If you dig that opening hook, that is Marcus Rogers, "Best Life", please buy his music.  Yes!  You are in!  We are getting Real and Pursuing Truth.  Going through some tough times?  Welcome to the club.  An agnostic makes the play of the day, yeah you heard that right, atheists and agnostics have made the plays of the days.  Personally, I love it when secular points to Truth and the bigger picture.  Here you go...Right on!  As much as we may not like resistance, it can serve a purpose.  That Play of the Day came from the Adam Carolla podcast.  Not his first play on this platform.  Like I said, I have no problem using secular when it points to Truth and the bigger picture.  The guest is Joel Lambert, former Navy Seal.  Oh side note, this an independent podcast.  When it comes to politics and the bigger picture, one of the best pieces of advice came from one pastor Named Kenton Beshore of Mariners Church in Orange County, CA.  He said if a church chooses a side (in this case Democrats and Republicans) you put a wall to the other side.  John 16:33New International Version33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”Avid listener, you know I've brought this up many times.  The Greatest in the Bible went through the hardest times.  Do you want to be the greatest?  Maybe not.  If you want to be part of the greatest, you are going to understand this.  Let's go to science for a bit.  How do you get stronger?  Physically?  Mentally?  How do you run a marathon or get a PHD?  A lot of resistance.  I am convinced the anxiety and depression that plagues this nation has a lot to do with avoiding resistance.  Wanting or getting things handed to us.  Ferverent prayers, you know that you don't get everything you pray/ask.  Well, you do, just not the way you expect.  Yes, I know the verse of what you ask you get.  I believe God is much more concerned about your and my character than comfort.Side note, I'm still being refined, especially economically.  Hasn't come easy.  I'm not a super wealthy man, monetarily.  Maybe that's to keep me humble.  So I owe and off to work I go.How about you?  Are you striving for more comfort or strength?  Hey, I don't blame you for going for comfort.  I've done the same.  Yet the wise want stronger.  Stronger in the Word.  Stronger in the Lord.  Stronger in the mind and heart.  So be reaffirmed your suffering/resistance has purpose.  Jesus was whipped, tortured and nailed to a cross...and it wasn't for nothing...and you benefit from it...if you choose.  Romans 8:28New International Version28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.  John 3:16 NIV:  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.Side note, some of you are enduring or have endured some really hard things.  To be clear, I'm not trying to minimize them.  I'm not excusing that person or people that hurt you.  I am going to encourage you to handle it like Jesus Christ.  Hint: what did he say to those people in the peak of his pain on the cross?  Victim or Victor.  Your choice.  Lastly, put your hurts to use and help others.  Who better to help someone with cancer than one that knows that battle?  Where have you suffered the most?  There you go.  That is the key to have your heart overflow.  Now, go Love

On September 30th, Patrick Lechleitner, the Director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sent a letter to Congressman Tony Gonzales revealing that over 13,000 convicted murderers and over 15,000 convicted rapists who have been caught by ICE were released into America because of the Biden/Harris catch and release policy, which defies current immigration law. Finding Joy in the Nativity: 1. You should find joy in pursuing truth.

When Tamara and I first connected and I heard about her podcast "The Recovering Liberal", I thought this should make for a juicy conversation. There is a part of me that loves talking to people with really strong views, to see if we can find some common ground even though we see the world so differently. I also enjoy the "intellectual sparring" part of it, that usually comes with those types of emotionally charged conversations. What I got in this discussion with Tamara was so much better than that though. Rather than an irrational, extremist who thought their view of the world was exactly right, I found myself talking to one of the more rational, humble, and open minded people I've had the pleasure of speaking with on this journey. I know that doesn't always make for all the exciting sound bites and social media buzz, but it does make for a much deeper, more insightful, learning experience. Even more so because Tamara has such a self awareness about her own personal journey, which included struggles with addiction, shifting away from an extreme liberal view point, and ultimately identifying the pursuit of truth as her most important value. The words she uses are " the perspective I bring is quite simply how an ordinary person begins to explore beyond headlines and really understand the heart of these issues, so that they can make more informed decisions for their own lives and choices." I would argue there is actually something quite extraordinary about that approach to life. We covered a lot of ground in this discussion and explored what pursuing the truth looks like for Tamara. We talked about the subjective nature of truth, how having a moral high ground can be dangerous, the difference between liberals and conservatives, and explored some recent political stories (e.g., attack of Nancy Pelosi's husband, January 6th, Tulsi Gabbard etc.). The thing that was consistent throughout the discussion (despite my probing and pressing) was Tamara's consistent approach to be as objective and humble as she could be. Although it wasn't the conversation I expected, I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot.

Pursuing Truth in a Culture of Personal Freedom Jesus could have come as many different things; a priest, a revolutionary, maybe a general or emperor but He came as a rabbi, a teacher…a truth teller. Why? He knew that the war He was fighting was not in the world, but rather in our minds. A war on truth. John 8:31-32 records that, “Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” As He is teaching about truth, He is simultaneously saying that we are enslaved to false ideas of freedom by looking for truth in the wrong places. We are in bondage to the tyranny of lies that hold our soul's captive to suffering and pain. Jesus has come to set us free with the weapon of truth. And God's concept of freedom always occurs within obedience to God's ways “Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. About our Guest: Steve Mittwede, PhD, EdSDr. Mittwede is privileged to be a teacher of Earth Science at Randolph School in Huntsville (Rocket City!), Alabama, after having taught at two great classical schools in Texas for the past seven years. Heartily committed to lifelong learning, his most recent degree was an EdS in Educational Leadership from Columbia International University (CIU), following degrees in geology from The College of William and Mary (BS) and the University of South Carolina (MS and PhD), the last two while concurrently working as a full-time mineral resources geologist for the South Carolina Geological Survey.  During that time in South Carolina, he married Dana, and they were blessed with four sons in close succession – all now grown, married, and raising their own broods (13 grandchildren and counting!). Steve also has an MA in intercultural studies from CIU and an MTh in theology from Union School of Theology/University of South Wales (UK). With his family, Steve lived for 23 years in Ankara, Turkey where he worked as an educator, academic researcher, consulting geologist, and scientific/technical editor.
