Jon Syndergaard with Cerebral Palsey of Northeast Wisconsin (now known simply as CP) swings by to talk about a new event called "Game Changers." This event has been an annual auction for the organization, and this year, they're adding some games and challenges for some additional fun and a learning experience for attendees. Jon also informed us that the programs supported by CP extend beyond just those affected by cerebral palsy. Side note: Jon shares a story of trick or treating back in the day at Reggie White's house. Then we talk about home mortgages with Kristen Ambos from Point Mortgage! Kristen suggests that you shouldn't wait until after the election. If you're interested in buying or selling, start the conversations now! She's been helping people finance their homes for over 20 years and is very knowledgeable about programs others may not even know! DR. JEFFREY N SCHOLTENBSc (Kin), DC, DCCJP, FCCJP, PgCPainIn private practice in Calgary, Canada since 2001, Dr. Scholten is a Fellow and board-certified Diplomate in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures and holds a post-baccalaureate Graduate Certificate in Pain Management.Dr. Scholten is licensed to practice chiropractic in the Province of Alberta, Canada. The Clinic Director and Owner of the Vital Posture Clinic, Dr. Scholten also is an Adjunct Professor at Life Chiropractic College West in Hayward, California, and teaches Diagnosis and Management of Spinal Disorders to senior chiropractic students.read more There's a hierarchy of neurology in the body and you can understand that by understanding really catastrophic situations. If you were to injure your big toe catastrophically, it wouldn't be very good for you, but worse would be catastrophically injuring to the same level, your lower back. The center of your life force is the upper neck. There's a continuum of severity there.Dr. Sholten wanted to be a Firefighter but decided to become an Upper Cervical Chiropractor after he witnessed how it helped his sister with Cerebral palsy. A real reason why he donates so much of my time back to the profession is because the people who came before did stuff that developed the profession to help his family Dr. Scholten says:”.10 years ago, I didn't know things that I know now that the people that I didn't help ten years ago maybe I can help today. When you have a passion for this, and you get to see patients, and you get to interact with them, and you get to see how their lives are changed by doing what we're doing with them, it's very inspiring to me to continue to try to do that better tomorrow.”There is a situation in the neck. Either it is injured, or it is not injured. When somebody is suffering from a health condition, then it's a good thing to look and make sure if you think you've injured your neck, or even if you don't think, why not just check and make sure that your neck is healthy and okay?Dr. Scholten is part of a group of Doctors working tirelessly to expand Upper Cervical Chiropractic worldwide. If you are sick or suffering, please recognize that there is a possibility that somebody in the world can help and so don't give up hope. Try to figure it out and know that we're working to try to make sure that there are more people who can help in the world. The diplomates and the board-certified diplomates have done just a certain different thing, and there's a level of complexity of a case that we are trying to help manage even for our colleagues that are interested in doing their techniques well which are part of the affiliate organizations:ICA Upper Cervical CouncilFind a NUCCA DoctorFind a Blair DoctorFind a top rated DCCJP Diplomate of Chiropractic Craaniocervical Junction ProceduresFind a Doctor who identifies as Upper CervicalYou can find Dr. Scholten here:The Vital Posture ClinicFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/vitalposturehttps://www.facebook.com/jeff.scholtenTo contact Ruth: https://www.blairclinic.comruth@blairclinic.comhttps://www.facebook.com/rutelin

Today my conversation is with Dr. Book Sheehan, a healer whom I have been working with for the past 6 months. Dr. Brook is a chiropractor and Dynamic Systems Analysis Practitioner. Dr. Brook comes from a long line of medical practitioners, however it took her some time to realize this field was also for her.Diagnosed with mild Cerebral Palsey at birth, Dr. Brook ran the story in her head, that she could not be a Doctor. So many of us are patterned to believe we can or cannot do things. Fortunately Dr. Brook found a chiropractor when she was pregnant with her child, who saw light in her and encouraged her to use her innate gifts to get a Chiropractic degree. From healing her migraines to giving birth to a healthy baby, Dr. Brook knew she could also help others, as she had been helped. With a toddler at home, leaving her accounting world, she went to Chiropractic school and furthered her studies with Dynamic Systems Analysis.Dr. Brook shares her story, and enlightens us about what DSA is. Each of us has a unique body that changes on a daily basis. She helps her clients identify what their body needs at any given time. We also get a small exercise that can help us each make our own intuitive choices on what is right for our body.Dr. Brook has helped me immensely on my own healing journey. In the Palestinian refugee camp 'Aida' in Bethlehem a group of women with children with a disability came together to support each other. It started as simple as collecting money to be able to buy cheaper nappies in bulk so they would save money. The mother's group grew out into the Noor (which means light in Arabic) Women Empowerment Group (WEG).In this episode you can learn more about the Palestinian refugee camps in general and Aida camp in Bethlehem in particular. I speak with Rua who runs the Noor Rehabilitation Center, a project by the Noor Women Empowerment Group. They support people with disabilities in different ways, with physical therapy, psychological support and by offering classes for children with learning problems and autism. As the Center is completely dependent on charity, donations are highly appreciated. Meet Joe. Joe is the now-grown-up younger brother to his sister who has Cerebral Palsey. Joe tells us his story of life growing up in a family with a child who has a special need. There were lots of tough days, but great ones too and Joe walks us through both, how he dealt with it and what he learnt that could help other siblings of fizzy kids as well as their parents. And it got me thinking…..there must be lots of siblings of fizzy kids out there who dealt with their own journey. From research, it's clear that for some siblings, growing up with fizzy kids can be traumatic and in some extreme cases it has lead to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. For others, they may take it all in their stride and find their own way through. But one thing's for sure – we mustn't forget them, because they have their own story which is equally as valid and deserves to be heard. Today I am interviewing Rian Smoak. Rian is a Triathlete and has competed in multiple marathons and triathlons, including the Ironman Championships in Hawaii, which is the Mecca of all Ironmans. After Rian crossed the finish line in Kona he knew he needed to provide an opportunity for someone else to have that feeling, who maybe couldn’t finish on their own. This started the partnership with his teammate Bryce. Bryce has Cerebral Palsey and is in a wheelchair. CP makes him unable to walk or use his legs. Through an incredible friendship they are taking the triathlon world by storm. Rian is giving Bryce the opportunity to cross finish lines. Rian and Bryce have competed in multiple races together. This consists of Rian pulling Bryce in a boat on the swim portion, pulling Bryce behind his bike, and pushing him in a race stroller on the run. This Saturday they will be tackling a FULL Ironman at IM BOULDER. You will be so inspired to hear Rian talk about why he knew he had to use his passion for racing to help someone else, how he changed his attitude when it comes to competition. How a friendship formed between two very different but similar men, and how Bryce is teaching us all to be grateful, inspired, and being present is what life is all about it. We also talk about how we can treat others with special needs, and how Bryce can teach us to treat everyone with kindness and respect even if they may seem different. Have you ever met someone you just instantly respect? Someone who, for what could be an unexplainable reason you simply admire for how they show up in the world? That’s the feeling many people I know have when they meet Dr. Alan Christianson. But it wasn’t always that way for Alan. Born with Cerebral Palsey, Alan struggled as a child to do the things most young boys take for granted. But it was his curiosity matched with incredible discipline and consistent effort that took Alan from one of the most ridiculed kids in school to one of the most respected and admired people in Medicine. On this episode of the Mindshare Mindcast - you’ll hear Alan’s journey, and his perspective on how things are changing, and how health professionals need to adapt if they hope to make a bigger, more meaningful impact. Grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage (mine these days is Golden Milk) and enjoy this incredible story that took one teenager from teased to respected for the impact he’s had on tens of thousands of lives.
