To stay in the paddock for more than half a century, you simply must adore Formula 1. The sport might have changed a lot in that time, but what has always stayed the same is Herbie Blash's enthusiasm for F1. Now the FIA's permanent senior advisor to the Race Director, Blash's career began as a race mechanic at Rob Walker Racing and Lotus in the 1960's. 30 years later, having won two World Championships as team manager of Brabham Racing in the 1980's, Herbie switched the pit wall for Race Control – where he spent more than two decades as deputy to the late, legendary F1 Race Director Charlie Whiting. Speaking to Tom Clarkson, Herbie relives some of the most intriguing tales of his long career; from pushing the regulations to the absolute limit with Brabham, working with World Champions like Niki Lauda, dealing with driver fatalities, becoming best mates with Charlie, his passion for motorbikes, and much more. This week's podcast episode is a special one, and not just because we recorded it at Road America. Carruthers and Bice had the distinct pleasure of talking to motorcycle road racing legend Freddie Spencer, who is currently in charge of Royal Enfield's Build. Train. Race. program, which has its first round this weekend at Road America. Spencer is also Chairman of the Track Stewards in MotoGP, so we also discussed that important role. And, we couldn't let Spencer go without discussing his incredible racing career, highlighted by his double GP Championship in 1985 in both 250cc and 500cc. Why, Max Verstappen, why? The two-time World Champion let go of the 'cheapest' way to secure Sergio Perez's loyalty at the 2022 Sao Paulo GP or the 2022 Brazilian GP (whatever you want to call it!). And then of course, we had a Verstappen vs. Lewis Hamilton on-track, that cost both teams a bit of body work. Fernando Alonso's fightback, Ferrari's inters for Charles Leclerc and refusal to swap places with Carlos Sainz, the team-mate battles, Yuki Tsunoda being 'forgotten' by Race Control, Lando Norris' illness, Mclaren's double DNF, Kevin Magnussen's pole and more. To any other country looking to host their first Formula 1 Grand Prix, look to Saudi Arabia, where the incredibly fast, insanely unpredictable, and barely complete Jeddah Corniche circuit set the scene for an absolute clusterf*ck of a race that saw Race Control absolutely bottle job their roles. With only one race to go, and Max and Lewis even on points, it's all or nothing going into Abu Dhabi. P Money and F the FIA Knowles debate it all in this episode of The Grandstand.

Greg Edwards has been running late model stock cars at Langley Speedway since 1991. Over that time, Greg (14:54) has amassed six track championships, tying his brother Danny for second on the track's all-time list for late models. That friendly sibling rivalry has fueled some of the best battles that have even bubbled over to days at the shop. But let Greg tell you about all that. Meet the legendary driver out of Poquoson and hear how he got his start, what keeps him coming to the track and how he plans on grabbing his very first Hampton Heat checkered flag on Saturday. In our “Commonwealth Closer,” hosts Dave Seay and Brandon Brown discuss the towering topic of Race Control: how difficult the job of a race director is, and if the current criticism of the NASCAR tower is justified after the errors at New Hampshire.
