Temba, his arms wide!We have a new episode of Casual Trek for you and it's about language, no, not naughty language, although we're both British so we're VERY good at that. We're talking about times where language and communication have been important Trekian themes! First, everyone on Deep Space Nine is talking gibberish instead of Technobabble in ‘Babel' while in Strange New Worlds, Uhura's first away mission goes horribly awry when she has to communicate with the ‘Children of the Comet' and finally, we deal with one of The Next Generation's best episodes as we try and find out just who is Darmok and why was he at Tanagra in ‘Darmok.' Temba, at rest! Episodes Discussed: Babel (09:42), Children of the Comet (31:17) and Darmok (52:57)Talking Points Include: Catch-22, Sakamoto Days and the slow weebification of Charlie, Love Hurts, Sean Austin, is this Chief O'Brien's first worst day, Babel originally being a TNG script and how it would not have been as fun, the Odo/Quark dynamic, Kira having no time for BS, how irritating it must be to play a Vulcan sometimes, Sam Kirk is not this show's Kenny, does Strange New Worlds disregard Roddenberry's attitude to God? Uhura and Spock being friends, Miles misses Hemmer, when Spock thinks you ****ed up… you ****ed up! Troi's rather slim resume, Miles suffers the Darmok problem with UK-Specific references in the US, ‘Darmok' might be Star Trek's clearest descent into allegory, How ‘Darmok' inspired the scariest episode of Doctor Who, Picard's new jacket, Pedant's Corner: The Chuckle Brothers were a slapstick comedy duo popular on British children's telly. To me. To you. Rolf Harris was also a popular children's entertainer on British TV… until he was convicted on many charges of SA towards minors.Miles guesting on Famicom Dojo as Sean plays ‘Out of This World.' https://www.youtube.com/live/Ucv-hoyVmPU?si=hx_tb9k9qVCqZBMr

L'éléphant : le colosse qui jouait de la trompette Avtorji literarnih del: Isabelle Collombat (1, 5, 6, 7), Alice Butaud (2,3,10) in Gwénael David (4,8,9) Avtorica prevoda: Anamarija Štukelj Cusma Režiserka: Saška Rakef Igralca: Blaž Šef in Anja Novak Mojstri zvoka: Urban Gruden (1-10), Sonja Strenar (6,7,9), Matjaž Miklič (10) Urednik oddaj: Alen Jelen Odgovorna urednica: Ingrid Kovač Brus Lektorice: Tinka Kos, Katarina Minatti, Saša Grčman Fonetičarka: Mateja Juričan Serija Zverinice (v izvirniku Bestioles) je nastala v koprodukciji s francoskim javnim radiem Radio France, ki jo je pripravil v sodelovanju z Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (francoski Narodni prirodoslovni muzej v Parizu). Jimmie; His pants wet. A classic sci-fi premise with a fantastic performance from one of Star Trek's most storied captains (if by storied, you mean twice died to save the white Captain.) Picard is beamed to surface of a planet with the Tamarian captain who only speaks in idiomatic references to myth. The universal translator doesn't jibe with space metaphors. But by uniting their confusion as one, Picard and the Tamarian overcome a phase beast and their frustration to learn one another's tongue. It's a wonderful episode for which our panel and the Trek community at large has an everlasting fondness. Temba, his arms wide! 27 April is marked Freedom Day in South Africa. The Temba Bavuma Foundation will be rolling up their sleeves and doing good work at the Frida Hartley Shelter. The Proteas captain and Founder of the Foundation, Temba Bavuma will join us on the line for a quick chat about this and what Freedom means to him.
Reading an end of season press release from Cricket South Africa recently, I stumbled upon Aiden Markram talking about the current Proteas' “journey.” To my knowledge, no-one has picked up on the journey (shouldn't that be tagged along on the journey?) possibly because Markram's juicy quote was buried so deep in the release that you'd need an electron microscope to see it. Foolishly perhaps, I read the release to the end, doing what tens of other journalists never do, and discovering that like every sportsman and woman on the planet, Aiden and the Proteas have clambered aboard the journey train. Maybe they've simply clambered on a train upon which to journey, however, for, as we all know, sportsmen and women the world over are going on journeys. All the time. So much packing and preparation, so many departures, so many journeys. But so, so few destinations.Who doesn't like the idea of a journey? We all do. I do. I like the idea of a journey, I really do. I'm on a journey right now – my journey – my journey to grab listeners from my basement squat in the teeming, overcrowded tenement of contemporary podcasting, my journey to earn a crust from giving you, the lucky listener, free original content for weeks without end as I genuflect like a desperate heathen before the GREAT GOD OF THE ALGORITHM. I hope you, too, are on a journey – your journey – to find enlightenment, or happiness, or wealth, or satisfaction or that ever-elusive concept, “the good”. Maybe it's wrong to assume that you're on a journey, maybe you're just unstacking the dishwasher. Maybe you're folding children's clothes, or lifting weights in the gym, or worrying absent-mindedly why he – or she – isn't texting you and why this is so, and what might be wrong? If you're not worrying about what's wrong, you're probably worrying about what's not quite right because that's how we live nowadays, in a perpetual twilight of what's not quite right. Maybe you're walking somewhere, or jogging, or listening to this in the car, in which case it is a journey, but not that kind of journey. It's not a journey-journey, it's simply a journey. Maybe your journey is a journey for meaning, in which case I might just be able to help you because you've stumbled upon this podcast, which is, in its way, a journey for meaning. This is good because it means that our journeys have intersected, the lines of our two journeys for meaning have crossed just outside the station, at least for now. So let's take this journey together.Although we're all on our different journeys, sometimes meeting, sometimes missing, it is important to say at this juncture – and just in case I haven't made it completely clear – that the word “journey”, as in a quest or voyage to somewhere new, is one of the great clichés of contemporary sport. Everyone in the sporting world, irrespective of sport, irrespective of gender, is on some damn journey, as though the journey itself confers something special and magic and, even, spellbinding. On the upside, at least it's more concrete than the frustratingly vague reliance on the word, process, or variations thereof, such as processes, which used to be the dominant cliché, the Manchester City or Usain Bolt of sport clichés, of three, four, five years ago. Often people back then used to talk about sticking to their processes, as if by clutching processes tight everything would be okay, like they were a little pDonate to The Luke Alfred Show on Patreon.Get full written episodes of the show a day early on Substack.Check out The Luke Alfred Show on YouTube and Facebook.

Dwa dni przed wykładem, tj. 5 marca na szczycie Broad Peak (8047 m n.p.m.) stanęli Maciej Berbeka, Adam Bielecki, Artur Małek i Tomasz Kowalski. Mateusz Zabłocki opowiedział o skomplikowanych przygotowaniach do wyprawy i niezbędnym ekwipunku. Racial bias is deeply embedded in South African cricket. White players are assumed to be skilled even when they clearly are not. Black players, which here includes anyone who would not have been classified ‘white' during the Apartheid, including players of Indian origin, have to prove their merit — and are not always assumed to have it even when they do.

It's February 19, 2022. Temba 'kidifies' headlines about the African American community. MultimediaLIVE — Temba Bavuma forced his way back into the Proteas Test team after scoring runs, 180 of them in one innings, for the Lions in the domestic 4-Day competition. But his omission from the SA team that is locked in a four-Test battle with England caused a massive racial storm on social media and members of the public. In this special episode, we look at the reasons why Temba Bavuma, the first black African batsman to score a hundred for South Africa, is still the only one shining the torch for black batsmen. We also explore reasons why there aren't enough black batsmen at various levels of cricket. Is it a burden to be a black batsman in this country? Has it all become too much for Bavuma to bear? Listen to SportsLIVE podcast host Sbu Mjikeliso and sports writer Daniel Gallan, who've both written extensively on the subject, unpack these issues.

ZASA Magazine — We first came across her early 2017 and fell in love with her music right away. We went on to publish her bio in the Zed Artist Profiles column of the April 2017 edition and have followed her career since. She was based in the UK at the time and you could tell her influences were more western than they were rooted in Africa but her progression has seen her embrace Mother Zambia which shows in her more recent projects. She has gone on to produce music with the likes of Slap Dee and is currently in Zambia working on her next album as well as doing some charity work around children and female empowerment. We thought it was about time we sat her down and talked about her journey as well as find out what her plans are, especially with a new album in the works this year. More on zasamag.com

Temba Spirit shares the importance of honoring and loving ourselves as well as those around us every day. He captures the essence of our gentle spirits when we are born and the crucial need to continue to live in this type of love consistently.
Temba Spirit talks about how he reclaimed the innocence of his childhood, even after leading a life of poverty, neglect, violence, and crime by association. His decision to seek another way took place while doing time at Rikers Island. A decade later, Temba talks about how there are other kinds of bondage that are even worse—that your dream wants to be free!
