Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 553 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - The state of the pedal industry in 2025 and are guitars getting more expensive? Blake has another special hat and Richard has Black Sabbath FOMO before making some eggs-asperatingly poor jokes and discussing coffee. Josh Scott of JHS has written a great substack article about the state of the pedal industry and Richard misses the point as he shows off his ink pens. The guys then talk about the article and the guys chat about how they see the state of the market currently. Richard predicts that the prices of guitars are gong to climb up and Brian struggles to stay awake so starts to look at the all new cast iron Plumes and Blumes. JHS have released an Oil Can delay too and Richard learns about the original mechanical unit and his mind is audibly blown. Richard also causes Brian to foam at the mouth before discussing what he thinks the future for aging podcasters may be. Brian confesses to some incredibly bizarre nocturnal activities and Richard attempts to use science before Blake gets into a fight. Does the perfect guitar neck exist? The guys asks the question and then some bizarre other questions. The BOSS Katana go went but is now back...Richard's private stash, Cast Iron Pedals, The Wampler Egg Carton Delay, Brian Setzer, Gentleman's relish...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show
Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian and Richard are back for Episode 543 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Is Rock music ready for the nursing home? Brian struggles with percentages but it's ok - Richard is telepathic - and they are sadly without 1/3rd of the regular crew as Blake is unwell thanks to those pesky kids! Brian tells us about some strange customs in the Wampler household and Richard thinks he's a comedian. He also has some nice things to say about his missing brother in arms. Brian inspires a new mega business idea. Is Rock music as we know it dead or dying? The guys ponder this because there are worrying signs and Richard thinks the time might be up for this period of wonderful guitar based music. He also tells tales of British school life and Brian is amused. One of Richard's favourite musicians has retired and he reflects on that.Richard has ordered a new breadboard and a new pedal kit and he is excited as Brian also finds some new toys. The guys talk about their travel guitar arrangements and Richard is impressed with Brian's choice of serenade. Richard is off to Crimson guitars to learn how to break his guitars more and he is pretty excited. Behringer have lit the blue touch-paper with their clone strategy and came out with some fighting talk so the guys chat a little about this. Body sanitizer, Stay Tuned, Boss Katana, Indiana Jones and the mysterious rhombus, Cookie rant, UFOs...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show
From CHRISTINA AGUILERA and 2PAC to SISQÓ and FRANK OCEAN, guitarist/composer MICHAEL “FISH” HERRING can be heard with a wide range of superstars. On this episode, we “land the ‘copter” on Fish's front lawn, head into his amazing home studio, plug in some Yamaha guitars (Fish into a Line 6 Helix running though studio monitors, yours truly into a BOSS Katana combo), and do a little jamming. And, of course, we dive deep into what it takes to become one of the most in-demand lead guitarists in the challenging Los Angeles music scene. Bonus: Fish reveals who is the better billiards player — him, or JONI MITCHELL. This episode is presented by GUITAR PLAYER MAGAZINE. Enjoy!

Send Steve a Text MessageEver wondered about the sonic intricacies of guitar amps and how they shape the music that moves you? In our latest episode, we crank up the volume on everything from the warm glow of tube amps to the cutting-edge versatility of their digital counterparts. Join me as we dissect the anatomy of an amplifier, including the preamp, power amp, and cabinet, and share how my personal journey with varying amp wattage has informed my choices for different playing environments. The debate between the authenticity of real amps and the convenience of digital models gets loud and clear here. We'll compare the tonal evolution of tube amps at high volumes to the consistent output of digital amps, discuss portability champions like the Positive Grid Spark, and delve into the world of Kemper and Axe-Fx, where speaker selection is crucial. Maintenance, costs, and the long-term love affair with the unique character of tube amps versus the pragmatic, multifaceted digital options also take center stage. To wrap it all up, you'll get a backstage pass to the future of guitar tone. From the seamless integration of effects in units like the Boss Katana to the game-changing capabilities of guitar plugins and VSTs, we're plugging into a world where the perfect sound is just a click away. Whether you're a bedroom rocker or a stage veteran, this episode is your ticket to discovering the amplifier that'll make your six-string sing. Being that the venue had a Boss Katana amp, I decided to leave the Strymon Iridium at home, and try it out. I also took a mid-70s Cry Baby Wah, and my 2008 R9 Les Paul to have more tonal offerings than just my '57 Esquire & my grab-and-go pedalboard. I also had a crazy adventure trying to visit J & E Guitars. I found out they were closed due to a robbery committed during business hours. Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Blake is having issues with his computer peripherals so has jumped onto the TikTok train temporarily and so the guys open up the conversation with more algorithm analysis and other random TikTalkery, This then develops into a conversation about Blake's new camera and cameras in general before the guys figure out this is a guitar podcast. Well, kinda. Our buddy Josh at JHS has launched a new pedal and he sent one to Brian and Brian is very happy about this so the guys dig in and Blake educates Brian about how to get the best out of it. This leads the guys into a chat about gain pedals and stacking and Richard tells us about how he likes to save something back before Brian admits to having a crush on Ryan Burke's beard.Brian has bought himself a new amp, a BOSS Katana head, which he thought he bought before but was mistaken. He gives his views and expertise on it so far but hasn't quite figured exactly what he feels about it yet. Richard chimes in with some of the extended features he should check out and waxes lyrical about the software functionality. The Green Blob, Loggerman jackets, the return of the methedestrians, Tubescreamers, Tandoori chicken...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)DIY mods:https://modyourownpedal.com/collections/booksFind us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)

On this episode of the Girl Boss series, I speak with Katana on moving to a new city, goal setting, and focusing on one thing at a time.
This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/VdlWBu3jrIA You want a wet/dry rig, but you’re not sure what amps will work well together? And what about power, gain, phase and digital latency? We answer all that and more…. Life too short for long YouTube videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below. Welcome to the show! In this episode, Dan and I return to one of our favourite subjects: wet/dry guitar rigs. Definitions differ as to what wet/dry actually means, but for us it is this: First off, you are using two separate guitar amplifiers…Compression, boost, EQ, wah, overdrive, fuzz (all the ‘dry’ effects) go to both amps.Modulation, delay and reverb (all the ‘wet’ effects) only goes to one amp: we call this the wet amp. The amp that doesn’t get the ‘wet’ effects we call the dry amp. It’s pretty simple in theory, but you need to be aware of a bunch of things when choosing your two amps such as volume, gain, phase and (related to phase), digital latency. There’s EQ as well of course, but that’s really a matter of personal preference and taste so we're not getting into it here. In this video we use a fairly standard signal path…Guitar, overdrives, modulation, delay, reverb, tremolo, amps Viewed as the wet/dry signal path it’s this (sorry we can’t draw a diagram here, but let’s try text…)DRY SIDE: Guitar, overdrives, SPLIT (Humdinger) to Amp 1WET SIDE: Guitar, overdrives, SPLIT (Humdinger), chorus, delay, reverb, trem to Amp 2 Hopefully that explains it! We challenge each other to put together a whole guitar rig on a small budget – one guitar, one amp and three pedals on a board. What do we choose and who wins? Life too short for long YouTube videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below. Yep, it’s come to this. We’ve finally succumbed to the ravages of clickbait-driven populist drivel… and made a very long, discursive, in-depth video again. Ha! But at least this one features some cheap gear for a change. ‘Don’t you mean ‘affordable’, Michael?’ No, we mean CHEAP. Cheaper than chips. The cheapest chips in town. Erm, and some slightly less cheap and much tastier ones too. There are some exceptional sounds today, and some to which we take exception. There’s a lot of hiss, a bit of pish but I’ve run out of alliterative ideas so I’ll finish with tish, fish McNish.Come on, make a wish. Final scores on the doors were:Mick’s rig: £1,034 – not £900 like he said at the end of the videoDan’s rig: £466 – not £360 like he said at the end of the video. Enjoy the episode! This week the guys get deep and personal, discussing some of the mental health issues that can affect musicians and their guitar playing identities. Beebs candidly shares his experience of the last several years dealing with depression and anxiety and how it relates to his musical history and guitar playing. He also reflects on how he met and got involved with TGH boys, falling back in love with guitar and how after strongly resisting for 13 years, he finally caught the jazz bug. They also talk about confidence, ego, the importance of community, musical friendships and seeing people IRL, not just online. Other stuff: Dan has joined the Boss Katana club, and they also tweak the show format rounding off answering listener questions from Instagram.
