Welcome to What Matters Now, a weekly podcast exploring key issues currently shaping Israel and the Jewish World, with host Amanda Borschel-Dan speaking with Mitch Ginsburg, a producer at the Israel Story podcast. Ginsburg, a former military reporter for The Times of Israel, brings us a special episode from Israel's flagship podcast series, called The Hebrew Hobbit: A Passover Special. In it, Ginsburg charts the tale of a number of Israeli POWs who took upon themselves the unlikely task of translating JRR Tolkien's "The Hobbit" while imprisoned together in an Egyptian jail. In a vivid soundscape, Ginsburg brings a 360-degree account of life before, during and after their detention -- for the soldiers and those they left behind. This Passover holiday, we hear the improbable story of a group of Israeli men who formed a mini-kibbutz in the heart of an enemy country's prison and what happened after their exodus from Egypt. So this week, we ask Israel Story's Mitch Ginsburg, what matters now? What Matters Now podcasts are available for download on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts. Correction and/or consequences of sin can leave you resentful, bitter, doubtful of His love. Remembering God has chosen you for a greater purpose gives such suffering meaning and purpose. This Passover season let's remember that choosing by God… a choosing for a purpose far greater than just our own personal salvation. Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" Numbers 9 – The Passover and the Cloud Over the Tabernacle Numbers 9 highlights two key events: the observance of the Passover in the wilderness and God's guidance of Israel through the cloud over the Tabernacle. The Second Passover (Numbers 9:1-14) God commands the Israelites to celebrate the Passover at its appointed time (the 14th day of the first month). This Passover was significant because it was the first one observed after leaving Egypt. However, some men were ceremonially unclean due to contact with a dead body and could not participate. They approached Moses, asking for guidance. God then provides a provision—those who are unclean or on a journey during the Passover can celebrate it one month later (on the 14th day of the second month). This demonstrates God's fairness and willingness to accommodate those who desire to obey Him. However, those who neglect the Passover without a valid reason are cut off from Israel, showing the seriousness of this observance. The Cloud Over the Tabernacle (Numbers 9:15-23) A cloud covers the Tabernacle, representing God's presence and guidance. When the cloud lifts, the Israelites move forward; when it remains, they stay in place. This divine leading occurs whether the cloud stays for a long or short period. This passage teaches absolute dependence on God's direction. The Israelites move only at God's command, reinforcing their trust in Him. The cloud by day and fire by night symbolizes God's protection, presence, and leadership. Key Lessons from Numbers 9: 1.Obedience to God's Commands – The Israelites are reminded of the importance of following God's instructions, whether through observing the Passover or moving according to His guidance. 2.God's Fairness and Mercy – The provision for those unable to celebrate the Passover on time shows God's understanding and grace. 3.God's Presence and Guidance – The cloud and fire serve as a visible reminder that God is leading His people. Just as they relied on His movement, believers today are called to trust in God's timing and direction. Numbers 9 emphasizes faithfulness, obedience, and the ever-present guidance of God in the lives of His people.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sendme-radio--732966/support.
Before the physical liberation of Israel out of Egypt, God instituted a meal of spiritual victory for His people. This Passover meal has echoed through the ages and has become a taste of our ultimate liberation through Jesus Christ. Join us this week as we discuss life, death, blood and unleavened bread.

God gives specific Passover preparations to Moses, directing how the people are to remember their liberation from slavery. This Passover takes on enormous significance when it is celebrated by Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God! July 21, 2023 - Cathedral Rectory - Superior, WI Fr. Andrew Ricci - www.studyprayserve.com
May the Lamb receive the reward of His Suffering, This Passover more than celebrating the work of the cross we declare that Christ is worthy to receive the reward of what he suffered for. Preaching this resurrection Sunday is Pastor Wayne Sandeman, He takes us through the experience of what Christ did for us, not only on earth but by unveiling the secrets of Heaven, He is the Lamb worthy to open the scroll. More than what Christ did for us, the question of what are the little things that we have given ourselves to over and above our King of Kings.
We wonder, “Is our prayer effective? Is it getting through to God? Is He hearing? Is He seeing the depth of wickedness, darkness, and evil in the world that is swallowing up the children of God, oppressing them, and holding them in bondage from serving Him as they would?” The Passover teaches us that God does hear our cry; He does come down; and He does deliver us. Show Notes: When we read about the Passover in Exodus, we find two dynamic elements. One is the cry of God's people going up to Him and the other is God hearing their cry and coming down. An important lesson for us is that when God comes down everything changes. Today we are crying out for what some term a revival or an outpouring. To me it is a cry for His return to earth. It is a cry for His presence. As at the first Passover, it is His presence that will change everything. The Passover represents the moment at which God came down and engaged in the situations surrounding His people. He engaged in their bondage. He engaged in their sin and their lack of faith and obedience to Him. He dealt with everything and everybody. He dealt with Moses. He dealt with Israel. He dealt with Pharaoh. He dealt with the Egyptians and the gods of Egypt. Everyone is dealt with when God enters the scene. This principle applies to our crying out to God in this day. As it was with Israel, God's presence with us does not mean our circumstances are immediately better because God begins to deal with us as well as with everything that is oppressing us. He is going to deal with everything that must be dealt with in order to accomplish His will in the earth. And we need to be ready to participate in that process. We must remain faithful and live in faith knowing that God is here to accomplish His perfect and complete work in bringing His Kingdom and our deliverance. Key Verses: • Isaiah 64:1–4. “Oh, that You would rend the heavens and come down.” • Exodus 3:6–9. “I have … given heed to their cry. … So I have come down to deliver them.” • Exodus 4:1. “What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say?” • Exodus 4:10–12. “Now then go, and I, even I, will be with your mouth.” • 1 Thessalonians 5:23. “May your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” • Exodus 5:1–2. “Pharaoh said, ‘…I will not let Israel go.'” • Exodus 5:6–9. “You are no longer to give the people straw to make brick as previously.” • Exodus 5:19–23. “You have made us odious in Pharaoh's sight.” • Exodus 12:12–14. “You are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance.” • Exodus 12:29–32. “Rise up, get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go.” • Exodus 14:19. “The angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them.” • Exodus 15:1–2. “Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the Lord.” • Exodus 19:9. “I will come to you in a thick cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you.” • Exodus 19:16. “There were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain.” • 2 Corinthians 7:1. “Let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit.” Quotes: • “It's been a long time since He's been on the scene, and I think we lose the concept of really what it is to have God present.” • “God never comes just to change the outward circumstances that we live in. God comes to change us in our heart towards Him.” • “As He begins to move, yes, He's come down, but He has come down to move through you.” Takeaways: 1. When God comes down, it is impossible for things to stay the same. One aspect is that circumstances do not always get better in the moment. We will go through God's dealings, His purifying, purging, and refining of our hearts as He removes all defilement of flesh and spirit from us. 2. When God comes down the gods of this age will be judged. The gods that hold us in bondage, the false gods that are being served and worshipped in the world will be judged. And we will break into a worship we have never known before. It will be a new day of constant worship as we find in heaven. 3. When God comes down there is a visible, tangible presence of God as it was with Israel in the wilderness. Their lifestyle completely changed as they lived in His presence. This Passover let our cry be, “God come down.” Let that be our cry every day until we see His presence literally manifested in this world and our lifestyle is living with Him.
Are you familiar with the 3 seasons of Moses' rod? This year's Passover, 2023, you will discover the 3 seasons of Moses' staff, or rod… · Bondage · Herdsman/shepherd · Authority Passover, an appointed time on God's calendar, is about leaving Egypt and coming out of slavery and bondage. The same piece of wood Moses took with him from Egypt to shepherd the sheep for 40 years became a miracle rod—a rod used to release the people from slavery and into mighty worship for the Lord. This Passover, God is not just moving you out of bondage and slavery, He is moving you into the Promised Land by His mighty rod of instruction—by His miracle rod of deliverance and authority. Discover why Passover 2023 is the year that God is taking the rod—which represents your work for the Lord and your workplace—into new levels of authority. His new book, “Judaism Disrupted: A Spiritual Manifesto for the 21st Century” argues that, some 2,000 years after the birth of rabbinic Judaism, it's time to fashion Judaism into something new. In this week's study, I continue in Chapter 9, discussing the Locust Army.In our last study we read about the sounding of the 5th Trumpet, in which that star was falling from heaven having the key to the bottomless pit which unlocked the door to the demons of hell, being unleashed against those that hate Yahweh's Anointed Elect, deny the True Messiah, King of Kings and Lord of Lords!!!The word abyss (ἄβυσσος) refers to an “immensely deep space” (BDAG) and sometimes refers to the place of the dead in the Old Testament and other Second Temple Jewish literature. But this “bottomless pit” is more often associated with fallen angels and demonic forces.5. First them = that locust armySecond them = those which have not the seal of Yahweh in their foreheads, their brain. Otherwords, the Word of Yahshua Messiah, that's to say the True Gospel. That they should = very important note here, make sure you follow the subject matter, the subject changes: the first “they” is the locusts; the second is the unsealed. We are not talking about Yahweh anointed ones but the unsealed. Remembeber what we just read in John 3:3, “he that hath received His testimony hath set to seal that Elohim is true.”5 months = In the Book of Numbers 9:10-11, we read of a second Passover. This Passover was for those that may have been unclean and could not keep the first Passover. Or maye they were on a far journey. The bottom line is Yahweh allowed them a second opportunity. This second Passover was on the 14th day of the Month of “Zif”. Guess what? If you were to count 150 days “5 months” from here, do you have any idea where you would stop at? On the 15th day of Tisri, The Feast of Tabernacles. Do you know what happened on this day? Our Tabernacle was born, the Lord Yahshua Messiah. I personnaly believe that He could return during the Feast of Tabernacles. We read in Zech. 14, that the first feast that they keep is the Feast of Tabernacles.Locust Army = However, on another level, the Locust Army exists even today. We can see this in our world as the mainstream pushes forward an anti-Yahweh agenda. What exactly is eaten by the Locust Army? Deuteronomy 28:38 explains, Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it.Read Matthew 13 the Parable of the Tares. Here is the order of rank for the Locust Army.Lieutenant – Media, Corporations, etc.Captain – Governments.Major – Satan's angels (when Revelation 12:7-9 is a reality).Colonel – Satan himself (when Revelation 12:7-9 is a reality).General – Yahweh Himself.Remember, this is Yahweh's Army. Yahweh will place His Will into the heart of Satan's angels (Major's, part iron) so they must fulfill Yahweh's Will, (Revelation 17:17).My intention is to take this study to a deep level. Deeper than most of you are used to! I am asking no one to agree with me; however I do ask that you check every detail that I present out for yourself. Don't end up like those in Hosea 4:6 ‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God (Elohim), I will also forget thy children.'But, be like those in 2Timothy 2:15 ‘Study to shew thyself approved unto God (Yahweh), a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.'Join me as we go Chapter by Chapter, Verse by Verse, Unraveling the Words of Yahweh!Have any questions? This Passover, there was an ongoing–sometimes heated–conversation on social media about singing the Negro spiritual “Let My People Go” during the Passover seder. In our conversation this week, April explains why she will continue to sing this song at her Seder table and we get into the nuance and the nitty-gritty of the debate around appropriation vs. appreciation (and we add in a few more steps that folks often miss). When we become aware something we're doing is appropriative, how can we navigate acknowledging the impact of appropriation when we feel deeply invested in the practice in question? How can we open ourselves to the opportunity to invite in greater complexity, nuance, and compassion and avoid either shutting down or defensively protecting the way things have always been? Jori and Abby kicked off this episode chatting about what went down at Abby's Euphoria-themed birthday party, their Passover plans, and their respective rejections from different reality TV shows (Abby applied to Jewish Matchmaking, and Jori and her boyfriend Sol applied to the Amazing Race). After schmoozing for a bit, Two Kosh Girls brought on Sol Lowenstein, a very professional finance bro who also happens to be Jori's boyfriend. We spoke about how to financially smart in our twenties, where to start as a beginner investor, and how to have an equal balance of fun and frugal. Sol compared his approach to money to Lil Dicky's hit song '$ave Dat Money', whereas Jori's style is all about spending that money. Because of their different styles, they balance each other out and make the perfect financially savvy couple. This Passover, we encourage our listeners to appreciate the financial freedom we have achieved thus far, because being smart with our money now will only lead to more adventures in the future. This Passover, we're noticing that folks are quick to identify with the Israelites, but what about the circumstances where we're in the role of the Egyptians? How can we work to dismantle the binary of good and bad, victim and villain and move toward greater wholeness? Can we invite the intervention that will alter the circumstances and lead to freedom? Can we do it without drowning in the proverbial sea? A first step is to build courageous reflection into our Passover practice that acknowledges enslavement or enslavement-like conditions are present in our world right now.CW: Mentions of sexual assault, enslavement, violence, and dehumanization.Apply to our Grounded & Growing intensive here: https://joyous-justice.mykajabi.com/grounded-and-growingFind April and Tracie's full bios and submit topic suggestions for the show at www.JewsTalkRacialJustice.comLearn more about Joyous Justice where April is the founding and fabulous (!) director, and Tracie is a senior partner: https://joyousjustice.com/Support the work our Jewish Black & Native woman-led vision for collective liberation here: https://joyousjustice.com/support-our-workListen to our episode about the oppression scale and the emotional thermometer: https://jewstalkracialjustice.buzzsprout.com/1146023/10037771-ep-75-whoopi-goldberg-the-oppression-scale-and-the-emotional-thermometerLearn more about Shifra and Puah: https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/birthings-and-beginnings/Read more about restorative justice: https://www.edutopia.org/article/what-heck-restorative-justice-heather-wolpert-gawronDiscussion and reflection questions:What in this episode is new for you? In all of human history, there has never been an event with the magnitude and drama of the nation of Israel being freed from their harsh slavery in Egypt. Millions of people and countless flocks literally walked away from generations of harsh servitude. God guided them to their freedom after the 10th plague and through the establishment of the Passover. This Passover event was to be remembered and celebrated year after year for all of their generations to follow. And the whole deliverance-from-Egypt experience was mentioned countless times throughout the history of the Old Testament. Why? Why were these things such vital things to not only remember but to appreciate? It turns out that these things provide massive insights for Christians as to how God's plan really works! A new calendar Not too many events in all of world history can you look at and see a whole new calendar being established because of them. When God told the Hebrews it was time to leave their Egyptian slave masters, He marked this event by establishing a “sacred calendar.” Before going any further with the details, this tells us just how significant their freedom would be in God's mind and plan. The first dates to be recognized on that sacred calendar would be the 10th and the 14th of the month Nisan. Interestingly, neither of these were the date they were actually freed from slavery. Both dates had to do with a lamb. The month of Nisan On the 10th of Nisan each enslaved Hebrew household was to choose a lamb from their herds. The chosen lamb (or goat) was to be the best of the herd. It was to be without any defect, a year old and male. Each household was to slaughter that lamb four days later on the 14th. They were to eat it and put some of its blood on the outside doorframes of their homes. Why so much focus on the meal of a lamb when they are about to be freed from generations of slavery? The deliverance millions of Hebrews would experience would not come as a result of a revolt or a war. Their freedom would come because of the lamb. The lamb would be the centerpiece of Israel's Passover, Israel's deliverance, that would for thousands of years be celebrated on the 14th of Nisan. Check out our April 11,2022 podcast, “Why Should Christians Care About Israel's Deliverance From Slavery?” for more. We piece together many of the fascinating and meticulous details of this first Passover. We then open the floodgates of biblical testimony that show how the Passover was a profound picture of God's plan of salvation through Jesus. The lamb, the meal they ate, the manner in which they ate it, the sparing of the firstborn and the deliverance of the nation all told a bigger story. Join us for this amazing journey into Israel's amazing deliverance from slavery that painted a detailed picture of how salvation in Jesus works.
This is the first Passover meal that was performed and it was powerful. This Passover meal was in Egypt while the people of Israel were in captivity. It was the night before the people of Israel would leave captivity in Egypt forever. During the night, after the meal, all the firstborn of Egypt, all the houses without the blood on the doorposts, would perish as the death angel passed through. God’s people were protected by the blood and their obedience. The people of Israel were to leave Egypt, but they had to take the first step. See how this weaves right into the Last Supper that Jesus had with his disciples and the power that it too still has in our lives.

And your lower-case hosts said, "Let there be Passover Pod." This Passover, Noah and Chance watch three Hollywood adaptations of the Moses story: "The Ten Commandments" (1956), "The Prince of Egypt" (1998) and "Exodus: Gods and Kings" (2014). It's eight hours of plagues and partings, as we pass judgment on epic Exodus, animated Exodus and atheist Exodus. Behold!
I’m ready to be delivered from pandemics and racism and strife. This Passover and Easter let’s celebrate our exodus from Covid and chow down on some matzoh nachos
This Passover ritual is also a powerful and transformative heart centered practice that can guide us towards our own personal liberation. I remember that this story can be mapped onto my own life. That I can cause myself suffering. That I can liberate myself. That I can honor my heart by approaching it with holiness and not heaviness. That to get out of Mitzrayim- my own personal narrow place I have to read myself into the text and confront my own inner pharoah.
This Passover was more literally like the first Passover in Egypt than any we have experienced in our lifetimes. Everyone has been hunkered down in their homes, waiting for the plague to pass over. Sharon and Philip Buss bring you into a deeper revelation about what Pentecost is really all about so you know what to expect as God pours out His Spirit on all mankind to bring in the greatest Harvest that the world has ever known.
In Numbers 9:1-5 we see them celebrate the Passover. This Passover is at Sinai. This is the first Passover which is celebrated as a remembrance. This is the second Passover, the first Passover was when they were about to leave Egypt and now this Passover is one year later. In verses 6-14 we see instructions for the delayed Passover. This is because some could not celebrate the Passover because of uncleanness. Remember we worship God and He is holy and how we worship Him must be in holiness. In verses 15-23 we see instructions about the cloud covering the Tabernacle. This cloud is God’s presence.
I invite you to join me on Thursday, April 9 @ 5:30 PM PDT via Facebook Live on my Destined4Torah Facebook page for A Light that Transcends the Darkness. God has a word of hope and an expected end through the Cross of Calvary. "45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour." [Matthew 27:45 RSV] Every hour that Jesus hung on the Cross was strategic in God’s redemption plan for you. This Passover is for your redemption. Redemption is the reason for this Season (Moed or appointed time). There is A Light that Transcends the Darkness. You are going to receive such a revelation of God’s love and His protection plan for your life as you receive a revelation of the Light and the Darkness in the Creation and in the plagues of Egypt. The Light will always prevail over the Darkness. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/destined4torah/support

Episode 7: In this episode, Rabbi Soloveichik demonstrates the often-missed political wisdom in the Haggadah’s story of the sages who were discussed the Exodus from Egypt “all night.” In doing so, he brings into relief how Judaism preserves rabbis’ philosophical and theological insights even when they do not become the law.

Episode 6: In this episode, Rabbi Soloveichik examines some misunderstandings about maror, the bitter herb of the Seder plate, and its relation to the paschal lamb. How does it point to the connection between the celebrations of our freedom and the suffering of past generations? And if maror represents our slavery in Egypt before liberation, why doesn’t it come first among the Seder foods?

Episode 5: Nowhere in the Torah is the holiday we know as Pesach given that name. Rather, it is called the “Festival of Matzah.” How does matzah, the iconic unleavened bread of the Seder, bind Jews together across past, present, and future, while reminding us of our loyalty to God even in our darkest moments?

In this lecture, Rabbi Soloveichik elucidates the counterintuitive relationship between law and freedom in the Seder and highlights the resonance of this Jewish teaching in the modern world.

Farbrengen 11 Nissan, 5771/2011, honoring the 109th birthday of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Talk One The Beilis Trial: One hundred years ago, in April 1911, a 13-year-old Ukrainian boy Andrei Yushchinsky was murdered. In one of the most infamous blood libels in history, Mendel Beilis, a Jew from Kiev, was charged with the murder, supposedly motivated by the desire to use the boys blood for matzah. The Bailis trial brought forth a truth about the Jewish people, articulated long ago in the Midrash, and embodied in daily life by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, whose birthday is commemorated tonight. Talk Two The Meaning of Freedom: 150 years ago, Abraham Lincoln cast his Inaugural Address as a last-ditch effort to win back the South. A single thorny issue divided the nation, he declared: "One section of our country believes slavery is right and ought to be extended, while the other believes it is wrong and ought not to be extended. This is the only substantial dispute." Civil war broke out and it cost 600,000 lives. Slavery in the US was abolished. The slaves experienced their Passover. Many a Muslim nation battle today to acquire their freedom from tyranny. But freedom in Judaism is more than the absence of slavery and oppression. A reflection on two forms of liberty, one called chofesh, the othercharus. One is negative freedom; the otherpositive freedom." Talk ThreeThe Challenge of the Ego: The difference between the egotist and the humble human being is the difference between Chametz and Matzah, the inflated dough vs. the humble dough. It is the difference between the letter Hay and the letter Ches. Both types of people fall. One knows how get back into the circle of life; the other remains stuck in the abyss. This Passover, try an exercise. Talk Fourthe Crisis of Ignorance: Why is the rebellious child, the Rasha, counted as number two in status, right below the wise son, while the ignorant child is on the bottom of the list? Because ignorance is in many ways far worse than rebelliousness. How the four sons represent the four generations of Jewish immigrants to the free and open countries.
