The time has come. The three of us are all big fans of the Alien franchise and director/writer Fede Alvarez has arrived with buddy and co-writer Rodo Sayagues to give their take. As the first film in the long running Alien series to be produced by 20th Century Studios following it's acquisition by Disney, Alien: Romulus successfully resuscitated the franchise, grossing over $350 million worldwide. But at what cost? Will the film's gorgeous production design, modern horror tropes, and nostalgic nods to the greatest hits of the franchise be enough? Or is what some identify as an over-reliance on fan service, imitation, incoherent plotting, and contrivances, ultimately a deal breaker? What did we think? You're about to find out. "Z-01 contains the genome responsible for the Xeno's ability to accelerate and slow down its metabolism at will. Its symbiotic capableness easily rewrites the host's DNA through its blood. This is a much needed and well overdue upgrade for humanity. We simply cannot wait for evolution anymore." It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 423! Join Patreon if you enjoy the show! Quiet Horror for this week's episode - with The Quiet Place 2 (2020) and Don't Breathe 2 (2022). In The Quiet Place 2, by John Krasinski, the remaining members of the Abbott family emerges from the silent shadows of their home and faces a world ravaged by sound-hunting creatures. Forced to rely on their wits and fragile communication, they embark on a perilous journey towards hope, uncovering secrets and new threats along the way. Rodo Sayagues' Don't Breath continues the story from the first film in a new context. Years after surviving a terrifying encounter with the "Blind Man," Norman Nordstrom, he leads a secluded life with a young orphan. When their hidden world is violated, a chain of violent events unfolds, forcing Norman to confront his past and fight for their survival. The film delves deeper into Norman's psyche, revealing motivations and vulnerabilities beneath his hardened exterior. Both films offer suspenseful sequels, each with its own distinct flavor. The Quiet Place Part II amplifies the family's desperate struggle in a hostile world, while Don't Breathe 2 revisits the chilling game of cat and mouse with unexpected developments. The choice depends on your preference for monster mayhem or a psychological showdown in the dark. Spoilers start around 5:20.
Por petición popular en los comentarios del año pasado, me he visto la secuela del terrorífico home invasion de Fede Álvarez. Y aunque me ha gustado, joder, que complicado es ponerse de parte de alguien en esta peli, todos son unos putos monstruos.
The cast of The Wicked Wild joins Caitlin to cover 2013's Evil Dead - a movie that showed us remakes can be awesome. We talk about the incredible practical effects, themes of addiction and family, and the over-arching aspects of the monstrous-feminine and the wicked-wilderness that make this the perfect movie for a Wicked Wild / Plug It Up crossover. We really love this one, and we have a great time laughing together. Tangents include: salt water taffy, cros/croots, monsters of our childhood, FMKs, favorite trees, rings, pants-shitting, snails, Golden Corral, extra limbs, appetizers, heroes, and subreddits. Be sure to check out The Wicked Wild, Loremasters of the Absurd, and Texas Chain Paw Massacre.
Director Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues and Sam Raimi producing, Don't Breath one and two are intense , edge of your seat suspense that will have you cheering for revenge during some very difficult moments for the lead man none other than Stephen Lang

The film stars Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, Richard DeManincor, Betsy Baker, and Theresa Tilly. The story focuses on five college students vacationing in an isolated cabin in a remote wooded area. After they find an audio tape that, when played, releases a legion of demons and spirits, four members of the group suffer from demonic possession, forcing the fifth member, Ash Williams (Campbell), to survive an onslaught of increasingly gory mayhem.Raimi, producer Robert G. Tapert, Campbell, and their friends produced the short film Within the Woods as a proof of concept to build the interest of potential investors, which secured US$90,000 to begin work on The Evil Dead. Principal photography took place on location in a remote cabin located in Morristown, Tennessee, in a difficult filming process that proved extremely uncomfortable for the cast and crew; the film's extensive prosthetic makeup effects and stop-motion animations were created by artist Tom Sullivan. The completed film attracted the interest of producer Irvin Shapiro, who helped screen the film at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival. Both early and later critical reception were universally positive; in the years since its release, the film has developed a reputation as one of the most significant cult films, cited among the greatest horror films of all time and one of the most successful independent films. It launched the careers of Raimi, Tapert, and Campbell, who have continued to collaborate on several films together, such as Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. The Evil Dead spawned a media franchise, beginning with two direct sequels written and directed by Raimi, Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992), a fourth film, Evil Dead (2013), which serves as a soft reboot and continuation, a follow-up television series, Ash vs Evil Dead, which aired from 2015 to 2018, and a fifth film, Evil Dead Rise (2023); the franchise also includes video games and comic books. We watched the wildly popular and controversial new film on Netflix, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and were shocked by the amount of home renovation involved in this iteration of the classic slasher franchise. (2:24) - Intro(7:45) - Synopsis(8:51) - Review(13:15) - Score(18:40) - Spoilers(1:11:10) - Which Killer Wins? @dgoebel00 on Instagram provided this amazing artwork. Follow him and check out his website. https://youtu.be/zcI6SFiK_yk Synopsis A group of fresh young social media influencers flood into a mostly abandoned Texas town to help revitalize the community and auction off the town. They are intent on building a new politically correct community in the heart of what was once the “deep south” with all the fixin's of culture that entails. They end up finding one of the buildings, which is an old orphanage, still inhabited by an old lady and her gigantic, mute son. The influencers have the old lady kicked out and she dies as a result. Everyone gets way more Leatherface than they bargained for. Review Texas Chainsaw Massacre's story was written by Fede Alvarez & Rodo Sayagues, who also wrote Don't Breathe, Don't Breathe 2, and the beloved 2013 remake of Evil Dead - so he knows his way around horrendous violence and hopeless terror. It's hard to say what's the right way to reboot a classic slasher. Some people will be so excited to get some great new content that they will overlook any flaw. Others will be so upset that their hallowed ground franchise was upset by a newcomer that they will hate it no matter what it does. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) and it's resulting franchise have been through some incredible ups and downs when compared to other slasher franchises. The depths of cheesy cash grabs are right alongside some of the most revered sequels and reboots ever made in slasher history. Watch The Original TCMWatch on AmazonClick here to buy or rent This entry comes close to the brutality and disgusting, sweaty feeling atmosphere that the original gave us. While there is plenty of nitpicking that can and will be done by slasher fans, I think that this is as admirable an entry into the genre as either the new Halloween (2018) or Halloween Kills movies. It's gross, hard to watch in parts, extremely gorey, and I didn't care about any of the characters - meaning it literally checks every single box needed to be a “passable slasher”. Do I love it to death? No. Would I point a slasher fan at it? Yep. It's brutal, hopeless, and totally depraved. To be honest though, I was hoping it would go even more violent and terrible than it did, and I don't know what that says about me. Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. With the financial success of the Evil Dead remake, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's Ghost House Pictures brought on that film's director, Fede Alvarez, to do another film. Along with screenwriter Rodo Sayagues, the two wrote an original story this time around entitled Don't Breathe, a new home invasion tale with a couple of new twists. Three twenty-somethings are robbers in the greater Detroit area. Alex's father owns a security company so he's able to access the customer's home alarms. When the three are told about a blind veteran who happened to recently win a huge settlement in the wrongful death of his daughter, Alex discovers the man is one of his father's customers. With alarms disabled, the three head over to rob what appears to be an easy score. Receiving fantastic reviews on its festival run, the film immediately struck gold at the box office and grossed more money its first two weeks during its theater run than any other feature. Dark Discussions heads to the theater and gives their take on Fede Alvarez's new flick. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM
