See, a few weeks ago, I had a vision of a band of cowboy angels that sing the songs of my soul. Here is a song by them. It's another song about our dying planet. Or...or...or...or maybe the planet will make a recovery, after all. Maybe the land will recover after humans are gone.

Well, this was a tough one, folks... We spend the first quarter of this episode explaining a loss we've experienced on and off the podcast and why one of us is no longer with us. With no super-smooth transition possible after that, we do try to carry on with our usual geeky topics... - What TV shows have we been watching lately, including Marvel & DC related shows? - Which co-host is watching the Critical Role cartoon "Vox Machina"? - What do Dave & Todd think about the current season of "Outlander"? (A couple more episodes have come out since we recorded this episode; Todd is impressed.) - How many current & recent big-screen movie releases has Dave caught up on lately, and what did he think of them all? - What YouTube channels does Todd recommend? - What is the TV show "Lore" all about? - What do we think about the whole Oscars/Smith/Rock/Slap incident, and does one of us think it might have been staged? - What accent does Todd need to improve on for his new D&D character? - What kind of characters are Andruw & Preston playing in the new D&D campaign? - And, what's the current news with "Babylon 5," "Stargate," and "The Orville." Listen now, for the answers to these and other poignant questions. SPECIAL THANKS to the "Katrina & Friends" YouTube channel and specifically Daniel Beachy, Dave Miller, and David Fisher, for their moving cover of the gospel song "Angel Band," and for giving us permission to use the song in this episode (at the very end) for a very special reason. Check out the video of their performance of the song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktthBzyJ_rY Also, my sincerest apologies for the bad audio on my (Todd's) track. Somehow I didn't notice that the built-in microphone on my laptop was inadvertently set as the input instead of my podcasting microphone. Of all the episodes to make that mistake on, this was the worst one for me to do that on. I wish I could go back and time, but sadly, I'm not Marty McFly from "Back to the Future" or Claire Fraser from "Outlander." Music Mondays Featuring the Santa Fe Desert Chorale and Artistic Director Joshua Habermann. "Angel Band" was performed by the Sante Fe Desert Chorale, arranged by Shawn Kirchner in October 2017 at Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas. Angel Band Arranged by Shawn Kirchner Text by Jefferson Hascall (1807-1887) The latest sun is sinking fast, my race is almost run, My strongest trials now are past, my triumph is begun. O come angel band, come and around me stand, O bear me away on your snow-white wings to my immortal home. I know I'm near the holy ranks of friends and kindred dear, I've brushed the dew on Jordan's banks, the crossing must be near. O come angel band, come and around me stand, O bear me away on your snow-white wings to my immortal home. I've almost reached my heav'nly home, my spirit loudly sings, The Holy Ones, behold they come; I hear the noise of wings. O come angel band, come and around me stand, O bear me away on your snow-white wings to my immortal home. Audio recording of "Angel Band" is courtesy of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale.

Also, interviews with the talented teen as well as his mentors and friends Thom Bresh and Randy Buckner. We are deeply saddened at the tragic passing of eighteen year old Evan Twitty. In this week’s “From the Vault” segment, musician, educator, and country music legacy Mark Jones offers a 1975 archival recording of Ozark original Clark Fowler and the Sacred Harp Singers performing a shape note version of the traditional song “Angel Band,” from the Ozark Folk Center State Park archives. Ozark Highlands Radio is a weekly radio program that features live music and interviews recorded at Ozark Folk Center State Park’s beautiful 1,000-seat auditorium in Mountain View, Arkansas. In addition to the music, our “Feature Host” segments take listeners through the Ozark hills with historians, authors and personalities who explore the people, stories, and history of the Ozark region. This week, accomplished modern folk performers and songwriters Wil Maring & Robert Bowlin perform live at the Ozark Folk Center State Park. Also, interviews with Wil & Robert, Dave Smith and producer Jeff Glover ask the question “What is folk music,” and Mark Jones offers an archival recording of Clark Fowler leading the “Sacred Harp Singers.” Wil Maring got her start as a songwriter, picking out songs, while working at her family’s roadside fruit stand outside Carbondale, IL. And while she’s since traveled the world, Wil continues to call rural Illinois her home. Her voice and songwriting reflect the natural, uncomplicated beauty of the rural Midwest. Wil is joined by her longtime musical collaborator Robert Bowlin. Robert is an accomplished guitarist and fiddle player, and a native of Pocahontas, Arkansas. He has extensive credits for guitar and fiddle, performing with Bill Monroe and Kathy Mattea, among other notable musicians. Ozark Highlands Radio host Dave Smith and producer Jeff Glover discuss the fine points of what makes “folk music,” drawing from interviews & perspectives of various folk musicians. Mark Jones' “From the Vault” segment offers an archival recording of legendary shape note expert Clark Fowler, leading the Sacred Harp Singers in a traditional rendition of the song “Angel Band,” from the Ozark Folk Center State Park archives.
Westminster Choir conductor Joe Miller joins WWFM The Classical Network host David Osenberg to discuss the theme and repertoire for the Westminster Choir’s 2016 tour program, titled “Angel Band.” The innovative program will center around Francis Poulenc’s monumental Mass in G Major, whose movements will serve as a frame upon which a musical tapestry will be woven of works by Debussy, Brahms, Dawson and Antognini. A connecting thread will be the traditional American hymn O Come, Angel Band:O, come, angel band,Come and around me stand;O, bear me away on your snowy wingsTo my eternal home.

ANGEL BAND is a group of three powerful women artists: Nancy Josephson, Kathleen Weber, and Aly Paige. No audience has been left unmoved by Angel Bands all out, “take no prisoners stage demeanor and rootsy, bluesy Americana songs. Performing at Bonnaroo, Merlefest, the Philadelphia Folk Festival and other high profile events, this band is winning over many new listeners in their travels. Their new album is titled "Bless My Sole" on Appleseed Records. MICHAEL HEARNE moved to Northern New Mexico 25 years ago from Austin, Texas, and immediately joined forces with numerous other musical luminaries including Michael Martin Murphey and Tish Hinojosa, becoming an integral part of Murphey's band. Called the Acoustic Southwestern Americana Musical Guitar Genius, this native Texan continues to leave an indelible mark on his audiences not only with his signature Michael Hearne guitar sound, but also with songs and stories that are rich in lyrical prose, imagery and humor. His newest CD, The High Road to Taos, has received critical acclaim, with some discriminating reviewers declaring it to be his finest work to date. THE LAWS are a husband and wide duo from Wheatley, Ontario Canada. They are the FIRST Canadians to win the prestigious Chris Austin Song Writing Contest at MerleFest. It's not surprising John and Michele Law kick off their sixth album "Try Love" with the line 'I believe in love at first sight,' as the album marks The Laws' 10 years and one million miles on the road as a couple.

It is time once again for a LMP PSA. If you are new to the live music downloading scene and need help with downloading and converting different file formats check out the Getting Started link in the upper left part of the page. I'd also be happy to answer any questions via "email" . The band leader from this episode has been included on more episodes of the LMP than any other but this will be the first time she and her band get the stage all to themselves. The first sighting appeared on Episode 14 when Grace Potter joined Gov't Mule for amazing renditions of Emmy Lou Harris' Angel Band followed by the Fleetwood Mac classic Gold Dust Woman. If you haven't heard that episode yet, Grace Potter more than holds her own on both songs which is quite a feat considering the legendary singers being covered. The second appearance came on Episode 16 which featured Grace Potter with her bandmates the Nocturnals during Warren Haynes 19th Annual X-Mas Jam. For this episode they laid down a jammed out version of their song ‘Watching You' which is most likely responsible for them entering my download radar. After hearing that show I picked up several more really good recordings but held off on pulling the trigger on a podcast until I found just the right one show. I'm really glad that I did wait because "the one" turned out to be recorded last month and truly blew me away. Here is Grace Potter and the Nocturnals from their February 21st concert in New York City. If you like Grace Potter's style of music you might also enjoy some of the music featured on Honest Tunes Radio. I've been listening to the podcast for a while now and dig their mix of live tunes and in studio interviews with some great bands from the jam and roots scene. If you have been listening to the Live Music Podcast for a while this is probably already apparent, but I try to mix up the musical styles quite a bit. Last episode featured the electronic sounds of Daft Punk and this time I am featuring the bluesy jam band Gov't Mule. Known by some as the Mule, this band has been together since the mid nineties and has built up a very loyal fan base. Musically their songs aren't a great fit for most radio stations so they remain relatively unknown to the majority despite their immense amounts of talent. The concert I am featuring was played at the Voodoo Lounge in Kansas City on November 1st of this year. I almost got tickets to this and after listening to the recording I really am kicking myself for not going. Fortunately for me the recording is absolutely flawless and props go out to the mystery taper who posted it on bt.etree.org.
