Dave Ciampa, podcaster and co-host of Ciampa & Klein: The Airwolf Years with Greg Klein and Call Me Cordelia with his wife, Kristin, competes against Professor Randy Hunt. Can Jesse unseat Alisa Rosenthal from her eight-episode reign in the number one place on our leaderboard and prove once and for all that he has what it takes to defeat a fake professor? Can Randy unseat our Headmaster on the Faculty leaderboard? Find out on the season finale of Balderdash Academy's Head to Head with Coach Steve Corning with special guest co-host Headmaster Bob LeBlanc. https://www.balderdashacademy.com/episodes/h2h12 Dave Ciampa Dave is a Podcaster and co-hosts Ciampa & Klein: The Knight Rider Years (soon to be C&K: The Airwolf Years) with Greg Klein and Call Me Cordelia with his wife, Kristin. Professor Randy Hunt If it's theatre-related, Randy Hunt does it -- acting, directing, and even playwriting -- though he likely won't be stage managing ever again (hats off to the Stage Managers out there). He is particularly proud of the award-winning short plays he's written, and is very excited to unleash his first full-length play Inside Man to the world in 2021. Randy enjoys performing improv, especially since Southern Maine has so many talented improvisers to work with, and he is a proud member of the ComedySportz Maine improv team. Randy also hosts and cohosts various podcasts. We All Have a Story highlights the stories of the people around us for which we may not otherwise hear their stories (Headmaster Bob was the guest in Episode 2!), DeScripted, where he and his cohost Tyler Costigan take a closer look at the plays that have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama since it was first awarded in 1918. He is also the cohost of Balderdash Academy's Head to Head: Competitive Trivia with Coach Steve. Randy is thrilled to be an occasional visiting professor on Balderdash Academy when one of the other professors calls in sick and a full-time faculty member of the Teacher's Lounge podcast, and cohost of Head to Head: Competitive Trivia. In this episode, I chat with Paul Bussiere. Paul is well known in his local community for his creativity. Having built a full-sized aluminum R2-D2 replica, Paul's R2-D2 was built for visiting the children's floors at his local hospital, spreading cheer to the sick children there. As word got out about R2, countless invitations came in, from charity events, Star Wars movie premieres and becoming the star attracting at the Portland Sea Dogs annual Star Wars Night baseball game. While building R2, 3D printing became available to the masses as the patents expired on the technology. Paul bought a 3D printer kit in 2013 and put it together over a weekend. Over the years, his passion for learning and using 3D printers continued to grow. He started a YouTube Channel called "Where Nerdy Is Cool!" which features tutorials, reviews and fun projects about 3D printing. In 2019, Paul managed to land a job in the world of 3D printing, leaving behind 25 years of working in IT. Paul is now on the 3D printing team that utilizes the world's largest 3D printer. Paul continues to develop content on his YouTube Channel, find room for his 16 3D printers and is working on his Instrument Flight Rating.Note: This episode was recorded in March 2021 in the amidst  the COVID-19 ("Coronavirus") pandemic. For more information about Paul and all of his various projects:- Facebook: "Where Nerdy is Cool" https://www.facebook.com/WhereNerdyIsCool/- YouTube: "Where Nerdy is Cool!" https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUVNmNDvV_C-MwbD8CmtOcA- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wherenerdyiscool/- Paul's R2-D2 blog: http://paulsr2d2.blogspot.com/- News stories- https://www.wabi.tv/content/news/Nerdy-Do-Gooder-on-a-mission-to-save-mask-wearers-ears-during-pandemic-570378751.html- https://www.wabi.tv/content/news/Star-Wars-fans-invade-Bangor-Mall-Cinemas--566365621.html- https://bangordailynews.com/2015/12/15/news/bangor/orrington-star-wars-fan-replica-r2d2-have-a-local-mission/- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCm2U7dvev0- https://www.newscentermaine.com/article/entertainment/r2d2-makes-splash-at-star-wars-premiere-at-bangor-mall-cinemas/97-22225261- https://www.penbaypilot.com/article/may-fourth-be-you/51866Other things mentioned during this episode:- Portland Seadogs: https://www.milb.com/portland- WildCat! I Can, I Am, I Will
Ep5: How to Build Confidence Even When You Feel Hopeless

I Can, I Am, I Will

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 5, 2021 9:35

While people can help guide us, for the most part building confidence is a singular affair. It can feel confusing and you may think you aren’t making progress. Listen to this before you give up! Episode Transcript Intro Hey there and welcome to, I Can I Am I Will. The world’s number one podcast for confidence and self-empowerment. My name is Lyndsey. I am your confidence coach. And here, together with this podcast, we will discuss how you can stop limiting yourself to build your confidence and achieve great things. I want to give you actionable advice that you can use in your life to build your confidence. To feel more self-assured. And so, you can have self-compassion and do the wonderful things that you want to do, but you’re not doing now because you feel stuck. Let’s get you unstuck. Yesterday’s episode we talked about what digging up confidence means and why you need to dig up your confidence. So we’ll go into just a quick refresher. And then we’re going to talk about being rejected and how rejection can hurt our confidence and hinder us when we are trying to build it. First, I will ask you to please like, comment, share, leave reviews. All that good stuff please. I’d really appreciate it. You’re helping me out and I love this community. Thank you so much for helping me out. We All Have an Inherent Confidence OK let’s get into it. So when I say that you are digging up your confidence, I am referring to the fact that every single person has confidence within them but then they were just dig it up. And we need to dig it up because sometimes our confidence can be pushed down, or we can push it aside, or we can reject our confidence. And the reason why we might reject our confidence, our true selves, is because we’ve been rejected. Which I understand can sound kind of confusing. Just hear me out here. So in our current culture and world, being weird can be considered a bad thing. For me personally if someone said, “would you rather be normal or weird?” I mean weird all the way. What is normal anyway? But we’re not here to discuss that. This is not like a binary thing, like weird versus normal people. We are accepting of all people here. Because when you are confident you accept everyone and you love everyone. Because you see them as who they naturally are. They are a being deserving of confidence, just like you are. However, unfortunately, in our current world people who are considered weird or different may feel like they are being rejected from the group. For instance, Steve Jobs. When he was first starting out he worked at Hewlett-Packard. I'm pretty sure. And he did not wear deodorant and kind of smell bad. And he was kind of weird. People thought he was weird. So he got pushed to the night shift. Now could you imagine Steve Jobs when he was still around, people pushing him to the night shift? No they wanted him on stage. Everyone loved him. Because in our current society you are weird until you’re not. You’re weird until enough people believe in you that you’re not weird anymore. You Are Not Broken So what we need to do is to continually believe in ourselves. Even if other people think we’re weird, or treat us differently,

Intro: I believe that we, sometimes, don't understand grace or we forget the magnificence of God's grace. How would like to try to explain God's grace? David is faithful to a promise he made to his best friend, Jonathon. Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth. In this passage, we see some key aspects of God's grace and or own sinfulness. We All Have a Disability; Sin Mephibosheth fell and be came lame and so did we through Adam See Romans 3 Sin prevents us from walking with God We try in our own effort and fail We are in trouble We All Need a Rescuer: Christ David acted on Mephibosheth's behalf for the sake of Mephibosheth's father, Jonathan Jesus acted on our behalf for His Father's sake. David sought and called Mephibosheth by name Jesus called us by name We All Need Grace: Salvation David gave Mephibosheth his promise of salvation Protection from destruction Provision for all his physical needs Jesus promises salvation to repentant sinners who trust His as Lord and Savior He promises to provide for us spiritually, emotionally, and physically Jesus took on the punishment I/we deserve God's grace continues to work in our lives (sanctification) Closing: Let us come around the King's table and remember His grace and love.

Better Sex

Come As You AreMy guest today is the acclaimed author of the best selling, Come as You Are. Emily has been a sex educator since 1995, where she put her education to good use (psychology, cognitive science, and philosophy). Quickly, she realized that sex education, woman’s well-being, and violence prevention was far more fulfilling work for her personally. So, she made the switch from more neuro-centric work to that of the sex-education realm. And that switch has made all of the difference for the countless people who have benefited from Emily’s work in the field. She has a Ph.D. in Health Behavior with an emphasis in human sexuality, and the list of her qualifications could go on. And within just seconds of this interview, you will immediately understand just how smart and articulate Emily is. Listen in. The Motivation for Come As You Are As Emily relates, the motivation to write her best-selling book has a very prominent beginning. It was the first day of the semester and Emily was beginning her usual Anatomy class. A student raised her hand and asked if Emily would walk the students through the evolutionary origin of the hymen. Never having contemplated the question, she knew the semester was going to be a challenging but rewarding one. And during the final exam, when asking a question worth 2 points, she asked students to state one thing they had learned. The answer was far from what she expected. She found herself grading the final exams with tears in her eyes. Listen in to learn what most of her students’ answers centered on. We All Have the Same Parts Consider the scrotum. Yes, never before has someone provided an opening sentence like that, but stop for a moment and consider it. The central tenet to Come as You Are is that we all have the same parts, they are just organized differently. If you look at the center of the scrotum, there is a demarcating line that runs down the center; during gestation, all it took was a simple hormone and genetic difference that prevented the scrotum from becoming a labia. They are both stretchy and anatomical similar, but they become formed differently during birth. Through this type of thinking, Emily crafted the book to alleviate the stresses and insecurities of sex. With stress-free sex, with more comfort inside one’s skin and the anatomy that we have developed, we can become comfortable in the fact that we are completely normal. For more on this, listen along. Variance Should Be Celebrated Getting to know your own sexual parts, as well as your partner’s. There is no one-size-fits-all type of sexual practice. Some women, a minority actually, can experience orgasm through vaginal stimulation alone; the majority cannot. And all because of slight anatomical differences that can’t be controlled. So, the number one message communicated is to celebrate the inevitable variance between everyone! SES & SIS This is another extremely interesting section of the interview: Emily talks about the internal sexual excitation system and the sexual inhibition system in our brain that is constantly working behind the scenes. These two work in tandem to balance out sexual excitation with an inhibiting effect that prevents us from being sexually excited all of the time. For more on this dual-control process and how understanding it can help trauma victims, listen along. I am not doing it justice here! The Ramifications of Stress on Sexual Health Stress can make one’s body shut down completely when it comes to healthy sexual functioning. As the brain is highly reactive and conditioned through many facets of existence, a stressful situation can kickstart the sexual inhibition system (SIS) which will more often than not win out over any excitation. But again, variance shows up in this respect as well. Everyone is wired differently. Some people have an increased sex drive once stressed, and others don’t. It’s all a matter of preconditioning. But what do couples do when they are mismatched in this regard. Emily tackles the question with gusto. Tune in to learn more. Scheduled Sex Just because you schedule sex with a partner, doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen. But it is a very good idea if you don’t have a lot of sexual desire or have a partner who doesn’t, to schedule the opportunity for sex. Don’t have an expectation that it’s going to happen, just create the opportunity. Sometimes once in an environment that is conducive for sexual excitation, there can be adequate responsive desire. A no-stress desire! Emily discusses this further in the episode. Tips for Re-tuning One’s Sexual Response For the most part, all it takes is a simple change to retune your sexual response to become less stressful. A compromise, a locked door, a new bed that doesn’t squeak, sometimes all it takes is to change your environment to take as many worries off of your mind as possible. These are just simple fixes though. Sometimes sex can be very stressful, especially for trauma victims or those who have suffered from sexual shaming; but Emily has some information on that that she shares during the episode. Tips for Overcoming Harsh Self-Criticism Emily has three tips for the subject of overcoming body shame and insecurity. Two of them are, tune in to your body’s needs and undress in front of a mirror and point something out about your body that you like. Do this every day and eventually, you will get more comfortable with what you have. Instead of hiding it, celebrate it. Again, celebrate the diversity of everybody out there. For the other tip and much more information, tune in. Concluding Thoughts For a teaser of her new book Burnout, some fascinating neuroscientific information on context and sexual excitation, as well as another project she is working on, tune into the final minutes of the show. And follow her through her various social media channels, so you can be updated whenever her new book hits the stores. We All Have a Story . . . Don’t Let It Become Your Anchor The premise for this show is for me to share my story for the purpose of building a rapport with the audience & get them comfortable with “opening up” not only to me but to themselves; to stop hiding & get very real & honest about where they are at & why.   This show will focus on the BS we tell ourselves to stay where we are & not change even if it’s not good for us . . . b/c it often becomes comfortable!   BS lead to negative self-talk, limiting beliefs, comfort eating . . . all this can lead to a very unhealthy YOU.  “Where are thoughts go . . . our body will ultimately follow!”  So my question is “what do you want to see when you look in the mirror?  How do you want to feel when you look in the mirror?”  Well, lets start with the BS & thoughts & get to work re-programing that!
