Motherhood is often seen as life's greatest joy, but for Brooke, it marked the beginning of a nightmare. Just weeks after surviving a debilitated postpartum psychosis, she was struck down by complete muscular paralysis, all she could do was blink. Later, she was diagnosed with degenerative genetic disorders, facing a lifesaving surgery halfway around the world. Instead of succumbing to the darkness of her circumstances, Brooke found hope and light through God's lessons, learning to live life to the fullest despite the overwhelming obstacles in her path. Brooke's mission now is to teach others that healing is possible. Happiness is within anyone's grasp. Will you grab it?Through Fire and Grace is a powerful spiritual guide for anyone struggling with pain—whether from abuse, a faith transition, chronic illness, or a mood disorder. In this deeply moving episode of The Confident Mompreneur, host Kyrie welcomes Brooke, author of the forthcoming book Through Fire and Grace, to share her powerful story of resilience, hope, and transformation. Brooke opens up about her journey from chronic illness and postpartum psychosis to a miraculous recovery after enduring years of mental and physical deterioration, including a cervical fusion surgery in Barcelona and living in a neck brace for 4.5 years. Brooke and Kyrie discuss the profound impact of mental health on motherhood, as Brooke shares her experiences with postpartum anxiety, depression, and the often misunderstood condition of postpartum psychosis. Together, they explore the challenges of advocating for oneself in the healthcare system, especially as women, and the importance of seeking help despite the stigma surrounding mental health. Brooke's story is one of perseverance through immense adversity, from battling severe pregnancy complications and paralysis to overcoming trauma and misdiagnoses. Her journey to healing, which includes natural treatments for Lyme disease and a life-changing surgery during the pandemic, highlights the power of faith, community, and self-advocacy. Listeners will be inspired by Brooke's unwavering belief that her story wasn't over, even in the darkest of times. She emphasizes the importance of turning pain into purpose, a theme that resonates deeply with Kyrie and the mompreneur community. Brooke's book, Through Fire and Grace, releasing in October, is a testament to her journey of surviving against the odds and finding grace through it all. Tune in for an inspiring conversation filled with hope, resilience, and the strength to rise from despair. Don't miss this emotional and empowering episode of The Confident Mompreneur. New Zealand hardcore outfit Antagonist A.D released their latest album Through Fire All Things Are Renewed earlier this month, an album comprised of three EP's Through Fire, All Things and Are Renewed. The path to release has been paved with setbacks, after initial writing on the songs began in 2018 before the band flew to the US to record them the following year.Plans soon changed, with individual band members each suffering their own problems which, coupled with COVID crippling the world, resulted in the new material being repeatedly pushed back until the situation became more stable. With the world returning to some semblance of normality this year, Antagonist A.D finally put the finishing touches on the new material to complete the cycle, with vocalist Sam Crocker sitting down with HEAVY's newest member Coco Le Sex Bomb for a chat about the finished product and the path to completion.

Support Burning Ambulance on Patreon Get the Burning Ambulance email newsletter Chris Lightcap is is a guy I’ve been aware of since the start of his career in the late 90s, when he was playing with Whit Dickey’s trio on the album Transonic. He was also a member of guitarist Joe Morris’s quartet with Mat Maneri on viola and Jerome Deupree on drums at first, and Gerald Cleaver later on. That group made three records in the late 90s and early 2000s, and then reunited for another record four or five years ago. Lightcap has bounced around and done a ton of projects in the last 20 years or so, as you do, but he’s been leading the band Bigmouth, with Cheek and Malaby and Taborn and Cleaver, for about a decade now. They’ve made several records together that are a kind of avant-garde groove jazz – hard to describe, but a lot of fun to listen to. Superette, which just debuted last year with a self-titled album, is more of an instrumental rock outfit – they even cover a Link Wray tune called “Ace of Spades,” so we talk about that a little bit in this interview. We also talk about writing and recording, about free jazz and the kind of porousness of boundaries when you’re an open-minded listener and player, and a bunch of other things. So there’s a lot here to listen to and think about, and it’s all pretty interesting, at least I hope so. From the shadow of Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI I did a live radio show ahead of the annual Razor Edgefest concert. My home radio station Razor 94.7 (WZOR) every year puts on a smaller outdoor show in the parking lot of the Green Bay Distillery. Just so happens that it's directly across the street from the Green Bay Packers practice facility and kitty corner from Lambeau Field. The line-up this year was Black Stone Cherry, 10 Years, Gemini Syndrome and Through Fire. I talked to all the bands live on the air from the patio of the venue. It was a great day and so much fun catching up with new and old friends. This episode of the Rockcast is my conversations with all 4 bands, as they happened. Enjoy!
