For hundreds of years witches have been the source of stories and fear. But the origins and creators of these fears are way scarier than what might have been actual practicing witches. A written record of a witch dates back almost 3000 years ago. In the mid 1400s some really ignorant and cowardly men wrote a book that created a hysteria of violence towards women who they accused of practicing witchcraft (whether they were or not) Have we become wiser and more evolved today? Well, probably not. But we have a ton of witch characters in TV, books, and movies that can entertain us and even make us question the wisdom of how we treat others. Classic characters like Elphaba and Glenda from Wizard of Oz have lasted generations. Cartoon favorites like Maleficent, Broomhilda, and Sabrina gave us opportunities to laugh at the characters as kids. Then, at the end of the 20th century, the characters in Harry Potter truly showed that witches could be powerful heroes. It really changed people's perspectives of witches in our culture. Now we see them pop up in all kinds of different ways, both good and bad. We have no doubt that witches' legendary status will last forever. Which witch do you watch? Who's your favorite? First person that emails me with the subject line, “I'll get you my little pretty” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. We're headed back to the early 2000's to squash some spiders and talking about Eight Legged Freaks.
Welcome to the Munsons at the Movies podcast. Each episode we delve into the filmography of a randomly selected actor. In this episode, we explore the life & career of David Arquette. Best known for his roles as Dewey in the Scream franchise, Chris in Eight Legged Freaks (2002), and Rob in Never Been Kissed (1999), Arquette is a member of a proud acting family that has a wide-ranging impact on Hollywood. Joined once again by friend of the show, Sam Phillips, we discuss Arquette's unique upbringing, his short-lived wrestling career and the impact it had on his career, his inability to shake the Dewey character from the Scream films, and marvel at one of our favorite documentaries in 103 episode (You Cannot Kill David Arquette). How does he rank on the Munson Meter? Listen to find out.
How ya been? We're back with a review of another 2024 horror entry, INFESTED. Aka 'Vermines' in it's native France. People are so repelled by spiders they've got their own sub-genre: 1990's Arachnophobia (see episode 219 of WGT for our review), 2002's Eight Legged Freaks, 1977's Kingdom of the Spiders (starring motherfucking William Shatner), 1958's Earth vs. the Spider (an MST3K classic), 2024's Madame Webb (truly horrifying), and many more. So how does this one stack up against the rest? Listen and find out. INFESTED is currently available to stream on Shudder. Incidentally, it's the debut feature of director Sebastien Vanicek, reportedly tapped to helm the next film in the Evil Dead franchise. "The Spider will eat you alive! Bullets...won't kill it! Flames...can't burn it! Nothing...can stop it! 50 tons of creeping black horror! It Must Eat You to Live!" It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 414! Join our Patreon if you enjoy the show! An excerpt from our Eight Legged Freaks episode teasing what's coming next for the QHE boys...
Logan and Dustin are wrapping up their Summer to Remember (in October) with the 2002 David Arquette vehicle, Eight Legged Freaks. A film that dares to ask what if Dewey from Scream had to fight giant spiders that act kinda like the gremlins from Gremlins? Dustin and Logan seem to try their hardest to not actually talk about the movie while also thinking way too hard about how to fix it. Have our hosts finally lost their minds? Why do they love creating themes and structures and then fight against them so hard? Hopefully nothing from the past comes back to haunt them...
Our look at 00s Horror rolls on, as we look at the Horror B Movie Comedy Eight Legged Freaks from 2002.
The cream-of-the-top Sheriff of Prosperity must solve her toughest case yet: the case of whether or not spiders have heads. Meanwhile, Chris McCormick returns from his 10 year self-imposed exile to re-open the local mine and locate an unrealistically large gold ore vein. All this and more in Eight Legged Freaks (2002), a movie mostly about spiders 50 times their original size, moving at -10 times their original speed.Music created by Jack Parsons.Follow us on Twitter & Instagram and check out our YouTube channel.
Why did I think this would be a good idea?! Films discussed include Arachnophobia and Eight Legged Freaks.
Cece and Alex take on the spiders of Eight Legged Freaks. Is the comedy enough to wet our beaks? Or is the tone so poor, it's other movies that we will seeks? Does the B-Movie acting work? What about those jumping spiders that twerk?

On today's minisode we threw the mic to the "Producer Seducer," Boston Mike, and offered him the ability to choose what movie to cover as a birthday present. This is what he chose. We don't make the rules but we do make plenty of jokes about David Arquette and anal probes. This is STC what do you honestly expect at this point in time? Remember: FIGHT BIG BOX OFFICE, SAVE TRASH CINEMA!
We're getting spooky this week, folks. Journey back to Curtis' Beyond Fest 2021 screening series as we take on: our first guest to the Fungeon, the beginnings of our Summer watchings, more RRR love, and finally, the Thai found-footage creepfest, THE MEDIUM. 00:00 - 23:00ish Intros: We're interrupted early on by our first ever guest to the Fungeon, the lovely and incomparable Mattie Schnieders to tell us that she's… been listening to another podcast. Lucas had his Tarot read, and we went through a national holiday that didn't feel very patriotic featuring a lot of extremely LA talk (shocker, we know). 23:00ish - 1:07:00ish What we watched this week (mixed with holdover 4th of July talk) Top Gun: Maverick (again again), Jurassic World: Dominion (Cody is the only one who has done this), The Black Phone, Insidious (who Cody subjected his horror-averse buddy Dennis to. Thank you and we're sorry, Dennis), Night of the Demon, Mimic, Final Destination 1&2, You're Next, Ghoul, Dark Waters, Evil Dead 2 (we watch this movie a lot, folks), Eight Legged Freaks, Elvis, Stranger Things S4, Jaws, Crawl, Return of the Living Dead, RRR (Lucas finally finished and can yell along with Curtis and Cody!), The Batman (Lucas for the NINTH time), Turning Red, and The Bear. 1:07:00ish - 2:01:00ish - THE MEDIUM - SHUDdown and discussion 2:01:00ish - Our next movie announcement!
Our spidey senses are tingling again this week as we deep dive into 2002's Eight Legged Freaks! It's an action-horror but make it… A comedy? What do you get if you get a colony of spiders and expose them to toxic waste? Gigantic monster spiders and the movie Eight Legged Freaks! Not only is this episode crawling with giant spiders who traumatise humans, it also includes Chris letting loose after a wonderful weekend at Fright Fest.***Please rate and review us on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. This week we are going deep into the webs of the cinematic world as we discuss two spider-ly spectacular movies. In the red corner we have 1990's Arachnophobia! James Atherton, an entomologist living in Venezuela catches two aggressive, newly-discovered species of spider. And by the way, it was announced in June that we're getting a remake, 32 years after the original! While in the blue corner we have 2002's Eight Legged Freaks, another movie that features our favourite spidey friends! Although this time it's one giant spider, terrorising humankind as it rightly should. Let's just say you'll be so glad you found this podcast on the web! ***Please rate and review us on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your pods.
