“Be Amazed by God – Lessons from Habakkuk”In this powerful and heartfelt episode, we explore the timeless message of the Book of Habakkuk, centered around the theme: Be Amazed by God. Through scripture, honest reflection, and personal stories, Pastor Okien Peters unpacks how God amazes us both through His severity and goodness — His justice and His mercy.Using Habakkuk 1 and Romans 11 as anchors, we journey through the prophet's raw, emotional dialogue with God. Why does God sometimes seem silent? Why does He allow injustice? These are honest questions that reflect a real relationship — not a religious performance. We're reminded that God welcomes our transparency and desires intimacy with us, even in seasons of waiting and confusion. Key themes include: • God's dual nature: kindness and sternness.• Learning to ask God honest, faith-filled questions.• The danger of going through spiritual motions without heart.• Expecting God to speak — and being ready to listen.• How God amazes us — sometimes with judgment, but more beautifully with His undeniable, transformative goodness.• Understanding that God's ways may seem contradictory but are always purposeful. You'll hear stories of real-life miracles, warnings about spiritual complacency, and an urgent call to authenticity in our walk with God. Whether you're in a season of questioning or joy, this episode will stir your faith and challenge you to grow deeper in your relationship with God.Listen now and be inspired to seek God afresh — not out of habit, but from the heart.

"What's It Going to Take for You to Fully Follow Jesus?" In a world where "following" often means nothing more than clicking a button, this message challenges us to understand what true Biblical following means. Through powerful Scripture passages and practical application, we explore three major barriers that keep us from fully following Jesus: • The pursuit of personal gain over divine purpose • Expecting God to serve our plans rather than serving His • Letting feelings dictate our faith journey Key Scripture References: Matthew 9:37-38 Romans 12:2 Psalm 100:2 Deuteronomy 10:12 Joshua 24:15 Hebrews 11:6 Matthew 14:25-32 Discover how to move beyond surface-level Christianity into a transformative relationship with Jesus. Learn why consistency beats intensity and how to cultivate authentic faith in an age of casual Christianity.
Podcast Summary In this episode of the Stoke It Up podcast, Alan Stoddard and Kenneth Priest discuss the challenges and opportunities that come with the new year, particularly focusing on themes of grief, ministry transitions, and the importance of preparation. They reflect on personal experiences of loss and the in-between seasons of life and ministry, emphasizing the need for spiritual readiness and the dangers of becoming too attached to ministry roles. The conversation encourages listeners to embrace the in-between moments, seek God's guidance, and prepare for what lies ahead in 2025. Takeaways Grief is a natural part of life that we must face. In-between seasons can be challenging but also transformative. Preparation is key during times of waiting. Expecting God to act is crucial in our spiritual journey. Addiction to ministry can hinder our relationship with God. Letting go of what we think we need can lead to growth. Our identity should not be tied solely to our ministry roles. It's important to find purpose even in the in-between. We should be open to God's timing and direction. Engaging in smaller, seemingly insignificant tasks can be fulfilling.

I saw one of those bumper frames for your license plate. It said, "Happiness is being a grandparent." Oh, that's the truth! I mean, I remember when I was a little kid. Happiness was having a grandparent with you, especially my grandmother. Because it always meant surprises; it meant going out to eat, and it almost always meant money! That's what grandparents are for, of course, to spoil kids. Any time I knew that I would be seeing Grandma I was excited to see what surprises she would bring. If we're that way about grandma, we should really be looking forward to what Father has for us today; that's Father with a capital F. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Praying, Then Expecting." As you know, life is divided into 24-hour chunks. We have this sort of death and resurrection thing that takes place every day. You know, we sort of die about 10:00, 11:00, or 12:00 o'clock at night, and sort of start all over again the next morning. It's like beginning again the next day. So, life isn't this big old blob - life. It just really comes down to these 24-hour things doesn't it: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, etc.? There's a very interesting look in the Bible at a day in the life of a child of God, because that's really what it amounts to...have a good day. That's how you live the life of a Christian, you have a good day. Go back to the book of Psalms, and here's what a day in the life looks like at beginning and end; sunrise and sunset in the life of a child of God. Our word for today from the Word of God, Psalm 5:3 - "In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation." Okay, that's one end of the day. Let's go to the other end of the day. The sun has gone down now. Psalm 4:8, same page in my Bible, says this; "I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Now, it's interesting as you read this morning beginning with the Lord, beginning this 24-hour period of time. It talks about the many moods of praying. There's not just one mood of praying; it's sort of like Baskin Robbins. There are a lot of flavors you can pray in. It says, "Give ear to my words, O Lord." Okay, that's just kind of making a statement. Then it says, "Consider my sighing." This is the kind of praying when you're totally depleted; you don't even know what to say. "O Lord, I can hardly get this out." And then it says, "Listen to my cry..." my cry for help. This is desperation. And then he says, "I lay my requests before the Lord" every morning laying out the concerns of my heart. By the way, did you do that this morning? Do you do that every morning? Talk to Him and say, "Lord, here's what I'm afraid of today; here's what I'm hoping for today; here's what I'm dreaming about; here's what I'm crying about; here are the people I love; here are the needs I'm anticipating." You empty your hands. Now, how can you tell if you've really prayed or if you just went through the motions? Notice that it says, "I lay my request before the Lord and wait in expectation." Hey, that's like Grandma's visit; waiting in expectation for her surprises. You know you've really prayed when you get off your knees expectantly and you go through your day looking for the fingerprints of God on that day. It may not be like I thought it would be, but there will be His surprises. Expectation is the byproduct of faith. So, are you uh... expecting? You say, "No, I'm a man. How could I be expecting?" No, I mean expecting good things from God. Expecting God's touch on what you've turned over to Him. No wonder at night we can lie down and sleep in peace. You allow time each morning to turn over the specifics of that day to Jesus, and then you live in an air of expectancy. My grandmother seldom disappointed me, and your Heavenly Father never will.
Expecting God's presence in our daily lives transforms our approach to challenges, enabling us to face them with confidence and peace. God's presence is our source of strength, and His promise to be with us is our anchor in times of trouble. As we navigate life's valleys and peaks, we must remember that God's hand is always extended, ready to guide us home.
What should we expect when we pray to God for help? How does God tend to work in the lives of his people? John 11 tells the story of Lazarus, but it reveals to us the heart of God, showing us what to expect when expecting God.

Favor is released because God has a passion for us that is designed to provoke astonishment. It's a new creation reality that upgrades our expectation to the same level that Jesus enjoyed. Regardless of life events or any form of hardship, favor can elevate us to a place and position that empowers us to receive under pressure. Key Scriptures: + John 17:23. I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. + 2 Peter 1:3-4. By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. As we've looked at our stories over the last few weeks, it'd be easy to see our stories as purely individual affairs connected to the person of God. After all, it's my story! Right? Well, there is a power in stories not being only our own. Our stories are impacted and influenced by others. Our stories flourish in community. Many of our best stories include invitations from others, interruptions by others, and real risks and vulnerability to connect with one another —even folks less familiar to us. This helps us do something together that we cannot do on our own. Life changes when we expect God not only to work in us but through others in a way that blesses a whole community. There's trust in our story, calling in our story, suffering in our story, and those things are connected to other people. These are people outside of us, but these are also people God can use to change us to be more like Jesus. Come and learn more this Sunday.- Series Description - Revelation 12:11 says that we have overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Our stories are powerful tools that reveal how God has been and continues to be at work in our lives and are meant to be weapons against the enemy. Come and hear about the power of our stories.
