POPULARITY
Our guest on "Exclusively Van Halen" is none other than the Van Halen tone king himself — Jim Gaustad! A lifelong disciple of the Brown Sound, Jim's obsession with Eddie Van Halen's tone began the moment he dropped the needle on Van Halen I. From gigging at age 12 to reverse-engineering Marshalls and launching the Brown Sound Quest YouTube channel, Jim has spent a lifetime chasing that iconic tone. Now, Jim Gaustad & IK Multimedia bring that passion and precision to “The Brown Sound 78/79,” the first in a limited series of three TONEX Signature Collections. This set dives deep into the explosive sonic DNA of Van Halen I and II — with 50 meticulously modeled tones that feel like the records.
Hello dear listener, Welcome to another episode of Guitar Nerds! This week, I'm joined by a new guest host, Maarten Cox. He's been a longtime listener, and someone I've kept in contact with to chat all things about guitar! Recently, we've been talking about how there is very little European mainland representation in guitar podcasting, so we thought we'd have Maarten on to chat gear from a self professed bedroom player and home gear collector. This week we sort of talk about home studio setups, but it's more of a 'get to know you' with a spattering of Tonex and BOSS discussion. Don't forget to join the Guitar Nerds Discord channel: https://discord.gg/7qCsAM6a Enter the new Great Eastern FX Co. giveaway on our Instagram, and take advantage of 30% off Neural DSP Plugins with discount code, GUITARNERDS. Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by a very special guest this week for Episode 554 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Session legend Tim Pierce tells us about his gear choices and his amazing career The guys are joined by a very special guest, Tim Pierce, one of the greatest session guitarists of the modern era and an extraordinary teacher. Tim tells us about how he found the perfect work / life balance having spent four decades working with some of the greatest musicians of all time. It would be easier to tell you about the artists he hasn't played with than those he has. Blake asks him about what it's like to be THE guitar guy and Tim breaks down some great recommendations for budget guitars and budget rigs. Brian and he discuss the new breed of modelers and Richard tries to wangle a freebie. Tim has great taste in amplifiers and Richard is very impressed. He also goes a bit fanboy crazy when a certain British band-member is mentioned and Brian has to tell him off before Tim tells us some insanely cool inside track stories. Tim tells us about some of his early gear choices before Brian asks him about his masterclass website and how that took off. It's a fascinating look into how Tim saw the writing on the wall in the music industry and pivoted to fit. You are going to absolutely love this episode - Tim is incredibly generous with his time and very candid with his stories.Child labor can be ethical, Sire, Tonex, Jeff Beck, No Jazz, 80's gear fetishes...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!www.timpierce.comWe are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

Send Steve a Text MessageWhat if the secret to your ultimate live performance lies in the type of amplifier you choose? Join us as we unpack the fascinating world of digital versus tube amplifiers with insights from a lifelong musician who has rocked stages since his teenage years. This episode promises a deep dive into how these amplifiers cater to different settings, with an emphasis on the irreplaceable sensory feedback and psychological benefits that tube amps provide during live performances. We also explore the innovative Synergy amps, celebrated for bridging digital versatility with the authentic warmth of tube sound, allowing musicians to tailor their experiences based on their unique needs and preferences.Embark on a journey through the pros and cons of digital amps like the Kemper, IK Multimedia's ToneX, and Positive Grid's Spark Amp. While digital options offer low maintenance and consistent sound, they can't always replicate the authentic feel of tube amps at higher volumes. Our discussion tackles the evolving landscape of guitar amplification, recognizing the shift in trends as younger guitarists favor digital setups for their simplicity and reliability. Whether you're a staunch tube amp advocate or a digital devotee, this episode provides a comprehensive look at how both technologies coexist and how personal preferences shape the choices musicians make in an ever-evolving music world. Beyonce, Usher, Chris Brown, Ciara: when it comes to recognizing artists whose art and sound prominently reflects the influence of Michael Jackson, it's easy to identify those (and similar) incredible pop/R&B superstars. But you don't often hear names like Kirk Franklin, Kierra Sheard, Tonex, or Deitrick Haddon -- gospel artists who have masterfully woven the influence and sound of Michael Jackson into their art and Black spirituality. Join the Users as we discuss Michael Jackson's early roots in the Black American gospel music tradition and how the sound of Black gospel and spiritual music shaped MJs sound and art -- and how it helped influenced a generation of transformative and consequential Black gospel artists. The Gospel According to Michael is *most especially* a showing of love to the handclapping, foot stompin' members of the #MJFAM! For others, it's a look into a rich tradition that served as a foundational template for the art and career of Michael Jackson. Happy #BHM2024. Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Blake has an anecdote about the Dave Matthews band which he shares with the guys while Richard talks about Threads and an advert that uses the same piece of stock music as this show does. Brian recalls the time he met Hartley Peavey, Blake worries about the provenance of his hat, and Richard talks about the new Jake. E. Lee signature amp from Dave Friedman which he very much loves. How do you set the whammy bar up on your 'Strat? Richard asks the question because he saw a great tip on the interwebs and wants to share it with the listeners, but has to struggle agains certain negative attitudes towards said instrument. Meanwhile, Brian rants in silence while the guys hurl insults at him. The guys then look at the myth of the backplate and whether it is acoustically or electrically significant and Richard is getting into DIY pedals. Brian give his some helpful tips on soldering and breadboarding and general DIY advice. Let's see how much Richard listens to him... Would you rather have a really rubbish amp or a really rubbish guitar? The guys chat about this and about how important the right cab can be while Brian struggles to think of a name for a Wah pedal. Again. Brian also confesses he has a collection of domains and this baffles Richard, who has fallen in love with a new Jazzmaster guitar and is also thinking about the Tone-X pedal. Origin has released a new Klon clone and Brian tells us a bit about the history of the Tumnus Deluxe before he and Richard drop some huge hints about a new release. Peavey on the Teevee, Mon Chat, Ear protection, Steve Lukather, Megadeth disappointment, Steve Martin, Mustard crimes...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Merch and DIY mods:https://modyourownpedal.com/collections/booksFind us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.com-Support the show

Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast! The saga of Brian's use of Chat GPT to avoid him ever having to communicate with other human beings continues, much to the annoyance of Richard, and the guys look at the issue of who owns the intellectual property to AI generated material. There was also an interesting article about the state of the music industry and the revenues of each form which the guys take a look at before tackling the recent Superbowl half time show. Richard has learnt something about the production of a classic 1970's song and it blew his mind, but before he tells Brian and Blake about it, he first has to teach Brian about the song. He also reveals a terrible fact about the band's name before moving on to the gift that keeps giving, the ongoing saga of Pink Floyd and Roger Waters.Marshall are re-releasing a bunch of pedals, including the Bluesbreaker and the Guv'nor, so the guys break down the news and Brian inevitably returns at Chat GPT for answers. Sigh. When will he learn? There was also an early release of the TONEX pedal that gets discussed and leads to some mystery. Call in Scooby! Welcome to https://www.inthekeyofq.com/ (In the Key of Q) the weekly podcast where I chat with inspiring Queer musicians from around the world as they share stories, inspirations and of course their music. A-Natural founded https://www.naturalcitymusic.com/ (Natural City Music) recording label and has himself won two international independent music awards. He's opened for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBrRBZy8OTs (T-Pain) and has written and produced for multiple major artists. In 2020 he released the album, 'https://open.spotify.com/album/3XEhQ8Bfh632eE4bUQaWpf?si=8gAosREPT9SKWdFWKwxjew (Kwame)', a seminal autobiographical piece in 12 tracks. Gospel church music has been hugely influential on A-Natural with the church being very present throughout his upbringing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqDSxuxGx-g (B Slade) (formerly Tonex) is mentioned as a particular inspiration - a "gospel Prince"! Coming into college A-Natural discovered new kinds of music and went into writing and performing his own material. But the task is not easy, and as a friend of his said, musicians sacrificed their lives so that everyone can have a soundtrack to theirs. He faces the challenges of being Black, American, Queer and Christian helped particularly by the book https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conversations_with_God (Conversations with God) by Neale Donald Walsch. He tells us, Faith doesn't just have to be about God. Faith is about understanding that the things that you want for your life can come to pass. If you just believe. After a period of homelessness he gets onto his feet, but is raped on the night he loses his virginity. It's a traumatic memory that has laid dormant until viewing the BBC show 'https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000jyxy (I May Destroy You)' by https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2021/sep/05/michaela-coel-you-ask-the-questions-misfits-personal-manifesto-interview (Michaela Coel) in which the character Kwame experiences a similar experience. He goes on to plea for musicians to give themselves time and space to be creative; to allow themselves to make their art and not just 'content'. He says with sadness, We're demanded to be these caricatures of ourselves. And we get exhausted and burnt out trying to please an algorithm that really doesn't know who we are. In this episode of the Created For You Podcast we have Tifannie Cross also known as Ms.Cross. She is born and raised in San Diego and grew up in Aspotolic Church; singing in various children, youth and adult choirs. A little background about her is that she got her first professional singing opportunity from the artist then known as Tonex (now known as B.Slade), for his live DVD recording of Out The Box. She was 16 at that time and after graduating from the University of San Diego, with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Communications, she decided to pursue music and move to Los Angeles in 2011 and the rest were history. But it all started there. And in February 2018, she released her first single and music video entitled "Simple Love" on YouTube and all digital streaming platforms. Along with singing for major artists, she produces and writes her own music, telling her own stories about her life in hopes that it can help others. Indeed, your passion will lead you to your own destiny and purpose. Want to learn tips on how she gets on where she is now? Let's listen to her journey now.: 0:38 - Talking about the freedom and healing 5:17 - What made you want to become a recording artist? 8:06 - Talking about the life as an artist 9:48 - Describing the music or sounds in 3 words 11:55 - How do you use healing with music? 14:00 - Describing the creative concepts and meaning 19:28 - Advice for people who's having a hard time 23:55 - How's pandemic affected your creativity? 25:08 - Talking about learnings on working with famous artist 28:40 - Talking about the favorite song to perform 29:35 - Describing how it feels to perform 30:08 - Talking about Authentic and Vulnerable 31:120 - Best feedback you received when you are performing 33:32 - What's your next step after pandemic? As a comedian, he's naturally a funny guy. But, he has a very serious side, too. And his unique ability to 'switch it up' will sometimes catch you off-guard. He's one of the few comedians I know who can share intimate moments about his life and family, explain the deeper meaning of 'Ramadan', then turn around and masterfully create a joke about all of it.They say most comedians choose the profession to hide their true pain or to find a way to escape from it. Many of the greats have done it and thrive. Though I've known him for over 20 years, it was refreshing to know another side of Tone X whom I've grown to love and call a friend.
