Thank You to the Kimchi Crew Before we get into it, a genuine thank you to everyone who listens, supports the show, and keeps this community alive. You know who you are. We do this because we love it, and you make it worth doing. Now let's get into it. Detroit IMSA: BOP'd Into Irrelevance The Porsche GT3R at Detroit was so heavily Balance of Performance'd that it was barely a factor, and the prototype entries qualified so far back in such a short enduro format that catching up was a near-impossible ask before the green flag even dropped. But let's be honest with ourselves here: IMSA was on GM's side from the jump. The race is in Detroit, GM's backyard, and anyone paying attention could feel the gravitational pull toward keeping the home team looking good. This isn't new. The frustration with series organizers placating to manufacturers based on geography or politics is real, and it's a recurring stain on what should be a pure competition. When the racing result feels predetermined by the city it's held in, that's a problem worth calling out. The 911 Market Is Not Coming Back Down We touched the surface of this last episode when we talked about Mezger-engine GT3s drying up and the 993 price surge, but it's time to go deeper because the numbers are getting genuinely hard to rationalize. 997 Carrera S's: a green manual with 35k miles is asking $108k. Midnight blue, 55k miles, manual, asking $90k. For a Carrera S. Let that sit. 996 Turbos, which we've covered before, are now seeing 95k-mile manual cars asking $90k. The market logic here is that against the backdrop of new Porsche prices, these feel like deals to people entering the hobby. And look, we get it, but that doesn't make the numbers any less wild. The broader picture is this: if you are chasing a manual 911 of any generation, any configuration, the era of stumbling into a good deal is over. Base 991.1s with 50 to 80k miles are moving at $65k to $80k. Base Carrera, not an S, not a GTS. And before anyone says you can still find a reasonable 996 base 911 for $35k to $40k with 90k miles -- we'd push back hard on that. That is not a bargain. That is a lot of money for a car that will demand attention and investment. The "affordable 911" narrative needs to be retired. Here's the thing we want to be transparent about: there is zero financial incentive for us to tell you to go buy a car. We don't get a cut. But if you want a manual 911 and you're sitting on the fence, today is genuinely the better bet than tomorrow, because every data point we're seeing says the floor keeps rising regardless of generation. This is not a bubble in the traditional sense. These are driver's cars with a finite supply of desirable manual configurations in a world that stopped producing them. Why do you think this keeps going up? We'd love to hear from the community on that. What makes this genuinely upsetting, not just analytically frustrating, is that the price appreciation is pricing out exactly the people who should be owning these cars. The passionate ones. The ones who would drive them, maintain them right, and actually care. Instead they end up with people for whom it's a flex or a garage sculpture. That's a gut punch for anyone who's been in this community long enough to remember when that wasn't the case. JC9 Carrera GT: A Solution Looking for a Problem The JC9 is essentially a reimagined Carrera GT body with visual cues borrowed from the 917. On paper that sounds compelling, but sitting with it longer brings up some real questions. The Carrera GT doesn't need to be fixed. It is one of the most celebrated analog driver's cars ever made. Slapping a new body on the concept and marketing it to ultra-wealthy buyers who want something exclusive feels like the automotive equivalent of a solution looking for a problem. KISS. Keep it simple. The military drilled that into some of us for good reason, and it applies here. The original formula was right. The more the car world chases bespoke reinventions of icons for nine-figure clientele, the further it drifts from what made those icons matter in the first place. Thoughts on this one? We have mixed feelings and we're not hiding it. Indecent 911 Hatchback Wagon: Cool Idea or Vaporware? The renders coming out of Indecent for a custom 911 hatchback/wagon are genuinely striking. They look cool. Full stop. But the question that always follows something like this is whether this is another "put your money where your mouth is" moment, where the concept gets traction on the internet and then quietly disappears when build deposits don't materialize. The 911 community has seen this cycle before. People love the idea of something unconventional until they have to actually commit to it. Is there a real market for a coachbuilt 911 wagon? Maybe. Is the execution going to live up to renders that were made to generate buzz? That's always the harder question. What do you think -- cool and you'd want one, or a stunt? Outro That's a wrap on this one. Catch us at pcartalk.com for upcoming events, support the show over at Patreon.com/pcartalk, and find us on social at @pcartalk. As always -- Kimchi Crew: Steve, Leslie, Chris, Ken, Aaron, Matthew, Sean, and Nik.
In this episode of ElevenAfterNine, Derek sits down with Jeff Lehman, author of "A Porsche Enthusiast's Guide to the 987.1 2.7 Boxster and Cayman" and the guy people actually trust on first-generation base Boxsters and Caymans.Jeff recently drove a 993, his own 987.1 Cayman, and a 997.1 back-to-back — and his takeaway flips conventional wisdom on its head. We get into why the base 2.7 motor is more fun than people give it credit for, why the IMS and bore scoring panic on 2007-2008 cars is overblown, and why the .1 cars might be the last honest value play left in the Porsche lineup. If you've ever talked yourself out of a Boxster or Cayman because it wasn't an S — this one's for you.

What is it really like to live with a V10-powered analog masterpiece for two decades? In this episode of 9WERKS Radio, we are joined by a man who needs little introduction to the Porsche community: Mark Sumpter, founder of Paragon Porsche and a veteran of the British GT Championship. While most Carrera GTs are treated as static financial instruments, tucked away in climate-controlled bubbles with delivery mileage, Mark's story is the antithesis of the "investment" mindset. He has owned his silver CGT for over 20 years, experiencing everything from the initial excitement of its 2004 launch to the long-term realities of maintaining a car with a Le Mans-derived heart. In this episode, we dive into:The Acquisition: How Mark secured his car and why he chose it over the 911 GT2s of the era.The Driving Experience: Mark describes the physical demands of the ceramic twin-plate clutch and why the 5.7L V10 remains the greatest engine ever put in a road car.Long-Term Maintenance: The reality of the "Major Service." We discuss the technical challenges of the carbon-fiber monocoque and what it takes to keep a Carrera GT in peak health after 20 years. The Market Evolution: Mark shares his perspective as a specialist dealer on how the CGT went from a "difficult sell" to a multi-million pound icon.Driven Not Hidden: Why Mark continues to take his car on European road trips and why he believes these cars "die" if they aren't driven.Technical Deep Dive: The CGT ComponentsOwning a Carrera GT is a commitment to precision engineering. During the interview, Mark touches on the specific components that define the ownership experience:The PCCC (Porsche Ceramic Composite Clutch): Why its reputation for being "difficult" is misunderstood, and how to drive it properly to ensure longevity. The Pushrod Suspension: How the racing-derived setup handles real-world B-roads.Service Requirements: From engine-out valve clearances to the specialized magnesium wheels.Find your dream Porsche on the 9WERKS Marketplace: 9werks.co.uk/marketplace Thanks to our friends heritagepartscentre.com for sponsoring this podcast, get up to 10% off your basket by entering the code ‘9WERKS10' at the checkout on heritagepartscentre.com‘9WERKS Radio' @9werks.radio is your dedicated Porsche and car podcast, taking you closer than ever to the world's finest sports cars and the culture and history behind them. The show is brought to you by 9werks.co.uk, the innovative online platform for Porsche enthusiasts. Take the survey now: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1iHRZvOly_Q7aprlQBF7n38y0EjgvnHw2OdYII8yQElc/edit?ts=670d0111 Rob is joined by Tom Hartley Jr., one of the world's premier luxury car dealers. From selling his first Porsche at age 12 to now managing a billion pound inventory of luxury cars, Tom shares his knowledge on the exclusive world of rare Ferraris, McLaren F1s, and Formula One classics. Tom reveals which supercars are overhyped, which are under appreciated gems and shares insider investment tips. REVEALS: The greatest supercar of all time The holy grail of classic Ferraris Why Formula One cars are significantly undervalued investments Why not all classics are worth the hype That he strongly dislikes electric vehicles, believing they'll only last about 10 years before needing expensive battery replacements, unlike classics that can last centuries. How Ferrari has evolved beyond being just a car company to become a true luxury brand What cars he recommends for investors BEST MOMENTS "I'm not really one who has many regrets because I've always been fortunate enough in life”. "Carrera GT is the best sounding car of all time. You talked about a V10 Formula, Formula 1 derived engine, and it sounds phenomenal when you start it up, but it sounds way better when you drive it." "I think Ferrari are so on a different level that they are a luxury brand. They should be more associated with something that's within LVMH. Their rival is more Hermes than maybe Lamborghini." "If somebody gave me a trillion... I would [wake up] tomorrow morning and do exactly the same as what I'm doing today because I'm buying and selling the world's greatest cars. My business is my hobby and my hobby is my business." Today I'm sitting down with entrepreneur and influencer, Tom Exton, otherwise known online as TGE. Tom first made waves when he and his twin brother launched a pioneering digital fitness company and while that endeavor introduced him to a massive audience, it was his content on watches & cars that struck a nerve with his following. Over time he's built a loyal following of hundreds of thousands following his every move in the collector space, and an even more impressive collection.A true collector at heart, Tom began his journey with watches, starting with brands that resonate with most of the world. But these days, he's a devoted fan of independent watchmakers, watchmakers who truly push the boundaries of design and craftsmanship. And yes, there's even a story about acquiring an FP Journe Élégante at a petrol station—a story that sums up his two passions. When it comes to cars, Tom's stable is just as impressive. From Porsches, Ferraris, and even a Carrera GT, he's chased the thrill of the drive and the artistry of design. His latest acquisition though? A jaw-dropping Ferrari 250 Pininfarina—a grail for vintage car enthusiasts everywhere.Beyond collecting, Tom has turned his passions into business ventures, including a luxury watch giveaway platform and a company producing protective stickers for watches. At the end of the day, Tom brings a unique perspective to the idea of doing what you love. Rob is joined again by supercar dealer Carl Hartley. Carl reveals the luxury car industry's biggest scams, manufacturer manipulation, and insider secrets. From exposing dealership malpractices to sharing his controversial views on electric cars and the Jaguar rebrand disaster, Carl holds nothing back. He also talks about how he sold 14 cars in one day, shares the story behind his viral police meme, and explains why he'll never sell a Lotus! Carl Hartley REVEALS: Why the electric car revolution is "the biggest scam in the car industry," with Carl explaining why the 2030 target is unrealistic and why infrastructure will never support it. Why manufacturers are increasingly trying to cut out grey market dealers by pricing cars higher initially, changing the industry dynamics. How some dealerships abuse sale-or-return arrangements, secretly using client cars and covering up accidents. That car insurance is essentially a cartel, forcing owners into unfair arrangements and penalising them for others' mistakes. How prestigious brands like Ferrari maintain their exclusivity through deliberate customer selection and strict control measures. Why limited editions aren't always what they seem, manufacturers often create artificial scarcity through marketing rather than genuine rarity. BEST MOMENTS "I had three of the most deadly cars in the world - the Carrera GT, the F40, and the P1. This car drives like you've smacked its kids and shagged its wife." "When you look pro rata, cars have gone up a disgusting amount in what, one new model. Range Rover is the best example in the world. They've literally gone up 70 percent from one model to another." "Look at all the racing drivers that have had motorsport success in Jaguars and the great cars. Steve McQueen used to own Jaguars. The coolest person to ever walk the earth. This Week's Topics The Ever-Changing "Poor Man's Porsche" The debate about which Porsche model is the "poor man's Porsche" continues to evolve. Historically, this title has shifted from the 912 decades ago to the 944s and 914s. Currently, early Boxster models hold this distinction according to market data. What are your thoughts on this trend? Will we see Taycan Turbos claiming this title in a decade? Sinking Porsche Design Tower The Porsche Design Tower in Florida has sunk by 3 inches between 2016 and 2023. While this may seem minor, it's part of a larger issue affecting coastal areas. With sea levels rising, what are your thoughts on the future of coastal real estate? We'll discuss the implications and potential solutions for sinking buildings. Macan EV Recall: Too Bright to Handle In an ironic twist, Porsche is recalling Macan EVs due to excessively bright headlights. Could this be an unintended consequence of endurance racing technology? Let's speculate on other potential recalls and discuss the balance between safety features and EV range. DRT: Time for a Miami Trip? With Das Renn Treffen (DRT) dates soon to be announced, we're considering a quick trip to Miami. We'll reminisce about our best DRT memories and discuss plans for attending this year's event. Gunther Buerman and his Maggie Buerman opened the Newport Car Museum in 2017 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. They've constantly updated the combined automobile and history museum including its latest presentation — an homage to Porsche. Gunther Buerman, whose interest in automobiles began as a young boy when practiced wax paper transfer etchings of car advertisements from National Geographic Magazine, is our guest on this week's episode of The Weekly Driver Podcast. A repeat guest who was willed a 1966 Ford Mustang nearly 40 years ago, Buerman owns dozens of vehicles, none any more important than his collection of the German sports cars of his early youth. The Newport Car Museum has a new permanent display of Porsches. He moved to New York as a young boy with his family where Buerman eventually became an attorney. He's the former chairman of Harris Beach, LLC, a major New York law firm. From his early life fondness for cars, Buerman and his wife, who live in Highland Beach, Florida and Newport, R.I., have established the largest auto museum on the East Coast. Co-host Bruce Aldrich and I interview the car collector and avid sailor about his nearly lifelong interest in cars, notably the expansive collection of prized Porsches at the Newport Car Museum Starting with a 1956 Porsche 356a Speedster, the Museum's collection includes every Speedster developed to date. The Speedster was redesigned in 1989, '94, 2011 and for a final time in 2019. After the 356 came a legend among modern automobiles, the Porsche 911. Ahead of its time when introduced in 1964, the rear-engine 911 evolved over three decades when Porsche introduced a new 911 Carrera in 1999. Among the Museum's 911s are a 1979 930 Turbo, a 2016 Targa 4S and three GTs – the 2011 GT3 RS 4.0, 2016 GT3 RS, and 2018 GT2 RS Weissach – the latter representing the highest-powered (700 hp), dual-track-and-road cars of their vintage. The museum's 2005 Carrera GT is one of the last real supercars with manual transmission: a naturally aspirated 10-cylinder "monster." Finally, the 2015 918 in the collection is forever relevant as one in the trifecta of current hypercars. The McLaren P1 and Ferrari La Ferrari are the also in the prized threesome. The vehicles in the Newport Auto Museum are complemented by mid-20th Center Modern furnishings of renowned international designers and automotive artworks by Los Angeles-based artist David Lloyd Glover. Please join Bruce Aldrich and me as we spend 30 minutes with a passionate automotive expert.
*** https://www.alteschule.tv/

He was an integral part of the Brumos Racing family, driving a Brumos Racing Daytona Prototype in every Rolex Sports Car series race from 2003 through 2010. In 2009 he co-drove to victory in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. David and co-driver Darren Law joined Action Express Racing in 2011, sharing three podium finishes and 3rd place finish in DP driver points. David returned to Action Express Racing in 2012 with an all-new Corvette Daytona Prototype finishing 4th in points. David was the 2013 Rolex-24 hour GX class winner in Napleton Racing's Porsche Cayman. Donohue began racing in selected races in 1992, with his first full season being 1994 when he won the Bridgestone Supercar Championship in a BMW M5. Donohue continued his association with BMW in 1995 and 1996 and is credited with the first-ever podium finish for BMW of North America's M3 GT racing effort. In 1996 Donohue joined Chrysler's fledgling Super-Touring program where he won the first ever Super Touring car race in North America in a Dodge Stratus and went on to capture the CART Super Touring Driver's Championship in 1997. Joining Daimler Chrysler's Dodge Viper program for the next three years, Donohue co-drove a Dodge Viper GTS-R to a 1998 GT-2 class victory in his very first drive at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and took six GTS class victories in the American Le Mans Series in 1999 and 2000. 2001 saw Donohue on ovals as he drove three races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and twelve Busch Grand National Series before returning to road racing in 2002 as a long-distance specialist for Panoz Motorsports in the ALMS's LMP 900 class. In 2003 Donohue joined Brumos Racing in their Porsche-powered, Daytona Prototype in the Grand Am's new top class. In 2005 Porsche enlisted Donohue to drive their Carrera GT road car to a closed course lap record speed of over 196 mph and a closed course flying mile record speed of over 198 mph. In addition to his racing duties in 2006, Donohue was also an IROC test driver for the season.

When you break with tradition, there will always be detractors. People will inevitably yearn for the past and pine for a simpler time. Porsche has done it in many instances, and it is what keeps them innovating. Looking toward the future without forgetting the past is a hallmark of what Porsche is about. When the 924 was introduced, there were cries of "not a pure Porsche" and "you put the engine where?" And don't even talk about the liquid-cooled motor. But through the noise and the doubters emerged a car that has become an important part of the family and according to an unknown author, "Families are like branches on a tree. We grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one." From the 356 to the 911 to the 924 and the Carrera GT, the root is all Porsche. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/neversubstituted/support
