The Frankenstein Brothers are ready to rumble! In this sorta-kinda sequel to Frankenstein vs. Baragon and the final Japanese/American collab with UPA, gargantuan bros Sanda and Gaira -- one friendly and peace-loving, one violent and hungry -- have a battle to the death, but not before extensive sequences of military fights, people-eating, and a big musical number. We get into this film's underlying darkness, the troubles with lead Russ Tamblyn (of Twin Peaks!), and a strangely empty story for the human characters.Cover Art by: DougPart of The Glitterjaw Queer Podcast CollectiveCover Art Gallery | Patreon | DiscordEmail: skreeonkpodcast@gmail.comTheme song: "BIO WARS - Synth Cover" by Kweer KaijuSources include: A Critical History and Filmography of Toho's Godzilla Series by David KalatIshirō Honda: A Life in Film, from Godzilla to Kurosawa by by Steve Ryfle and Ed GodziszewskiGodzilla FAQ: All That's Left to Know About the King of the Monsters by Brian SolomonYouTube Compilation of UPA Version DifferencesWikizilla
The Vampire Doll (1970), Lake of Dracula (1971), and Evil of Dracula (1974). In the annals of Japanese horror cinema, this vampire trilogy from director Michio Yamamoto seems to be close to escaping into obscurity. In fact, try finding much more than a passing mention of these films in any reference books. But thanks to Arrow Video, all three of these films are at least saved from fading away in the sunlight like any good vampire, in one fantastic box set! Because these seemed to be on the outskirts of the vampire genre, we thought it would be a great opportunity for us to take a closer look at them, and to see if they need more attention. Listen and find out! Films mentioned in this episode: Blacula (1972), Cannibal Holocaust (1980), Count Yorga, Vampire (1970), Dracula 72 AD (1972), El Topo (1970), Evil of Dracula (1974), Frankenstein (1931), Frankenstein vs Baragon (1965), Horror of Dracula (1957), Ju-On (2002), King Kong vs Godzilla (1963), Lake of Dracula (1971), Lust for a Vampire (1971), Ring (1998), Seeding of a Ghost (1983), Son of Frankenstein (1939), Throne of Blood (1957), The Vampire Doll (1970), Vampyros Lesbos (1971)
Let's get supernatural with this J-Horror take on Godzilla! Chris McDonald (author of the upcoming Daikaiju Rumble) joins us for the unusual Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (aka GMK), which features Godzilla as a malicious manifestation of many angry ghosts. It's WILD! We talk about the reinvention of King Ghidorah as a nice friendly dragon alongside a wasp-like Mothra and literal underdog Baragon, how we almost got another Anguirus appearance, and what makes this all so deeply tied to lifelong rival Gamera. Frankenstein's monster is a kaiju?! In one of the weirder entries in Toho's monster canon (localized as Frankenstein Conquers the World), the modern Prometheus is a regenerative caveman-like being born from the atomic bomb who grows to colossal size. Also, an adorable subterranean puppy comes from below to fight him. We talk about the very first collaboration between Toho and American producers, and the resulting conflict among Ishirō Honda's desire to honor the classic Frankenstein story, Toho's desire to make another giant monster movie, and America's desire to have a random octopus for some reason. From the studio that brought you Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan, comes one of the most bizarre movies ever made: Frankenstein Conquers the World, aka Frankenstein vs. Baragon (1965). The plot? You ready for this?…. After the Nazis steal the heart of the Frankenstein Monster, they transport it to Hiroshima, where the nuclear bomb mutates the heart into a 65-foot giant, who battles a subterranean dinosaur… __________ Taylor Zaccario…Host, Director, Producer, Writer Nick Zaccario…Host, Director, Producer, Editor

What a lengthy title! After two box office failures, Toho overpowers the dream movie of their next director in order to ensure positive cash flow. The result? This film. Move over B and C-string monsters, the big boys of Mothra and Ghidorah are in town for this epic (with their side kick, Baragon)! Come join Joe and Adam as they discuss this "classic" and controversial Godzilla film, which sees Godzilla possessed by the souls of a previous generation as he (or is it they?) seek to punish Japan.

After Godzilla leapt to the big screen in 1954, he quickly became Japan's most recognizable pop culture expression of lasting trauma and remorse over the nuclear end of their involvement in WWII. In the 1960s, Godzilla-inspired kaiju movies took this same metaphor of an unstoppable destructive force that indiscriminately kills both the innocent and the guilty with equal fury, and made it fun! Carlo Vanstiphout of Back Row Cinema and CRUD Buddies shares his expertise on his favorite era of Japanese monster movies and help us understand how Japan learned to stop worrying and love the atomic monsters. While Godzilla is discussed in detail, Carlo focuses mostly on Big G's Toho friends, as well as a certain fire-powered turtle and a stone giant from Daiei (Toho Studio's main kaiju competition). In this episode, Carlo navigates through the several dozen kaiju movies made in the Sixties and chooses six that he truly enjoys and thinks best represent what was happening in the genre at the time. Left to their own devices, Bart and Jenna could have blundered through these movies and perhaps drawn a few conclusions about the appeal of rubber monsters in the ‘60s. But thankfully Carlo is on hand to explain what the hell is going on in these colorful, outrageously fun, and often perplexing batch of films. The following films are discussed:• Mothra (1961) モスラ Directed by Ishirô Honda Starring Furankî Sakai, Hiroshi Koizumi, Kyôko Kagawa• Frankenstein vs. Baragon (a.k.a. Frankenstein Conquers The World) (1965) フランケンシュタイン対地底怪獣 Directed by Ishirô Honda Starring Nick Adams, Kumi Mizuno, Tadao Takashima• Daimajin (1966) 大魔神 Directed by Kimiyoshi Yasuda Starring Miwa Takada, Yoshihiko Aoyama, Jun Fujimaki• Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (a.k.a. Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster) (1966) ゴジラ・エビラ・モスラ 南海の大決闘 Directed by Jun Fukuda Starring Akira Takarada, Kumi Mizuno, Chôtarô Tôgin• King Kong Escapes (1967) キングコングの逆襲 Directed by Ishirô Honda Starring Rhodes Reason, Mie Hama, Linda Miller• Gamera vs. Guiron (1969) ガメラ対大悪獣ギロン Directed by Noriaki Yuasa Starring Nobuhiro Kajima, Miyuki Akiyama, Christopher Murphy

Welcome back to Ranking the Monsters. This time, it's a battle of the B-tier kaijus. Ishirō Honda is most famous for Godzilla, then Mothra, then King Ghidorah maybe. But, he also created Baragon and Manda. Who are they? Well, they are introduced in the films Frankenstein Conquers the World and Atragon. But who are they? Well... The films aren't great at showing this. So, join Calvin and Stephen as they evaluate the origin of these kaiju who will return in Destroy All Monsters (1968), and debate whether a Frankenstein movie and a submarine film (...yup) are really kaiju films.

You be the judge.-----------------------------------------------While Japan continues to struggle with remembering the sins of it's past, three ancient guardian beasts (Baragon, Mothra, and King Ghidorah) awaken to protect their homeland from an overpowered and bloodthirsty monster, Godzilla.-----------------------------------------------KAIJU RAMEN MAGAZINE:https://www.kaijuramenmagazine.com/-----------------------------------------------CONTACT KAIJU WEEKLY:kaijuweekly@gmail.comFOLLOW ALL THINGS KAIJU WEEKLY:Follow us on TwitterFollow us on InstagramSubscribe to our YouTube ChannelBecome a PatreonKaiju Weekly MerchFOLLOW MICHAEL, THE KAIJU GROUPIE:https://linktr.ee/adminMusic for the Podcast provided by Kweer Kaiju**All film, audio clips, and graphics belong to their respective copyright holders with no infringement being intended or implied.**
Hello, kaiju lovers! “FRONKENSTEEN! FRONKENSTEEN!” In what has to be a providential “accident,” our Halloween episode is the perfect kaiju film for the spookiest time of the year: Frankenstein Conquers the World. Nathan is joined by Travis Alexander, co-host of Kaiju Weekly and the biggest Baragon fan we know (#Justice4Baragon), to discuss this wild if uneven Toho classic directed by Ishiro Honda. We discuss the film's relation to the hibakusha, the discriminated survivors of the atomic bombings, because Frankenstein's plight in the film mirrors their real-life struggles. Also, Travis gets to meet Godzilla's bumbling nephew, Godzooky (he's practically Travis's spirit animal), who helps Jimmy From NASA in the producer booth because he's still reeling from his beatdown at the hands of Daimajin. Episode image created by Michael Hamilton. We'd like to give a shout-out to our Patreon patrons Travis Alexander (of course) and Michael Hamilton (co-hosts of Kaiju Weekly); Danny DiManna (author/creator of the Godzilla Novelization Project); Eli Harris (elizilla13); Chris Cooke (host of One Cross Radio), and Bex from Redeemed Otaku! Today I talk about Frankenstein versus Baragon and what I'm gonna do for my Halloween special
JFD is back to heat up your summer even more as we kick off July with a variety of Kaiju action. That's right, it's Kai-Ju-ly!Up first, one of the most famous giant monster battles of all time, Destroy All Monsters from 1968 features a veritable who's who of Kaiju including; Godzilla, Rodan, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, Mothra, Minilla, Manda, Kumonga, Baragon, Varan and King Ghidorah! Then, Japan's other favorite giant monster Gamera returns after a 15-year hiatus in 1995's Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, where he must save Tokyo from an invading plague of giant pterodactyls with the help of Steven Seagal's daughter. And finally, a kappa (a turtle-like goblin from Japanese folklore) grows to enormous size from an atomic blast to do battle with another giant monster in the kaiju parody Death Kappa from 2010.All this plus video games where you do work, another in-depth discussion on retroactive censorship, an update on the cats in Sean's backyard, action figure chat, this week's most notable blu-rays and so much more!LISTEN NOW: MP3 Direct DonloydAlso, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. Natural disasters are well-known for not being especially cinematic, so Hollywood has had to ignore scientific fact in order to create a spectacle. But what if in the world of disaster movies, from Dante's Peak to 2012 and beyond, kaiju were responsible for each and every eruption, tremor and landslide? Is Rodan secretly huffing pyroclastic flow for recreational purposes? Did Godzilla cause the Poseidon Adventure just by swimming under the boat? Is Ghidorah creating tornadoes full of sharks to get an exciting snack? The answer is, as usual, no. But we're going to speculate on it anyway!
In this episode, we get to see a Kaiju-sized re-imagining of Frankentstein's monster, and as a bonus the misunderstood beast is dueling with Baragon! But is this whacky movie as classic as its titular character? Or does it belong buried along with Baragon? And don't forget to stick around to the end to hear Aaron and Andrew's thoughts on Zone Fighter! Godzilla movie month presses on and this time we’re going back to the Japanese films after watching that super magical Hollywood version. Brom is launched from a torpedo tube and is working on finding his way back into the sub but Alex, Jamie, Kyle, and Zac take this one on along with Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Mothra, and a not even mentioned in the title Baragon.
We turn our October attention to one of the least conventional iterations of the Frankenstein monster all in the interest of discussing Nick's favorite and most expensive toy.
Hark! What is that familiar roar? The big guy is BACK, and we stomp on all the critics as we joyfully revel in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. We then move to another Toho terror, namely Frankenstein Conquers the World. The cheese! The glory! The tiny fake horse! I hope you brought snacks, as Frankie is HUNGRY. #tmipodcast #tmiconfessionals #tmimovies #godzilla #ghidorah #mothra #rodan #frankenstein #baragon #verafarmiga #kylechandler #milliebobbybrown
Episode 6 of Kaiju Curry House has dropped, so stop what you are doing and download it because Mothra has finally done something right! You lucky people can have a listen to “The One where Mothra finally does something right”. In this episode we have a good old chin wag over GMK. That’s Godzilla, Mothra...
Giant Monster Messages: Frankenstein vs Baragon Of course we Ask a Scientist. We also talk a lot about the original Frankenstein book, you should read it.

Byrd and Matt are joined by guest Chris (of the Other Sounds Podcast and Cosmic Monster) to discuss the work and life of Haruo Nakajima, who passed away on August 7, 2017. Nakajima is best known for playing Godzilla from 1954-1972, as well as playing Rodan, Mothra, Baragon, the Green Gargantua, Varan, various Ultraman kaiju, and many others. Nakajima was the most prolific suit actor of the Showa era and endured plenty of dangerous situations by playing monsters underwater, being flung through the air on wires, having explosives go off near his flesh, being buried alive, and more, all in the name of entertainment. We discuss Nakajima's start as a stuntman, working with Akira Kurosawa, his filmography, and our favorite Nakajima roles, as well as who he was to us and his legion of fans worldwide.

It's time for everyone's favorite variety concert act, as this month on Earth Destruction Directive, we play "That's Familiar!" We kick things off with not one, but TWO episodes of Ultraman which feature monsters who even the not-so-discerning critic will most likely recognize: Gabora (he's got four legs, scales on his back, and a long tail) and Jirass (he's an upright dinosaur that breathes fire and has forward-set eyes). That's alright though, because Ultraman is on the case to keep these recycled menaces from causing too much trouble. Then it's time for the familiar team of Moench and Trimpe in the pages of Shogun Warriors, as they take on the unfamiliar scenario of a kid being trapped inside Combatra! All these soothing, easy to digest thoughts and more await you on this episode of Earth Destruction Directive! One of the very best modern Godzilla films, with the first significant screen time for the monster Baragon since 1965's Frankenstein Conquers The World. With co-host Aaron Ballew
Ever see a movie that better the second time? That is what happened as we watched this episode's film Frankenstein Conquers the World! We really wanted to have Joe on for this one but the schedules just didn't work out, maybe soon... Baragon appears in this one as well plus... wait for it... http://searchforschlock.com/media/podcasts/sfs-009-FrankensteinConquersTheWorld.mp3 Download MP3 PLOT SYNPOSIS: Near the end of World War II, Nazis obtain the immortal heart of Frankenstein['s monster] and send it to their allies in Hiroshima -- just in time for a fateful atomic blast. Fifteen years later, scientists discover a feral boy who they believe is Frankenstein['s monster], regenerated from the lost heart; his disembodied limbs are ambulatory, and protein makes him huge. Meanwhile, a gigantic underground creature that everyone calls Baragon wreaks havoc across rural Japan. FAMOUS FOR: Being one of the kookier films in the Kaiju genre, and from original Gojira director Ishirō Honda no less. A giant monster is portrayed by an actor not wearing a rubber suit, which is somehow a great deal more disconcerting. And then there's that ending. PREPARE YOURSELF FOR: Frankenstein's hideous, horrible face. His mouth is always slightly open and his tongue seems swollen, pressed against his upper lip. It's really gross. I'd also say prepare yourself for the ending, but nothing can prepare you for the ending. NOTE! We didn't realize this at the time, but we watched the international cut of the film. If you watch the Japanese or American cut, you'll wonder why we thought the ending was batshit insane. So don't make that mistake. Also of interest: we are joined once again by Andrew's brother James, as excellent a podcasting guesthost as ever there was.Original post located at searchforschlock.com.
