Social media listening is an area with great untapped potential in the pharmaceutical industry. In this episode, Peg Crowley-Nowick, PhD, MBA, President of Medical Affairs Consulting at Lumanity, and Damian Eade, Managing Director, Social Analytics, Insight at Lumanity, discuss how a Medical Affairs team approaches social media listening differently than a commercial team. They review the differences between traditional key opinion leaders and digital thought leaders as well as discuss the impact these “digital influencers” have in the social media landscape. They talk through insight collection and learning about the patient experience through social media and how these insights can be leveraged for patient-focused drug development. Finally, Damian and Peg explore sentiment analysis and how it can be measured and used in social media. With all of the advancements being made in the digital landscape, staying at the forefront of social media listening can be a powerful tool for Medical Affairs teams.

"The Professor" Pritch Pritchard, APR and Fellow PRSA, has some advice for CEOs, Vice Presidents, Directors and Managers who might not consider social media metrics and analytics to be a critical need. You don't need to be an expert yourself, but you do need to keep your marketing and PR team in control of social media. Not just outward messaging but also social listening, brand relations and in worse-case scenarios: crisis communication. Pritch discusses various potential crisis communication issues and the tools you might suggest your in-house or 3rd party communications team utilizes for keeping aware of your online reputation and possible brand-damaging social posts. Lakshmanan (Lux) Narayan is an Author, TED speaker, marketer and a SaaS entrepreneur. After his stint in advertising, Lux joined Sekhar Vembu as a co-founder at Vembu Technologies, leading sales and marketing and thinking of ways to market ‘a data backup software company' in a cool way. They went on to create probably the first rap song on SaaS, by the name Cloud, Cloud Baby. Lux later went on to start ‘Eyes and Feet' – ‘From online eyeballs to offline footfalls', a social media analytics firm with Joseph Varghese and Kumar Krishnasami, which then got rebranded as Unmetric, a social media benchmarking company for brands – ‘It will tell you right now, what five people need five days to do'. Unmetric provides competitive intelligence, based on the 150k brands which they index. Unmetric ended up creating the category of Social Analytics in the otherwise crowded space of Social Publishing and Social Listening tools. They eventually got acquired by Falcon.io.In his words ‘From the beginning of October, to the end of October, we moved from being an independent company to having a parent, grandparents, and great-grandparents in one stroke'Tune in to this episode to learn the Journey of Unmetric from a Bedroom in Chennai to Boardroom in Copenhagen. Here are other key takeaways from this episode.Cognitive dissonance and marketingHow to coin brand names and product narratives which leaves your brand memorableHow to pitch your product to customers in a way you never had thought of beforeHow to use business card for content marketingWhy category creation is fascinating and scary at the same timeContext Marketing : A secret sauce that many don't shareBest practices to work with PR agenciesUsing Data & Art for Brilliant Storytelling Tune in for more insights, happy listening!
This week's episode is a trip down a very strange rabbit hole. OZY is a wildly sketchy media company that is now being accused of fraud. So Luke and Ryan sat down and went through five years worth of the company's social analytics, across Comscore, CrowdTangle, and SocialBlade. What they discovered was stranger and more confusing than they ever imagined. But they also came very close to getting a full picture of what OZY appears to have been doing for the last few years and why.
How is a neoliberal economy planned? How should a socialist economy be planned? We parse through the “socialist calculation debate.” First laying out the critiques of socialist state planning—and the supposed superiority of the price system and spontaneous order under the market—posed by the original theorists of neoliberal thought: Ludwig Von Mises and Friedrich Hayek. Then knocking them down one-by-one as we consider what a successor of Project Cybersyn might look like. In this episode, I chat with Joe Martin, the GM and VP of Marketing at CloudApp, a visual collaboration tool. What I really liked about this episode is that he talks about, as a remote-first tool, how they're approaching this new remote economy that we live in. So he talks about the boom and traffic they've seen, the signups, and how they've adjusted things to be more applicable than ever. He also talks about customer experience because their tool relates to design and great customer experiences. And they've done a fabulous job of collecting customer and non-customer feedback and designing their product. Joe has more than 13 years of experience in marketing in the tech industry. Prior to his role at CloudApp, Joe was the Head of Social Analytics at Adobe where he led paid social strategy and a research team providing strategic guidance to organizations within the company. He’s been published in the Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, NY Times, and other top tier outlets. Find the show notes for this episode here! Watch this episode on Youtube here. In episode 17 you'll meet Jeff Revoy, CEO of Viralheat and Paul Sebastien, Chief Marketing Officer at Deutsche Telekom HBS / T-Mobile. You'll learn how T-Mobile launched a successful pilot program for a new B2B VoIP offering using Viralheat for predictive social analytics. This was the first time T-Mobile was attempting to launch a B2B product. Paul’s team embarked on comprehensive reach across multiple networks. Targeted keywords were established to determine sentiment about the T-Mobile brand. Additionally, Paul set out to identify customers who are not satisfied with their existing VoIP system. The Viralheat insights were integrated with Salesforce data and other look up data to identify relevant people for a pilot program. Paul intelligently selected a target list that resulted in 500 target customers for a pilot. Paul said “because they are so relevant and engaged, they are more than just customers, they became influencers.” Tune into this episode of the Social Business Engine podcast. Visit our show notes for a download of the T-Mobile / Viralheat case study using predictive social analytics at www.socialbusinessengine.com.
Dan loves data, social media data specifically. He learned from a young age the value of bridging the gap from data & information to insight & intelligence. After graduating with a degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada, Dan managed business intelligence initiatives across many industries, from high-tech to finance to healthcare, before focusing on social media. Dan started TwitSprout to help any individual or business track their efforts in social media. The growth of TwitSprout during beta soon required more than his home computer could support. Dan joined forces with Adrian Petrescu (@apetresc) and Abhinav Ajgaonkar (@abh1nv) to help scale TwitSprout for a growing userbase. You can learn more about the team here. Dan spends his time with TwitSprout's users to learn which new features would be powerful additions to the platform. Since launching publicly in January 2012 (last month!) they have seen awesome adoption of the new Facebook Page dashboards by business and agencies. Read Full Story
