Dale Earnhardt Jr. relives the 2001 24 Hours of Daytona as he sits down with Andy Pilgrim, Kelly Collins and Doug Fehan. As the Corvette racing program began to take shape in the early 2000s, Dale Jr. and his father Dale Earnhardt turned the racing world on its side by taking part in the crown jewel sports car event. Doug and Andy explain that the partnership actually formulated a year earlier when the team won the Petit Le Mans. Dale Sr. wrote Andy a letter congratulating him on the win and his impressive pass to do so, while expressing interest in teaming up. Corvette reached out through Gary Claudio, who had experience working with NASCAR through Pontiac's program and the deal was set for the 2001 running at Daytona. The guys recount the testing sessions at Sebring and Daytona leading up to the race and help paint a picture of Dale Sr. that listeners may be unfamiliar with. Dale Jr. recalls crashing the car immediately in his first session, as he set out to run it like his stock car. He explains that the tires needed a gradual warm up instead of a quick onset like he was used to, and it caught him off guard. Dale Sr. was all in on the experience and insisted on being involved in every meeting and decision surrounding the partnership. Dale Jr. shares a story about practicing driver swaps with his father during a NASCAR Cup weekend to help prepare them for their upcoming sports car debut. The interview also breaks down the race weekend, the plans to continue on with Corvette in the future and what the teammates have been up to in the years that followed. In this heartfelt episode of The Lighthouse Podcast, hosts Chris Woodruff and Christy Richards sit down with Amy Jo Osborn, co-founder of the Austin Hatcher Foundation. Amy Jo shares the deeply personal journey that led her and her husband, Jim, to start the foundation after the loss of their first-born son, Austin, to cancer. What began as unimaginable grief grew into a mission to help other families navigate life after a childhood cancer diagnosis. Their goal is to see families thrive—not merely survive—through holistic care and support. Amy Jo opens up about the early days of the Austin Hatcher Foundation, from its beginnings in 2006 to now serving over 90,000 children and families across 24 states and 42 hospitals. She and the hosts explore the critical need for mental health resources for families touched by pediatric cancer. Listeners will gain insight into the foundation's unique events, such as the Petit Le Mans weekend, which offers moments of healing through diversionary therapy. The episode wraps with practical advice for families seeking support, as Amy Jo explains how they can get involved with the Austin Hatcher Foundation. With Lighthouse Family Retreat embedded in her own story, Amy Jo reflects on how both organizations have become intertwined in her life. NASCAR Tripleheader at Talladega Richard had an impressive victory in the Cup race, especially after a dramatic 28-car incident with just four laps to go that affected many top contenders, including Gumby Cindric. We saw a lot of excitement around the DVP policy, along with some challenges in the pack and fuel mileage racing in a tight four-wide situation for a couple of hours. As we look ahead to the Roval Cutoff, the points situation is definitely heating up. Sammy Smith pulled off an amazing from-last-to-first performance with a timely win in Xfinity! Unfortunately, Sam Mayer faced some difficulties and was disqualified, while Allgaier is still working through his issues. The points are really important as we approach the Roval. In a heartfelt moment for Oldsmobile, Grant Enfinger secured their first win in Trucks and their first win in NASCAR since 1992! It's great to see most of the playoff drivers, except Nick Sanchez, making their way into the Top 14. The points race is getting exciting as we head to Homestead. IndyCar News Michael Andretti has shared a thoughtful letter with fans as he transitions from his role as CEO of his team to Towriss. Exciting news: the series plans to race in Arlington, TX, in 2026, around the iconic Cowgirls stadium and the Globe Life Field for the Rangers! NFL Week Five is upon us, both in real life and fantasy, and we can't wait to recap our first matchup in the FallBrawl! GSP Roundup MotoGP has wrapped up its event in Japan, while NHRA had an exciting race in Dallas. Supercars are gearing up for the Bathurst 1000, and there's a new format coming for 2025 that fans will love! IMSA's Petit Le Mans is right around the corner, along with updates on teams and cars for 2025. As we preview NASCAR Cup & XFinity at The Roval, it will be interesting to see who makes it to the round of eight! Josh's Sim Segment Show Close
Welcome to our motorsports podcast where we discuss F1, IndyCar, IMSA, NASCAR, our own racing adventures, and some other adventures!NASCAR had it's final race of the Round of 12 where Larson took the win at the Charlotte Roval after a great move for the lead at the newly configured hairpin turn. We will note that for one great pass that was made it seemed that there were 3-4 terribly executed passes that resulted in one car taking out another one....rubbin is racing apparently.IMSA capped its season off with Petit Le Mans which had a dramatic final two hours and even more so dramatic moment with 5 minutes to go where the leading Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac nearly completed an entire lap with NO headlights! The car was having an issue where its headlights were flickering on/off intermittently but luckily they stayed on long enough for the race stewards to give them the okay to continue. A pit stop that late in the race to fix the issue surely would have costed them the win. GTD Pro also had some championship drama as the Heart of Racing Aston Martin finished one place lower than they needed to in order to take the championship over the AO Racing Porsche which had a mechanical issue of it's own that set it back 5 laps down to the GTD Pro leaders.Supercars had their Great Race! The Bathurst 1000! And a great race it was as there was only 3 cautions that happened during the entire race. Great job by everyone to get the cars to the finish.Coming up this weekend: NASCAR is at Las Vegas for it's first race of three in the Round of 8. Formula One returns from it's Fall break with a race at COTA in Texas.
Tonight, Curt and Kevin recap IndyCar hybrid testing, and Petit Le Mans! They talk about how the Hybrid engine performed during testing, and Alexander Rossi's new position at Ed Carpenter. They also talk about Rinus Veekay testing instead of Sting Ray Robb. They also talk about Grosjean's future at Juncos, and his comment on rising costs with the hybrid. Later, they talk about Hailie Deegan moving to HMD Motorsports in the Indy NXT series. They talk about how popular she is on social media and how much exposure she'll bring to Indy NXT. They also talk about some other additions to Indy NXT. To round out the first hour, Kevin previews hour two. In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt break down the Arlington Grand Prix layout, and the big event Roger Penske did with the Cowboys and Rangers to promote the event last week. They also talk about the possibility of racing in Mexico. They also answer listener questions. Later, Kevin and Curt answer some listener questions, including which ovals are most likely to return to the schedule, and how enjoyable Petit Le Mans was this year. To end the show, Kevin recaps what they missed, and talks about Jackson Lee's race over the weekend. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
