October 20, 2025- The state attorney general's office is supposed to offer a pathway for exonerating New Yorkers held behind bars for crimes they didn't commit, but reporting in New York Focus suggests the convictions review bureau hasn't lived up to its billing. We discuss the shortcomings of this initiative with investigative reporters Willow Higgins and Curtis Brodner.

The news can be frightening. Many people feel less safe after watching, listening to, or reading the news. On the global scale, we hear of world rulers who seem to have the power to shape our world for years to come, either for good or for ill. But in what power do you place your trust? Is it in the visible, impressive, but ultimately limited powers of this world? Or is it in the invisible, often hidden, but absolute power of God who rules over all? The Doctrine of Man's Impotence

1. If fallen man is unable to keep God's law, he cannot be obligated to keep it. Impotence obviously cancels responsibility. A child three or four years of age ought not to be whipped because it does not read and write. A legless man should not be sent to prison because he does not walk. Surely a just and holy God does not require sinful creatures to render perfect obedience to a divine and spiritual law. How is this objection to be met? First, by pointing out that it is not based upon Holy Writ but is merely human reasoning.

It is of the utmost importance that people should clearly understand and be made thoroughly aware of their spiritual impotence, for thus alone is a foundation laid for bringing them to see and feel their imperative need of divine grace for salvation. So long as sinners think they have it in their own power to deliver themselves from their death in trespasses and sins, they will never come to Christ that they might have life, for "the whole need not a physician, but they that are sick."

We begin our journey though the book of 1 Kings. This important Old Testament narrative traces the royal lineage of David, beginning with Solomon. There will be highs and plenty of lows. And in this sermon, we see that from the beginning there are major cracks in the armor–specifically the weakness of David and prideful ambition of Solomon's brother Adonijah. Through this we see both the reality of the spiritual battle at hand in our world, and our need to crown the right king.

Episode 196: Ignorance & Impotence in the ChurchThe first Christians operated with two primary forces in the Church: truth and power. Apostolic doctrine (truth) and the gifts of the Holy Spirit (power) characterized all that the Church was and did in those early years. Somewhere along the line, the marriage of these two essentials experienced a divorce. The expression of the Church became one or the other, but no longer both. We need a remarriage to occur in the present day. This episode focuses on the urgent need for a recapturing of the truth of the Word of God. How do you know that what you believe is valid? Are you taking someone else's word for it? That would be VERY risky. You may be surprised to learn from Scripture that the people who join with the Antichrist at the end of the age had one thing in common: they did not know nor love God's truth. Listen carefully and consider the offer in today's episode to join others in pursuing a trajectory to grow in learning and wielding God's truth so that you live as one who is deception-proof.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is not being impeached after all. Despite weeks of boasts from Republicans in Congress that they would send him a message, House Speaker Mike Johnson couldn't muster up the votes. After chaos on the House floor, Republicans were one vote short. Then, a Republican bill to send U.S. aid to Israel died under bipartisan opposition. Add this to the fiasco over the border bill and you have a pretty embarrassing week for Congressional Republicans. The Nevada primary results are in and it turns out Republican voters want none of the candidates they've been offered. President Biden cleaned up on the Democrats ballot.
