Lisa is an expert in animation and its relationship to music, publishing widely on everything from United Productions of America (UPA) to Cartoon Saloon, and with expertise that covers film and television music, ludomusicology, and twentieth-century American and British art music. Topics include where Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio fits within Hollywood's growing stop-motion renaissance; puppetry, agency, monstrosity, and the “terrible joy” of Pinocchio's creation; the film's wartime context and contribution of its Fascist imagery to images of collective national trauma; Geppetto's narration and twice-told tales foregrounded as memory; the ‘lyrical' role of lullabies and folk songs in depicting Pinocchio's self-growth; and what del Toro's film tells us about how things that take time to build can be destroyed in an instant. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo** **As featured on Feedspot's 25 Best London Education Podcasts**

Great Hearts America is a thriving network of publicly-funded charter schools, encompassing tens-of-thousands of students in Arizona, Texas, and Louisiana. They are rooted in what is popularly termed "Classical" education and their approach to learning and formation are very traditional. By all accounts, they have been very successful. But, now the game has changed. Nationally, as the wheels (sadly and unnecessarily) come off public schools, school choice initiatives are blossoming. Nowhere is there more true than in Arizona where families can utilize state tuition tax credit scholarships and state-funded empowerment scholarship accounts. The net effect of this has been that the demand for Christian education has gone through the roof and it's never been more affordable. In response, Great Hearts' founder, Dr. Dan Scoggins, has launched Great Hearts Christos, a new network of Great Hearts Christian schools.Today, we have the opportunity to hear directly from Dan in terms of his vision for the Christos initiative. As well, we'll talk with Dr. Toyin Atolagbe, the head of school for the first two Great Hearts Christos locations and discover the Great Hearts approach to student spiritual formation.Fore more information on Great Hearts America, please follow this link.To learn about Great Hearts Christos, please click here."Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School. For more information on Frameworks, please visit: https://frameworks.ncsaz.org/For more information on Northwest Christian School, visit: https://www.ncsaz.org/To reach out to Geoff Brown, please email gbrown@ncsaz.org or you can reach him by cell phone: (623)225-5573.

Brad Scoggin is the co-founder and CEO of ArborXR, an XR device management solution for enterprises that is currently being used by more than 400 companies and educational institutions around the world. Brad and his team found companies are using consumer hardware, such as the Oculus Quest, but don't have the right enterprise software to help them scale as they go from pilot projects to larger deployments. The problems addressed by ArborXR are an extension of the problems Brad saw as the co-founder and CEO of Springboard VR. Springboard was a venue management solution for VR arcades, which Brad successfully sold during the height of the pandemic. In this conversation, we discuss Brad's insights on how to thrive as a non-tech founder pushing the boundaries of VR and AR, and his perspective on utilizing these devices as tools to enhance our experience with the real world, and not exclusively a means of escape.Brad goes on to share some excellent insights into scaling up (and down) a startup in VR/AR as well as the importance of managing pace, creating transparency, riding the creative tension between focus and experimentation, and successfully building out a remote team. And of course we get into the details of ArborXR, where Brad shares that they have multiple deployments of over 10,000 headsets! You can find all of the show notes at thearshow.com.
