One World in a New World with Carrie Leaf - Author, Holistic Mindset Coach You'll really want to watch this entire conversation. The amazing bridge between generations and the communication flow is nothing shore of superb. It's proof that when we seek ways to come together and share, there are no age gaps. It will be well worth your time. Please do subscribe, too. Carrie is a bright and lucid thinker, self-aware and very conversant about the observations of self. She begins by sharing her understanding of boundaries and why they are so important in receiving what one wants and deserves in life and relationships. Of course the journey wasn't that easy, knowing the hazards and still engaging them. Learning to inquire and develop emotional maturity allowed her to move into a new location and also have a fresh look at patterns that she now had the opportunity to observe and make better choices. Sometimes it takes decades to come to that awareness. Carrie has some great insights she shares from just being present and observant with the process of personal growth and self-awareness; the trial and tribulations we all experience of learning the dance with self. Progress comes when the personal compassion becomes present. We dive into the nature of relationships being triggers for self-awareness and learning how to navigate the ocean of emotion with a better compass when the self-deprecation patterns subside. We discuss the little things that make a difference and the each person does things differently. We all do what works for us in the moment, and it matters more how we handle the challenges than the challenges themselves. What she noticed in coming out of the pandemic is the nature of folks wanting to slow down, be more responsive and less frantic in their lives. As we move into a interlude on holistic perspective, Carrie shares that she thinks for most people the mind/body connection is pretty easy to get, though when spirit, let alone planet, is involved it begins to get really nebulous for most. All the questions revolving around the inner connection happens in the alone time, even during struggles specifically. What happens, as we both recognize and share, is that over time these growth patterns become more visible or perceivable as to when the process offers a challenge to overcome. The result is there is a willingness to lean in with anticipation of the outcome and growth, even though the experience may not be so pleasant. Zen mentions his favorite process phrase of it becoming 'excruciatingly fun.' The conversation deepens in talking about the recognition of growth patterns and the variety of notions that come along with it. She shares that learning how to write our own story is imperative. Please do listen in for more of your own insights as we share more common circumstances and realizations that help us all to recognize and ascend from our challenges together. Most of us are not aware of our own negative belief systems, but they greatly affect our everyday lives. When we are young, we tend to process events, thoughts, and feelings incorrectly. That processing results in negative beliefs that we bring into our adulthood, where we then have to undo everything we thought we knew. Holistic mindset coach and psychotherapist Carrie Leaf is working to provide her clients with the proper tools to become unstuck in their lives. Her secret? They have all the skills and tools already inside of them. The key is to identify the uncomfortable environment and move to a new space. On this episode of Wickedly Smart Women, Carrie joins Anjel to talk about negative belief systems that convince people they do not have the ability to solve their own problems. They affect our everyday lives, but being able to recognize them and respond to them empowers us to move forward in our personal growth journeys. What You Will Learn What inspired Carrie to go into psychotherapy as a career field Carrie's experience starting her own business and the complicated relationship people have with money How to define uncomfortable environments, how to become conscious of it, and move to a new one Nuances of individuals' mental health journeys Dismantling negative belief systems is key to solving problems Taking small steps can lead to much bigger strides in personal growth Finding the origin of negative belief systems is crucial to reprocessing Our child minds process things incorrectly, causing the negative belief systems that we need to undo as adults Connect with Carrie Leaf Carrie on LinkedIn Carrie on Instagram Carrie on Youtube Resources Carrie Leaf's Website Connect with Anjel B. How to be Your Own TherapistThe greatest struggle of divorce is, hands down, how we manage our brains, and the struggle that we all have with how to meet our own emotional and psychological needs during this season of loss and transition. It is critically important for each of us to become an expert on “therapizing” ourselves. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and author of "Therapize Yourself", Carrie Leaf, admits it is a made-up word, but nonetheless, a word that many people use often, perhaps whimsically, but Carrie's frequency of hearing the word coupled with the felt need for more people to know how to help themselves was so important to Carrie that she wrote a book about it.In its most basic form, we describe “therapizing yourself” as understanding your emotions and paying attention to them like the warning lights on your dashboard, to prevent bigger problems later. Being your own therapist requires getting wise to who you are, what you need, what's important to you, what you like, and exploring until you have a solid grasp on what mind-body-spirit connection involves and how important it is to your mental, physical and emotional well-being. Breaking it down a little bit, we discussed some solid examples of good mindfulness exercises for someone going through a divorce, like journaling, but many more great ideas were tossed around as well. Then we dove into the most important areas of consideration with regard to our bodies during divorce, what to do, not do, eat, and not eat to feel our Best Self so we can better endure the stress and overcome the overwhelm of decision fatigue that leads to great regret.Lastly, we explored how we can best serve our own spiritual needs during divorce by doing just that—exploring. Taking a curious approach to what we actually believe, what feels right and good to us. Maybe it is to visit church for the first time in decades. Maybe it's a decision to step away from the church to truly connect with God and feed that personal relationship. Maybe it is simply to ask ourselves, what do I believe about the world, deity, my purpose? Stay curious and trust your gut to show you what matters most for you right now, and in the long term.Wrapping it all up, we had a frank conversation with the person who might say they can't afford a therapist, or a coach. Here is the hard truth. With something as important as mental health, there is very much an element of “you can't afford not to” that you simply cannot ignore. I would imagine most people would have said at some point that they can't afford a lawyer either, but they figured out a way to make that work because they saw the necessity. They realize the risk of going it alone. Therapy, or visiting the past to understand the present realities, and Coaching, or visualizing the future to create the present possibilities, are risky endeavors when going it alone. The amazing irony of making this investment in therapizing yourself well is that you will most often offset the cost of legal fees, the additional strain on your emotional well-being and even shorten the duration of the divorce process!Managing your brain is job #1 in your divorce.
