This week, we will discuss what vulnerability is and the benefits of being open in connections with others. Let's be real it can feel awkward to get vulnerable with people. We fear opening up fully out of being hurt, judged, or rejected. However, vulnerability is consciously choosing to share emotions or desires with others regardless of how they may see you or react. While vulnerability is difficult for a lot of us, it is key to establishing healthy relationships. Some come in and let's get raw with us. Do you find yourself asking… How do we feel close again after we just had a disagreement?  My partner doesn't like to come back and talk about the hard stuff.  My partner doesn't apologize. I always have to bring up the hard conversations.   I get it.  This is a common experience in our relationships.  The reality? We didn't learn how to repair. It was never modelled to us or it came attached with a lot of shame. And yet, repairing is one of the most important things we need to do in our relationship because without it, we are more likely to build resentment and disconnection.  In today's episode, I get to sit with Dr. Morgan Anderson. Clinical psychologist and founder of Dr. Morgan Coaching, host of the podcast Let's Get Vulnerable, and all around wise-woman and badass babe, we were so lucky to have her on to share some insights and tell a WILD story about a romantic episode from the last year of her teens. We start off with an interview about attachment styles, Dr. Morgan's therapy practice and relationship coaching, and discuss what she calls "the relationship inventory," which involves going through all your important relationships to discover patterns. We nerd out about feelings, obviously. What follows is a truly epic tale about a guy she met in a club in Guatemala. It has it all: wild infatuation, double-helix love triangles, and some on-point attachment-style analysis. “In the beginning, people think vulnerability will make you weak, but it does the opposite. It shows you're strong enough to care.” ~ Victoria Pratt Guest Introduction:  Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life, a podcast for women with a big heart on a spiritual journey. I'm your host Cindy MacMillan and I'm joined today by Kayleen Johnson. Each week I interview coaches and spiritual explorers, from all walks of life about beginnings, endings and the messy bits in between. Self-love well-being and mindset are at the heart of our conversations. Because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well. Hey, beautiful friends welcome back to another episode of Exploring the seasons of life podcast.   I've had the honor and privilege to interview numerous truly amazing women during this self-care series called Life in Full Bloom: Living From the Inside Out.   And I'm thrilled to share today's guest. Kayleen Johnson has a passion for people. She loves quickly and whole-heartedly. She has a BA in Theatre Arts Studies from Brigham Young University. People and their stories have always been important to her, which is part of the reason she started the podcast, Scars We Share. True connection happens through vulnerability. Here's a glimpse of our conversation: Kayleen, welcome to the podcast.  5:52 We don't have to like every season of our life that we go through. But everything that we go through is a part of who we are and makes up who we are. And we wouldn't be who we are now without everything that we've gone through.  11:01 The first question I always ask people is, what physical scars do you have, and this has multiple port presses, you know, it is like connecting physical to internal scars. But it's also to help people get comfortable, because I'm about to ask them very vulnerable things.  14:04 . Everyone has been through different things. Everyone has experienced things differently. And so, I don't know I just think there's such a beauty into really jumping into those internal scars to let other people know that they're not alone.  16:51 I seriously love that you said that, give permission. Because as ridiculous as it is, you sometimes, have this inability to give yourself permission to do something. And it's, this really ridiculous thing that I think we all need to retrain ourselves out of, but, but sometimes hearing someone else, it just gives you that permission. It's like, Oh, you gave me permission to do this. I think I can do this now. Love that.  22:36 So that stood out to me just so much because I just had no I had no clue what he'd been through. And it was just pretty intense. Like we both cried during the episode and had a wonderful, wonderful talk.  30:24 I know that is preached and talked about so many times, but there's a reason it's preached and talked about so many times, when you can train your mind to focus on gratitude, the more you have to be grateful for.  35:00 Oh, yeah, well, and one of the other reasons I think it's really important to know all of those things is it can kind of change. What brought me joy as a teenager, is not the same thing that brings me joy now as a 32 year old.  47:04 I think that all I would really be able to tell my 18-year-old self would be you are strong. And you're going to go through a lot of stuff. And you were always going to come back out on the other side even better than you were before. One of the most vulnerable episodes I think I've recorded so far... I openly share my recent self discoveries, triggers I've come to face, and deeper wounds that I didn't realize were controlling my day-to-day life (dating back to middle school and high school). I talk about Instagram insecurities and how I'm learning to set boundaries with my energy. I talk about psychedelics, and how microdosing mushrooms has been a wonderful tool! I also end it out by sharing a little Instagram poll that YOU answered on the podcast Instagram: do you believe in god, are you open to psychedelics, do you trust yourself, and more! This is a very chatty, spontaneous episode that I hope you guys enjoy :) I don't see a point in doing this podcast if I can't be vulnerable and share where I'm at honestly- the good, the bad, all of it! More than ever before, human connection is vital to bring our lives meaning. What role does vulnerability play in deepening relationships? How can we use vulnerability to expand human connection? We also make a pretty good argument about ripping bandaids off - quickly.

Last week we heard Wayne Schwass talked about how manning up now means to put your hand up. The narrative has changed. We have a bigger platform to distribute our thoughts and feelings towards one another. In the context of footy, we all analyse and project our views about players, administrators and other fans. We're in the early phases of understanding how much impact we actually have with these words. With a big enough sample size we now understand how much words can affect varying individuals. At some point we are going to need to stop blaming others and start taking accountability for ourselves. The message from this is one that will hopefully allow you to feel comfort in reaching out to do the following: - Take a moment to audit how you feel about yourself - Reach out to your inner circle and allow yourself to be vulnerable - Evolve to be the next best version of yourself Don't wait until #WorldMentalHealthDay - let's talk today
