He had this sneaky suspicion that better food and exercise could lead to better outcomes. So, Robb was interested in health at an early age. He was a California State powerlifting champion and got into Thai boxing and jujitsu pretty early on. It led to an undergrad in biochemistry, and then he was looking at either medical school or the research track. In college, Robb was experimenting with his diet. He was tinkering with a low-fat, high-carb vegan diet. Robb ended up making himself very sick. On his vegan diet, Robb was on a blood sugar roller coaster all the time, he had all these gut issues, and his depression was in pretty rough shape. Eventually, he changed over to a paleo diet, and it saved his life. [08:30] Spoiler Alert: Not Everyone Knows What They Are Talking About on The Internet If you're new to eating a raw diet or keto, you need to know the basics. Paleo, keto, and carnivore all revolve around protein. Providing nuance can be confusing when starting a new lifestyle. It's valuable to look at a variety of different people when finding advice on the internet. Learn from people who have had success in their lifestyle and are flexible. Remember, when starting a new lifestyle, it should be simple. [14:45] Are You Having A Hard Time With Keto? Robb Wolf Explains Why A lot of the problems that people experience is just inadequate sodium intake. If you keep your electrolytes up, you can often subside cravings. Keto can be a train wreck if you are a high-intensity athlete. On hard training days, you may or may remain in ketosis despite eating 200 grams of carbohydrate per day. [19:40] It's Critical To Keep Your Electrolytes Up To Help With Sugar Cravings You need adequate sodium. Otherwise, you may suffer from lethargy and fatigue. If you are fairly active and live in a hot, humid environment, your base level of sodium intake needs to be higher than what you probably think. If you're eating a minimally processed diet, then a lot of your food doesn't come with salt. You need to add salt to your diet or make sure salt is included in your foods. If you have an electrolyte imbalance, it can feel like you're hungover. [22:35] Drink LMNT: A Tasty Electrolyte Drink Mix With Everything You Need Get your LMNT electrolytes here:  DrinkLMNT.com/KetoKamp (free sampler pack with all orders)  Robb created an electrolyte drink mix that is formulated to help anyone with their electrolyte needs. They are perfectly suited to folks following a keto, low-carb, or paleo diet. The mixes contain an ideal ratio: 1000 mg sodium 200 mg potassium 60 mg magnesium [27:15] Are You Overdoing It With Electrolytes? Here's What You Need To Know   The first and most common thing if people really overdo electrolytes is disaster pants. If you're attached to the bathroom, then you might be overdoing it on electrolytes. The Japanese culture has traditionally consumed ten to fifteen grams of sodium per day as part of their diet. The average intake in the United States is recommended to be below two grams of sodium. Sodium isn't a potentially dangerous element to the diet. Overall, keto reduces blood pressure in most people, and fasting reduces blood pressure in everyone. [30:55] Scientists Masterfully Crafted Chips To Make Them Hyperpalatable There's this new product called the Dorito Roulette. All of the Doritos are hot, but they vary in heat. Some of them are mildly hot, medium, and then one random chip that will burn your face off hot. The scientists understand palate fatigue and novelty at a super high level. How do you get people to eat more food? Well, you need some sort of randomness of exposure. Also, you need an anticipated but unpredictable, intense experience. Smart scientists understand how the brain works, and they're using it against us to make a big profit. [36:30] Robb Wolf Talks About His 7-Day Carb Test Choose a test carb from the list in Wired To Eat. Or find 50g of effective carbs or another carb source. Get Wired To Eat: https://www.amazon.com/Wired-Eat-Cravings-Appetite-Determine/dp/0451498569/benazadi-20 With the carb test, you can determine if carbs are a great option for your lifestyle. Some people have to be really smart and mindful about which carbs they are eating. When people start lifting weight, they become more metabolically flexible. Then, they can go back and retest their carbs. Learn more about the 7-Day Carb Test: https://robbwolf.com/wiredtoeat/7daycarbtest/ [41:55] Should You Try Time-Restricted Eating? What Are The Benefits? Time-restricted eating can be a wonderful tool for inducing calorie control. Some people will respond well to eating anything between 10 am and 5 pm. Eventually, they'll start to get healthier and make better food choices. We all know that somebody who exercises and eats healthy is shockingly healthier than an obese sedentary individual. Robb is not sold that a lean and healthy individual can gain a lot of benefits from fasting. Angela talks with Robb Wolf,  former research biochemist, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Best-selling author and co-host of ‘The Healthy Rebellion Radio' podcast They discuss their own blood sugar issues, effectively tracking blood sugar, the impact of moving to a low carb diet and how the 7 Day Carb Test can help you to make better-informed decisions Robb also shares great information and advice for those who want to optimise their health but have additional  challenges such as complex autoimmune and metabolic issues, explaining exactly how you can achieve optimum health and the results you want This is also a great opportunity to hear about the vital role sodium plays in the body and why it's so important to rehydrate and remineralise in the right way   KEY TAKEAWAYS Individuals can eat a zero carbohydrate diet and still have elevated blood glucose levels due to hepatic glucose release in response to high levels of stress and poor sleep Eating particular  foods can register as a stress response due to the process of eating it or how it interfaces with the gut biome The state of ketosis is subjective to the individual and the volume and intensity of their activity and individually how metabolic healthy and flexible they are Every nerve impulse and muscle contraction is driven by changes in sodium potassium status both inside and outside of cells Elevated insulin levels from overeating and intake of refined foods can be the driver for hypertension When people clean up their diet they reduce both their carbohydrate load and sodium intake Heat, humidity, and physical activity all increase the demands for good rehydration   When you reach the required level of sodium your appetite for sodium rich foods decreases All nutrients and micronutrients have a flavour but only sodium has a specific taste receptor. Sodium rich foods are usually more protein dense and more nutrient dense The 7 Day Carb Test helps you to determine how you handle the glycaemic load of carbohydrates From person to person the carbohydrate response can be very different, everyone varies and you need to focus on your total glucose displacement over time   BEST MOMENTS ‘I shifted into a low carb diet and it was magic for me' ‘When you are intolerant to a particular food it results in stress for the body' ‘People rarely have an accurate insight into their blood glucose responses to different foods, the 7 Day Carb Test provides this so that individuals can make informed decisions'   VALUABLE RESOURCES High Performance Health Podcast Series -https://angelafosterperformance.com/podcasts/ Free Fasting Guide -https://angelafosterperformance.com/fasting/ Free Health Check & Personalised Report -https://www.yourtotalhealthcheck.com/ Join Angela's Female Biohacker Community -https://www.facebook.com/groups/femalebiohacker  Biohack Your Way to Your Best Self - Join My Exclusive Female Biohacker Collective -  www.angelafosteracademy.com/female-Biohacker-collective  Get a free health check and personalised report atwww.yourtotalhealthcheck.com Watch my Free Masterclass on how to master your metabolism -www.angelafosteracademy.com/master-your-metabolism Download my free Guide to Harmonising Your Hormones -www.angelafosterperformance.com/hormones Download my  free Fasting Guide -www.angelafosterperformance.com/fasting/ Download my free Guide to Sleep Like a Boss -www.angelafosterperformance.com/sleep Join my free Facebook Community -www.facebook.com/groups/femalebiohacker Get my bestselling book Rethink Health -https://amzn.to/3vbzYOV   RESOURCES FOR THIS EPISODE http://bit.ly/female-biohacker   https://robbwolf.com/ Wired to Eat - Robb Wolf Sacred Cow - Diana Rodgers, Robb Wolf The Paleo Solution - Robb Wolf Robb Wolf Instagram Robb Wolf Substack   ABOUT THE GUEST Robb Wolf is a former research biochemist and 2X New York Times/Wall Street Journal Best-selling author of The Paleo Solution and Wired To Eat. These findings support the hypothesis of an adaptative response of the liver to regular fructose exposure, i. e. habitual SSB consumption. 1. Is It Possible To Have Increased Plaque Build Up On A Paleo Diet??? [14:08] Stephanie says: Hello Robb and Nikki! Quick not so quick question... I was turned on to Paleo Solution book around 2011 and since then it’s been loaned out more time than I can count. It was a game changer for me, it allowed me to share information with clients and friends without the emotion I tend to get lost in. I’m 43, a personal trainer and nutrition coach. I’ve seen a functional medicine practitioner for about 7 years getting my regular labs drawn etc. They come back with rave reviews and it has everything to do with my nutrition. However... the newest practitioner I see has a nurse, she is the one who counsels on nutrition to the practitioners patients. I recently reached out to ask if a heart MRI would be proactive given my father just had a massive heart attack and a triple bypass surgery, he’s 73, and apparently the ultimate cause was an abnormality in the left ventricle. The nurse contacted me today to talk more in this. I was clear in saying I have no concern that I have build up as my blood work has consistently  been well above satisfactory, that it was more to look at the make up of the heart. She said “as long as your following a plant based diet you should be fine.” Wtf, I literally almost choked. I said I was far from that and had no intention as such. She alerted me on her plant based nutrition certification and that “all that meat I was eating, regardless of my blood work, I could still have too much plaque.” Y’all!!!!!! We exchanged some “thoughts” and she said I needed to be careful where I got my info from because of funding. Is she serious?!?! Sooo I’m feeling frustrated and defeated, I refer this person to my clients and now I’ve lost trust. I want to beable to solidly share relevant, information without getting emotionally heated in these situations. Any insights or thoughts on how handle this, when she’s telling me my eggs are causing plaque? Go to studies I can share? Love y’all so much. Thanks for being amazing, funny and thought provoking https://nutrition-network.org/   2. Too Little or Too Much Salt? [22:41] Hannah says: Hi, I'm coming here because google is a soup of mis-information and I can't seem to get anywhere with it.  I'm 42 years old, 5'3", not overweight (+-133lbs.) and have been keto (very close to carnivore because I'm not a veggie eater) for just about three years.  For the last 10 months I've been intermittent fasting (18-20hrs/day) and have a "carb" day once a week, (with the exception of Thanksgiving-Christmas 2020.)  For the majority of that time, I've felt great.  Never have I had issues with keto-flu, I'm able to transition back with little issue.  Once I began fasting, even better.  And I've been a believer in the importance of supplementing with electrolytes.  I've been using LMNT for as long as I think its been on the market.  Typically one packet/day, sometimes two if a particularly strenuous day. Okay here is my current issue.  After the new year, I've been a little slow getting back in full swing of my keto and IF, but for the last 3 weeks, I'm back.  However, now, 4-6 times a week I have a headache that often begins in my sleep and will not seem to go away. Along with tylenol, I've increased my electrolytes thinking that was for sure the problem.  But it doesn't seem to knock it out like expected.  So, now I'm wondering if perhaps I've been getting too much sodium? In addition to the headache, several times in the last few weeks I've had a rapid heart rate and it feels like it is pounding out of my chest, out of no where, not exercise induced.  As as sit here typing, my head is throbbing and my heart is racing.  Headache is a bummer, but the heart is an actual concern. I'm tempted to up my sodium further (2 LMNT packets and 500mg salt capsules) per day.  But I'm just not sure. All of this leads to the question.  How to tell if you need to increase your electrolytes/sodium or to decrease your intake?  The symptoms on google seem to have overlap. Thanks for any help, Hannah   3. BJJ and Crossfit [3:15] Claus says: Dear Nicki and Robb, as you have a background and experience in both disciplines: As a beginner in both sports: Would you recommend pursuing BJJ and Crossfit at the same time? Are there any synergetic effects? If so, how would you structure a typical training week? (for example: 3x BJJ, 2xCrossfit ?). I'm 36 years old (155 lbs; 5.7). My training for the past 6 months has been calisthenics and running 4 miles 3x per week. Thanks for the work you do! Best, Claus   4. 7 Day Carb Test Question [40:01] Rob says: Hi Robb, I have a question that might sound stupid; and maybe there's a really obvious answer. When you do the 7 Day Carb Test how do you know that when you get good reading that you are not just failing to digest that carbohydrate and just pooping it out later on? And when you get a poor result (spiked blood sugar) that you are digesting all the carbs in the portion and hence experiencing higher blood sugar levels? My thought is, that based on your microbiota or some other factor you might be really good at breaking down potatoes but terrible at doing so with rice, leaving it undigested. I always wondered this about the whole (macro) weighing and measuring approach, if you weigh and measure your macro intake it's obviously a proxy for absorption but do you know if there's every been a study that has measured the macro content of participants poop as well as their food? Cheers for all the great content you put out there. -Rob M 5. Gout / Uric Acid Levels in Blood [44:05] Timo says: Trying to keep it short: A good friend of mine, just above 30yrs old and very dedicated to intense workouts, is now on prescription drugs against gout (apparently it’s in the gene  pool as his dad has gout aswell) and is told to eat as strictly vegetarian as possible and workout less intense, rather slow steady. Also, no Beer. Which is tough here in Germany ;) He has monitored his Uric acid levels closely (as mentioned before, very dedicated about health) and these seem to confirm the no meat approach. I cannot accept that (absolute believer in the importance of good meat for health) and would love to hear your input on that matter. Huge fan of your work, thank you for all you are doing, Cheers from Frankfurt, Timo Sponsor: The Healthy Rebellion Radio is sponsored by our electrolyte company, LMNT. [8:17] Jason says: Hi Rob, When doing the 7 day carb test, why test a given food in isolation if it's never eaten in isolation? For example, when I tested rice I had my blood glucose spike to 166 after two hours; however, when I tested rice with a full avocado my blood sugar was 91 after two hours. I never eat rice in isolation so would you still recommend that I avoid it even though I seem to tolerate it when eaten with other foods? Thanks for your work and trying to spread the message of optimal health into the world! Jason   2. Balance Between Strength and Aerobic Endurance [11:42] Matt says: First, after being introduced to Dr. Michael Rose and his take on aging and longevity, I've started to look at that topic from a fitness perspective.  At the risk of over generalizing, it seems like keys to longevity from a fitness perspective are adequate strength coupled with a leaner body composition along with a strong aerobic base.  Coming from a crossfit background, i've always been attracted to "increased work capacity, broad times, modal domains etc" but have found over the last few years that strength and aerobic endurance appear to exert the most influence over the other metabolic pathways and that focusing on those two helps to improve the more anaerobic pathways more than vice/versa.  My question is: is it possible to determine where the tradeoff exists when trying to balance those two and how could the average person focus on periodizing those two aspects through the year.  For example, could we apply a metric to it, or ever begin to define "optimal" based on something like we should be able to run "x" pace at "y"  percentage of max heart rate and also be able to squat "x" percentage of body weight and do "y" number of pull-ups rather than just attacking random domains like certain "functional fitness" programs do, rather than dividing into strength or endurance camps and prioritizing too much of one or the other at the expense of the other. https://crossfitatlanta.typepad.com/CrossFit_Athletic_Skill_Stand.pdf   3. Tanning Beds [22:13] Michael says: Good morning sir. I was hoping you might provide more detail on your use of tanning beds (I believe I heard you use very brief exposures) Are these beds UVA or UVB? How long do you hop in? How many times a week? Could you unpack the risk/reward and strength of evidence regarding danger of using such beds? Thanks again. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2692214/   4. Short Introductory resources [30:01] Ginny says: Hi Robb, Thank you for the wonderful content you put out - I own Wired to Eat, just completed your Keto Masterclass, and love the Paleo Solution Podcast. I'm writing in today looking for some good introductory resources for someone looking to take small steps toward a healthier diet. A little context here: I've been paleo-ish for about 3 years, starting with whole 30, doing the 7 day carb test, and most recently moving into a keto experiment. However, my boyfriend is less nutritionally aware. For example, yesterday, he made 12 banana bread muffins, and as of dinner time has consumed 8 of them and nothing else. He's naturally thin and can kick my butt in almost any workouts, so he's felt less of a drive to change his eating habits (and I don't bug him about it). Plus, he doesn't even appear to feel bad when he lives off banana bread muffins. However, he sees how great I feel, and how much I love learning about my health, so he's willing to try. Plus, I often cook for both of us, and he sees how delicious healthy eating can be. He asked me for some good introductory resources that he can use to learn more about healthy eating. I would point him to Wired to Eat, but I think a book may be a big investment to start (I don't want him to quit too early). Do you have, or know of, something simple or short that could introduce him to the impact of food on his body? Thank you again for all you do! Ginny http://www.thepediet.com/   5. Saturated Fat on Keto [34:49] Diana says: Hi Nicki and Robb Is saturated fat something to try to avoid on Keto diet? I strive for coconut oil, avocado, and olive oil; but what about butter, fat found in bacon, sausage, cheese, red meats, etc? How much is too much? Thanks Diana

In this episode, I talk with Robb Wolf, the self-proclaimed “Poop Guy”, and bestselling author of The Paleo Solution, the newly released, Wired to Eat, and host of The Paleo Solution Podcast. This is a long episode, but so filled with golden nuggets, that you’ll want to listen to every minute! ***  Before I dive into the episode details, remember, you can review the podcast to enter to win one of two copies of Robb’s new book, Wired to Eat, or one of two copies of Dr. Terry Wahls new book, The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life. Contest ending soon. Click here to leave a review on iTunes. *** In his new book, Wired to Eat, Robb discusses how we are genetically wired to eat more and move less, which is why in our modern world of hyper-palatable processed foods that are readily available in unlimited quantities, that it’s no wonder so many people are chronically ill and struggling with achieving and maintaining healthy weight. But, as Wolf shares in his book, there is a solution! Robb goes into his personal story of what he calls a “precipitous crash” in his health, when he dropped from a muscular 175 pounds to 130 pounds due to malabsorption from ulcerative colitis, and was suffering from a myriad of symptoms including hair loss, splitting nails, and horrible sleep. He shares the multiple triggers that sent his health into a downward spiral…triggers that included both how he was feeding his body AND how he was treating his body with lifestyle choices. He shares how the doctors threw their hands up and told him that he drew the short straw with bad genes, and that he would be facing surgery and a lifetime of medications, which as a research biochemist, he knew were a BAD idea. Oh, and they also congratulated him on his vegan diet filled with grains and legumes and told him that he’d be dead without it. And then…he dug into the research and decided to make himself the experiment. He talks about the fallacy in modern medicine that proof from lab research is required for medical reimbursement to justify trying dietary regimens that are divergent from food guide recommendations (which are based on horrible science by the way), and suggests that we let clinical outcomes drive the boat. He dives into how owning the 1st and 4th CrossFit affiliate gyms IN THE WORLD allowed him to have a massive “laboratory” for about 10 years in which to experiment with an ancestral approach to diet and lifestyle. Robb discusses how modern medicine has done a fantastic job at dealing with infectious disease, but a HORRIBLE JOB of dealing with chronic degenerative diseases, and that because chronic disease is a multifactorial problem, we need a multifactorial approach to resolving it, including: Eating foods our grandparents would’ve recognized Sleeping more Having loving, supportive relationships Not living beyond our means (STRESS!) He also dives into the importance of identifying your emotion-based “WHY” for long-term buy-in and success with improving your health, and discusses how the phrase, “Everything in moderation” is a dangerous TRAP because in our modern world of foods that are engineered to make you want to eat more, moderation simply does not exist! And he discusses his perhaps controversial take on the concept of having a “healthy relationship with food”…that there should never be guilt or morality associated with food. With food, there are only consequences, not a relationship (healthy or not).  *** Remember, you can review the podcast to enter to win one of two copies of Robb’s new book, Wired to Eat, or one of two copies of Dr. Terry Wahls new book, The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life. We discuss Personalized Nutrition, and how research suggests that individuals respond to various foods, specifically carbohydrates differently, and shares how the 7-Day Carb Test he shares in his book Wired to Eat can help you identify which carbohydrate foods are best for you, and which ones you should probably avoid.  Finally, Robb weighs in on Ketosis as an outstanding tool for some, but not all people. Check out the big project he’s been working on, the  newly released Keto Master Class, a 13-module program that includes a workbook, and bonus downloads such as ketosis, cholesterol, epigenetics, and intermittent fasting. In this episode, we dive into Robb’s incredible new book Wired to Eat, but if you haven’t read his first book, The Paleo Solution, it is a MUST READ as well. News and Views (0:40) Sarah and her family opted for an "explore your city" approach to Spring Break. Their goal was to do 2 new things around Atlanta. They went to a park with a creek they've never explored—and found a super scary snake! Then, she and her daughters went on a nearly 6-mile hike around a local "mountain." Sarah was really impressed with how her daughters held their own during their 4-hour adventure. She did bribe them with a gluten-free and dairy-free sandwich cookie during the last 1.5 miles, but overall they did well on double or triple their usual hiking distance! Sarah's daughters are now really into hiking. It makes her feel like she did something great as a parent! Meanwhile, Stacy's kids will be cleaning during Spring Break to get their house ready to sell! Stacy's family has been getting creative in their kitchen since they're trying to keep it clean. They're finding lots of interesting options like salads that they normally wouldn't eat much. You can find some of Stacy's lunch box and dinner creations at @RealEverythingBlog and the #nocookpaleo hashtag. Stacy is looking forward to selling the house! Robb Wolf Intro(11:20) Robb has been an important voice in the Paleo community for years. Sarah says his new book, Wired to Eat, is going to advance the conversation on Paleo nutrition and provide useful tools for everyone in the community He blogs at https://robbwolf.com/ and his first book, The Paleo Solution, is available online and in stores everywhere. Find Wired to Eat here and The Paleo Diet Solution here. They come highly recommended Robb Wolf Joins the Show (12:40) Stacy and Sarah are super excited that Robb is back on the show! Robb's site is RobbWolf.com When Robb moved to Reno 5 or 6 years ago, he became involved with a medical clinic that had just finished a large scale, 2-year pilot study with Reno PD and Fire Department. The changes when they put first responders on a Paleo Diet saved the City of Reno $22 million with a 33-1 return on investment. New scientific information is going to continue to validate findings like these. Robb realized "this stuff really works, I'm not a crazy person." At the same time, Paleo has become dogmatic. Robb says this is understandable because people see such amazing results, but it's off-putting for the media, public at large and especially mainstream medicine. "Brain evolution, the determinates of food choice, and the omnivore's dilemma," one of the papers that inspired Robb's new book Our food choices are driven by a desire to consume more calories than we expend, so eating is regulated by one of the deepest, most ancient parts of the brain. Really powerful triggers are woven into that process. Since we now live in a time of "infinite food options," we shouldn't be surprised that it's difficult to make good choices. This paper made a case that "it's not your fault." Personalized Nutrition by Prediction of Glycemic Response A groundbreaking study that showed completely individualized responses to certain carbohydrates. For instance, one person might have a normal blood sugar response with a cookie and elevated blood sugar response with a banana, while another person might find the opposite. With healthy blood sugar levels, researchers saw healthy gut microbiota, and vice versa. Robb realized this was an important story to tell, especially couched in the context that struggling with dietary and lifestyle change is not our fault. Personalized nutrition made a strong case that although we need to start with general Paleo principles, the "one size fits all" approaches only meet the needs of certain people. Stacy says some people get caught up in their own approach and forget about individualized, flexible approaches that make significant change possible—where "perfection isn't the enemy of the good." She sees this as a way to encourage people to find a more personalized template that might make them want to try Paleo without giving up some less-damaging, favorite foods. Robb compares the appeal of social media to the hyper palatability of potato chips, which are designed to appeal to our neurology in the same way. Sea Salt and Vinegar potato chips are an example of this type of engineered food. Modern dietetics are still in complete denial that evolutionary models can help us, so the gatekeepers aren't doing us any favors. Sarah's history of obesity and binge eating means adopting a Paleo diet didn't completely heal her relationship with food. She still struggles with portion control and intuitive eating doesn't work for her. Researchers now think engaging with hyper palatable foods regularly contributes to the problem of binge eating. It's more complicated than just cutting everything out! In Wired to Eat, Robb shares concrete strategies for identifying trigger foods The 7-Day Carb Test The book shares a 30-day Paleo Reset to support a healthy blood sugar response. Afterward, the 7-Day Carb Test helps you understand where you are on the insulin sensitivity spectrum. It involves testing blood sugar response to 50 g of several different types of carbs (gluten-free like white rice, corn tortillas, white potatoes) after they are eaten alone at breakfast. Robb's ideal measure is under 115 mg/dl after 2 hours. If a carb spikes the blood sugar too much, it makes sense to avoid, limit or keep the food in the post-workout period. Robb has seen surprising results to these tests, possibly mediated by an immunogenic response to certain foods. Researchers from the "Personalized Nutrition" study mentioned above told Robb they didn't test for immunogenic responses in this study, but they suspect this was a factor in surprising responses found in their study, like a poor reaction to hummus. We've long thought high and low glycemic load foods were the key to managing blood sugar, but there's more to the story thanks to these immunogenic results. These responses are tricky because they don't fit cleanly into the mold of either allergy or immune responses. Stacy notes that many people don't believe that food affects their health, and she hopes Robb's work leads to profound results. Robb says blood glucose control helps manage our gut micro biome too, making it a very affective control on our health. Pre-agricultural people given blood glucose tolerance tests have fabulous glucose tolerance. This is the basis for Robb's upper level, 115 mg/dl. Sarah had gestational diabetes during her first pregnancy, and the levels were much higher than this upper level. What her doctors accepted was much higher than what she thinks is ideal now. Robb was very generous with his time, so he will be joining us to talk about a completely different topic soon! Rate and Review us! Goodbye! Wired To Eat Have you or the people close to you ever struggled with cravings or an appetite that can sometimes seem out of control? Have you ever felt anger or frustration about your relationship with food? You are not alone.  There are millions of people in the country and across the world that feel that exact same way. Listen to episode 103 as Robb Wolf uncovers the scientific reasons why we are all wired to eat and how this modern world and big food system is set up to capitalize on our biology. Utilizing a 30 day reset and a 7 day carb test, Robb unpacks how this will help determine what amounts and types of carbohydrates your specific body can tolerate. No more guessing, because now we can all find out for ourselves which foods we can and cannot eat, instead of relying on some BS one-size-fits-all frame. After over 100 shows this goes down as one of Josh's top 3 most in-depth, authentic, and powerful conversations he's ever had on Wellness Force and Radio. Discover how to turn off cravings, rewire your appetite for weight loss, and determine the foods that work for you! ----> Win 1 of 3 Copies of Wired to Eat from Wellness Force Wired To Eat explains how more willpower and better discipline are not the missing pieces to health and fat loss. Our genetics are working against us in the modern world of super tasty foods. In this new book you will learn about neuroregulation of appetite and how hyperpalatable foods can bypass our built in “off switch”, causing us to eat far more than we otherwise would. The genes that made our ancestors successful are setting us up for troubles today. You will learn how sleep, gut health, stress, exercise and community can work with or against our goals of health and leanness. With Wired To Eat you’ll embark on a program to rewire your appetite and regain your health. We will start with a 30 Day Reset that will normalize the neuroregulation of appetite and help us not only to eat the right amount, but also begin to appreciate simple but delicious meals. After the 30 Day Reset we will use the 7 Day Carb Test to map what specific carbohydrate foods we do best (and worst) with. This will move us beyond one-size-fits-all dietary dogma and into the modern world of Personalized Nutrition. Wired To Eat includes over 60 whole-food recipes and includes meal plans for the 30 Day Reset as well as for autoimmune and ketogenic diets. Listen to Episode 103 as Robb Uncovers Robb's response to when people say they do not believe in Paleo and ancestral health: the evidence is there that it works and it's helping people. How Paleo health got its start with just a couple of thousands of people studying and researching it. The emotion and story behind Robb writing his upcoming book, Wired to Eat. How the human race has evolved in such a way that it's difficult to eat healthy with our current environment: food to order, a variety of flavors, processed foods etc. Why we have a mindset that we can't be healthy even as we're watching other people do just that. It's hard to make changes in our lives because we're afraid to fail or look bad. How Robb struggled with his own health and inherited genetics. Despite his success as an author and podcast host, Robb has always been able to stay level-headed and stay true to himself. What Robb has learned from watching other people in the industry and how he used that point of view as an opportunity to decide how he would present himself to the public. How Robb's mom's health scare with her gastrointestinal health led to Robb taking a closer look at his own health and adjust his nutrition to follow the Paleo diet. Robb's experience adapting to a Paleo based diet and the success he has had with it. How Robb met his wife, Nicki, when he moved to Chico, California and the unknown link their mothers shared by having the same rheumatologists. The impact of the death of Nicki's mother from rheumatoid arthritis and how Robb wishes he could've helped her based on what was able to help his mother. How Robb's 30 Day Reset plan can help people take a closer look at their nutrition and improve their lives. Robb and Josh dive deep into a conversation about the neuroregulation of appetite and personalized nutrition tools. How our modern world has taken away the positive impact of our natural optimum foraging strategy and why we have palate fatigue. What we can do to avoid distractions and really focus on what our appetites are telling us: when we're truly hungry and when we're full. The dessert effect: When we decide to go ahead to eat dessert even though we've just polished off a huge meal. The normal fed state: what it is and how it varies from person to person depending on several factors such as stress, sleep, genetics etc. The idea of calories in and calories out simply doesn't work. We need to balance our activity and nutrition out. If we're very active, we need  more nutrients, but if we have a low calorie day, we're naturally less active. If we get into an over-fed state, we're overweight, but our brain cannot sense it because it's become numb to the feeling of over-eating food. How Robb came up with the 30 Day Reset Program in Wired to Eat and why it's only 30 days: It's not a long time, but enough time to collect necessary information to help the person see results as far ar their: Protein Fiber The mission behind the 7 Day Carb Test: it helps people to see the impact that different carbohydrates have on their bodies and minds. Robb's experience with the Ketogenic Diet and what advice he would give to people who follow it or a low-carb diet. The blood-glucose monitors that Robb offers on his website and what it can tell you about yourself in accordance with different parameters such as food and sleep.  Precision Xtra Glucose+Ketone meter Dexcom Continuous Glucose monitor Are finger pricks really necessary to tell us about our blood-glucose levels? Robb shares how technology is making it easier for us to learn about our bodies and what we can do to modify our daily habits for better health.  How becoming a parent has helped Robb become more patient with both himself and others. What it was like for Robb to write his second book, Wired to Eat and some of the hurdles he had to jump to make sure his voice was heard in the book. Top 3 Takeaways From The Show What have we got to lose from trying a diet like the Paleo diet? If we're doing all that we can to help our health, but nothing is helping, simply changing your focus on nutrition could be the solution. Change can be difficult but with Robb's 30 Day Reset Program and 7 Day Carb Test, we'll be able to see that making small changes to our diet really isn't that difficult after all. Our modern world has stolen the positive impact of  the natural optimum foraging strategy that was passed down to us by our ancestors. This is why we experience palate fatigue after we eat the same processed foods over and over again. The Paleo diet brings us back to that optimum foraging strategy so we can avoid palate fatigue. What our bodies and minds need is a variety of healthy, nutritious foods that can help us function better. Our bodies have a gut, health, and brain connection and The 4 Pillars of Health have a great influence over this connection. The 4 Pillars of Health are Sleep, Movement, Community, and Nutrition. Our genetic and environmental factors can either make it easier for us to overeat or if we're able to balance the 4 Pillars, we can manage our nutrition. Power Quotes From Robb Wolf "Eat whole foods, get outside, move a lot, sleep like you are on vacation, and surround yourself with loving relationships." - @robbwolf "If we understand how our world has changed, our genetics are wired for a different world, we can free ourselves of the shame and missed placed morality associated with you and hearing difficulties of change. We can finally stop bleeding ourselves for our inability to lose weight and get healthy." - Robb Wolf in Wired to Eat "We are genetically wired to eat more and move less; it’s no wonder most people fail to achieve health and weight-loss goals." - Robb Wolf in Wired to Eat "The fact that the Paleo diet can be difficult for some people to follow indicates that there is a mismatch between our genetics and our current environment. Everything that made our ancestors successful and everything that brought us to where we are today is the reason why changing our diets can be difficult." - Robb Wolf on why it's difficult for people to follow healthy diets like the Paleo diet. "We often tell ourselves stories about why we are a certain way. We tell ourselves why we can or cannot change. And the common denominator with most of the stories is fear. Fear of change, failure, or wasting time. This fear sends the logical mind searching for credible reasons why embarking on a new solution seems like a bad idea." - Robb Wolf in his upcoming book, Wired to Eat about why we let fear get in the way of our goals.  "It's not about me, it's about the mission." - Lauren Noel on the importance of staying true to yourself while becoming more recognizable in the health and wellness industry.  "I basically adopted a low-carb, Paleo diet and it was almost as if a switch had been flipped. For the first time in my life, I didn't have to eat every hour and a half to two hours or face a catastrophic hypoglycemic event. I was completely functional. I felt good, I was leaner than I had ever been in my life, and it was all effortless." - Robb Wolf on deciding to follow a Paleo diet to improve his health.  "Eat whole, unprocessed foods, get outside in the sun, move a lot, sleep like you are on vacation, and surround yourself with loving relationships." - Robb Wolf  in Wired to Eat on how to stay healthy.   "With a Paleo template, you can still add spaghetti if you want to add it. You can have spaghetti squash and it might be a bit odd for some people at first, but when you add the marinara sauce, it still tastes delicious. It's the same as normal spaghetti because you don't even taste the noodles. What you taste is the marinara sauce on top." - Robb Wolf on how you can eat Paleo foods and still enjoy the meal.  "Be able to do whatever I want to do with very little preparation or effort within the 4 pillars of health: sleep, nutrition, movement, and community. We need to have a balance of all 4 and if we're successful, we'll be able to do a large amount of what we want to do with our lives." - Rob Wolf on what wellness means to him. "People are not swayed into action by information. Most people make changes in behavior due to emotion, not facts and figures. This is not a bad thing; our emotions, coupled with our logical intellect, is what make us human." - Robb Wolf in Wired to Eat More About Robb Wolf Robb Wolf, a former research biochemist is the New York Times Best Selling author of The Paleo Solution – The Original Human Diet.
