The Galerie Conversation

Lei recalls a conversation she had with her son on his realization of  belonging to a "race."  He has questions and Lei answers in the best way she knows how.  She comforts hims, but she also has to explain a hard truth about prejudice and its sad, but real existence in our world.

Lei gets real in this episode as she recalls her time as a United States Army Soldier.  She was a mother separated from her child, and while she does not regret her choice to serve in the U.S. Army, she does want to share her story for those who may have experienced a similar period in their lives. She digs deep and gets a little emotional as old feelings surface. **Trigger Warning**  This episode references war, anxiety, depression, and military-related themes. 

In this 10th episode of season 2, Lei reminisces on a talent show she participated in as a young elementary student.  She wanted to be in "control," but soon discovered that she could achieve more listening to her mother rather than trying to be in control at ten years old. Many lessons were learned and many paths were realized that lead Lei to a life of pursuing her creative endeavors.  

Lei concludes, the Money series with a call to action.  She is challenging you to improve on the money promises that you make to yourself.   Share this episode with the one you love.  We all need options on how to improve our finances. Tax season is coming to an end. In this episode, Lei is giving you tips on how to start planning for your new influx of money. Plan to save and plan to spend.   Lei speaks briefly about her 9 to 5 as a tax and bank agent and hopes that her financial knowledge helps listeners begin taking steps toward financial security.

Lei and Hans continue their conversation. In part 2 they talk R. Kelly, conflict resolution, and how having kids can really change the relationship game. They touch on a classic Cosby episode and fill in a few gaps about relationships and having a top rated podcast.  Is there a difference when you have a black podcast? They laugh and get comfortable as the conversation moves. Listen and   give the episode 5 Stars.

Lei introduces her husband and they take a walk down memory lane.  They start to talk about when they first met, but someone gets the facts wrong. We get to see what it looks like to find love while serving in the Army. They also address some current events while picking topics from an article on psychologytoday.com, "13 Ways to Keep Love Alive." God, sex and love; can you put them in the same sentence?  Hans, Lei's husband explains how a family was an answered prayer and gives his opinion on the ideals of love and being in love. 

In this short bonus episode, Lei and her BFF are letting their hair down. Lei is trying to teach her bestie how to do her intro, but it does not go as planned.  Let the good times roll!

The conversation continues. Lei talks about challenges getting started as a writer and a podcaster. Her advice: "Keep Going," sounds like words to live by.  Her sister asks about a favorite quote and the conversation seems to make a transition to time spent on three different continents.

Lei is interviewed by her sister, JaVan.  We learn that Lei is into reading dystopian fiction and she used to be a librarian, among other things.  They laugh and have a good time as part one of this three-part interview reveals a bit of her sense of humor. Podcon2 was awesome, but it was not without its lessons.  Listen as Lei talks about some of her experience in Seattle, WA! She made connections, friends, and learned from the podcasting pros!

Nappily Ever After was great as a book but missed the point as a movie. While it was not a total fail, it lacked the depth that the book had to offer.  If you have never read the book, this Netflix film was probably a two thumbs up for you, but once you know something you can unknow it and that is where my problem rests with this film. There were so many opportunities for this book to outline current events in a fun and cute way, but instead, it just became an instant "b movie" classic. You, know not all bad, but not all that good either. But don't take my word for it. Go check out the book and the movie and come to your own conclusion. Happy listening!  

This bonus episode reflects back to the first episode where I discussed colorism.  I talk about anxiety and how I eventually overcame my struggle of social awkwardness to become a self-accepting confident person.

In episode 7 I discuss interracial dating.  I reveal a little about my dating past and how it has contributed to the way I dated later in life. Leading with love is our theme.

In this bonus episode, I apologize for using the word Hispanic interchangeably with the word Latino in a future episode.  I was using the language of the census bureau and found myself down the rabbit hole of self-identification.  It was not my intention to group identities together and realize that there is a difference between the two.  Please accept my apology as I continue to educate myself on when certain words should be used.  I want to be as respectful as I possibly can. In our current racial and ethnic climate as a country, it is definitely time to acknowledge how we refer to our brothers and sisters from all nations.  I want to recognize my mistakes.  I am open to criticism.  This is how I learn. I stand corrected and I will continue to use my voice in efforts to be fair and respectful.
