Scripture For Today: 2 Samuel 7:18“Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?”What James Had to Say About Prayer pt 12We have been studying what the Apostle James had to say about prayer. We have been studying the verses from James 5:13-18: “Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any Merry? Let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth by the space of three years and six months! And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain and the earth brought forth her fruit.” Yesterday, we left off by pointing out that we are NOW the “Righteousness of God!” Amen! That is a very important concept you must come to accept! This is what will get your prayers answered! I remember a time, way back when, as I was just being introduced to the Word of Faith, where I could not pray my way out of wet paper bag. I would ask someone else to pray for me and “WHAM” I would have my prayer request answered! Then, there came a day when I did not have someone TO PRAY with me… I will not go into all the details, but it involved my daughter who was pregnant with my granddaughter at the time. Early on in the pregnancy. I had just graduated from a great, Faith based Bible school in Texas. I was on fire for God and BELIEVED I could move mountains by speaking to them! Amen! You get the picture? My daughter came home crying. She said there was something very wrong with the sonogram. She had it video taped. She said the doctor told her there was no blood supply to the brain (there was a big medical term for it, but that is what it boiled down to). He was going to make her an appointment with another doctor to “give her some options.” And we all know what kind of “options” they were talking about… I asked her what she wanted to do? Her response was, “I believe if YOU pray, God will heal my baby.” NOW I WAS the other person whom someone wanted to pray for them! And this was personal, too! I called the Bible school wanting to speak to the instructor who had taught on healing and prayer, etc. But the school staff had gone on vacation after the graduation! So I was going to go it on my own. Long story short, I started to share with my daughter some scriptures on healing. The one I started with was John 10:10 and we went through about 20 scriptures until I could see “faith” light up her eyes. She was starting to get it! We prayed and about 1 minute later, the phone rang. It was the doctor's office and they had scheduled her an appointment with this other doctor to “give her some options.” This was Friday afternoon about 3pm and the appointment was Monday at 8am. My son-in-law could not take off work (he had to give notice), so I went with my daughter to the appointment. Again, she asked them to video tape the sonogram. But the doctor kept scratching his head, referring to the chart, doing measurements and finally, he asked, “Why are you here? This is a perfectly normal little girl!” The two videos showed, what looked like, two completely different babies! There was definitely a difference that could be seen! Our testimony ever since has been that God healed the baby in less than 3 days – when we prayed in Faith! I'm not a prophet. I'm nobody special. I'm not a prayer warrior or some great intercessor or some great evangelist. But I am a Child of the Most High God, an Heir of God and a Joint Heir with

Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 19, verses 3-12We see a dichotomy once again in today's Gospel: The Pharisees wish to speak about divorce but Jesus wants to speak of marriage. One wants to speak of division, one of union. We live in a world that shows forth so much of the former, how can we be examples of the latter?

THE WEEK OF PENTECOST - WEDNESDAYLESSON: PHILIPPIANS 3:12-16Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Philippians 3:12We should learn to understand that a man who has received the Holy Spirit does not necessarily become a perfect Christian immediately, experiencing no further trouble from the Law or from sin. Nor is the Spirit's presence always immediately evident from a spotless purity. We do not teach that the Holy Spirit has already fully performed His office and completed it but simply that He has begun to carry out His office, that His work is beginning to run its course and continually developing without ceasing. You will never find a single person who is without sin and sorrow, full of righteousness and joy, and so perfect that he is completely self-sufficient, serving everyone in perfect freedom. Scripture clearly tells us what the work and office of the Holy Spirit is, to save men from sin and its terrors, but that office is still not fully accomplished. Every Christian will at times feel sin in his heart and experience the terrors of death. He will be subject to all the assaults which assail other sinners.Unbelievers are held so fast in their sins that they no longer feel them. Believers, however, do feel them, but they have a helper, the Holy Spirit, who comforts them and strengthens them. Had the Spirit completed His office, this would not be the case.SL 11:1025 (19-20)PRAYER: We beseech You, O Lord, to grant us the comforting presence and aid of Your Holy Spirit, that, whatever by His teaching we know to be our duty, we may by His grace and mercy be able to perform, through Christ our Lord. Amen.Editor's note: No American Edition (AE) equivalent for today's sermon excerpt exists at the time of this publication. THE WEEK OF JUBILATE - FRIDAYLESSON: EPHESIANS 1:3-11There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12We can never form a correct estimate of persecutions, trials, and other troubles, or understand them correctly, unless Christ Himself awakens and enlightens us, and His resurrection becomes a power in us. All our own pretentious doings must be shattered and accounted as nothing. In the Gospel for this week (John 16:16-23), we are given a powerful reminder that man with all his own powers is nothing. Here we have a condemnation and refutation of all that was formerly proclaimed about good works and all that may be claimed for good works in a similar way in the future. This much is quite clear: where Christ is absent, there is nothing significant for any Christian.Ask St. Peter how he was minded when Christ was not with him and what kind of good works he performed? He denied Christ and confirmed his denial with cursing and swearing (Matthew 26:74). Those are the kind of good works we perform when Christ is not with us.All this should help us to build on Christ alone and to rely on no other creature in heaven or on earth. In His name alone and in no other, there is preservation and salvation for us (Acts 4:12; 10:43).SL 11:836 (18-19)PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, enlighten us in such a way by Your Holy Spirit that we learn to trust with our whole hearts in the salvation that You alone have provided for us as the beginning and the ending of our Christian faith. Amen.Editor's note: No American Edition (AE) equivalent for today's sermon excerpt exists at the time of this publication. THE WEEK OF EASTER - WEDNESDAYLESSON: ISAIAH 55:6-9Now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. 1 Corinthians 13:12We should always be very careful not only to hear the truth that we are Christ's brethren with our bodily ears. We should feel and experience this truth in our very hearts. Then we shall never become over-weening and conceited, but this fact will fill our hearts with wonder.True, pious, and godly Christians are always deeply conscious of their very serious limitations. In humility and modesty, they will begin to wonder how such miserable sinners as they are, drowned in sins, could ever become worthy enough to have God's Son as their brother. How does it come to pass that such a wretched creature as I am enjoys such a privilege? At the same time, such a Christian is amazed at this fact and meditates upon it. It certainly requires great effort to believe it. Indeed, if one actually experienced this fact for what it really is and involves, one would perforce have to die in that very instant. For man who is flesh and blood cannot comprehend this fact.As long as we live in this life, our heart is far too restricted to be able to grasp such a fact. After death, when our heart is enlarged, we shall be able to comprehend fully what we have heard through the Word.SL 11:606 (8) PRAYER: Your ways are not our ways, and Your thoughts are not our thoughts, heavenly Father. Enlighten us by Your Holy Spirit in such a way that we believe Your Word, even where we may not fully understand it, for Christ our Savior's sake. Amen. Editor's note: No American Edition (AE) equivalent for today's sermon excerpt exists at the time of this publication. Hebrews 6:12We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. It is important to start right, but it is imperative to end well.  An example of King Solomon I King 3:10-13“Since you asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have you asked for the death of your enemies, but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never be anyone like you, nor will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for both riches and honor so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.”I King 9:11“Since you have not kept my covenant and have disobeyed my laws, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your servants.”  Solomon's Problem: Forgetting God's promise, power and plan  I Corinthians 9:24-27 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. Faith is not reactive but proactive. 3. Faith does not tolerate loose-end.  How can we finish strong? 1. Keep remembering the promise of God "your promise preserves my life" Psalm 119:50  2. Keep believing in the power of God James 1:6-7 “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. [1]2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.3I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.4My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power,5so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.6We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.7No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.8None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.9However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" [2] --10but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.11For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.12We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. [3]14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.15The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment:16"For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" 2 Thessalonians 3 6-15 And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from all believers who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they received from us. For you know that you ought to imitate us. We were not idle when we were with you. We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so we would not be a burden to any of you. We certainly had the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to give you an example to follow. Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business. 12We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living. As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good. Take note of those who refuse to obey what we say in this letter. Stay away from them so they will be ashamed. Don’t think of them as enemies, but warn them as you would a brother or sister. Christians or children of God should not be in a habit of constantly begging for money, but we ought to work.  When the prophecy of prosperity is sent out to the church we are to act on it, move and obey the Lord's instructions. #lazy #nofoodforlazyman #diligent #hardworking  www.facebook.com/anne.oguama www.instagram.com/anne.oguama --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/anne9431/message

Series: Faithfulness: A Deeper LookThe Power Source: HumilityPhilippians 2:1-18How does a Christ Follower become humble? 1.   Humility is a Problematic Problem         Therefore, if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, … Philippians 2:1-3Letting go of your vanity.Letting go of your stubbornness. Letting go of the pride of exclusiveness.…not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:4Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.Galatians 1:10Letting go of being a people pleaser!2.      Jesus Christ is The Perfect Example.Philippians 2:5-11In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:Who, being in very nature God,    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;rather, he made himself nothing    by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,    being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,    he humbled himself    by becoming obedient to death—        even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place    and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,    in heaven and on earth and under the earth, to the glory of God the Father.Philippians 2:5-113.   The Practical Application of Humility. Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, Philippians 2:12We are to … work with respect and reverence.  … for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. Philippians 2:13Do everything without complaining or arguing. … for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.  Philippians 2:14   … so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of Godwithout fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. Philippians 2:15-16It will have a positive impact on the world for ChristIt will result in a Personal Joy But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.  So, you too should be glad and rejoice with me.  Philippians 2:17-18

“Lip or Life Service?” Matthew 21:28-32This Week’s Core Practice: Single-mindedness I focus on God and His priorities for my life.Matthew 6: 24, 31-33“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.Scripture: Matthew 21:28-3128 “ But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘ Son, go, work today in my vineyard. ’ 29 He answered and said, ‘ I will not, ’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘ I go, sir, ’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father? ” They said to Him, “ The first. ”Jesus said to them, “ Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.The Message of this Passage:From the Ligonier”s Ministry: “Jesus in today’s passage uses His discussion of John the Baptist’s authority with the religious leaders in Jerusalem as a springboard to explain why judgment is coming upon those covenant-breaking Israelites who believe themselves falsely to be God’s true people. The parable of the two sons is the first of three consecutive parables in which our Lord condemns faithless Israelites. The point of today’s parable is straightforward, namely, that it is better to obey without promising than it is to promise and not obey. As Scripture tells us elsewhere, words mean nothing if there are no deeds to back them up. It is easy to profess the truth, but our Father in heaven also demands that we do the truth as well. Those who initially refuse to submit to God but then turn to Him are His children, not those who honor Him with their lips and yet have hearts that never serve Him.Of course, the priests and elders believe they are represented by the obedient son. Jesus, however, has a different estimation. The tax collectors and prostitutes, those whom the leaders see as farthest from the kingdom, are those who in hearing the preaching of John and Jesus have recognized their poverty of Spirit and repented. John Calvin comments that although they are great sinners, “they are greatly preferable to the scribes and Pharisees in this respect, that they do not continue to the end in their vices, but, on the contrary, submit gently and obediently to the yoke which they had fiercely rejected.” It is the son who does not follow through on his pledge that represents the Jerusalem authorities; they have not seen their desperate need of forgiveness and consequently, have not turned from their sin (v. 32; see 3:7–10).Being able to discern the faithful son is actually an act of self-indictment on the part of the leaders. If they can rightly choose as faithful the son who left his disobedience, surely they must also be able to discern in themselves their own lack of righteousness and need of the Savior. Yet they never acknowledge their guilt. Let us never be so confident in our own goodness that we fail to recognize our need of repentance and forgiveness. For Personal Reflection and Discussion:What is the truth contained in the main point of this parable? What motivated the parableWhat is Jesus’ personal application of the parable? (v. 31)What does this parable teach us about service? In what ways are these two sons similar? How do those similarities apply to Jesus’ listeners and those of us that read this parable today? In what ways are the two sons different? Who do they represent? What do you think is the whole point of this parable? What point is Jesus making in verses 31–32? Why does He sound so harsh here? What does it mean that Jesus says the harlots and tax gatherers will get into the kingdom of God before the chief priests and elders of Israel? This parable is different from some of the others, in that there is no burning of one side, like the wheat and tares, and there is no casting of one side into the place of weeping and gnashing of teeth. Is there any significance to this fact? If so, what is it?Where would you place yourself on the spectrum of the older to younger brother? SCRIPTURE: Malachi 3:6-12We want to begin by exploring what it means to read a text like Malachi responsibly: what are we here to find, how can it best challenge us, and how can we be open to it in the best ways? At the center of this book is a promise from God, who says, “return to me, and I will return to you.” What does it mean to return to God? In Malachi 3:6-12, God talks about this through the ancient practice of “tithing,” or giving the firstfruits of your labor back to the work of God’s Kingdom. The Jewish people had strayed from this practice, giving God the “leftovers” of their lives, if they gave him anything at all. God reminds them that this isn’t just a matter of disobedience, but a failure of memory: in their long history, God had proven his faithfulness and generosity to them time and time again...so why had they stopped acting like this was true? Malachi teaches that if we remember who God is, our worship becomes a matter of reflecting his character back to him. As we continue to explore the question “Why Church?” this year, we can ask ourselves: how can remembrance and generosity lead us into greater sincerity in our relationship with God? DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:Read Malachi 3:6-12 out loud together. What can be difficult about hearing or trusting passages like this? What are some ways we might be tempted to misread a text like this? Why do you think God begins by saying, “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed”? What point is God making? What do you make of God’s declaration that “withholding the tithe” is equal to “robbing” him? What does this suggest about ownership? What does it suggest about what tithing--whatever the resource--is really about? Do you think what God says here is true--that if we are faithful to him, he will be faithful to us? What might this mean in your own context? Where are you holding out...and what might God’s faithfulness look like for you? What does verse 12 suggest about the relationship between God’s faithfulness to Israel and their neighbors? How does this affect the way you think about the importance of Israel’s faithfulness to God?

Be A Bringer Matthew 3:16, 17 - Jesus’s Baptism In The Jordan River By John 16“And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” “Then John testified, “I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him.” John 1:32 NLT Romans 8:15-17 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.

1 John 3:11-15 11For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. 13Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. 14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words 1Cor. 2
