This world has a completely different point of view about gender identity than the Christian worldview. This difference causes hesitancy in many when the subject is broached. To be honest, it is such a difficult topic to talk about with adults, now think about how difficult it is to talk about it with our children. My guest Denise Shick addresses the issue of gender identity speaking about Understanding Gender Confusion.  Denise shares her personal story on how her father told her he wanted to live as a woman. She was a young girl. Needless to say, she didn’t understand why and didn’t know how to process it. She only came to deal with it much later in life when she could start wrapping her mind around what her father’s decision meant.  As Denise grappled with her father’s decision, she began to understand that she had to speak to her own children early and often about God’s rightful plan for men and women.   “Speak to your children in a safe environment. Talk about God creating two genders in God’s plan”  Parents should share that we live in a fallen world with lots of confusion, yet God’s plan is perfect. Ma il peggio arrivò quando cominciò a palpeggiare sua figlia, nell'illusione di sentirsi donna, come lei.Tutto questo provocò nella ragazza disorientamento, al punto che adolescente cominciò a bere e, per colmare il suo profondo desiderio di amore maschile e di attenzioni che non avevo ricevuto da padre, cominciò a flirtare con tutti quelli che le rivolgevano attenzioni e alla fine delle scuole medie arrivò a collezionare 13 fidanzatini. Piano piano la sua esistenza cominciò ad avviarsi verso la dissolutezza, fra alcol e uomini, accarezzò anche l'idea del suicidio. A salvarla fu la frequentazione della casa di un amico, che poi diventerà suo marito e da cui imparò cosa fosse una famiglia e chi fosse un padre.PERSINO IL GIORNO DELLE NOZZEPersino il giorno delle nozze, mentre Denise stava per raggiungere l'altare, «mio padre mi disse che voleva essere al mio posto, per sopravvivere feci finta di non sentire. She completed training at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut at the University of Virginia. Dr. Cretella serves on the Advisory Board of the Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and is Chair of the Gender Identity Subcommittee for the Catholic Medical Association. She is a peer reviewer for the journals, “Issues in Law and Medicine,” and the “Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons.” After 15 years of group practice in rural Connecticut and Rhode Island she left clinical practice to devote more time to family and the ACPeds.
