career. Enjoy! NOTE: Albuquerque and Taylor would go on to win the Detroit Grand Prix this season and score a podium (third) at Mid-Ohio in August. Going into the final race of the season, the Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on October 9-12, 2024, he currently sits sixth in the championship standings.
Tonight, on Trackside, we have a lot of news to talk about! Kevin and Curt start the show by talking about Keanu Reeves racing at IMS. They discuss Rossi moving to Ed Carpenter Racing, and how he can help Ed Carpenter Racing become a better team. They also talk about Christian Rasmussen going to ECR as well. They debate on who will be in the Juncos lineup, and Jamie Chadwick's test at IMS. Kevin talks about how she could benefit from another year of Indy NXT. Later, Kevin and Curt talk about the big news that Michael Andretti has stepped down from his leadership role at Andretti. They talk about who will take over in Andretti's stead, and what will happen to the team's name. They speculate if the reason Andretti stepped down was because of F1 refusing to have the Andretti branding. They also discuss Wayne Taylor Racing removing the Andretti name from their branding. To round out the first hour, Kevin previews the next hour. In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt look at some tweets by fans. They talk about the group that Zak Brown and Michael Andretti formed called Andretti Acquisition Corp. II, and what the purpose of the organization is. Could it be to buy IndyCar? They also answer a question about other investors being added to IndyCar to help with growing the series. They also talk about the schedule, and the importance of avoiding football. Later, Kevin and Curt talk about the likelihood of returning to some previous tracks that fans have been vying for several seasons. They talk about if they will ever go back to Phoenix and Watkins Glen. They also talk about the possibility of Daniel Riccardo racing IndyCar, and his fear of ovals. To end the show, Kevin reviews what they missed, including if the IMS oval test will be open to the public. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

One of America's most successful open-wheel racers on a global stage, Alexander Rossi has carved out a career as one of IndyCar's most compelling drivers. After making five F1 race starts for Manor Marussia in 2015, he stepped back into a reserve role there for 2016 to race for Michael Andretti and Bryan Herta stateside; the partnership paid off with an Indianapolis 500 win in their first try. Giving up his F1 role for good the next year, Rossi spent seven seasons with Andretti, took eight wins, and finished second in points in 2018 before switching to Arrow McLaren for the 2023 season. Outside of IndyCar, he also won the 2021 24 Hours of Daytona alongside Filipe Albuquerque, Helio Castroneves, and Ricky Taylor for Wayne Taylor Racing.Listen Now: Check out this episode featuring Alexander from January 2021! (00:00-23:35) – Query & Company opens on a Thursday with Jake Query and Jimmy Cook recapping their experiences at the sporting events that they attended yesterday. This sparks a conversation that Jake and Jimmy have pertaining to the future of an MLS team coming to Indianapolis. Additionally, they discuss some things they are going to monitor during the final preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles for the Indianapolis Colts. (23:35-37:54) – Jimmy and Jake come back from break discussing the situation that Jonathan Taylor is in regarding the financial numbers he could be seeking compared to what he could be getting offered. IMSA Driver Ricky Taylor of Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport joins the program in studio to explain the night activity that's been going on at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, what it's like racing on the road course in IMSA, the relationship that he has with Helio Castroneves and some of the other drivers he's worked with, and what it's like to be driving with his brother again for the same team. (37:54-45:15) – Jake and Jimmy close out the first hour of the show by discussing the compensation that the Indianapolis Colts are wanting in return for Jonathan Taylor. They note the teams that have had reported interest in JT's services. (45:15-1:08:42) – The second hour of the program starts off with Jake and Jimmy discussing the report that the relationship between Jonathan Taylor and the Colts is beyond repair. Jake thought it was widely known that was the case, but he explains why it's something that doesn't get talked about enough. He and Jimmy debate how much they'd be willing to pay the 2021 rushing leader. (1:08:42-1:20:48) – During a break earlier in the show, Jake, Jimmy, and producer Eddie Garrison were discussing what their favorite genres of music are. This sparked the three of them to get into a debate of how to define classic rock. Jake finally convinces Jimmy as to how it should be defined. (1:20:48-1:24:55) – The one o'clock hour concludes with Jake and Jimmy taking one call from a very optimistic fan stating that the Colts can make it to the Super Bowl in year one with Anthony Richardson. (1:35:43-2:00:52) – Former ESPN anchor Sage Steele joins Query & Company with Jake Query and Jimmy Cook to explain her departure from ESPN after 16+ years doing a variety of roles, how Instagram has helped other people express the same problems she was going through as someone who was seen in the public eye with so many things going on in her personal life, and how she feels about being able to be around her kids more now that her run at ESPN has come to an end. (2:00:52-2:03:16) – Jake and Jimmy come back from break and reflect on living in dorms at IU because Jake keeps seeing move in pictures of students not staying in on-campus dorms. (2:003:17-2:06:21) – Today's show ends with Jake asking Jimmy for the JCook Plays of the Day and some notes from a former NFL QB as to what to watch with Anthony Richardson tonight.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Surprise! We got another bonus episode for you in the cooker! And with RJ O'Connell repping Daily Sportscar, we felt like it was only fitting to get a podcast special in with both Sebring Endurance races - The new WEC Season Opener; the 1000 Miles of Sebring (That never goes 1000 Miles), and IMSA's 12 Hours of Sebring! Ferrari snagged a pole in their WEC Debut! But Toyota came through to eventually dominate the proceedings. We talk their run, Ferrari's debut that didn't include "honsing", and how Peugeot completely shat the bed in their big league debut. Good lord, that was rough. We also talk IMSA's 12 Hours, that had Jack Aitken come through and steal one after we got a huge wreck with just 30 minutes left that had both Porsche's and Wayne Taylor Racing's #10 car wipe out in a ridiculous racing incident. And IndyCar's own Scott McLaughlin ended up on the overall podium! How was the racing? And should the series move away from Sebring as a whole with Indianapolis and COTA slated to join?! More on all of that in an hour of Sportscars on Motorsport101!
Sorry this one was a little later than planned, we've been a bit spread out over the last week or so, normal service will resume soon! But here's our review on the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, and all within it as a new chapter in sportscar racing began! And yet, some things didn't change! Meyers Shank retained the crown in a 1-2 for Acura, with the #10 of Wayne Taylor Racing close behind as a 24 hour race became a 24 minute sprint at the bell! We also talk LMP2, a crazy class where the "Bus Bros" clashed with overall winner Simon Pagenaud and the class victory was determined by... 0.016 seconds in an incredible comeback for James Allen (No, not that one!) We also talk about Porsche's struggles with their new prototype, Maro Engel committing more violence enroute to another class win, the battles in GTD, the baptism of fire for the BMW's, and the new Porsche 911's getting BOP'ed into oblivion. Enjoy!

How did Wayne Taylor sign Fernando Alonso and Kamui Kobayashi to drive his Cadillac DPi-V.R at Daytona? What does he think of his son Jordan's social media profile? Is he interested in fielding an IndyCar Series effort, and will his team assist McLaren at the Indy 500? And would Wayne Taylor Racing continue if both his sons left to drive for other IMSA teams? The South African WeatherTech SportsCar Championship team owner pays a visit to the Marshall Pruett Podcast for an episode of Catching Up With Wayne Taylor to answer those questions an more ahead of the Roar Before The 24. On this episode of the Autoweek Podcast, host Rory Carroll guides Mike Pryson and Wesley Wren through the terrible Formula 1 race in Spain and Ford’s recent dominance in NASCAR. Before dissecting why the Spanish GP was bad, the team is joined by Jimmy Pelizzari by telephone to talk about his reconnaissance laps of the Southern Ohio Forest Rally. When Jimmy isn’t talking about F1 on the podcast, or doing his actual job at Autoweek, he races a Subaru 2.5RS in various stage rallies around the Midwest. Jimmy gives a firsthand account of the stages of the Southern Ohio event, as well as insight into what it’s like to go rally racing. Afterward, Robin Warner, Mike and Jimmy interview Wayne Taylor Racing’s Jordan Taylor. Jordan talks about his life of racing and watching his brother leave his team, and tells some stories about his early racing career. Jordan also talks about how demanding the different races of the year can be, with their vastly different race lengths. Following the interview, Graham Kozak leads a discussion about the 2019 Bentley Continental GT with Robin, Jake Lingeman and Wesley. The crew dives deep into the Bentley’s new bones and talk about what makes it special. They also pit it against other notable grand tourers in a hypothetical purchasing situation. Closing the show, they talk about the Bentley’s insane rotating infotainment screen.
Ed Potkanowicz joins me to talk about the work he does with Wayne Taylor Racing drivers, Jordan Taylor, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Renger van der Zande regarding core body temperature, heart rate and stress to help them improve their performance. What he’s learned from working with elite-level pro drivers, and shares in this podcast will help you drive better and safer. Ed is an Associate Professor of Exercise Physiology at Ohio Northern University where he focuses on “driver science” – the objective and scientific examination of the driver’s physiological response to the cockpit from which data-based recommendations can be made to improve driver safety, tolerance and performance.
