The US Department of Justice says the police response to a deadly school shooting in 2022 was a failure. The school shooting in Ulvade,Texas, resulted in the death of 19 students and two teachers. Dozens of officers descended on Robb Elementary School soon after police were notified, but took over an hour to confront and kill the gunman. The scathing report said there were cascading failures of leadership and decision-making within the police response. Ben Strang spoke to U.S correspondent Benji Hyer.

Christy and Cameron Rodgers had their babies just weeks apart - Christy's 4th and Cameron's 1st - and Christy was so inspired by Cameron's honesty and vulnerability as Cameron shared her 4th trimester experience in real time. This week, Christy and Cameron talk about Cameron's mental health journey postpartum, including why weaning was critical to her mental health, why her depression hit 3-4 months into parenthood, and the power of focusing on one small win a day when you're working to find happiness in your life. They also chat about what surprised them most about the 4th trimester and the late-night impulse buys that helped them to survive the “fever dream” of those early days of new parenthood, including this miracle baby shusher. Programming note: Christy and Cameron share their real-time reactions to the Ulvade shooting at the beginning of this episode.

Al Gore (pictured), probably the most famous of climate activists, equates the failure by police to act at the Ulvade mass shooting with climate denialism - it's a failure to walk through the door. You can read the story and hear Al Gore's comment at the story from The Independent: "Al Gore compares climate denialism to police inaction during Uvalde mass shooting". And on The Conversation, Ivan Hanigan, and three compatriots, write about: "Drought increases rural suicide, and climate change will make drought worse". Norm is joined as he is at the start of every work week by producer of law and legitimacy and North Carolina-based attorney, W. Michael Boyer. On the menu for the first hour is the latest developments in the Elon Musk-Twitter acquisition efforts. In particular, Musk and his team sent a letter terminating the deal and Twitter has responded by filing a lawsuit in the Delaware Chancery Court seeking Elon's specific performance of the $44B contract between them, along with a motion to set an expedited trial schedule. Norm queries Mike on the basics of Twitter as a technology, the basics of the deal, and the basics of the lawsuit Twitter has filed. So far, Elon and his team have only responded in opposition to Twitter's motion to expedite trial. We await the disposition of that motion before Elon and his team will file an answer to Twitter's lawsuit in earnest. Mike speculates about the reasons anchoring Twitter's strategy, the likelihood of the success, and ponders the profound idea that a court could ever grant Twitter equitable relief—that is, order Elon and his team—to spend $44B. Is there sound legal precedent? Norm backs up to establish the legal fundamentals of every contract (e.g., offer, acceptance, consideration) and Mike illustrates the concepts using the facts of Elon-Twitter lawsuit. The two end the first hour by analyzing the most recent information flowing from the investigation of the Ulvade shooting—370+ officers responded but no one had the impetus to intervene in more than an hour of unabated massacre? Are we at a crisis of competency in this country? In the second hour, Norm forges ahead solo. He opens with a historical lookback of witchcraft and executions in the early colonial territory of Connecticut. Connecticut's experiments predate the Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts. How is it that we come to believe things that in a calmer moment may be implausible? In the 17th century, there was a phenomenon known as "Frontier Anxiety." Are we experiencing that today in some material respect? And is the continued preoccupation with remedying the alleged wrongs from hundreds of years ago a troubling development for a country seemingly infatuated with race based transfer payments? US correspondent Kelsey Snell details another mass shooting - this time in Indiana - which was thwarted by a bystander who shot the 20-year-old gunman dead. Meanwhile it's been revealed 400 police officers were at the scene of the Ulvade school shooting - but didn't intervene. Kelsey will also update us on the January 6 hearings - which wants deleted text messages from the Secret Service that day, and President Biden's controversial trip to Saudi Arabia. Kelsey Snell is a congressional correspondent for NPR, based in Washington DC.

This week the gang is all back together in one studio and they have a lot to discuss. First things first as they tackle the courts vote to overturn Roe v. Wade and the news of the Ulvade school being demolished. Its a sad week is football as we lose even more young athletes in the sports world Turning to a positive note the crew talks about the new recruits joining the NBA as the NBA draft took place as well as the new rumors that have formed around certain teams during this years off season. Ground retires yet again while Netflix cuts more employees and somehow Grubhub saves a woman's life. All that and more on this weeks episode of Speak Your Piece
WARNING: DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU'RE EASILY TRIGGERED. Just scroll down and click on 'download.' As I discussed in my rant about the leaked opinion by the SCOTUS at the end of the Gay Anthems For A New Generation 2022 Volume 3 — everything I said has been set in motion. Yesterday's opinion abolishing the right to abortion sets back 50 years of precedent. Not only does it relegate women to second-class status but gives states complete and total control over their uterus. In several states, these laws are already on the books or coming to a backasswards christofacist state near you shortly. There will be no exceptions for incest, rape, or the health of the mother. Women who have miscarriages, will be dragged down to the police station and interrogated. Unless you're wealthy or have connections — many of these women will be found guilty and given lengthy jail sentences for murder. Other women who have ectopic pregnancies, will be forced to carry the baby to term and not only deliver a dead baby but will kill the mother in the process. Virtually nothing changed in the final opinion but there were several concurring opinions of varying degrees and three descents. One of the concurring opinions was by self-proclaimed originalist Justice Clarence Thomas a.k.a. Uncle Tom. Because the court struck Roe v. Wade down reasoning that the Constitution does not mention abortion and that there's no guaranteed right to privacy under the 14th amendment's due process claims — he specifically stated that the court needs to revisit past rules that codified the rights of contraception, same-sex marriage, and same-sex intimacy — all rights won under in various court rulings using the same argument that legalized abortion. Never mind that under the original text of the Constitution, Justice Thomas is considered only 3/5 human. Equally, he conveniently left out inter-racial marriage, which was also won using the same legal arguments for the above and which he currently maintains with his batshit crazy wife Ginni Thomas. Expect to hear her name a lot in the coming months for her part in trying to overthrow our government. In a concurring opinion, Justice Thomas wrote that the court should "reconsider" rulings on contraception, same-sex relationships, and same-sex marriage. -Business Insider So for everyone that thought this case doesn't affect them — you're in for a rude awakening. During this same term, the court overturned a 100-year-old law in New York that had stringent requirements for open carry (of guns) in public spaces. All this after the mass shooting in Buffalo and Ulvade while for the first time since the 1990s — a bipartisan gun control bill passed the Senate with the support of 14 Republicans. Mind you, this bill does some good like placing extra scrutiny and background checks on anyone 18 - 21 purchasing a firearm and it closes the boyfriend loophole preventing abusive boyfriends from obtaining a gun. This is not a game-changer but it's a start. Meanwhile, Congress had to pass additional funding to protect the six radical right-wing justices and their extended families because of their activism. So protection from guns for thee but not we. During this same term, the court has further eroded the separation of church and state forcing taxpayers to pay for the religious indoctrination of children. You seriously cannot make this shit up. This court is unrestrained and relishes the fact that they get to impose the will of the Catholic church on secular society. I have a long history with the church, which I won't bore you with because it's personal and deeply painful. Don't be fooled by inflation and high gas prices as being a Democrat issue. Biden didn't cause these problems on a global basis because it is not unique to the United States and affects every country on the planet. We need a down-top approach to the mid-terms and everyone must do their part by supporting their Democratic candidates for local, state,
Abby and Robbie Martin cover Biden's failed Summit of the Americas, where Abby confronted Secretary of State Antony Blinken about the Israeli assassination of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, and numerous Latin American countries boycotted due to the exclusion of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. They talk about the mass shootings in Ulvade and Buffalo and how this unique phenomenon is an extension of extreme American narcissism Empire Baby syndrome, the strategy of tension surrounding the anti-trans hysteria being cultivated by the GOP and the leaked SCOTUS draft about overturning Roe v Wade, and how the mind bending AI art tools like DALL E 2 is about to change our reality. Recently the world watched as 19 elementary school children were gunned down by a murderer with an assault weapon, while the police stood down and did nothing. Furthermore, police abused and attacked parents desperate to save their children. This Monday, a video was released that clearly showed a man drowining in an Arizona lake, pleading with police, and again--the police did nothing. A reasonable person would assum that the police in each case would be held legally accountabble, and that 'reasonable' person would be wrong. This report will dicuss the history of policing in the USA, why it was created, and why police can stand down as children are murdered. The legal case which justifies police cowardice derives from a 2005 Supreme Court opinion written by the man who gave us Citizens United--the late Antonin Scalia. I will discuss thie case of Castle Rock v. Gonzales. I will then discuss how the theoretical underpinnings of the law can often undermine justice itself. We will also name the honored recipient for the Jackass of the Week Award. Come listen Jeanine.
In Uvalde, the shooter's grandmother faced the rage of a troubled grandson and, according to multiple reports, a daughter with a history of drug use. At least one incident required law enforcement to the home of the shooter's mother – and neighbors and relatives knew of the turbulent relationship between son and mother. Mental issues and drug abuse create a toxic brew of chronic impairments that will not resolve independently. Those challenges hopelessly outmatch even the best of grandmothers. In the case of Nicolas Cruz, who killed students at Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018, law enforcement made 39 visits to the gunman's home – most of the calls seemingly from his mother. A few months following his mother's death, Nicolas Cruz massacred 17 people. Sometimes, a family caregiver is the last line of defense between a killer and society. A caller to my show for family caregivers discussed her mother's increasing dementia. As the story unfolded, she related how her drug-addicted brother habitually stole from her mother and acted abusively towards her. The caller then shared that her brother, although a felon, kept a firearm under his bed and that she regularly feared for her safety. Asking why she didn't call the police about her dangerous brother, she finally broke down and sobbed on the air. Through tears, she shared that her brother threatened that if she called the police, he would expose moral issues she had before becoming a Christian. Her embarrassment and shame compromised her safety from an armed and unstable brother. Gently explaining to her the nature of Christ, who forgives, redeems, and never blackmails, I encouraged her to protect herself and her mother by calling the authorities – that day. A year later, she phoned the program and sounded like a different person. After calling the police, her brother was arrested and entered a treatment plan. With exuberance in her voice, she shared that she and her brother have started the path of reconciliation. While her story took a better turn, many caregivers living close to an armed and disturbed individual suffer tragic outcomes – like what happened in Uvalde. Despite the best political minds and arguments, the human heart remains outside the jurisdiction of any legislation. The Ten Commandments contain no ambiguity and came directly from God, yet politicians today think their laws will triumph where God's did not. Read the entire Article at Foxnews.com
Our last podcast described the racist criminal mayhem in Buffalo, NY. After the podcast was uploaded for broadcast, but before it was released, Salvadore Ramos killed 19 school children and two teachers in Ulvade, Texas. Serge and I promised our listeners that we would address this ongoing problem in our next podcast. We have. After a short discussion about the Ulvade massacre, Serge and I discuss "The Columbia Plan." The Columbia Plan is our ten-point idea to call upon America's best and brightest to determine the best practices to prevent or significantly deter intentional mass casualty events. In the 19th century, "Columbia" was the goddess-like personification of the United States and liberty itself. Our 21 century idea is to mimic the Manhattan Project (1942-1946) with the goal of assessing and publishing the best ideas from 20 disciplines to stop or deter intentional mass casualty events. Serge and I have put our thoughts to paper. We are writing to everyone and their brother. We ask you to listen and to join in a push to address this national crisis.
This Sunday, I will report on an alt-right group in Missouri known as Liberty Alliance. This group has released a 'Woke' Map, which targets specific schools and school districts in Missouri, which are believed to be indoctrinating children in 'socialism', 'explicit sexual instruction in terms of the LGBTQ community', as well as 'grooming toddlers for sexual activity.' This 'Woke' Map appears amidst the tragedy of the Ulvade mass murders at Robb Elementary School. This 'Woke' Map is not only the height of irresponsibility; it is an invitation, an incitement to future violence against our schools, but that's not the most shocking detail. This group is run by GOP operatives in Missouri and derives funding from that same GOP. This group's website includes a section for 'Conservative Champions,' which includes the Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmidt, (who is running for Roy Blunt's US Senate seat), and Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft. Ashcroft is the son of former US Attorney General John Ashcroft, during the George W. Bush administration. You remember--the same John Ashcroft that tolerated legalized TORTURE--in direct violation of the 8th amendment! This doesn't get any more 'mainstream' GOP than the Ashcrofts. Liberty Alliance IS an alt-right group (IMHO), which is actively targeting its political enemies in our SCHOOLS. Come join me as I DOXX this group. Jeanine
What You Need to Know is Biden forgives student loans. What you're seeing is crony government at its best. President Biden is canceling student loan debt for about half a billion students — Biden cancels all remaining student loan debt from Corinthian Colleges. This will wipe out about five billion dollars worth of student debt. When adults make decisions about taking out a loan, they need to be responsible for paying it back. John Schlafly delivers the #SchlaflyReport: Where's the Praise of Heroic Border Patrol? John shares how last week it was the border patrol agents who went into Ulvade school and stopped the shooter. Now they are getting lost in the shuffle and we need to make sure they are honored for their heroic actions last week. Find all of John's work with his brother Andy Schlafly at PhyllisSchlafly.com. Buddy Ullman, retired Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from The Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), discusses how 50 years ago Title IX was created to prevent discrimination, today it's used to hunt down dissenters of wokeness. Buddy explains that the problem with Title IX is the regulations that are very political. Wrap up: Let's reflect on graduating — This is an exciting transition time in life. We continue to share information about the Ulvade Community and as importantly what each of us can do to support it. Right now, the familias in Ulvade are leaning on each other, and we need to help them directly by supporting their local organizations. At the State and Federal Level, call your representative as well as Texas representatives and let them know you demand they change the gun laws in order to protect our children. Banning assault rifles and lifting the age requirements are two common sense restrictions we can demand. A constitutional right to own guns does not mean we have the right to murder innocent children. Eighteen year olds should NOT have the right to buy assault rifles, period. The first half of this episode includes a weekly catch up session, new food recommendations, a possible visitation from someone who passed on, and Jamie mentions two podcast listeners, who turned friends, who turned business partners. The latter part of the episode involves Jamie's thoughts on gun control and the recent Ulvade, TX shooting. A trigger warning is given prior to this discussion. A personal message from Jamie: The outro song is "Hole in the World" by the Eagles. I chose this song for the back of my dad's prayer card. Not only did he love the band, but the lyrics described exactly how my family and I felt when we lost him. Given that I spoke about him in this episode and the Ulvade, TX tragedy, the song and sentiment also go out to the victims: Makenna Lee Elrod, 10, Layla Salazar, 10, Miranda Mathis, 11, Nevaeh Bravo, 10, Jose Manuel Flores Jr., 10, Xavier Lopez, 10, Tess Marie Mata, 10, Rojelio Torres, 10, Eliana "Ellie" Garcia, 9, Eiliahna Cruz Torres, 10, Annabell Guadalupe Rodriquez, 10, Jackie Cazares, 10, Uziyah Garcia, 10, Jayce Carmelo Luevanos, 10, Maite Yuleana Rodriguez, 10, Jailah Nicole Silguero, 10, Irma Garcia, 48, Eva Mireles, 44, Amerie Jo Garza, 10, Alexandria "Lexi' Aniyah Rubio, 10, and Alithia Ramirez, 10. Ken releases his Beach Talk with Betsey from his quarantine in the BWM Studios. It's been one more heartbreaking week... tragedy upon tragedy. The shooting in Ulvade begs the question of gun laws - an 18-year-old purchases two AR 15s, with the capacity to kill scores of people in minutes. The shooting in Buffalo begs the question of race and white supremacy. Politicians who deflect both questions are exposed for who they are. Coach Steve Kerr displays the rage many of us feel. The Governor of Texas assures the NRA that he will not give in - Beto O'Rourke confronts Governor Abbott in a press conference. While Ken does not support this namesake from George, Brian Kemp stands up to the former President and wins the Republican nomination for Governor. Ken and Betsey talk about the ambiguities of the 2024 presidential contest - can Joe Biden win a second term?Support the show
School shootings are an outward symptom of a greater sickness. This is especially illustrated when comparing the level of violence in the United States as compared to other nations. Yet, there is a solution. Learn the U.S. Bishops' perspective on this dire issue and how we as Catholics are called to respond. This homily was given by Father Mayer on May 29, 2022.

As the population over 65 becomes more ethnically diverse, how ready are care providers to help meet their religious and spiritual needs? It's a question which has inspired Maaha Suleiman to come up with an App designed to help Care Agencies and Councils match people based on religious and cultural understanding. Our reporter Vishva Samani looks at how it works in practice. The official celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday will include a special Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul's. The Dean, the Very Revd. Dr. David Ison, shares some of the plans the Cathedral has in store. Following the Church of Scotland's vote to allow clergy to conduct same-sex marriages, we ask what it means for the future of the Church and its wider Protestant family. We hear from those right at the heart of the issue, the Rev Prof Andrew McGowan and the Rev. Scott M Rennie. The Most Revd Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, tells us about the power of reconciliation, the theme of his latest book. And in the wake of the massacres at Buffalo and now Ulvade in the United States, we ask why some Christians oppose gun law reform. We hear from the Rev. Jim Wallis, Director of the Centre on Faith and Justice at Georgetown University and a former Pastor John Correia, Founder and Owner of Active Self Protection, a self-defence and firearms training company. Within the span of a week, we have witnessed two brutal mass murders, one in Buffalo, New York, and the other in Ulvade, Texas. The mass murder in Buffalo was clearly a hate crime, with an 18 year old shooter who published a 180 page manifesto filled with racist and neo Nazi tropes. Most of the victims were elderly and black. In Ulvade, Texas we witnessed another 18 year old, enter an elementary school and proceed to murder 19 children and 2 teachers. In both instances, the GOP of Trump continues to lie to the public and blame the shootings on mental illness. The same GOP then scapegoats any dissent by shrieking the trope of 'politicizing' the tragedies. In both instances, the police were late and ineffectual. Today's show will discuss the issue of the 2nd amendment, what it actually says, and the corruption of the GOP. Our Jackass of the Week Award will also be awarded to a very deserving party. Come join us. Jeanine

On Tuesday, May 24th, a gunman opened fire at an elementary school in Ulvade, Texas, killing 19 students and two teachers. Sadly, this has become an all-too-common occurrence in our nation. As we grapple with how to respond, it's important to acknowledge a simple truth: we have a spiritual problem of massive proportions in this country. We cannot legislate the human heart. Today I'll be discussing the spiritual implications of this tragedy, and why I believe that “gun free zones'' will never be the answer to gun violence.
