Christina Wodtke and Danielle Barnes join me to talk about their new book "Present Yourself" and their work with Women Talk Design, an organisation aimed at increasing diversity in public speaking. We went deep on public speaking, the importance of authenticity, storytelling, and finding your unique voice as a speaker. We also talked about the value of diverse perspectives in public speaking and the power of sharing personal stories to connect with audiences. Key takeaways: 1. It's important to embrace your unique voice Don't try to fit a stereotypical mould of a "good speaker" - authenticity resonates more with audiences. 2. Before you start speaking, make sure you know your "why" Everyone has their own motivation for public speaking, and anyone can fall in love with it if they're doing it for a reason they care about. 3. Share your unique perspective with the world Even if you feel that other people are already talking about your topic, or that it's all been said before, go and say it anyway. You're the only you. 4. Humans are hardwired to respond to stories You can make your presentations more engaging and memorable by incorporating stories, even in stuffy business settings. Your audience will thank you for it. 5. It doesn't matter if you're talking to a big crowd, as long as you're talking to the right crowd You don't need to be a big name to make a big impact. You just need to find the people who need to hear what you have to say. You can still make a difference. 6. Everyone has a bad talk but this is fine as long as you learn from the experience Every speaking opportunity is a learning experience. Some of them will go great, some of them will go terribly, but you can learn something from all of them. Check out "Present Yourself" "Present Yourself is for everyone who has ever fought for an equal shot at the spotlight. Christina Wodtke, Danielle Barnes, and a diverse group of accomplished speakers share stories that will inspire you to communicate with authority. Mary began her career as a socially awkward computer programmer who hid behind her desk because she was too self-conscious. Mary Cheyne with her Toastmaster Contest TrophiesBut today, as a World Champion of Public Speaking first runner-up, out of 25,000 contestants from 14 countries, she is proof that transformation is possible. How did she get there? By understanding that becoming GREAT at public speaking isn't just about the techniques of how to be a good speaker, rather it starts with discovering how to trust yourself first. Especially how to embrace the yin and yang of your feminine and masculine energy that allows you to show up powerfully in your communication and presentation, even in situations that would typically feel intimidating. Guided by this zen philosophy, Mary created processes to help women communicate in a way where they feel seen, heard, valued, and respected by those they are speaking with. Through her training and coaching, she has taught this curriculum to over 30,000 people in over 30 cities internationally. This has allowed her to powerfully serve her mission of developing heart-centered, confident women who lead with empathy, not ego. Her unique approach to presenting is what got Mary invited to speak on a TEDx stage. The video of her talk currently has over 473,000 views. Mary is also the best-selling author of the book “Present Yourself in Public Speaking – Tell Your Inner Critic to SHUT UP! And the Real You to SPEAK UP!”. Two fun facts about Mary are: She holds a karate black belt rank and plays the ukulele.

SERMON | 2 Timothy 2:8-15 | NOT ASHAMED - 2. "Present Yourself to God" by Rev. Joseph Sanford at Sellersburg United Methodist Church in Sellersburg, Indiana The gospel is simple, to Paul: Jesus is God's ruler over everything, raised from the dead, a descendant of David. For a young Jewish Christian, like Timothy, this simple gospel makes all of the sense in the world. Other opinions and convictions should not take precedent over this foundational proclamation. In a time of outside pressure and swirling chaos, Paul's words bring grounding to Timothy. We need that same grounding. When the world wants us to get caught up in politics... When people in the Church want us to get caught up wrangling over words... We need to be grounded in the gospel of truth. Then...we walk together in this life of faith in the gospel as a church family leading each other along the path of perfection/healing/salvation doing "the best we can" to present ourselves to God with honesty and confidence.
Today, Dr. Snyder is going to talk about the Secrets of Chinese Face reading. He will be sharing how you can present yourself into the world. Stay tuned as Dr. Snyder is also going to share the dates of his events and details about his course packages. Standout Quotes: Emotions are very important. But to really make the most of the emotions, you have to look at another aspect of the face. That's the right side versus the left side. The right side of a person's face is their public persona. The left side is what they're like when the lights are off, when nobody's looking when they're just around. When you're in a business context, you must deal with the person as they want you to perceive them. If you peel back that persona, you peel back that mask. They start to feel vulnerable and feel threatened in some way, or get defensive. So you need to play to that person's public persona. Key Takeaways: To make the most out of emotions you have to understand a very important aspect of the face. The right side of your face is the public persona or the professional image that you show. The left side is the intimate side that you don't want others to see. Whenever you are in a business context, you must play yourself to what others want to perceive you. You must present yourself in a way that serves the other person. If you don't they will be threatened by you. When we become adults and assume leadership positions in the workplace, we understand that poise and standing up straight can shift the way we behave and dictate how everyone else perceives us.You only get one first impression; what message do you want to send? Jade describes the picture you've already seen before: walking into a meeting or a group setting, you naturally flock to that person who's carrying him or herself confidently. Many instances happen where everyday workers are more postured than their supervisors and managers.Standing up straight changes how you feel, but it also changes how everyone perceives you. Kyle shares how you can allow your body to fool your mind in times when you feel scared, unprepared or insecure by focusing on one simple thing — your posture. Posture brings power to the leader by inducing confidence, changing cognition and improving behaviour. Team leaders run huddles like it's an inconvenience. Be careful when you start looking at team meetings as a mindless chore. I've met clients who roll in the room, check their watches, do a million other things and forget the value of why they need to huddle with their people. Non-verbal communication, body language and bringing the right energy when you show up will determine an engaging team and ensure they do what they need to do. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy acquainted the world with the potent hack of the "power pose." Her findings teach that the body can influence the mind. Making a superhero pose for a few minutes before addressing your team or audience will make you feel more confident and capable. Body language affects you as a leader and the people around you. You've probably come across the classic saying, "dress for the job you want, not for the job you have." This is a piece of basic advice that many people still overlook. Remember, what you wear makes the right impression and projects the image of confidence as a leader.Tune in to this episode of the Team:Engineered show — Present Yourself as a Leader with Jade Green & Kyle Probert. ▶️Key points covered in this episode: [00:00] Introduction [00:01:48] British hypnotist Paul McKenna's ideas on posture and confidence[00:01:59] The brain is this marvelous thing that a) we have control of and b) does its own thing. This statement was inspired by his friend and colleague Jennifer Hough. Sam shares his personal experience with allowing difficult moments in his life to shape him for the better. Michael J. Gelb is introduced. Michael is a pioneer in the fields of creative thinking, innovative leadership and executive coaching. He is also the author of 17 books including How to Think Like Leonardo Da Vinci, Discover Your Genius, Innovate Like Edison, and The Art of Connection. As a teen Michael read Man's Search for Meaning and wondered how people could find meaning in their lives during atrocities much like Victor Frankl did. *Segment 2:* Michael shares how he began his career as a public speaker. In high school he was voted “Class Arguer,” so he already had the gift of gab. In graduate school he was invited to speak at a corporate event by a gentleman who was a successful author. The experience had such a strong impact on him that Michael decided to continue public speaking professionally. Michael's first book was about the Alexander technique, which is a method for developing stage presence. He does executive coaching with CEOs using this method and helps them break habits like self-soothing gestures and defensive posture that would make people less confident in their message. You can learn more about this technique in his book “Body Learning: An Introduction to the Alexander Technique.” *Segment 3:* His book, “Mastering the Art of Public Speaking,” was originally written in 1988 under the title, “Present Yourself: Captivate Your Audience with Great Presentation Skills.” He felt that he had learned a tremendous amount and had discovered his voice and wanted to write more books to help others so he wrote, “Present Yourself.” His books also lead to more public speaking opportunities over the years but those events have since been cancelled due to the pandemic. Michael hasn't been on a plane in 14 months. Fortunately for him, before the pandemic he had already begun consulting, speaking, and teaching via Zoom, which made the transition quite easy for him. Very little had to be changed. *Segment 4:* Michael believes the simplest and most actionable tip he can provide is to be really clear about your message and frame your presentation around the impact you would like to have on that audience. Michael recommends that before a presentation or podcast, the speaker should write down three key elements of their presentation; what you want the audience to know, feel, and what you want them to do as a result of your presentation. A classic acronym to remember is KISS, keep it simple speaker. Michal shares one more book with us called, “Wine Drinking for Inspired Thinking.” It is about team building through wine tasting. Dressing For Success I’m so excited about today’s episode because, y’all, we are talking about clothes! Okay, I’m not a fashion expert and I’m certainly not a stylist. But I will tell you, I’ve never met a pair of pumps I didn’t like—and I know that the right outfit can instantly change the way I carry myself, how confident I feel, and my overall mood. It’s simple, really: I feel my best when I look my best. And I think you will, too. Now I’m the first to admit: I’ve made my share of fashion mistakes. A few years ago, I was at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas speaking at a huge conference wearing my most favorite black waxed jeans and a teal blouse. I was in one of my—shall we say—“fluffier” stages. And I may or may not have had to squeeze into those jeans, but I did happen to think I looked pretty cute. But then the photographs from my client came in. One look and all I could see were jeans that were creasing and pulling—in all the wrong places, I might add. Throw in the reflection of the bright stage lights, and it was glaringly obvious that my jeans were entirely too tight. I told my leader right then and there, “I can do better. I will do better.” And I haven’t stepped foot on a stage since without first asking myself one question: “Am I dressed for success today?” Can the Way I Dress Affect My Business? You may be wondering what any of this has to do with your business. In a word? Everything. The way you present yourself (and what you wear is a big part of that) affects your customers’ opinion of you. That opinion and first impression then influences whether they do business with you, which positively or negatively impacts your bottom line. And your bottom line, of course, determines the ultimate success or failure of your business. So dressing for success is about so much more than just clothes! How Can I Dress for Success? In this episode, I’ll talk about the three most common mistakes women make when it comes to clothes—and believe me, I’ve been there too. Yep, I’ve made every single one of them. But the good news is these mistakes have easy solutions. I’ll share those with you as well! By the way, I also have a little formula I follow when it comes to putting together a super cute outfit. And don’t worry. It doesn’t require a closet full of clothes and accessories or a wardrobe loaded with the latest trends. And you definitely don’t need to spend a lot of money to pull it off. Even better? It works every time! It’s almost as good as having a personal stylist. I can’t wait to tell you all about it! I know that, just like me, you’ll feel the best when you look your best. And when you’re at your best, I know one thing for sure: There’s no stopping you. My Guest This Week Is Toi Sweeney! Toi is an award-winning stylist, brand image specialist, and successful entrepreneur who is passionate about helping women—everyone from influencers to CEOs—present themselves favorably in business. And the stakes are pretty high. “You are a brand. Your clothing is your packaging,” says Toi. “That packaging is one of the most visible ways to stand out from the rest.” After 20 years in the fashion industry, Toi has styled her share of personalities and has made it her mission to do so as authentically and uniquely as possible. After all, she believes what we wear on the outside should be a reflection of who we are on the inside. But there is a right and a wrong way to achieve that. Did you know that, on average, you have less than nine seconds to convince your customers that you are smart and kind and worthy of their business? And did you know that the color you wear impacts someone else’s perception of you? Or that the wrong personal image could lead to lost opportunities? That means every single style choice, from the color of our earrings to the height of the heels of our shoes, is an opportunity to cultivate trust. That may seem like a lot of pressure to place on a pair of jeans and a navy blazer, but Toi insists that if you take the time to look the part—that is, if you dress for success with intention—you will be amazed at what you can (and will) achieve. In this podcast, Toi and I will talk about: The why behind your clothing choices How to figure out your personal style and dress accordingly The four biggest fashion mistakes and how to avoid them How to make a thrift-store find look like a million bucks When—and how much—to invest in trends Plus, for the first time ever, I’ll be answering your questions by phone. That’s right! I’ve got a brand new toll-free phone number that you can call and ask me your business questions. Profitcast: Monetize Your Podcast | Grow a Large and Loyal Audience
It's crazy when you talk about something (last week) and then explore what you just talked about. I had a good week of analyzing "where passion meets profit" and applying that to where I'm at with Profitcast and Arrow Squad. I hope you were able to take some time and get introspective about your podcast. I am curious to hear what you came up with! As we move into part 2 of Setting Your Podcast Apart from the Rest, I decided to jump into "How to Present Yourself!" There are SO many important factors here that are critical for your podcast's success! In fact, the successful podcasters have either mastered these elements or at least come close to mastering them. Keep in mind, they're ALWAYS working on their podcasts and continually getting better. But there does come a point where you need to master certain aspects. Here they are: vocal body language, effective delivery, winning listeners and influencing others, unwavering confidence, exceptional quality of your podcast, and a GREAT attitude about your podcast and for your podcast. There's a lot more, of course, but this is all I could fit in this week! :) I hope you get a lot out of this episode! I actually, interestingly enough, got a lot out of it just by presenting it to you on Profitcast. Good reminders and challenges! After you listen to the episode, think about where you're at and then please let me know your thoughts on this week's question: Which of these do YOU think you already excel at and which of these do you need to work on the most?
