Meet Petosa Accordions Since 1922 this family owned business has been making world class accordions. I was able to sit down with Joe Petosa Jr. (3rd generation), Joey Petosa (4th generation) and Gabe Hall-Rodriguez at the Petosa Accordions showroom. We were surrounded by dozens of historic accordions the enviroment was amazing. Knowing next to nothing about accordions I ask a ton of questions about the history of the instrument, how the accordion works, and much more. The guys were patient with me and it really shows how passionate they are about making world class instruments and providing top shelf training and support to everyone who purchases a Petosa Accordion. This episode was a blast to record and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did. This episode was recorded onsite using new microphones. I was not able to fully dial in the audio levels so there is some audio distortion. Thanks for tuning into this episode of the Exploring Washington State Podcast! People  who live to be 100 (and beyond!) have four factors in common that…Seems to have nothing to do with their:·      Genetic makeup·      Family history·      Lifestyle choices·      Diet·      Environment·      Socioeconomic statusIn fact, according to clinical neuropsychologist Dr. Mario Martinez, your genes have only a 20 percent impact on your health and longevity. The rest is attributed to what you hold in your consciousness — how you view yourself and the experience of aging.1. Relationship to Time2. Self-Love3. Healthy Ageing4. MeaningDr Mario Martinez is a clinical neuropsychologist and proponent of cultural psychoneuroimmunology and is an expert in healthy longevity.  Dr. Mario E. Martinez primarily focusing on how biological age can be reversed without medication, looking at epigenetic markers such as environment and cultural beliefs affecting gene expression of health or illness. He specializes in how cultural and transcendental beliefs affect health and longevity. A world expert in this field of anti-aging, he teaches centenarian consciousness. He developed a theory of  biocognition to suggest how cognition and biology coemerge with their cultural history in a bioinformational field that seeks maximum contextual relevance. Academic science continues to divide mind and body as well as ignore the influence cultural contexts have on the process of health, illness and aging. For example, cultures that support growing older as a positive development associated with increased wisdom and abilities have higher numbers of centenarians living healthier lives than cultures that view aging as a process of inevitable deterioration. This concept of developmental biocognition, assumes that our cognition and our biology are dynamically interwoven with our cultural history and cannot be reduced to their components.Learn more at:https://www.biocognitiveculture.com/Support the show

A 14 day Jaguar hunt was not uncommon, but staying the duration was another story.  Dale found himself with plenty of time for training/working dogs and scouting the next hunt as most hunters would harvest their animal and quickly return to their normal lives.  The rugged and rough country was not something they found to be a pleasurable “walk in the park”.Dale recalls a conversation with fellow hunter/trapper Shorty Lyons about some Jaguar advice.Shorty seemed to be getting on plenty of good tracks, but the dogs just could not seem to close the deal.  In Dales normal and humble manner, his advice hit like a Mac truck…  “You better find yourself a new pack of dogs if you want to catch them.”  And Dales words rang true over the rest of Shorty's trip along with his next as he never caught a jaguar with his hounds. This leads into a great insight into the secret to big game hunting, grit! We also get to hear about the “Bonus Bounty Bear” responsible for over $30,000 in cattle loss! https://www.youtube.com/c/InterviewsStoriesandTales https://www.youtube.com/c/BrettVaughnCBVTV https://www.patreon.com/CBVTV?fbclid=IwAR3_ezq3oZf93eocipThrARo4zeuFGiMEzLbH0hxK--0K- IXn7rgXyEXax8 http://www.specialty-feeds.com/valu-pak.html?fbclid=IwAR1lhK2rm6ftnTzEtkP7AozLvW6Z2vyH5tpNf_TdgzIWctcCAmAh2Sx5k4o https://podcast.dusupply.com/

In 1886, a competition was announced in Paris. The winner would get the right to design and build the centerpiece for the World's Fair of 1889. The company of Gustave Eiffel proposed a project that won among 107 others. The first project of the architects from Eiffel's company was a tower with stonework pedestals, monumental arches between the columns, halls with glass walls on each level, the top shaped like a bulb, and plenty of ornaments. That project was too complicated so they changed it. The Eiffel Tower looks revolutionary where it stands even today, but back in the late 19th century, it was a real sensation, for which a lot of people criticized it. Famous writers called it a tragic street lamp, a half-built factory pipe, and a giant skeleton. They weren't too wrong. The tower really has something in common with a human skeleton: it was inspired by a thighbone! So, today, we're talking about absolutely amazing inventions inspired by Mother Nature. Adam Kolb shares the story of his family's Century farm in Manitowoc County. The farm was purchased by the first Kolb generation in 1900. The land was used to raise feeder pigs and run a dairy operation until 1997. The Kolb family then focused solely on the dairy and expanded their herd. In 2010, Adam exited the dairy industry and since has transitioned the farm into a cash crop business. He also runs his own custom fieldwork business. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week, our host Jackie Bird heads out to Branklyn Garden to join in with its 100th birthday celebrations. The garden was created by Dorothy and John Renton, a couple who converted what was then a hillside orchard into a colourful, tropical haven, just a short walk from Perth's city centre.  John's design genius and Dorothy's green-fingered talents turned this patch into what was described by the Regius, or Royal, Keeper of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh as the “finest two acres of private garden in the country”.  Fifty-four years ago, the National Trust for Scotland took over care of the garden, ensuring that not only would the Rentons' principles be maintained for future generations, but that adaptations would be made to keep the flowers as fresh as ever before. So, how does head gardener and property manager Jim Jermyn keep the garden fresh? What are the challenges of caring for a heritage garden? And what will the future hold for Branklyn?

Sandra Wedepohl Witte tells the story of her family's 180 acre Century farm in Sheboygan County. The farm was acquired when Harry and Lenora Habighorst sold their farm to their nephew Fred Wedepohl in 1912. The original farm was a dairy operation and also had a hatchery as a center part of the business. In the 1950s to 60s, the milking herd was expanded and the chicken coops were converted into hog bans. In 2000, the Wedepohls partnered with some neighboring farmers to build a milking operation called Highland Crossing. Of the original farm buildings, only the hatchery and granary buildings remain along with many memories.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
