In just two days, we will mark the 6th anniversary of the Las Vegas shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. Firing from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay, Stephen Paddock fired more than 1,000 rounds in 11 minutes. After killing 60 people and injuring nearly 500 people, Paddock turned the gun on himself. It is the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The motive? No one knows. That's right, the FBI is stumped. As well as the Las Vegas Metro Police. Last year, the FBI released documents in response to a FOIA request. Nothing in there exposes a motive either. It does give a little insight into Paddock's mindset, possibly. He is described as a “prolific gambler.” He would gamble anywhere from 6-8 hours a day playing video poker. Sometimes he played up to 18 hours a day. According to interviews conducted by the FBI of Paddock's friends and acquaintances, we know that Paddock described him as a “strange,” introverted, and someone who never made eye contact. Paddock only wanted to talk about gambling. Another gambler claims that Paddock was “very upset” that those days of pampering high rollers were over. The FBI's report from 2019 suggests Paddock might have sought notoriety and perhaps wanted to follow in the footsteps of this criminal father. The FBI also notes Paddock's physical and mental health was declining, as well as his money. But just because the FBI doesn't know what the motive doesn't mean they're worried to find out. On October 1, 2017 as Jason Aldean was on-stage gracing tens of thousands of adoring fans at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, a flurry of rapid-fire bullets ripped through the night from high above on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay resort and casino. Dr. Shiva Ghaed is a California-licensed Clinical Psychologist, currently working for the Department of Mental Health in the Naval Medical Center San Diego healthcare system (Marine Corps Recruit Depot). Dr. Ghaed provides group and individual therapy to active duty patients in the catchment area, maintains ongoing involvement in academia and research, and has served as a voting member on the Institutional Review Board for NMCSD. Dr. Ghaed’s clinical experience includes several years of training and specialization in the Veterans Affairs Healthcare Systems of San Diego and Los Angeles. She completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the San Diego VA, specializing in anxiety disorders, non-combat trauma, and combat Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)/Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) veterans. Dr. Ghaed is a member of the American Psychological Association, and strives to maintain competency and excellence as a therapist and professional in her field. In 2015, she was presented with the Associate Master Clinician Award. Oct 1, 2017, Dr. Ghaed’s love of country music took her to Route 91 on the night of the shooting in Las Vegas and she, along with many others, witnessed the horror of that night as people around her were shot and killed. She found purpose and meaning in surviving the massacre, and made it her mission to give back to her community and help guide other Route 91 survivors in their healing. One week following the shooting, Dr. Ghaed launched a free weekly support group for survivors and their family and friends. She posted weekly therapy-based articles specifically catered to and witnessing the Route 91 community recovery process. Her goal is to help people better cope with the traumatic aftermath through education and support, and with the hope of preventing the development of PTSD. A website was created, www.route91therapy.com, to allow public access to these documents, and this information has been disseminated to the Route 91 community across the United States and Canada. In April, 2018, Dr. Ghaed was honored with the Citizens of Courage Award by the San Diego District Attorney’s Office, and the National Hero Award by the American Red Cross (Metro New York). There are still many people who have not connected to care or who do not have adequate social support or healthcare. Dr. Ghaed’s strong belief that healthcare is a basic human right, her faith in the resiliency of the human spirit, and her sense of obligation to serving others fuels a mission of destigmatizing mental illness through knowledge and awareness. Legally Insane MGM Suing Victims of Mass Shooting - Episode 48 The MGM Casino is suing the victims of the Las Vegas Mass Shooting that happening during the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. This lawsuit is being filed under the provisions of “The Safety Act”. As of July 2018 the MGM has sued over 1900 victims/families of victims of the mass shooting. Essentially the MGM knows it’s going to be sued by these victims for their suffering, so they’re counter suing to get a judge to rule that they have no liability for the shooter. Matt and Tony jump into this topic with the upmost disgust for this loophole. Highlights: [06:00] – The MGM offered to make a $500 charitable donation in the name of each person who accepts legal notice of the lawsuit and does not try and sue the MGM. [09:10] – After 911 the Federal Gov’t set up a law called “The Safety Act” The Safety Act protects parties for claims resulting from acts of terrorism. [11:40] – The CSC Corporation was hired by the MGM to perform security for the music festival. The MGM is using this to say they went to great lengths to ensure concertgoers safety. Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff, Nick Ayers, told a group of Republican donors earlier this week that they should consider jettisoning any Republican members of Congress who don't back President Trump's agenda. While donors "didn't bat an eye" according to David Drucker of the Washington Examiner, congressional Republicans were livid over the comments. "I really think there's a power struggle for control of the Republican Party going on," says Drucker, the senior political correspondent for the Washington Examiner.
