Martin Lockett is a writer and speaker whose words have impacted thousands of people, even before leaving prison. He served almost 18 years for manslaughter, caused by an accident one New Year's eve where he drank excessively and drove through a stop light, colliding with a car carrying three people. Upon learning that the two people who died that night were volunteers in the drug and alcohol recovery community, Martin chose to honor them by dedicating his life to helping others through addiction counseling and drinking and driving prevention. Martin has made the most of his incarceration by striving to achieve an education and certifications to become a counselor. His list of educational accomplishments includes: Earned his high school GED Earned a Certificate of Human Services from Louisiana State University Graduated from Indiana University: Associate of Arts Graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo: Bachelor of Science in Sociology with honors Graduated from California Coast University: Master of Science in Psychology with honors Became a member of the Delta Epsilon Tau International Honor Society Completed comprehensive substance abuse treatment program Interned and earned state certification as a substance abuse counselor (CADC I) While in prison, he worked in the educational programs for inmates where he: Moderated DUI victim impact panels for three years that included offenders and victims and told his own story Recorded detailed account of the night of the crash for use at various online panels during the pandemic Mentored and trained inmates to become mentors for addictions recovery Tutored inmates through the GED curriculum Counseled inmates through addictions treatment As a writer, Martin has used his time behind bars to write in various forms, all with the intention of helping others with his story and life experiences. Wrote and published two books: his memoir, Prison to Purpose Pipeline and My Prison Life, his collection of essays Published hundreds of blog posts on adjusting to prison life, maximizing opportunities behind bars, the impact of incarceration on families and communities, and current social justice issues Published articles in the Oregonian: Honoring my victims every day (2019);Time to pull back on mandatory minimum sentences (2020); Returning to Portland from prison with a commitment to make amends (2021); and Ex-offenders seeking a fresh start need help finding a home base (2021) While serving his time, Martin Lockett modeled exemplary behavior throughout the entirety of his sentence by not receiving a single disciplinary report. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday launched the National Policy on 5G for Nigeria's Digital Economy. The President during the launch in Abuja counseled all security institutions to power the technology when deployed saying it will enhance security in the country.He said the Federal Government will take full advantage of the opportunities that 5G provides for the economy, security, and well-being of the nation. The President allayed fears over the health safety of 5G, affirming that such issues have been “effectively addressed” in developing a Policy that suits the country.On the benefits of 5G technologies, the President noted it can support virtually every sector of the economy, including enhanced connectivity, improved healthcare, support for education while fostering smart cities, and boosting agriculture, among other advantages. ”It will also support security institutions with real-time communication,” he said at the launch of the policy, which was presented and approved at the Federal Executive Council meeting on September 8 following a robust debate.”5G technology is significantly faster than earlier digital technologies and it provides near real-time communication. This can play a key role in boosting our efforts towards enhancing security across the nation.

First in the series of being counseled by God, todays discussion gets us ready for the deeper content!
Perhaps one of the most difficult truths we must face in our recovery is that we are as powerless over another’s addiction as we are over our own. We may think that because we’ve had a spiritual awakening in our own lives we should be able to persuade another addict to find recovery. But there are limits to what we can do to help another addict. We cannot force them to stop using. We cannot give them the results of the steps or grow for them. We cannot take away their loneliness or their pain. There is nothing we can say to convince a scared addict to surrender the familiar misery of addiction for the frightening uncertainty of recovery. We cannot jump inside other peoples’ skins, shift their goals, or decide for them what is best for them. However, if we refuse to try to exert this power over another’s addiction, we may help them. They may grow if we allow them to face reality, painful though it may be. They may become more productive, by their own definition, as long as we don’t try and do it for them. They can become the authority on their own lives, provided we are only authorities on our own. If we can accept all this, we can become what we were meant to be—carriers of the message, not the addict. ––––=–––– Just for today: I will accept that I am powerless not only over my own addiction but also over everyone else’s. I will carry the message, not the addict.

She asked me if I could give her a ride up to the store and since it was on my way, sure no problem. She talked the entire ten minute trip, showed me page after page of thoughts she had written down. It was almost overwhelming — the sheer amount of creative lunacy she’d come up with. So the next day she was again outside my apartment when I came home and asked if she could come in while she waited for another ride. I was like, umm.. I don’t think so. Then she asked me if she could just wait in my car for her ride. That was fine I guess. When I left later that night she was gone.. whew. So the day after that I came out and she was sitting in my car with her notebooks and I was like, "lady you got to go." Anyways, I wrote this song based on things she said over the course of those three days. I changed the words somewhat so they’d rhyme and added some to flesh it out…but you’ll get the gist. Oh — and I’m not even kidding. Moon is washing out the lunacy. Glowing tides ignite my curiosity. Pocketful of nuts and no currency. Sharpening my knives oh so delicately. Lacerated my tent, HA! I’m hairless. Bliss of accelerated shady awareness. Couldn’t stay awake, a milky shake careless. Counseled my jury in all due fairness. Not a taste of guilt but I’m always suspicious. The trial’s finale: I’m victorious. Heightened my twitch to bitch vicious. Dimming your headlights is nutritious. Insufficient evidence is substantial. I’m Joplin but listen to me sing... Hmm mmm mmm. Hmm mmm mmm. Now then where was I going. Oh yes, insufficient evidence. Insufficient evidence is substantial. Knocked up the president. My visa needs canceled.
