Bill Boyd and His Cowboy Ramblers was really just a radio band . . Boyd would record using a floating personnel of whoever was available (much as did Lionel Hampton, Red Allen and Teddy Wilson in New York). Members of Roy Newman's band, the Modern Mountaineers and the Light Crust Doughboys appear on this subset of Boyd's huge discography from the period - slanted mostly towards jazz and pop music of the 1920's these records feature Knocky Parker and Smoky Wood on piano, Marvin Montgomery on banjo, Carroll Hubbard, Jesse Ashlock and J.R. Chatwell on violins and Butch Gibson on clarinet as well as Boyd's brother Jim on bass and vocals. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/john-clark49/support

The first half of 1964 rounds out with very few Australian releases high in the charts. In fact, the highest-charting 45 is from New Zealand's Bill & Boyd; the beginning of a very successful recording career in Australia. Rock 'n' Roll revival is certainly a theme with entries from Johnny Devlin, Merv Benton, Johnny Chester, and Johnny O'Keefe with "Shout Parts 1 & 2", a revival of his 1959 hit, this time with the backing of "Australia's Beatles", The Rajahs! And a chart entry from another under-recorded female singer, April Byron who was soon to come under the patronage of The Bee Gees. Enjoy the sounds of mid-1964.
So many reasons! G Major, phrasing and tutorials online. More than enough going on to maintain our interest as we learn new songs going forward. This is a good choice. Push the envelope, dear students. Thank you for listening.

For this Instalment our Lockaway is Dominic Simpson, a ‘node within the leftfield London music scene’ and native Hackneyite chronicling matters at the heart of the ‘Crapital’. Dominic wields guitar, piano and clarinet on stage, battling with Theresa May speeches cut-up into hypnotic mantras under the moniker Dream Maps. Dominic’s approach to his bunker ration strings together several musical epiphanies which he sees as characterising his life before the apocalypse, featuring a visionary composer who assembled an orchestra of 100 guitarists, a sonic butcher who transforms Muzak hits into macabre Frankenstein dirges and a 30 strong band conjuring the spirit of Ancient Sudan through a Prog Rock lens.
