We hear the term “personal brand” a lot, but do we know exactly what it means and how to use our personal brand to get more speaking opportunities? Imagine getting requests from organizers to speak at their conferences and events without you having to pitch them and, even better, getting paid speaking engagements. That’s what having a powerful personal brand can do for you. My guest in this episode, Diane Diaz, has experienced exactly that that as she’s built her personal brand both online and offline. We talk about: What a personal brand is Ways to figure out what your personal brand is (i.e. how do others see you) How Diane has positioned herself as an expert and as a speaker over the past two years and the results she’s seen Specific strategies you can use to create a powerful personal brand (we even come up with an alliteration of 3 S’s!) Doing webinars for other people’s online communities   Be sure to also check out the Facebook Live video replay that Diane and I recently did on Leveraging LinkedIn for Speakers. Plus, I have an exciting announcement that you’ll hear in this episode! About My Guest: Diane Diaz is the founder of The Brand Teacher and a self-described brand geek. She uses her two decades of combined branding, marketing, and teaching experience to teach professionals and entrepreneurs how to define and build personal brands that will attract their dream jobs or clients so they can build careers or businesses they love. Diane also teaches branding classes at Full Sail University. Diane has spoken on the topic of personal branding to organizations including NAWBO Orlando, International Coaching Federation, FemCity Orlando, Florida Trucking Association, Public Allies, Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, Women in Automotive, Indian American Chamber of Commerce, and Commercial Real Estate Women Orlando. She’s also been interviewed on numerous podcasts on the topic of personal branding.   About Us: The Speaking Your Brand podcast is hosted by Carol Cox. For this episode of #OnTheSpot, we sat down the collaboration consultant, Baily Hancock to discuss millennial women finding their place in the workplace and in their careers. As a Collaboration Consultant, fellow Podcaster and Workshop Instructor, Baily helps people collaborate with their community to achieve their goals; whether that's making a career change or growing their business through Baily Hancock HQ. (https://bailyhancock.com/) When Baily first began collaboration consulting, she launched her first course called "The Career Experiment," where she had only one person signed up for it. This failure propelled her to work harder the second time around, and her hard work paid off: she promoted her second online course, "The 1-Year Career" much more, and thus began her road to entrepreneurship. Before co-founding Austin Cocktails in 2011, Kelly Gasink was full immersed in the tech field, co-founding several different software companies including 1stUp.com and Connect Group. She founded Austin Cocktails (https://www.austincocktails.com/home) with her sister Jill Burns, both being independently accomplished entrepreneurs. Austin Cocktails is family-owned: Growing up, Kelly spent her summers on her grandparents' farm plucking fruits nad veggies she ate. Across the years, she developed a working knowledge of the land and the roles that seasons and location play in forming fresh ingredients. Her grandfather also established a tradition called "Cocktail Time," which eventually all played a part in Kelly's beverage business. At the company, Kelly manages distributor and retailer strategies and oversees corporate finance, working with supply chain members. They prepare their line of drinks using five-times distilled vodka and premium tequila, and use all-natural herbs to create full-bodied, but low-calorie, cocktails. Kelly earned a degree in Economics from Stanford Univeristy, then went on to get her MPP from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. How can you expand your network and reach new people? Collaborating with others who share a similar mission, vibe, and audience can be one of the best ways to do that. But, how do you actually collaborate in a pre-planned way? What does that look like (webinars, FB Live, workshops, podcasts, etc.)? What does each person gain and, just as importantly, what does each person’s audience gain? My guest today is Baily Hancock, a Collaboration Consultant who teaches people how to collaborate with their community to achieve their goals. In this episode, Baily and I talk about: Tips for attending networking events, even if you’re an introvert Specific strategies and examples you can use to identify partners and reach out to them How to improve the likelihood that a potential partner will say “yes” Ideas for doing promotional partnerships that benefit both of you AND both of your communities The pros and cons (mostly cons) of being an affiliate for others The 20 speaking gigs Baily has done this year - why she does them and what she gets out of them   You’ll love Baily’s obvious passion and energy for collaboration and you’ll learn exactly what to do to get started. Your homework is to identify someone in your network you can collaborate with and reach out to them to get the conversation started.   I met Baily through a mutual friend, Mia Scharphie, who introduced us (the power of collaboration!). Mia was on the podcast in episode 46 (We All Need a Wingwoman), which is an excellent companion episode to this one. I’m thrilled to introduce The Career Experiment creator and collaboration consultant, Baily Hancock. Baily is an entrepreneur and self-professed “multi-passionate” who had a quarter-life crisis and “pressed the explode button” on her traditional life in Florida and moved across the country to California to explore her curiosities and experiment with different career possibilities. During her year and a half journey, Baily discovers that throughout her journey, from having a variety of random and odd jobs (all of which she had a blast doing), she had acquired the skills and knowledge needed to figure out her next step. Through self-reflection she identifies her deal breakers, motivators, passions, and values, which culminated in her latest endeavor, The Career Experiment. Baily is a true teacher and firm believer in living your best life and helping people make the most of their lives. This episode is sure to incite the entrepreneur in us all and leave you thinking, “Is it time to lose my mind?
