What a CreepSeason 29, Episode 2Stephen Collins & Jeffrey Jones (Replay ep!)Stephen Collins is best known for his role on the wholesome WB drama series 7th Heaven, which aired from 1996 to 2007. Jeffrey Jones is likely most recognized for portraying the cartoonish principal in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and the clueless dad in Beetlejuice. The Max show "Hollywood Demons" includes an entire episode discussing Collins's disturbing behavior, featuring testimonies from one of his victims. Host Gabe González takes a dive into the unsettling corporate world of the Peabody award-winning show Severance. Through the dystopian and satirical concept of splitting one's consciousness into an “innie” (work self) and “outie” (home self), Severance explores the lengths corporations will go to dehumanize its workforce and the ways in which workers alternate between accepting these degradations and fighting back. To take a closer look at these themes, Gabe chats with Severance executive producer and director Ben Stiller, in addition to actor Adam Scott, who portrays Severance's protagonist Mark. Finally, to break down the theme of a dehumanized workplace, Peabody Awards executive director Jeffrey Jones speaks with professor of sociology Dr. Allison Pugh about her book The Last Human Job: The Work of Connecting in a Disconnected World.

Since returning to office, the Trump administration has taken aim at diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), with major American corporations scrapping their policies and programs in response. But the backlash goes beyond DEI — corporate climate commitments are under attack, too.The progressive policies being rolled back fall under ESG (environmental, social and governance). ESG factors help businesses evaluate their practices related to sustainability and ethics, and help investors decide who to support. But with major political shifts taking place in the U.S., could Canada's ESG boom go bust too?Jeffrey Jones is the Globe's ESG and sustainable finance reporter. He'll explain the rise of ESG, the growing backlash, and whether we could see Canadian companies roll back their own environmental commitments in the coming months.Enter this Decibel survey: https://thedecibelsurvey.ca/ and share your thoughts for a chance to win $100 grocery gift cardsQuestions? JFD is back to help you ease into November and this month we pay tribute to Teri Garr by taking a look at three of the goofiest entries in her filmography. Up first, OG SNL writer Tom Schiller directs a short for Cinemax Comedy Experiment in 1988 titled Flapjack Floozie starring Teri Garr as a turn-of-the-century singer with and addiction for pancakes that almost spells her demise. Then, the director of License to Drive and the writers of Bill and Ted tell the tale of a boring middle-aged suburban couple (the disgraced Jeffrey Jones and the wonderful Teri Garr) who are kidnapped by an alien dictator (Jon Lovitz) in the visually impressive Mom and Dad Save the World from 1992. And finally, Teri Garr plays the mother of a young boy played by Ben Savage who befriends an alien played by Sinbad, who he finds in a box of cereal and helps him defeat an intergalactic threat in the made-for-TV movie Aliens for Breakfast from 1995. Alberta and Texas have a lot in common. Both have independent western cultures, great country music, and each lead their countries in oil production. And over the past decade, they've both been the unlikely hosts to the multibillion-dollar renewable energy boom – with swaths of the Texas and Alberta energy grids going green. But while Texas becomes a leader, Alberta is changing course.Jeffrey Jones, a Calgary-based reporter with The Globe's Report on Business, took road trips through both vistas to learn how and why these oil-producing regions became hubs for clean energy, and what's behind Texas's green surge and Alberta's slowdown.Questions? This week on the Artist Academy Podcast is yet another replay of an interview I did over 4 years ago with an inspiring artist who is living their unique art dream. William Jeffrey Jones is a sculptor living a little over an hour away from me in small-town Missouri. After this interview, I was so inspired by this unique human that I drove to his location to meet and create with him. We threw on the pottery wheel, and I made a really big cup. We also recorded the session and put it inside the Academy because, back then, I had no idea what kinds of content artists wanted, so I was just recording anything and everything creative. William is the epitome of an artist living out his purpose in life, the way he wants to live it out on the daily. He owns a pottery studio and coffee shop, works the odd hours he feels called to work, and creates the coolest things! Check out his Instagram to see what I mean.Let me know what you think of this week's replay with sculptor William Jeffrey Jones.
It's showtime! In NostalgiaCast's annual Halloween special, Jonny and Darin visit the afterlife for a spirited discussion of Tim Burton's BEETLEJUICE, starring Michael Keaton, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, and Winona Ryder. They talk about the legacy of the film, how it slots in with Burton's other idiosyncratic work, and the elements—production design-wise and problematic character-wise—that either do or do not stand the test of time. Let's turn on the juice and see what shakes loose!
In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing BEETLEJUICE (1988), from director Tim Burton and a screenplay by Michael McDowell, Larry Wilson and Warren Skaaren. A recently deceased couple, the Maitlands (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) do their best to rid their home of it's obnoxious new residents, the Deetzs (Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones) but in doing so, will all of them fall victims to the mischievous "bio-exorcist" named Beetlejuice? The film clocks in at 1 h and 32 m, is rated PG and currently streaming on Max, TBS, TNT, The Roku Channel and to buy/rent from Prime Video. While it boasts a star-studded cast (Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Christopher Lee, Jeffrey Jones, and practically the entire cast of the Harry Potter series), we note that the passage of time has not remained kind to this one. What is wrong with it? Nothing, actually. It's just ... well, not what we expected, and not as fond as we remembered it. Nevertheless, the classic tale of Ichabod Crane and The Headless Horseman is utterly PERFECT for conjuring up those Halloween vibes. Let's take a deep dive into this as we get into the spirit of the season.
It's the SPOOOoooOOOkiest month, so why not check out the surprisingly un-spooky (and, honestly, pretty unfunny) TRANSYLVANIA 6-5000 on the world's finest chronological Carol Kane podcast PRAISING KANE? Starring Jeff Goldblum and Ed Begley Jr. as two hapless tabloid reporters forced to go to Transylvania to work on a story about monster sightings, the film has supporting performances from Joseph Bologna, John Byner, Michael Richards, Jeffrey Jones (ugh), an extremely underutilized Geena Davis and - of course - Carol Kane! Directed by frequent Mel Brooks collaborator Rudy De Luca and bankrolled by the Dow chemical company (?) it's plenty weird. How weird? Let's find out! The post Episode 244 – Praising Kane – Transylvania 6-5000 (1985) first appeared on Cinema Smorgasbord.

This week we're covering Tim Burton's ghost with the most: Beetlejuice! We discuss its themes of acceptance, regaining innocence, unique blend of horror and comedy, reverse haunting, great performances, and more! This episode originally aired on Monday Sep 13, 2021 I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa Beetlejuice is a 1988 American horror comedy film directed by Tim Burton, produced by The Geffen Company, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The plot revolves around a recently deceased couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who become ghosts haunting their former home, and an obnoxious, devious poltergeist named Betelgeuse (pronounced and occasionally spelled Beetlejuice in the film and portrayed by Michael Keaton) from the Netherworld who tries to scare away the new inhabitants (Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Winona Ryder).
This week, Rolando, Nicole, and Eddie take a deep dive into the lasting legacy of Tim Burton's distinctive filmography, focusing on Beetlejuice. We explore why Burton's gothic, eccentric style has resonated so strongly with audiences—particularly millennials. What is it about his unique blend of whimsy and darkness that keeps his work so beloved, even decades later? Next, we focus on Beetlejuice itself and uncover an interesting revelation: despite Michael Keaton's unforgettable portrayal, the title character doesn't appear until more than halfway through the film. Instead, the true narrative centers around the Maitlands, portrayed by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, and their attempt to navigate the afterlife. We also take a moment to appreciate the stellar performances of Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O'Hara as Delia, who bring a remarkable energy to the film. Finally, we discuss the long-awaited sequel, which began production in 2023 after years in green lit limbo. Was this return to the world of Beetlejuice worth the wait? We also examine the absence of Jeffrey Jones and whether Tim Burton still has the box office power he once commanded. In honor of its second week on the top of the charts, we are digging out of the vault the original episode on Beetlejuice from the mind of Tim Burton. I have not seen the new one as of writing this, but suffice to say, I am excited. Enjoy this cleaned up bonus episode! How will Beetlejuice and this 10 year old episode hold up? Host: Nic Panel: Daniel, Jon, Emily Steve Directed by Tim Burton Starring: Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones, Winona Ryder, Glenn Shadix
You are not supposed to say the name “Beetlejuice” three times, otherwise he will appear. Someone must've said gone and said it because he's back in theaters 36 years after we last saw him in 1988 in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” Michael Keaton reprises yet another one of the characters that made him the star that he is along with Winona Ryder, as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O'Hara, as Delia Deetz, from the original. Also, Tim Burton returns to direct this sequel to the movie that pretty much got him the “Batman” job. Burton does again feature the afterlife oddities and general weirdness but amplifies it for today's audience. It all starts with Lydia seeing Beetlejuice visions and needing to reunite with her daughter, Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega. Events soon lead them to the house from the first movie and all that lie within, including the title character, who hasn't forgotten Lydia. However, there's a ghostly figure, named Delores played by Monica Bellucci, who hasn't forgotten about Beetlejuice. She's on the hunt for her man and woe to any that get in her way. Tim Burton also brings in some new characters like Rory, played by Justin Theroux and Wolf Jackson played by Willem Dafoe. Will it haunt you forever if you don't go see this at the theater? Check out this episode to find out that very thing. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” also stars Arthur Conti, Nick Kellington, Santiago Cabrera, Burn Gorman, Danny DeVito, Sami Slimane and Amy Nuttall. Mike Smith, advocate for devils, returns for our first installmant in Keanu Week. Florida lawyer, Keanu Reeves, moves to the big city, meets his maker (Pacino), and makes a lot of questionable decisions - including but not limited to ignoring and thought-cheating on his wife (Charlize Theron). But don't worry! It's just a test. Meanwhile, this movie hates women! [Trigger Warning: multiple sexual assaults are alluded to, but not portrayed in this film. Also, Jeffrey Jones is in this one.]
In this episode, Peabody Awards executive director Jeffrey Jones interviews Black Mirror's showrunner and creator Charlie Brooker. They discuss the importance of interrogating technology's role in our life, disrupting the “tech as savior” narrative, the way both satire and sci-fi imagine our potential (and potentially disastrous) futures and the clash between the ideals of technology and our very human flaws. In the second half, Gabe González talks to tech journalist Carole Cadwalladr about the limitations of journalism to affect change, and the importance of entertainment narratives such as Black Mirror to help the public see and understand the imminent dangers posed by a world increasingly shaped by “Big Tech.”

Many of the issues and questions that delayed the project – concerns over its safety and the environment, fights over Indigenous land rights, long-term economic risks – remain.Jeffrey Jones, The Globe's sustainable finance reporter, explains the ballooning costs of the TMX and why one of Canada's top exports is creating tension with its future climate targets.Questions?
