Season 24 Episode #73 Bobby Schindler and Shaun J BoyceThis episode with Eddie Gonzalez delves into his career and experiences as the director and chief business officer of the Atlanta Open, reflecting on his love for tennis and the tournament's growth. A few key points include his leadership journey, his passion for building the event over 10 years, and the challenges involved in running a high-level ATP Tour event.Summary:- **Eddie's Background**: Eddie grew up in Rome, Georgia, played high-level junior tennis, and competed for NC State University. His career in sports started at Athlon Sports before he returned to tennis, leading the Atlanta Open for a decade.- **Career Highlights**: Eddie discussed how he elevated the Atlanta Open, making it an annual sports and entertainment event, bringing in crowds and enhancing the experience for fans. One of his proudest achievements was building the event from a temporary parking lot to a "party where a tennis match breaks out." - **Challenges**: Eddie highlighted the difficulties of hosting an outdoor event in the summer heat and dealing with unpredictable weather. For instance, the 2023 finals didn't conclude until 3 a.m. due to rain delays. Despite these challenges, the event maintained strong attendance.- **Impact on American Tennis**: Eddie is proud of the Atlanta Open's role in giving rising American players like Taylor Fritz, Francis Tiafoe, and Christopher Eubanks their first big opportunities. He also emphasized the importance of fostering local tennis talent and creating future champions.- **Legacy**: As the ATP's calendar restructuring led to the discontinuation of the Atlanta Open, Eddie expressed pride in leaving behind a successful, well-loved event, even though it was a casualty of the tour's evolution.- **Personal Life**: Eddie shared personal insights, such as his daughter's career as a social media influencer and his son being drafted into professional baseball. He enjoys supporting their careers and traveling with them.Notable Quotes from Eddie Gonzalez:1. **On building the Atlanta Open**: - "You want to leave things better than you found them, and I'm very proud of the 10 years of building it every year to be bigger and better."2. **On the tournament experience**: - "Our philosophy was to create a party where a tennis match breaks out. We knew we weren't going to get Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic, so we had to make it about the experience."3. **On aging and tennis**: - "You don't stop playing tennis because you get old, you get old because you stop playing tennis."4. **On fostering young American talent**: - "It's rewarding to see young Americans like Taylor Fritz and Chris Eubanks who got their first shots in Atlanta. That's the future of American tennis."5. **On maintaining composure**: - "We ran the tournament like ducks on a pond: calm on the surface but paddling furiously underneath."These highlights and quotes encapsulate Eddie's passion for tennis, leadership, and making a lasting impact on the sport in America.YouTube Replay: https://youtu.be/XVLUhdrlE8wShaun Boyce USPTA: shaun@tennisforchildren.comhttps://tennisforchildren.com/

Season 24 Episode #70 Bobby Schindler and Shaun J BoyceIn this episode, we talk to Jeff Chandley who is the Director of Tennis at the historic Atlanta Athletic Club. The conversation with Jeff Chandley offers insight into his journey, career philosophy, and key achievements in the tennis industry. Here are some highlighted statements and insights:1. **Career Path**: Jeff Chandley has a diverse background as Director of Tennis at multiple prestigious clubs, including Atlanta Athletic Club and The Landings Club. His career began unexpectedly, as he transitioned from football to tennis in high school, later playing at college level despite starting late in tennis.2. **Mentorship from Peter Van Lingen**: Chandley emphasizes how impactful his time was under South African tennis legend Peter Van Lingen, noting that Peter taught modern tennis techniques long before they became mainstream. Chandley credits this mentorship as shaping his teaching and business approach in tennis.3. **Business Mindset**: Chandley reveals his focus on learning the business side of tennis early in his career. He humorously describes learning accounting for a country club, a completely different world from balancing his personal checkbook. This has shaped his career, with a focus on both tennis instruction and managing the business side of club tennis.4. **Emphasis on Club Culture**: Chandley repeatedly stresses the importance of culture in running a successful tennis program. At Atlanta Athletic Club, he says, they've built a community and a sense of belonging for both staff and members, which he believes is central to their success. He highlights creating a fun, inclusive atmosphere where people enjoy coming to work.5. **Four Pillars of Success**: Chandley identifies his personal management framework, which includes: - **Image Enhancement**: Maintaining a strong external and internal image. - **Instruction**: Specializing in and improving coaching abilities. - **Maintenance**: Keeping facilities in top condition. - **Customer Service**: Ensuring a high level of care and attention to members.6. **Transition to Racket Sports**: Chandley noted the growing trend of pickleball and his own certification as a Pickleball Pro. This reflects a broader industry shift from strictly tennis to a more inclusive focus on racket sports.7. **Work-Life Balance Challenge**: He finds the concept of "work-life balance" frustrating, particularly in the context of younger generations. Chandley emphasizes that dedication beyond the standard 40-hour workweek is often necessary to succeed in a high-demand environment like a private club.8. **Mentorship and Leadership**: Chandley is committed to mentoring younger pros, offering them opportunities to grow within the club and the industry. He stresses that his success comes from hiring individuals with a customer service mentality and a passion for learning, rather than just technical skills. These insights provide a comprehensive understanding of Jeff Chandley's professional journey, his leadership style, and the importance he places on both tennis instruction and club management.YouTube Replay: https://youtu.be/IdB4OwHCglEShaun Boyce USPTA: shaun@tennisforchildren.comhttps://tennisforchildren.com/

In this episode, Bobby Schindler, brother of Terri Schiavo, recalls the challenging events that led to his sister Terri's untimely death. In 1990, at the age of 26, Terri suffered a mysterious cardio-respiratory arrest for which no cause has ever been determined. Terri was placed on a ventilator, but was soon able to breathe on her own and maintain vital function. She remained in a severely compromised neurological state and was provided a PEG tube to ensure the safe delivery of nourishment and hydration. On March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of marked dehydration following more than 13 days without nutrition or hydration under the order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of the Pinellas-Pasco’s Sixth Judicial Court. Terri was 41.This is the true story of Terri Schiavo.
Bobby Schindler is the president of the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network, and he joins me this week to discuss the story of Michael Hickson, the dangers of the quality-of-life ethic, and the current state of disability rights in our culture.

Bobby Schindler & David Onysko In part one: Bobby who is President of Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, says that there is an increase in contact to his organization by families fighting to keep their loved ones alive after a aggressive push by pro death advocates across the nation. In part two: David who is Founder of The Man in the Shroud, will present at the 2020 Bringing America Back to Life Convention and during this interview he highlights some of the fascinating facts
Bobby Schindler, President of the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, Senior Fellow at Americans United for Life, and Associate Scholar at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, fought alongside his family for the life of Terri Schiavo, his sister, for more than a decade. Today, the name "Terri Schiavo" is seared into the national memory as a face of both the right-to-life and right-to-die movements, but many are now too young to remember her story. Bobby joins Tom Shakely and Noah Brandt to reflect on the Terri's witness to the human right to life, and share his experiences over the course of 15 years as an advocate for patients and families confronting denial of basic care and how we can foster a more life-affirming approach to caring for our most vulnerable brothers and sisters.
Jonathon Van Maren speaks with Bobby Schindler, brother of Terri Schiavo, on this week's episode of The Van Maren Show. Schindler advocates for the medically vulnerable and is a full-time advocate, speaker, and writer. He's a member of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities and his writings have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Time Magazine, and many more. Schindler starts the conversation sharing what it was like to grow up with Terri; sharing the real happiness before the tragic story of her death. “Terri was always one that was always laughing in the house, whether it was at my dad's corny jokes or just whatever.” It wasn't long after the entire Schindler family relocated to Florida that things started to deteriorate. And then on February 25, 1990, Terri collapsed while home alone with Michael and Schindler was called by his dad to go check on her. Schindler then shares what was happening in the weeks and months following the initial collapse. Going quickly from the few months after the collapse, during which time they saw Terri improve, Schindler skips ahead to eight years later when Michael Schiavo really took the legal matters into his own hands and pushed to have Terri's feeding tube removed, despite the fact that she was not considered to be in a “vegetative state.” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In this episode Brian interviews several stellar individuals in the Right to Life movement at the 2017 National Right to Life convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also has an in-depth analysis of the Charlie Gard story and why it is significant in an era of socialized medicine. Finally, “Wordsworth” examines a new concept in medical ethics “futile care,”and what it really means. Wesley J. Smith discusses his new book: Culture of Death: The Age of Do Harm Medicine, and how medical ethics has now been inverted. The average individual who does not understand this change will be at great risk when they are subject to the whims of a medical situation. Bobby Schindler discusses his work on behalf of medically vulnerable individuals who are in danger of being killed in the same manner as his sister, Terri Schiavo. Brian goes into greater depth regarding the Charlie Gard case, where parents who are willing and able to pay for a treatment to help their son live are prohibited from doing so by the British health service. The British health service has proven itself inadequate in addressing truly serious cutting-edge medicine. Even though Charlie’s parents have raised the funds to send him to the United States, the British National Health Service insisted they have the authority to decide what happens to Charlie, and their intention was that he should, “die with dignity.” Dignity is the adjective most commonly used when someone who wants you dead desires to sell the method of killing. It is a word that has come to mean whatever the speaker intends. ”Wordsworth" examines a popular new adjective in medical ethics, “futile”. The adjective implied refers to the care provided to the patient, but in many ethical settings the adjective is actually being applied to the human being in someone’s personal judgment of the value of their ongoing life. “Futile care”, is a phrase regularly used to intentionally deny all food and water thus ending the life of someone who is not actually terminal.

We've got an unaired episode that was never published on YouTube for technical reasons that we recently resolved. Join the discussion at http://ProLifePodcast.net/185. 00:29 Can you give us a brief overview of your sister Terri's story? 04:18 Did Michael wait 30-45 minutes after Terri's collapse before calling 911? 05:27 Can you define "persistent vegetative state" for us, and whether you believe Terri was in a persistent vegetative state? 06:53 Is there an objective definition of PVS? 08:11 Did Terri fit that medical criteria for PVS? 09:04 What progress did Terri show in the first two years of rehab before Michael took her off of rehab? 10:15 What happened to the trust fund that was earmarked for Terri's therapy? 12:25 Why do you think that Michael refused to divorce Terri after moving in with Jody Centonze? 13:02 What is it that the medical professionals believed whom Judge Greer refused to allow to testify? 14:37 Is there anyway Terri could have survived without the feeding tube? 15:26 Do you know anything about recent research to determine the extent of someones brain injury? 17:01 Do you have any how often people are starved to death who are not in a PVS state? 18:30 What is the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network doing now, six years later? 19:49 What do you believe is still the number one misconception about Terri? 21:36 What kind of legislation could be passed that would prevent Terri's situation happening again? 22:21 How will the new healthcare law impact people with situations similar to Terri's? 23:36 Would you be in favor of legislation that would sever spousal rights on the behalf of an incapacitated person in the event where there's a clear conflict of interest, such as when the spouse acting as guardian begins a new relationship? 24:47 What would you say to people who try to frame Terri's situation as a "right-to-die issue?" 26:02 So the clear distinction for you is that food and water is basic care and that ventilators and respirators are medical care that in some cases can be stopped?
