Today we are going behind the scenes to talk about how to create engaging class lessons that keep students interested and make your counseling program run smoothly all year long. 1. How to Map Out Lessons for the Year Start by looking at your school calendar and noting upcoming dates, themes, and holidays. For example, October is Bullying Prevention Month, which is a great time to plan related lessons. Review your referral data and needs assessment responses to identify key areas of focus. Check what curriculum your school already uses, such as Second Step, and build from there. You can also base lessons around books to make topics more engaging. Planning tip: Repurpose content across multiple grade levels to save time and stay consistent. 2. How to Create Lessons Using a Simple Framework Use this five-step framework for 20–30 minute lessons: Icebreaker (5 minutes): Start with a fun, short activity to grab attention. Lesson (10 minutes): Teach the main concept or skill. Discussion (5 minutes): Have students talk in pairs, groups, or as a class. Reflect/Review: Leave time for students to write, draw, or journal about what they learned. Data Collection: Use quick self-assessments to measure understanding. Planning tip: Repurpose small group or individual activities by slightly modifying them for classroom use. 3. How to Get Creative Make lessons interactive by incorporating elements such as Scoot Games, Escape Rooms, Digital Game Shows, Breakout Groups, or PowerPoint and Google Slides presentations. These activities help reinforce learning and keep students engaged. 4. How to Engage Students with Movement Movement keeps students focused and helps with participation. Add movement to your icebreakers, activities, and discussions with ideas like: Sides of the room Simon Says Stand up and sit down Role play Charades Beach ball toss or jumbo discussion die By intentionally planning, getting creative, and incorporating movement, you can design classroom lessons that are fun, effective, and memorable. The Film School Janitors completed their first BUCKET LIST - five movies about ESCAPE ROOM(s) that were sometimes supernatural, sometimes sci-fi, sometimes an escape house, but always deadly! And this is the wrap-up review!

This is technically the fourth and fifth films on the BUCKET LIST of ESCAPE ROOM movies, but these are the only two that are direct sequels of each other: ESCAPE ROOM (2019) and ESCAPE ROOM: TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS (2021). Could they have been two separate podcasts? Yeah, probably. The Film School Janitors thought for sure it would be quicker to review them together, but it certainly didn't turn out that way. You will be sad, but also know more. Jon (AGAIN) - Superliminal. Incredibly straightforward yet shockingly mind bending puzzle game that is all about changing your perspective. Think Stanley Parable if it looked better and were more optimistic. Teyana Taylor can do it all: she's a singer, songwriter, actress, model, dancer, choreographer, and director and in this episode of ‘Reign' Teyana proves she is an incredible philosopher too, because WOW the amount of great advice she shares in this episode is off the charts!  Teyana first came to our attention in the MTV show, ‘Super Sweet 16.' Plot spoiler - in case you don't know already - after a five hiatus Teyana returned to music this year with her new album, ‘Escape Room'.  After securing roles in ‘A Thousand and One' and ‘Coming to America 2', Teyana is now getting deserved Oscar buzz for starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn in Paul Thomas Anderson's ‘One Battle After Another' which is out in cinemas from 26th September. Teyana plays revolutionary Perfidia, part of the French 75 revolutionary movement fighting against right wing politics. It's certainly a timely movie which raises questions around migrants, racism and white supremacy and it's truly one of the best movies of the year which will hopefully get us all talking.  Teyana joins me for a deep chat, which shows a whole other side of her, as she talks about everything from the power of patience to operating in survival mode.
