This week, we're sharing a conversation with Rose and Crystal, two comrades involved in the struggle against the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a 304 mile, 41 inch in diameter liquified so-called natural gas pipeline with a possible 75 mile extension crossing many delicate waterways, slopes and communities across Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. This project has been off and on under construction since 2018 and was recently forced through at a Federal level as part of the debt ceiling deal by the Biden administration and Democrats. For the hour we talk about the project, the land and water it threatens, the history of resistance and how to get involved in stopping this mess. Just a headsup, there are some audio quality issues throughout the conversation with both guests, so if you have trouble hearing consider checking out the upcoming transcript or meanwhile watching on youtube with the subtitles on. Rashid's Continued Denial of Cancer Treatment Check our show notes for Rashid's message, but as noted last week, incarcerated revolutionary of the Intercommunal Black Panther Party, Kevin Rashid Johnson, is continuing to be denied his rounds of cancert treatment for prostate cancer and has been shoved in a solitary confinement cell without working lights. In the show notes and at our website you'll also find contacts for prison officials in Virginia who need pressure applied to get Rashid the medical treatment he needs, outside of the dungeon they've stuck him in. Comrades: This is Rashid. I need all possible SUSTAINED and immediate support. Here is a statement of my situation. OFFICIALS DEVISE TO STOP MY CANCER TREATMENT AND BLOCK MY COURT ACCESS (2023) By Kevin "Rashid" Johnson I have been going out daily since early April 2023 for radiation treatment at the Medical College of Virginia - a total of 40 treatments - which is ongoing. On 6-29-23 upon returning to the prison from the hospital I was thrown in solitary confinement without explanation, where I remain, without any property including all my legal property. I was put in cells without working lights, where I remain. After constant complaints all I'm being told is I am under investigation, but not by prison investigators. I spoke with a prison investigator, a Lieutenant Spencer, on July 1 when she delivered me legal mail, asking about my status and access to my legal property. She informed me, while her body camera was recording, that I am under investigation by other state prison investigators and the prison was not withholding my legal property. She said any supervisor could get my property for me which was in the property department. Despite this everyone refuses to deliver my belongings and I have been kept in an empty cell ever since. This despite that the VDOC is under court orders to not interfere with my access to and use of my legal property and I have numerous court deadlines and a pending federal civil trial in one of my lawsuits. On 6-30-23 officials refused to allow me to attend my cancer treatment. My numerous written emergency complaints about this went unanswered and unprocessed. On 7-3-23 after days in an empty cell without my things I declined to go for my treatment that one day to try and call the courts to explain and seek intervention. Officials including the warden and assistant warden refused me a legal call and are now refusing all my future cancer treatments. The entire claim to have me under investigation is facially invalid and illegal. As any legal authority recognizes, law enforcement officials must perform investigations consistent with the search and seizure provisions of the 4th Amendment. And any "unlawful search or seizures" renders any evidence gathered therefrom illegal. Both the seizures and searches of me and my property have been unlawful from the outset. My belongings, my legal property in particular was taken and searched outside my presence, which is illegal. Prison officials may only open our legal mail and search our legal property in our presence. That is constitutional law. Here in Virginia we may only be removed from General population and put in solitary if written notice is given within 24 hours. I received no such notice. Weston Smith came out as gay while his dad was serving as a bishop in the Mormon church. His parents were understanding, but navigating life a gay Mormon teen, trying to better understand your sexuality, and remain the “best” Mormon possible is often a recipe for disaster. Weston was no stranger to the turmoil that often comes from being gay and Mormon—a situation, for Wes, that led to serious suicidal ideation. He ultimately decided to serve a mission as an “out” gay Mormon, but even in the mission field the suicidal thoughts persisted. It was there, on his mission, that he resolved to leave the church and live an authentic, happy life. After leaving his mission early and finding complete familial support, Weston has thrived. He recently published a memoir titled, ”This Body of Water”, detailing his journey and what the future looks like for him. A copy of Weston's book is available at WestonSmithBooks.com. Weston's father, Evan, shared his individual story with LatterGayStories as episode 166 on this podcast. #LatterGayStories #ThisBodyofWater #WestonSmith #Love #Honesty

Our body is the threshold where we encounter God. The body of Christ – our bodies together in One Body – is where the world encounters God. This Body, this is where Christ is coming to life in the world right now, and we are a part of that.

Today's Reading: Small Catechism: Sacrament of the Altar, part 1 Daily Lectionary: Deuteronomy 1:37-2:15; Matthew 6:1-15 It is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Small Catechism: Sacrament of the Altar) In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. The Sacrament of the Altar has many different aspects and dimensions and we speak of it using an assortment of names which all reflect these varied purposes. We can never exhaust this great gift which the Lord has left to us to receive, proclaiming His death until He comes again. Every single word we can say about this gift pales in comparison to this main thing: It is the true Body and Blood of Jesus. This is why it is called the Sacrament of the Altar. It is, of course, sometimes called the Lord's Table, which is fine, but to refer to it specifically as it relates to the altar confesses a certain thing: that this is the true Body and Blood of Jesus. An altar is a particular kind of table upon which a sacrificial victim is placed. An altar holds a body. This is the true Body of Jesus upon the altar in your church. This Body gives life. Other food that sustains our earthly life lasts a day or two. Eating the flesh of a cow, chicken, or plants of the earth will keep you alive for a while, but you'll have to eat again tomorrow. The life of the cow is given to you so that you would stay alive. Life really is in the blood. Unlike steaks or hamburgers, delicious as they may be, the Body and Blood of Jesus gives life that does not expire. His life is given to you in this Sacrament which is distributed from an altar. This life is eternal, for Christ is eternal. He is raised from the dead, and in the eating and drinking of His Body and Blood, you, too, are given eternal life, which means that you, too, will be raised from the dead. This is the gift that can only be given in the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, and it is given to you. No representation will do. You need the real thing, because you need real life. Yes, this crucified and risen Jesus Christ, is given to you, bodily, in this Sacrament, that you would rise when He returns. And He will return, but until then, we will continue to rejoice and receive this precious gift of life. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Thy body given for me, O Savior, Thy blood which Thou for me didst shed, these are my life and strength forever, by them my hungry soul is fed. Lord, may Thy body and Thy blood, be for my soul the highest good! ("Thy Body, Given for Me, O Savior" LSB 619, st.1) Audio Reflections Speaker: Pastor Duane Bamsch

Mothers putting their hands in masa. Fingertips tender from holding the stems of chiles and turning tomatillos for salsa verde that I enjoyed as a child. As I coughed through the fumes, my mom would say “vete a jugar”—lgo play.Women bonding, meal prepping over the heat off a four burner stove. Laughing and sipping on cerveza in between breaks to wipe the sweat from their forehead and upper lip. Listening to their conversations was wisdom wrapped in corn leaves savory and spicy, meaty and fruity. All a good balance for how to stay strong amongst the men. The men, sitting outside huddled over a cooler full of cheap intoxicating cans. More water than alcohol. Laughing about their escapades as young men. Reminiscing about the women that got away, too afraid to admit, maybe, they were just too ordinary for their liking, trying to outdrink each other.Acting like fools when 4.4% alcohol went to their heads. All lessons of “masculinity” I want to stay away from. I am invited to the table now. Cerveza to my left, curses rolling off my tongue, hand on knife chopping onions. No children to teach these lessons tobecause I am still unlearning the damages of patriarchy. Still searching for healing in the food that nourished my body as a child. I partake in conversations that bring me closer to my roots. For questions or inquires please about the show please email: info@redefiningfamily.org

You are more than your view of your body. As athletes our bodies come in all shapes and sizes, often times reflecting our sport; whether it be soccer thighs, swimming shoulders, or runners legs. However, our views of our bodies range from body hate to body pride, causing us to view our bodies as tools, or something we can manipulate. Britt and Sam talk about their own struggles with their view of their bodies, and how those views have been redeemed. We want to honor our bodies, in order to perform, not get caught up in how we look. We need to realize we are beautiful! We are made in the image and likeness of God! We are designed as athletic. So grab a friend, take a listen during a workout, and lets learn the true nature of our beauty. Takeaway: Body ScanStart at the top of your head, and body part by body part go down to your toes, and with every body part ask yourself this question, "Do I like this part of my body?" Be honest- it can be tough. But don't stop there. Next but yourself in the Lords presence, and go body part by body part and ask him, "Jesus, do you love this part of my body?" We talk about Kaytlin’s life, her work, the misconceptions people have about sex work, and about fighting back against misogyny. Additional links/info below... We interview NYT best selling author of Meddling Kids, Edgar Cantero. As always, we delve into the nitty gritty of his writing process followed by a conversation about his books: including his first English novel Supernatural Enhancements, and his latest novel This Body's Not Big Enough For Both of Us. Thanks Edgar for joining us at the Brooklyn Public Library recording studio for the interview.
Anna and Surge finally get to the second book of the Fear Street Saga trilogy. Yes it took forever, but it took awhile for the rage to simmer down. The middle book of trilogies tend to be a letdown, but this was really something special. Before they get to Fear Street Saga: The Secret, Surge reviews Edgar Cantero's This Body's Not Big Enough For Both of Us and Anna reviews Flann O'Brien's The Third Policeman.Fear Street Saga: The Secret reviews starts at 18:57.
On the August, 2018 Word By Word: Conversations With Writers, host, Gil Mansergh welcomes the Barcelona-born NY Times bestselling writer Edgar Cantero with his decidedly different new novel This Body’s Not Big Enough For the Both of Us. Edgar writes short stories, screenplays and novels in three languages (Spanish, Catalan, English) that often include women kissing, things exploding and multiple versions of the same event presented like deconstructed Hollywood gangster films from the 1940’s. This Body’s Not Big Enough for Both of Us features a unique individual as the hard-nosed private eye called A.Z. Kimrean. But having just one name is inaccurate. The personalities of two twins occupy the same body—Adrian is the male with a high I.Q. and photographic memory, while Zooey is the creative female who plays musical instruments, writes, paints and is a practicing nymphomaniac. During the show, Gil and Edgar chat about the San Francisco private eye genre, hermaphrodites, desert gangster lairs, nymphomania, wether or not eleven-year-old girls can be femme fatales, the impact velocity of an armor-plated Jaguar sedan, and the course of true love—all of which can be explored more completely in the pages of Edgar Cantero’s new novel.

The post This Body appeared first on Midway Church of Christ.
Jesus took his human flesh from his mother. The Church teaches clearly, and has always taught, that Mary is not divine. She is human, a creature, just like us, created by God. When we come to faith in Jesus, we are adopted so that Jesus is our brother (Heb 2:11) and Mary becomes our mother. Then we are all one in Christ in his mystical Body. This Body, of course (as Paul explicitly teaches), has different parts, different roles, and different gifts. Not everyone does the same thing. Mary has a special role: She is Mother, because she is literally the mother of Jesus’ physical body, and as we are joined to Christ through the Holy Spirit as his mystical Body she becomes our Mother, too.Download Transcript

Shannon Celebi writes speculative fiction in all its weird and wonderful forms. Residing in Ashland, Oregon with her husband, her son, two neurotic cats, and a dilapidated laptop named Persephone, Shannon has two collections of short stories, Small Town Ghosts, and Small Town Demons, available on Amazon at http://amzn.to/19lodTU. Shannon spends every waking hour at her computer, but if she gets a brief moment of respite you can usually find her curled up on the sofa with a kick-ass book and a steaming mug of Joe (Sumatra from Starbucks is her favorite). Shannon also enjoys windsurfing (not), hang-gliding (super not) and long walks on the beach (maybe). Shannon has far too many favorite books to list in this little space, but if she had to pick three, she'd probably say, "This Body by Laurel Doud, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, and Heart Shaped Box' by Joe Hill." Of course, she couldn't pick just three, so she'd also name, The Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin, The Shining by Stephen King, and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn.
Deena Metzger—author, poet, teacher, and the creator of the classic Sounds True audio title This Body, My Life—has an in-depth conversation with Tami Simon. Tami and Deena discuss her work with the ReVisioning Medicine organization and the necessity of listening to the story that chronic illness is trying to tell you about your body. They also talk about creating a “literature of restoration,” intended to promote values other than those pushed by materialistic society and to focus on what is truly life-giving. Finally, Deena expounds on the idea of the coming “Fifth World” and the steps necessary to create it. (62 minutes)
We're touching on a myriad of topics of this week's installment of The Main Course – from pit bulls to trucking! Patrick Martins is joined in the studio by Chef Bret Macris of Rose Water in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Tune into this episode to hear Bret talk about his love of pit bulls, and why the breed is so misunderstood. Find out how Bret feels about GMOs, and why Monsanto is using the technology incorrectly. Patrick and Bret also welcome Bret's wife, Becky Brooks-Macris, into the studio to talk about their past at Campanile in Los Angeles, and how that restaurant inspired their work with local, seasonal food. How does agriculture differ on the West Coast? Later, Patrick checks in with Larry Boukal of Cannonball Express to talk about changing trucker culture. How has CB radio communication defined trucker communication, and how are modern truckers feeding themselves on the road? Find out all of this and more on this week's episode of The Main Course! This program has been sponsored by Fairway Market. Thanks to Pamela Royal for today's break music – ‘This Body'. “It was a real challenge coming from Los Angeles to New York. I was always wondering, ‘When's avocado season?' And we just don't grow them here!” [20:00] “The West Coast is the perfect climate for growing anything you want to grow.” [26:15] — Bret Macris on The Main Course
This Body: (as interpreted by Alberto Roman) I will live from this body This body will come alive now This body will come alive This body will form words now Yes From this body all is with scars with broken bones healed with muscles weak and torn with fat with hair with spit with these tastes with these smells with these sounds with all searching for perfection Let go This body is it this time I will live from this body As if it is the only one I will ever have.
