The Seven Attributes of Jesus (Christology 1)Big Idea: Jesus Christ is not just a chapter in the story of God; He is the Author, the Hero, and the Ending. When we see Jesus for who He truly is, every other priority in our lives finds its proper place.Today we begin a nine-week journey through the Book of Hebrews, a letter written to magnify the greatness of Jesus Christ. Hebrews isn't primarily about religious rules, moral improvement, or spiritual techniques. It's about Jesus—who He is and what He has done. Everything else flows from that foundation. The original audience was likely Jewish Christians living under Roman rule, facing intense persecution. As pressure mounted, many were tempted to abandon their faith in Jesus and return to the familiarity and safety of traditional Judaism. Hebrews speaks directly into that tension with one clear message: Jesus is greater than anyone or anything that came before Him. To walk away from Him would be to walk away from the fulfillment of all God's promises. The author of Hebrews remains anonymous, one of the great mysteries of the New Testament. While Paul may have influenced it, the writing style is far more polished and rhetorically sophisticated than Paul's letters. Hebrews chapter 1 proves this immediately. Verses 1–4 form a single, majestic sentence in the original Greek—an exordium, designed to grab attention with both beauty and weight.Hebrews 1:1–4 (NLT) sets the stage:“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son…”In the Old Testament, God spoke in fragments—a dream here, a burning bush there, a prophet's warning along the way. But in Jesus, God didn't just send messages; He sent the Message. This is Christology—the study of the person and work of Jesus Christ—and Hebrews wastes no time getting to the point. In verses 2–3, the author unleashes a rapid-fire description of Jesus using seven distinct attributes. In Scripture, the number seven represents completeness and perfection. Together, these form a full portrait of the Son.Jesus is the Heir—the goal of history. God has promised everything to Him as an inheritance. History is not random; it is moving toward the coronation of King Jesus. He is the “why” behind all creation.Jesus is the Creator—the architect of reality. Through Him, God made the universe. Jesus is not a created being; He is the source of all things. Nothing exists apart from His will.Jesus is the Radiance—the shining glory of God. He doesn't merely reflect God's glory like the moon reflects sunlight; He radiates it. The Son is the visible manifestation of the invisible God—“Light from Light.”Jesus is the Expression—the exact imprint of God's nature. The Greek word charaktēr refers to a stamp or seal. Jesus doesn't resemble God; He perfectly represents Him. To see Jesus is to see God.Jesus is the Sustainer—the glue of the cosmos. He holds everything together by the power of His word. The universe doesn't persist on autopilot; it endures because Jesus commands it to.Jesus is the Savior—the cleanser of sin. When He purified us from our sins, the work was finished. Unlike Old Testament priests who never sat down, Jesus completed the work once for all. Finally, Jesus is the Ruler—the seated King. He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven, a position of total authority. The victory is won.Hebrews 1:4 reminds us that Jesus is far greater than angels, traditions, or anything else we might be tempted to trust. For believers facing hardship, this truth re-centers everything. The message of Hebrews is clear:...

Historically Thinking: Conversations about historical knowledge and how we achieve it
He was at various times in his life known as Gaius Octavius Thurinus; Gaius Julius Caesar; and Caesar Augustus. He called himself Princeps, the first man in Rome; the Roman Senate would eventually call him pater patriae, the father of his country. Heir to his great-uncle Julius Caesar, this 19 year old was dropped into the tumult of Roman political violence, and emerged from it the sole and undisputed victor after decades of civil war. He murdered hundreds, and then became the founder of a new Roman system that brought peace and prosperity to Rome's citizens and inhabitants. He was tyrannical and giving, cruel and clever, manipulative and noble. And he has claim to be one of the most successful politicians to ever lead a nation or a kingdom, who created a system which lasted for hundreds of years after his death. With me to discuss Caesar Augustus is Adrian Goldsworthy, author of Augustus: First Emperor of Rome, now being reissued in its second edition. The annoyingly prolific author of a shelf of books, both of ancient history and historical fiction, Adrian Goldsworthy has been described as the OG scholar of the Roman Army and the Mr Darcy of Ancient History. Since his next book comes out in May, this promises to be the first of at least two conversations with him in 2026–and this is his sixth appearance on the podcast.ChaptersIntroduction: Caesar Augustus (0:00)The Standard Received View: Syme's Roman Revolution (1:33)The Importance of Names: Octavian vs Caesar (13:27)Why Not Call Him Emperor? Colossians 1:12 reminds us that our standing before God is not earned but given. In this sermon, we explore how the Father has qualified believers to share in the inheritance of the saints—not through effort, morality, or spiritual achievement, but through union with Christ. This message offers assurance to weary believers, humbles proud hearts, and anchors our hope in the finished work of Jesus, who alone makes us fit for the kingdom of light.
AS Roma has stunned the market by securing 18-year-old French sensation Robinio Vaz in a bold €25 million move from Marseille. In this episode, we dive deep into why Gian Piero Gasperini moved so decisively for this physical powerhouse and what his "contractual stand-off" in France reveals about his elite mentality. We analyze his staggering 0.97 goals-per-90-minutes ratio and how his blend of explosive pace and aerial dominance fits into the Giallorossi's long-term vision. From his "Mantes-la-Jolie" roots to the Stadio Olimpico, we explore if Vaz is the missing piece to return Roma to the pinnacle of Serie A and European football. On a quiet February morning in 1960, one of America's most powerful brewing dynasties collided with every parent's worst nightmare. Adolph Coors III—heir to a beer empire, devoted father, and fixture of Colorado's elite—vanished on his way to work, leaving behind an abandoned car, a single shoe, and a trail of unanswered questions. What followed was a tense, high-stakes drama that gripped the nation: cryptic demands, frantic negotiations, and a family forced to make impossible decisions under the glare of public attention. This is the story of a disappearance that exposed the vulnerabilities of immense wealth—and set off a chain of events no one could control.SOURCES: 1) A Look Back on the Coors Kidnapping2) Coors Kidnapping Ransom Note3) On This Day in History: Coors brewery heir kidnapped4) Adolph Coors III5) Joseph Corbett v. Rebecca Armitage joins Carol Fitzgerald to discuss her debut novel, THE HEIR APPARENT, which was a Reese's Book Club pick and a Bookreporter Bets On selection. Rebecca describes the book as a modern-day fairy tale. Lexi, who is living in Tasmania and training to be a doctor, is summoned home after a skiing accident kills her father and critically injures her brother. Her grandmother is the Queen of England; she is the heir apparent and must return to London. Carol loved the cinematic opening scene with the helicopter landing to whisk Lexi away from her life in Australia. Rebecca drew upon her experience as a journalist covering the royal family to create an authentic portrayal of their lives. The story centers on Lexi's decision between duty to the crown and personal freedom, complicated by a secret that could prevent her from taking the throne. The relationships in the book highlight the sacrifices required by royal life and explore whether or not genuine connections can survive within the constraints of the monarchy. Rebecca discusses the Australian setting, particularly Tasmania, and its significance in the book. She shares that she moved to Tasmania during the pandemic and realized that it was the perfect place for Lexi's escape. There is a contrast between controlled palace life and Tasmania's wild, natural environment. Paul compacts the experience of salvation into one terse declaration. He tells the Galatian Christians what we were (slaves), what we became (sons), what we are now (heirs because sons), and how we entered into this new state: through Christ Jesus. How, then, do we define ourselves? If we are sons, then we should be joyful and obedient because of what Christ has secured for us. If we are still slaves, we need to come to Christ that we might be set free.
By Caleb Kinsella - Our world discards the unwanted. Life is so easily thrown away. But that is not what God has planned- true restoration awaits Christ's return. Drawing from the inspiring true story of Possum Trot, we explore God's eternal plan of adoption. How we, once spiritual orphans shattered by sin, are freely
In this episode of Comm Talk, Dallas and Celeste kick off 2026 by revisiting the legendary 80s anime Ronin Warriors (known in Japan as Samurai Troopers). The duo discusses the show's history, analyzes the animation style from the late 80s versus modern standards, and gives their honest review of the brand-new 2026 sequel series. Basic topics covered: Ronin Warriors vs. Samurai Troopers: A look at the history of the show, the differences between the Japanese and American versions, and the mysterious "Hajime Yatate" collective that created it The "Cinderella Effect" in Animation: Celeste explains how upscaling old animation to high definition can actually cause a loss of fine detail—like the "paint bucket" shoe error—and the need for grace when viewing older media on modern tech. 2026 Sequel Review: A breakdown of the new series' plot, the shift in art style to "pretty boys," and the major plot twist regarding the main character's heritage. The Missing Character: Celeste shares her strong feelings about the absence of the white tiger, White Blaze, in the new series and why he was the heart of the original show. Question: Did you like the new Samurai Troopers? Do you like the Original? Check out our devotional on Samurai Troopers: https://youtu.be/T-nsoJkSxjM

Same rigor as a lit class, more jokes, less homework. In the final episode of our Heir of Fire season, we ask the question the whole book has been quietly building toward: do we actually believe Celaena's arc as she un-masks into Aelin Galathynius? Chapters summary: Celaena recovers from the battle for Mistward and leaves Wendlyn behind, journeying to Doranelle to face Queen Maeve. When Maeve punishes Rowan to force Celaena to reveal the location of the third Wyrdkey, Celaena answers with wildfire—and outmaneuvers the immortal queen, winning Rowan's freedom from his blood oath. But Rowan's loyalty is already decided: before Maeve and the Cadre, he swears a new blood oath—not to Celaena, but to Aelin Galathynius. In Rifthold, news of Aelin's wildfire and fight against Norrak throws the kingdom into chaos. Plans for escape unravel when the King of Adarlan intercepts them. Aedion is tricked into giving up his identity, and he is restrained while the King kills the true traitor in their midst. Dorian's magic is revealed in his attempt to save Chaol, who flees to Anielle while his prince is shackled. High in the Ferian Gap, Manon and the Thirteen win the war games, but at what cost? Today we'll be talking about some updates in the long running Red Bull heir scandal, a Belgian tourist complaining of withheld care following a motorbike crash and unpaid bills, and a little later a peculiar case of an allegedly haunted hotel room.
In this episode, we kick off a 6-week series exploring the life of David, one of the most significant figures in the Bible. But to understand the king David became, we first have to look at the man he replaced: Saul.Saul looked like a king on the outside—tall, handsome, and commanding—but his heart drifted from God on the inside. Through the story of Israel's first king, we discover that it's possible to "look the part" while lacking spiritual power. We'll contrast Saul's heart with David's and identify three dangerous spiritual drift patterns: fear, expedience, and pride.Key Discussion Points1. From Fear to TrustWhen God doesn't show up on our timeline, fear often takes the driver's seat. Saul felt "compelled" to disobey God's instructions because he was afraid of his dwindling army and a looming enemy. The Lesson: Every sin begins as a failure to trust. Faith is the ability to wait on God when fear tells you to rush.Scripture: 1 Samuel 13:12-142. From Expedience to ObedienceExpedience is taking the convenient shortcut rather than doing what is right. Saul tried to mask his partial obedience as a "sacrifice" to God, but Samuel reminded him that "obedience is better than sacrifice."The Lesson: Integrity means doing what is right even when it's inconvenient. You are only as accountable as you make yourself.Scripture: 1 Samuel 15:223. From Reputation to RepentanceEven when confronted with his sin, Saul's primary concern was his public image. He asked Samuel to honor him before the elders rather than humbling himself before God.The Lesson: True repentance doesn't make excuses or worry about saving face; it focuses solely on returning to God.Scripture: 1 Samuel 15:30The Man of the Moment: David and the Grace of GodGod rejected Saul's man-made efforts and chose David—a man after His own heart. While Saul represented human effort, David's story points us toward grace. Centries later, Jesus (the "Source and Heir of David") offers us the same Spirit that empowered David. When we fail, Jesus provides the transformation we cannot achieve on our own.Resources & Next StepsReflect: Are you currently making decisions based on fear or trust?Go Deeper: Find more Bible studies, videos, and leadership resources at pursueGOD.org.Discuss: Share this episode with a friend or your small group to talk about the "drift patterns" in your own life.

In this episode, we tackle Heir of Fire Chapters 50–56, the emotional and narrative crucible of the novel. Where power is consumed, identity is stripped bare, and Aelin Galathynius finally rises from the ashes of who she was forced to become. Mistward stands alone when Wendlyn is unable to send reinforcements, leaving Celaena and Rowan scrambling to fortify the fortress. But their plans crumble when traitors open the way for Norrak's army. Under the cover of darkness, the Valg princes strike from the front while mortal soldiers access the tunnel beneath the walls, plunging Mistward into chaos. Celaena faces the Valg princes alone as Rowan and the Cadre battle inside the fortress. Overpowered and dragged into her own memories, Celaena is forced to relive the two horrific days she's buried for years. But by finally confronting her past, she unleashes the full fire of her heritage, claiming her name, Aelin Galathynius, and obliterating the Valg in a blaze that changes the war forever. At the heart of the episode is the book's most powerful revelation: Aelin does not need to be saved. By confronting her past self — the unscarred girl she left behind — she claims her name, her power, and her worth. What rises from the fire is not Celaena Sardothien atoning through destruction, but Aelin Galathynius wielding light instead of self-loathing. We also break down Rowan and Aelin's carranam bond, the symbolism of blood shared over old wounds, and why this claiming is about friendship, not romance — a turning point that reframes strength as something shared, not endured alone. Finally, we close in Rifthold, where Dorian's growing magic and quiet resolve force Chaol (and the reader) to reconsider what a king truly looks like. Central Question: What changes when a character stops believing they deserve punishment and chooses instead to live? Learn how to prepare your money for 2026 and invest retirement savings you hope to leave to your family. How do Americans feel about their money heading into 2026? How should you invest retirement accounts you don't plan to spend so your family can benefit later? The Nerds discuss how to invest a seven‑figure nest egg in workplace retirement plans to help you understand how to balance risk, taxes and legacy goals. But first, senior news writer Anna Helhoski joins hosts Sean Pyles and Elizabeth Ayoola to discuss NerdWallet's 2026 consumer outlook survey, including how confident people feel about their financial security, which potential money setbacks are weighing on them, and what big financial moves and risks they're planning to take in the new year. Then, credit writer Amanda Barroso and investing writer Taryn Phaneuf join Elizabeth to discuss how a retired military listener and their soon‑to‑be-retired spouse might invest $1.2 million they've saved in a TSP and 403b and hope to leave to their children and grandchildren. They review how TSPs and 403bs work and when it might make sense to roll them into IRAs, how to think about asset allocation when you have a long time horizon but may still face surprise retirement costs like long‑term care, and the rules around required minimum distributions and the 10‑year payout window for inherited retirement accounts. They also explore high‑level estate planning choices such as using trusts and keeping beneficiaries up to date, pros and cons of Roth conversions for heirs (including the Roth IRA five‑year rule), and how to balance leaving a legacy with using some money to create meaningful experiences with family during your lifetime. Imagine seeing your brother, who died before being baptized, standing as an heir of the celestial kingdom. This profound experience, recorded in D&C 137, opens the door to understanding God's infinite mercy. Decades later, another prophet received a vision (D&C 138) that dramatically expanded our knowledge of the work for the dead. D&C 137: The Desire of the Heart In January 1836, Joseph Smith beheld the celestial kingdom. He "marveled" to see his deceased brother, Alvin, there. The Lord revealed the magnificent principle that "all who have died without a knowledge of this gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be heirs of the celestial kingdom of God". God judges all men according to their "works, according to the desire of their hearts". This section also confirms that "all children who die before they arrive at the years of accountability are saved in the celestial kingdom of heaven". D&C 138: The Redemption of the Dead In 1918, during a time when death was on everyone's mind , Joseph F. Smith was "pondering over the scriptures". This act of study and reflection was crucial; he found that as he "wondered," his "eyes of my understanding were opened". Christ's Ministry: The prophet saw Christ's sojourn in the spirit world. Christ "went not in person among the wicked and the disobedient". The Mission Organization: Instead, He spent His time "instructing and preparing the faithful spirits of the prophets" who had testified of Him. He "organized his forces and appointed messengers" —Spirit World Missionaries—to "carry the message of redemption unto all the dead". The Eternal Work: This revelation clarifies that the faithful elders of this dispensation "continue their labors" after death. The great and mighty ones, including our latter-day prophets, were "chosen in the beginning" and received their "first lessons" in the world of spirits. This work of redemption and temple ordinances is truly a "continuation of the seeds"—a vast family effort. Call-to-Action: Which person—living or dead—can you extend the "great and wonderful love" of Christ to this week? Share your thoughts on "the desire of their hearts" in the comments!
