Kavithā's story is a testament to the integration of spiritual practice with the rhythms of daily life, reflecting on the roles of mantra, ritual, and The Direct Path in the journey for self-realization. Pitṛpakṣa is a 16–lunar day period in the fall when we pay homage to our ancestors. The purpose of this tradition is to not just appease generations of our ancestors in another realm, but also to free ourselves of kārmic bonds. Ordinarily, even when we are aware of this tradition, our focus isn't on the internal freedom from ancestral patterns that keep us bound. In this workshop, we will explore the role of this tradition and how it can be used to turn inward and to learn to discard deeply held beliefs and patterns that keep us from experiencing joy, freedom, and lightness. Continuing our monthlong coverage on Climate anxiety, Shannon Thompson, the founder of Shakti Rising, shares insights with Rose from her 22 year history leading a trauma informed women's change organization.
Ep. 66 This episode begins with a fantastic discussion about the process of social change movements with my extraordinary guest, Shannon Thompson. Bonus: Check out the quick 3 minute TED Talk describing what Shannon calls the power of the first follower “How to Start A Movement - Derek Sivers” https://www.ted.com/talks/derek_sivers_how_to_start_a_movement Shannon and I dive deep into the world of independence versus interdependence. A world where women are told to walk on their own and be strong and to work hard to be their own person, Shannon sheds light on what that looks like from her vantage point as a recovering addict and global movement leader. Being a strong independent woman can be lonely and what we need most is interdependence. Shannon is the visionary of Shakti Rising, which I asked her to define for us. Her response: "Shakti is a grassroots social change organization transforming the lives of women and children and the larger community by cultivating leadership skills, financial, economical and ecological resilience and family wellness through a holistic feminine model”. That definition speaks volumes and she goes on to explain why we need to lean in and learn more. In this episode, Shannon walks us through a powerful personal story from her past, that she rarely shares, and highlights the true essence of what it means to go from Hot Mess to Awesomeness. You will be enthralled and uplifted, inspired, and amazed with what she shares with us. Get ready to be interdependently bold! In her words, “You do not need to try to be special, because you already are”. In this special release episode, MYA Host, Megan Morgan, shares an audio workshop for listeners which can be completed alone, or in group settings. Following closely on last week's episode with guest Shannon Thompson, the content of this one formed the framework for a professional development webinar for rising leaders in the non-profit organization, Shakti Rising, called: Tending the Wings of Your Temple: Nurturing Your Soulful Self. The professional development series that Shakti Rising works on seeks to encourage us to fill our wells, feed culture, root into in resilience, skill building and foster knowledge sharing. Feedback from the webinar was positive, and several participants asked if there was a recorded version that they could return to at another time. My Yoga Audio seemed like the perfect opportunity to make that happen, and also allow others to tap in to something that could be beneficial. In the webinar, you will be guided through a series of prompts and exercises based primarily on bird wisdom. Yes, bird wisdom! Come, take flight and meet your curiosity on your very own personal journey in this special episode. *Bonus* a new musical release from musician Giovanni Morant is played in this episode as well as additional new sounds from Music of Wisdom. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/megan-morgan1/support

Remy (also Remedios or Ding!) Meraz is a fighter! She's a searcher, a student, a hero, a mom, an entrepeneur, and a woman who cannot be stopped. This episode could also be called Manifest Destiny. If you don't typically listen to the end...please do on this one. Special Thanksgiving ending! She has done the work on herself and come out the other side to make the world a better place. Come alone with us and hear how she's connected the dots in her life which might help you connect yours. She's my Taurus sistah and sometimes it feels like we are almost the same person. Our paths have crossed and crossed over each other and back and forth and zig zagged. Remy is a powerhouse but in a way she embodies Mr. Rogers motto of "find the helpers". There is always someone there to help. Sometimes they actually say "I'm here to help you." There is always someone in your life or who wants to be in your life to help you. Remy is the second person to mention being part of the Latina Business Women's Association. Remy Meraz an alchemist and change agent living a life on purpose is the founder and CEO of Me Tyme. http://metyme.io a wellness platform to help you think, feel, and work better. The concept for Me Tyme was born from life-altering incidents she encountered while growing up and throughout her career where she witnessed challenges plaguing companies and communities of color surrounding mental health. She credits a mental health disorder diagnosis, Oprah, and her daughter as the driving forces behind her life work to remove cost and stigma as primary roadblocks for those seeking professional help and access to personal development training. In her spare time, you can find her eating her way through the city one restaurant at a time or running the streets, beaches, and trails of Southern California. Get on board MeTyme! Michaela and I met in Shinpiden training, facilitated by Frans Stiene. On this episode we discuss how healing her relationship with feminine consciousness changed her life, her focus on supporting families with Reiki throughout the processes of pregnancy and how she uses art to help people awaken and trust their own intuitive nature. In her 13-year journey through the lands of higher education, social justice leadership, arts therapy, energy work, and the liminal spaces of the Fairy realm, Michaela has spun a fertile web of possibility, intersection, and purpose. The Japanese energy art of Reiki, the revolutionary education model of Shakti Rising, and the intuitive arts practice of SoulCollage® form critical threads in this web. It is with heartful joy that Michaela practices and teaches Reiki and SoulCollage® as pathways to uncover our True Self through her business HeartScapes, and that she serves Shakti Rising’s community education program Shakti Feminine University as Weaver of Magical Education. Michaela is inspired by the myriad ways in which feminine consciousness is transforming toxicity into flourishing life, in the world and within her own heart. Drawn to methods that uncover our innate wisdom and creative nature, she designs experiences that help individuals and groups connect more deeply with aspects of their identity and purpose, and that transform the barriers to living into that purpose. She has particular interest in supporting those who are most directly impacted by the racism, patriarchy, heteronormativity and other forms of oppression at play in our lives. In this episode Amelía and Satya discuss the Shakti energy and the devine feminine and how the energy rises. They also discuss how shame keeps us from living up to our full energetic potentials.
I was really excited when today's guest, Kavitha Chinnaiyan reached out about sharing her new book with me, Shakti Rising. As many of you know I love studying archetypes and have a deep appreciation for stories and mythology about goddesses. As well, her big truth kicked off our chat with a bit of mystery, which I also always love. Her truth was: There is much more to life than what we see. From there we explored: -How we're all far more than our limited identities. -How yoga and spirituality stemmed from being men's practices and few spiritual paths are tailored for women, with those that are traditionally, being quite hidden. -We talked about her intentions for writing the book - to clarify conversations around the "Divine Feminine" and what The Goddess is. I loved this line she said, "There is nothing in existence that isn't her..." -We got into making your life your practice and navigating spiritual materialism and elitism along the way. -And she also shared some of the differences between her spiritual beliefs and her husbands and how they instill beliefs, practices and rituals with their kids despite any differences. I loved this chat and hope you do too! About Kavitha Chinnaiyan: Kavitha Chinnaiyan, MD, is an integrative cardiologist, meditation teacher and tantrika. Kavitha M. Chinnaiyan, MD, reveals how we can transform a path of suffering to one of sweetness, joy and beauty, based on her new book Shakti Rising: Embracing Shadow and Light on the Goddess Path to Wholeness. The pursuit of contentment is an innate part of the human experience, arising from a fundamental sense of lack or inadequacy - all the things we believe to be wrong with us when we compare or judge ourselves. In our search for peace and happiness, we may find ourselves fighting the shadows within us, trying to repress or disown certain qualities, especially our anger, violence, discomfort, craving, and disappointment. But in order to stop this fight, we must expand our understanding beyond the dualities of good versus bad, right versus wrong, and beautiful versus ugly, and accept the parts of ourselves we've tried to deny. Kavitha shows us how the wisdom of the Mahavidyas, the ten wisdom goddesses who represent the interconnected darkness and light within all of us, can assist us on this transformational journey, in a highly relevant way today. Kavitha M. Chinnaiyan, MD, is a cardiologist who blends her medical expertise with her knowledge of yoga, tantra, and the Direct Path to help patients discover the end of suffering.
