Is the Ethereum roadmap… off track? Have we lost the plot? Are L2s running interference, intercepting all the users, transactions, and value from reaching the L1? And if all of this is real, and not just FUD, what should we do about it? We have Max Resnick on the show today, he's an Ethereum researcher working at Special Mechanism Group and he's got some opinions that are contrary to what is typically found out of the Ethereum Rollup Centric Roadmap.  Max explains why Ethereum is breaking down on its vision for bringing the world onto decentralized, censorship resistant, permissionless blockchains, and suggests possible alternative directions. ------

Based rollups are a really interesting design because they offer MEV to the L1 (which acts as the sequencer) rather than accruing the value to the rollup operator. This has been the biggest argument for L2s being parasitic to the L1. We think based rollups change that for the better. The core issue still remains, however: Current rollups likely will not opt-in to based designs because they will lose their sequencer revenue and entire business model would have to undergo a dramatic shift. Today, we're diving into the world of Gwyneth, a rollup solution aimed at solving some of the most pressing issues in DeFi—fragmented liquidity, scalability, and user experience. Designed with synchronous composability at its core (being based), Gwyneth brings a new level of efficiency to L2s making it feel like a single chain even as multiple chains work together under the hood. We'll also take a closer look at the technical improvements that Gwyneth brings to the table, including real-time proving, modular sequencing, and a unique approach to block building. Worst investment everIn early 2000, Mark was trying to get started with a retirement account when a colleague told him about a stock they had invested in. The colleague raved about how the stock had skyrocketed, making them a lot of money. The company was called Commerce One. Mark didn't know anything about it and didn't do any research. He just took his colleague's advice and invested $4,000. Before long, the value fell by about 50%. Another one of Mark's worst investments is living in denial about his ADHD diagnosis. He has struggled with attentiveness, especially at work in meetings and conferences. He would often blame and shame himself for not paying attention. He regrets not doing something about it 20 years ago. Lessons learnedBe careful when choosing individual stocks. Let professionals do it for you through diversified mutual funds or index funds.
