The Washington Commanders (7-2) host the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) at Northwest Stadium this Sunday at 1pm ET. The Steelers are coming off a bye and are firing on all cylinders with Russell Wilson as their starting QB. We begin the episode with the All-22 Review against the New York Giants, as well as a special All-22 look at Marshon Lattimore and what he brings to the table for our defense. The Commanders offense, led by sensational rookie QB Jayden Daniels and OC Kliff Kingsbury, take on an excellent Steelers defense that features TJ Watt, Cam Heyward and Alonzo Highsmith. The Steelers, however, have not faced a QB like Jayden Daniels this season, though there are some similarities in play style to Lamar Jackson, which could aid them. The Commanders defense, led by Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu, take on Russell Wilson, Najee Harris and George Pickens, who have all been fantastic in the past couple weeks since Russell Wilson took over as the starter. What is the best way to slow this Steelers offense down? The Commanders are 2.5 point home favorites, with an over under set at 45.5 points. Who will win this game? In this episode, Greg Bedard is joined by Tom Silverstein to discuss the New England Patriots' rebuild from a Green Bay Packers perspective. They explore Eliot Wolf's background and readiness for a significant role, why he lost out to Brian Gutekunst for the Packers' GM position, and the contributions of coaches like Alonzo Highsmith, Alex Van Pelt, Ben McAdoo, and Jerry Montgomery. They draw parallels between the Packers' rebuild in the early 1990s and the current state of the Patriots, discussing the "Wolf way" of team-building, attitudes toward free agency and the draft, and what Patriots fans can expect in the coming offseasons. The Miami Hurricanes only have one verbal commit at the moment for the class of 2024, and it's from placekicker Abram Murray. Are Hurricanes fans right to worry about 2024 recruiting? Host Alex Donno argues that it's way too soon to sweat over a lack of verbal commits. After Junior Day on March 4th, Donno expects to get a clearer picture of where Miami stands for some of their top targets. Usually, July 4th weekend is our benchmark for when we get an idea of how good a class looks. Donno addresses the apparent trend of Miami's new coordinators making scholarship offers to under the radar 3-star type talents. It's highly unlikely that Mario Cristobal allows an offer to go out without signing off on it first. Plus, Alonzo Highsmith, Miami's GM of Football Operations, puts in tons of work scouting lesser known players to identify diamonds in the rough. Alex answers questions from listeners. After Elijah Arroyo and Jaleel Skinner, will one of Miami's true freshman tight ends step up this season? How does Shannon Dawson use tight ends in his offense? When can Miami expect to announce their new RB & WR coaches?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! LinkedIn LinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster. Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
When can Miami expect to announce their new RB & WR coaches? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! LinkedIn LinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster. Locked On Canes - Daily Podcast On Miami Hurricanes Football & Basketball
Do the Miami Hurricanes have enough leadership within their own locker room? Coaching alone cannot possibly shoulder all of the blame for Miami's athletes getting out-played at home by Middle Tennessee State. In years past, the Hurricanes had internal leadership from players like Michael Irvin, Alonzo Highsmith, Ed Reed and Ray Lewis, just to name a few, to police one another and hold each other accountable! From the outside looking in, the current Miami Hurricanes appear to be severely lacking in this department. Host Alex Donno discusses this recent concern and wonders if leaders and accountability can emerge now during this bye week. Recent comments from Buffalo Bills standout and former Cane Greg Rousseau about Miami's culture under previous coaches indicates this issue was inherited by the current staff. Donno examines Miami's class of 2023 recruits and discusses how Miami is targeting players of certain character in addition to their physical abilities. Donno reads come comments from former Miami quarterback Malik Rosier about Miami's upcoming decision about whether to start Tyler Van Dyke or make the switch to Jake Garcia. IF Miami turns the page to Garcia, could it be happening too early for Jake? Is Miami ready to potentially divorce themselves from the Van Dyke era?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!LinkedInLinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster. 3-star quarterback Emory Williams from Milton High School in the Pensacola area has committed to Miami! He made it official on his social media on Monday evening. Williams was discovered late but has been ascending for the past few months. He had a great workout in front of Miami coaches a couple weekends ago and made a great impression on head coach Mario Cristobal, quarterback coach Frank Ponce, offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, and GM of football operations Alonzo Highsmith.Host Alex Donno explains that the commitment of Emory Williams does not necessarily mean that Miami will not land either 4-star Jaden Rashada or 5-star Dante Moore. Rashada will be one of many high profile visitors this weekend. Miami will get Rashada's final official visit before he announces his commitment on June 26th. According to Gaby Urrutia of 247 sports, Miami will also receive official visits this coming weekend from 5-star ATH Nyckoles Harbor, 5-star CB Cormani McClain, 4-star ATH Collins Acheampong, 5-star safety Joenel Aguero, among others.Donno also welcomes 3-star tight end Reid Mikeska to The U, who verbally commits just a week after another 3-star TE in Jackson Carver. Miami's future tight end room is taking shape in a big way. Is there still a chance to get a commitment from 4-star TE Riley Williams? The Miami Hurricanes have some work to do if they expect to turn their offensive line into the type of unit Mario Cristobal coached with the Oregon Ducks. Hard work, recruiting, and great coaching can get them there. The Hurricanes have a solid duo of Antonio Tripp and Frankie Tinilau already committed for the class of 2023 and the two of them have become ambassadors in sharing the gospel to other uncommitted linemen.Guest Brad Tejeda from Canes Insight joined host Alex Donno to break down a TON of recruiting information. For the offensive line, all eyes are on Miami recruits Payton Kirkland, Connor Lew, Madden Sanker, Francis Mauioga and Monroe Freeling. Brad runs through these players and which of them are more likely to choose the Canes. Donno and Brad also discussed a handful of intriguing athletes who will be making official visits to Miami in June, including Collins Acheampong and Nyckoles Harbor. The guys discuss the pleasant surprise of Miami hiring Alonzo Highsmith to become GM of football operations. What will Zo's role entail, why did he leave the NFL for this, and how will he impact recruiting? Plus, Donno and Brad talked about 2023 quarterbacks. The University of Miami has hired legendary running back Alonzo Highsmith as GM of football operations. He will work directly with head coach Mario Cristobal to support all administrative functions of the football program and will serve as a liaison between football and the administration, and between former Miami players and staff. He will also assist with scouting and roster assessment and supervise NFL relations.Host Alex Donno argues that this is a perfect hire on paper. Highsmith has been working in NFL front offices as a scout and assistant GM for 2 decades, most notably with the Green Bay Packers and most recently with the Seattle Seahawks. As college football becomes more and more like the NFL, it makes perfect sense for big programs like The U to run their operations more like an NFL team. Highsmith also checks off the boxes that come with being a Hurricanes legend, but for all of his qualifications, this is much more than just a figurehead position!Donno also recalls a story shared by UM booster Dan Lambert, who wanted Highsmith to arrive in a similar position three years ago. So why is it happening now and not back then? Lambert's story is powerful and shows you the difference between the operation being run then versus now. AD Dan Radakovich and head coach Mario Cristobal are not afraid for having someone capable and authoritative looking over their shoulder!#MiamiHurricanes #CanesFootball #ACCSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Orange Bowl BoysWeek 7 Recap vs UNCShow NotesThe Canes lost to UNC again, making Manny Diaz 0-3 during his career as head coach. Unlike last year, this year was close, 45-42, but as Alonzo Highsmith told us, only thing that matters is wins and losses and yesterday was another loss. There were absolute bright spots with many of the young kids, but in the end, falling behind early and having to chase the game did the Canes in as they fell just short. NC State is up next under the lights. We'll see you Thursday for our preview show. Orange Bowl BoysS4 E11: Alonzo HighsmithShow NotesToday, we welcome a South Florida football legend. At Columbus High, he was named a USA Today All American in 1982. He was recruited by the big boys, but instead decided to stay home, probably because Howard Schnellenberger left his pipe in his living room at some point. As a freshman member of the Miami Hurricanes, he led the team in rushing in the 1984 Orange Bowl against Nebraska to help lead The U to ring #1 and start the dynasty. He was the 3rd overall pick in the 1987 draft of the Houston Oilers and after a 5-year career as a player, he has blossomed off the field as an NFL player personnel executive over the last decade with the Packers, Browns and currently with the Seahawks. The Orange Bowl Boys are honored and humbled to welcome Mr. Alonzo Highsmith! You can find us on all social platforms under the handle: @orangebowlboysSponsors: Ed Morse Automotive Group, BeatinTheBookie.com & Draftkings SportsbookOrange Bowl Boys are owned and produced by OBB Media Inc. When the time for his tryout came, it resulted in him becoming a member of the Browns on April 5. Sheehy-Guiseppi may still be marked as a wild card to make the final roster, but he'll be running with every opportunity in the meantime.
