Need help falling asleep? That's not usually our forte—at least we hope it isn't!—but this week the legendary sleep-podcaster Drew Ackerman, better known to his listeners as Dear Scooter, of the popular Sleep with Me podcast, has used not one but two of our past episodes as a script for his sleep-inducing show. We are reposting his somnolent take on Episode 441 The Oldest Cafe in Rome and Episode 440 Where Are All the Accordions? right here (and we'll be posting the original versions of those episodes on Wednesday and Friday of this week. If you have trouble with insomnia, be sure to check out Drew's podcast, where his bedtime stories help grown-ups fall asleep in the deep, dark night. The Halászbástya or Fisherman's Bastion is one of the most recognisable monuments in Budapest, and a major tourist attraction, not just for the beauty of the space itself, but for the views of the city it affords. As such, it's buzzing with people, and where there are tourists, there are local musicians, street vendors and so on. This recording captures multiple accordion players playing traditional tunes among the crowds of tourists. Francesco Mengascini, son of Arnaldo Mengascini who founded Beltuna Accordions, is an accordion manufacturer, innovator and the current owner of the company. On this episode we talk about how Beltuna Accordions came into existence, its philosophy of innovation, some of the improvements they have made to the traditional accordionists, their new Beltuna Matrix and its vast possibilities, their plans for the future and much more! It was fascinating to sit down and talk to someone who spends most of his time thinking about how to improve our instrument and solve problems related to it. As musicians we do the same with regards to the music we learn and bring on stages and finding this parallel with an accordion manufacturer was very interesting for me. Hear it for yourselves! To find out more about Beltuna Accordions visit their website at www.beltuna.com. To find out more about the new Beltuna Matrix, see this presentation on YouTube. Aaron and Bella are back for another edition of No Suck Saturday.
We revisit a conversation we first aired in April 2023 which was the first installment of our series on people’s professions. We’ll learn what it takes to do different kinds of jobs and how these professions change us. David Beer is Portland’s Squeezebox Surgeon. He has studied the inner workings of accordions in Italy and at A World of Accordions Museum in Wisconsin. He operates on all different kinds of free reed instruments. He shares with us how he got into this business and gives us an inside look of how accordions work and what it takes to get them singing again.
The long awaited & most demanded interview (just kidding we needed to fill the gap) with Lyndon "CHOCCY" Cabellon. We talked about the immigration from the Philippines, how he started Skateboarding and eventually found his passion of Surfing. Now he feels there is too much urgency to share contemporary music while it is […]

Meet Petosa Accordions Since 1922 this family owned business has been making world class accordions. I was able to sit down with Joe Petosa Jr. (3rd generation), Joey Petosa (4th generation) and Gabe Hall-Rodriguez at the Petosa Accordions showroom. We were surrounded by dozens of historic accordions the enviroment was amazing. Knowing next to nothing about accordions I ask a ton of questions about the history of the instrument, how the accordion works, and much more. The guys were patient with me and it really shows how passionate they are about making world class instruments and providing top shelf training and support to everyone who purchases a Petosa Accordion. This episode was a blast to record and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did. This episode was recorded onsite using new microphones. I was not able to fully dial in the audio levels so there is some audio distortion. Thanks for tuning into this episode of the Exploring Washington State Podcast! When you come back after several years to a city where you used to live, what do you notice? What has change? What has stayed the same? What have you forgotten about in your time away? Arriving in Rome after four years away, Katy notices something that—once ubiquitous on the streets of Rome—is now missing: accordionists. This sparks a conversation about what we notice, what we take for granted as being an eternal aspect of the city, and how a city can change before your very eyes. The famous song that Katy plays (and Tiffany recognizes but fails to recognize) is Ma il Cielo è Sempre Più Blù by Rino Gaetano. ------------------------------------- ADVERTISE WITH US: Reach expats, future expats, and travelers all over the world.
