The Sixers draft VJ Edgecombe out of Baylor University with the 3rd overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. He has some great tools and a very athletic style of play and will likely slide right into the Guard rotation. The question remains however, if the Sixers can make it out of the 2nd Round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Joel Embiid and Paul George will be one year older, and the skepticism over their ability to stay healthy enough to play even 50 games total together remains. The Phillies were swept in Houston while the pitching staff allowed just 5 runs combined. Suarez, Wheeler, and Sanchez were masterful, but the offense was in hibernation. With the trade deadline looming, Tek & Prem discuss the possible scenarios with key prospects and potential trade pieces on the active roster. A weekend series in Atlanta against the Braves, who are heating up, will provide more clarity regarding the Phillies recent offensive slumber. The Flyers add a young player with a lot of upside in a pre-draft trade and the NHL Draft is on deck. And with that, the 2024-25 NHL season has come to a close and for a second straight season, the Florida Panthers are Stanley Cup Champions. Jason and Frank kicked off today's episode of The DFO Rundown by talking about the Panthers once again winning hockey's ultimate prize. For GM Bill Zito, the celebration is short-lived as he now has to focus on trying to keep this group together despite a tight salary cap situation. Frank talked about just how many of the big free agents he thinks the Panthers could hang onto. They then talked about the Edmonton Oilers, who got to within two games of winning it all. Now, they face a lot of big offseason questions. The first is around Evander Kane and the NHL's investigation into their use of LTIR. Frank gave some insight into that. They also talked about the Trent Frederic extension. They then got into their Eastern Conference offseason preview, beginning with the Philadelphia Flyers. The list of needs for GM Danny Briere is long and they have plenty of assets and cap space to use if they want to. The Boston Bruins are going to be looking to bounce back and add some scoring punch to their roster but they are not the only team in that boat. The Rangers, Red Wings, and Sabres are all looking to take steps forward.Tyler then popped on for Buy or Sell, where he asked the guys about what playoff team is going to be the busiest this summer and how many players from this last Cup Final could he Hall of Famers one day.0:15 - Panthers repeat as Cup Champs4:00 - Evander Kane Investigation11:30 - Trent Frederic Extension17:30 - Philadelphia Flyers23:00 - Boston Bruins28:45 - Buffalo Sabres35:50 - Pittsburgh Penguins39:25 - New York Islanders42:55 - New York Rangers46:25 - Detroit Red Wings50:05 - Columbus Blue Jackets56:20 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? We are inching closer and closer to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and as the regular season comes to a close over the next few days, there is less and less on the line around the league. As a result, the four matchups in the Eastern Conference are basically all but locked up so today, Jason and Frank previewed each of the series. They started off with the battle between two Sunshine State rivals as the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning will meet in round one. It feels wrong that one of these two will have their season ended in just a few weeks, but the guys gave their picks. They then moved on to the Battle of Ontario as the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators will meet in round one. Are the Leafs finally ready to go on a deep run? Or could this pesky Sens team pull off an upset? Frank and Jason were actually split on this series.Tyler then popped in for Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about which eliminated team will look the most different next season and what Matthew Knies' next deal could look like in Toronto. After that, they took a look at the two series in the Metro as the Canes will host the Devils in a series that Frank thinks could be a sweep. They also quickly talked about some potential goaltending decisions that a few teams will have to make before their playoff series begin. They also talked about the Montreal Canadiens' chances of pulling off a major upset and taking down the conference leading Washington Capitals.
