Chapter 1 - The Departure of BoromirHe turned from the North back again to North, and saw nothing save the distant hills, unless it were that far away he could see again a great bird like an eagle high in the air, descending slowly in wide circles down towards the earth.Q1 - What, if any, symbolism is there with the Eagles?Q2 - Why does Aragorn always shout Elendil?‘Farewell, Aragorn! Go to Minas Tirith and save my people! I have failed.' ‘No!' said Aragorn, taking his hand and kissing his brow. ‘You have conquered. Few have gained such a victory. Be at peace! Minas Tirith shall not fall!' Boromir smiled. ‘Which way did they go? Was Frodo there?' said Aragorn. But Boromir did not speak again.Q3 - What do you think about Boromir's passing?Q4 - Is Aragorn making the right decision?Chapter 2 - The Riders of Rohan‘I think that the enemy brought his own enemy with him,' answered Aragorn. ‘These are Northern Orcs from far away. Among the slain are none of the great Orcs with the strange badges. There was a quarrel, I guess: it is no uncommon thing with these foul folk. Maybe there was some dispute about the road.'Q1 - What do you think their quarrel was about?Q2 - These chapters keep mentioning this West Wind for Gondor…what is that about?Q3 - How tense was this chapter with the chase…Q4 - What is the deal with Saruman poisoning the land or their journey?Gimli rose and planted his feet firmly apart: his hand gripped the handle of his axe, and his dark eyes flashed. ‘Give me your name, horse-master, and I will give you mine, and more besides,' he said. ‘As for that,' said the Rider, staring down at the Dwarf, ‘the stranger should declare himself first. Yet I am named E´omer son of E´omund, and am called the Third Marshal of Riddermark.' ‘Then E´omer son of E´omund, Third Marshal of Riddermark, let Gimli the Dwarf Glo´in's son warn you against foolish words. You speak evil of that which is fair beyond the reach of your thought, and only little wit can excuse you.' E´omer's eyes blazed, and the Men of Rohan murmured angrily, and closed in, advancing their spears. ‘I would cut off your head, beard and all, Master Dwarf, if it stood but a little higher from the ground,' said E´omer. ‘He stands not alone,' said Legolas, bending his bow and fitting an arrow with hands that moved quicker than sight. ‘You would die before your stroke fell.'Q5 - Don't insult Galadriel around Gimli.‘Halflings!' laughed the Rider that stood beside E´omer. ‘Halflings! But they are only a little people in old songs and children's tales out of the North. Do we walk in legends or on the green earth in the daylight?'Q6 - What do you think of Eomer and his disbelief that Hobbits are real? Some years ago the Lord of the Black Land wished to purchase horses of us at great price, but we refused him, for he puts beasts to evil use. Then he sent plundering Orcs, and they carry off what they can, choosing always the black horses: few of these are now left. For that reason our feud with the Orcs is bitter.Q7 - So the men of Rohan, have NOT been selling horses to Sauron?Chapter 3 - The Uruk-HaiHe cut the thongs round Pippin's legs and ankles, picked him up by his hair and stood him on his feet. Pippin fell down, and Uglu´k dragged him up by his hair again. Several Orcs laughed. Uglu´k thrust a flask between his teeth and poured some burning liquid down his throat: he felt a hot fierce glow flow through him. The pain in his legs and ankles vanished. He could stand.Q1 - What is this stuff? When he had forced a drink from his flask down the hobbit's throat, cut his leg-bonds, and dragged him to his feet, Merry stood up, looking pale but grim and defiant, and very much alive. The gash in his forehead gave him no more trouble, but he bore a brown scar to the end of his days. ‘Hullo, Pippin!' he said. ‘So you've come on this little expedition, too? Where do we get bed and breakfast?'Q2 - Is Merry going crazy or is he just making Pippen laugh?Q3 - There's an arrow that hits Grishnuk that is guided by fate, the book suggests…what role does fate play in the story so far?

Chapter 19 - The Mirror of Galadriel‘Alas!' said Aragorn. ‘Gandalf the Grey fell into shadow. He remained in Moria and did not escape.' At these words all the Elves in the hall cried aloud in grief and amazement. Q1 - What do you think of Lothlorian‘I am afraid that's only too true, Sam,' said Frodo. ‘Yet I hope very much that before we leave we shall see the Lady of the Elves again.' Even as he spoke, they saw, as if she came in answer to their words, the Lady Galadriel approaching. Tall and white and fair she walked beneath the trees. She spoke no word, but beckoned to them.Q2 - What do you think of the Mirror?Q3 - What do you think about Sam looking into the mirror?‘He suspects, but he does not know – not yet. Do you not see now wherefore your coming is to us as the footstep of Doom? For if you fail, then we are laid bare to the Enemy. Yet if you succeed, then our power is diminished, and Lothlo´rien will fade, and the tides of Time will sweep it away. We must depart into the West, or dwindle to a rustic folk of dell and cave, slowly to forget and to be forgotten.'Q4 - What do you make of this?‘And now at last it comes. You will give me the Ring freely! In place of the Dark Lord you will set up a Queen. And I shall not be dark, but beautiful and terrible as the Morning and the Night! Fair as the Sea and the Sun and the Snow upon the Mountain! Dreadful as the Storm and the Lightning! Stronger than the foundations of the earth. All shall love me and despair!' She lifted up her hand and from the ring that she wore there issued a great light that illumined her alone and left all else dark. She stood before Frodo seeming now tall beyond measurement, and beautiful beyond enduring, terrible and worshipful. Then she let her hand fall, and the light faded, and suddenly she laughed again, and lo! she was shrunken: a slender elf-woman, clad in simple white, whose gentle voice was soft and sad. ‘I pass the test,' she said. ‘I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain Galadriel.'Q5 - What was her test?Chapter 20 - Farewell to LorienAnd Aragorn answered: ‘Lady, you know all my desire, and long held in keeping the only treasure that I seek. Yet it is not yours to give me, even if you would; and only through darkness shall I come to it.' ‘Yet maybe this will lighten your heart,' said Galadriel; ‘for it was left in my care to be given to you, should you pass through this land.' Then she lifted from her lap a great stone of a clear green, set in a silver brooch that was wrought in the likeness of an eagle with outspread wings; and as she held it up the gem flashed like the sun shining through the leaves of spring. ‘This stone I gave to Celebrı´an my daughter, and she to hers; and now it comes to you as a token of hope. In this hour take the name that was foretold for you, Elessar, the Elfstone of the House of Elendil!' Then Aragorn took the stone and pinned the brooch upon his breast, and those who saw him wondered; for they had not marked before how tall and kingly he stood, and it seemed to them that many years of toil had fallen from his shoulders. ‘For the gifts that you have given me I thank you,' he said, ‘O Lady of Lo´rien of whom were sprung Celebrı´an and Arwen Evenstar. What praise could I say more?'Q1 - What do you think of Aragorn?‘And what gift would a Dwarf ask of the Elves?' said Galadriel, turning to Gimli. ‘None, Lady,' answered Gimli. ‘It is enough for me to have seen the Lady of the Galadhrim, and to have heard her gentle words.' ‘Hear all ye Elves!' she cried to those about her. ‘Let none say again that Dwarves are grasping and ungracious! Yet surely, Gimli son of Glo´in, you desire something that I could give? Name it, I bid you! You shall not be the only guest without a gift.' ‘There is nothing, Lady Galadriel,' said Gimli, bowing low and stammering. ‘Nothing, unless it might be – unless it is permitted to ask, nay, to name a single strand of your hair, which surpasses the gold of the earth as the stars surpass the gems of the mine. I do not ask for such a gift. But you commanded me to name my desire.'Q2 - This is amazingQ3 - What do you think of their gifts?Chapter 21 - The Great River‘Elbereth Gilthoniel!' sighed Legolas as he looked up. Even as he did so, a dark shape, like a cloud and yet not a cloud, for it moved far more swiftly, came out of the blackness in the South, and sped towards the Company, blotting out all light as it approached. Soon it appeared as a great winged creature, blacker than the pits in the night. Fierce voices rose up to greet it from across the water. Frodo felt a sudden chill running through him and clutching at his heart; there was a deadly cold, like the memory of an old wound, in his shoulder. He crouched down, as if to hide. Suddenly the great bow of Lo´rien sang. Shrill went the arrow from the elven-string. Frodo looked up. Almost above him the winged shape swerved. There was a harsh croaking scream, as it fell out of the air, vanishing down into the gloom of the eastern shore. The sky was clean again. There was a tumult of many voices far away, cursing and wailing in the darkness, and then silence. Neither shaft nor cry came again from the east that night.Q1 - What was that?Boromir held out long against this choice; but when it became plain that Frodo would follow Aragorn, wherever he went, he gave in. ‘It is not the way of the Men of Minas Tirith to desert their friends at need,' he said, ‘and you will need my strength, if ever you are to reach the Tindrock. To the tall isle I will go, but no further. There I shall turn to my home, alone if my help has not earned the reward of any companionship.'Q2 - What do you think of Boromir?‘Fear not!' said a strange voice behind him. Frodo turned and saw Strider, and yet not Strider; for the weatherworn Ranger was no longer there. In the stern sat Aragorn son of Arathorn, proud and erect, guiding the boat with skilful strokes; his hood was cast back, and his dark hair was blowing in the wind, a light was in his eyes: a king returning from exile to his own land.Q3 - What do you think of their trip so far?Chapter 22 - The Breaking of the Fellowship‘I was afraid for you, Frodo,' he said, coming forward. ‘If Aragorn is right and Orcs are near, then none of us should wander alone, and you least of all: so much depends on you. And my heart too is heavy. May I stay now and talk for a while, since I have found you? It would comfort me. Where there are so many, all speech becomes a debate without end. But two together may perhaps find wisdom.'Q1 - What do you think of this conversation?‘Ah! The Ring!' said Boromir, his eyes lighting. ‘The Ring! Is it not a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt for so small a thing? So small a thing! And I have seen it only for an instant in the house of Elrond. Could I not have a sight of it again?'Q2 - Thoughts on Boromirs temptation?Q3 - How do you think this compares with Frodo offering the ring to Galadriel? The two powers strove in him. For a moment, perfectly balanced between their piercing points, he writhed, tormented. Suddenly he was aware of himself again, Frodo, neither the Voice nor the Eye: free to choose, and with one remaining instant in which to do so. He took the Ring off his finger. He was kneeling in clear sunlight before the high seat. A black shadow seemed to pass like an arm above him; it missed Amon Hen and groped out west, and faded. Then all the sky was clean and blue and birds sang in every tree.Q4 - What would have happened to Frodo if the Ring took control?Sam passed his hand over his eyes, brushing away the tears. ‘Steady, Gamgee!' he said. ‘Think, if you can! He can't fly across rivers, and he can't jump waterfalls. He's got no gear. So he's got to get back to the boats. Back to the boats! Back to the boats, Sam, like lightning!'Q5 - Sam is brilliant!‘Of course it is,' answered Sam. ‘But not alone. I'm coming too, or neither of us isn't going. I'll knock holes in all the boats first.' Frodo actually laughed. A sudden warmth and gladness touched his heart. ‘Leave one!' he said. ‘We'll need it. But you can't come like this without your gear or food or anything.'Q6 - What do you think?

Chapter 16 - A Journey in the Dark‘The road that I speak of leads to the Mines of Moria,' said Gandalf. Only Gimli lifted up his head; a smouldering fire was in his eyes. On all the others a dread fell at the mention of that name. Even to the hobbits it was a legend of vague fear.Q1 - What do you think of Moria…it seems darker than I expected.Turning to the others he said: ‘While I am searching, will you each make ready to enter the Mines? For here I fear we must say farewell to our good beast of burden. You must lay aside much of the stuff that we brought against bitter weather: you will not need it inside, nor, I hope, when we come through and journey on down into the South. Instead each of us must take a share of what the pony carried, especially the food and the water-skins.' ‘But you can't leave poor old Bill behind in this forsaken place, Mr. Gandalf!' cried Sam, angry and distressed. ‘I won't have it, and that's flat. After he has come so far and all!' ‘I am sorry, Sam,' said the wizard. ‘But when the Door opens I do not think you will be able to drag your Bill inside, into the long dark of Moria. You will have to choose between Bill and your master.' ‘He'd follow Mr. Frodo into a dragon's den, if I led him,' protested Sam. ‘It'd be nothing short of murder to turn him loose with all these wolves about.' ‘It will be short of murder, I hope,' said Gandalf. He laid his hand on the pony's head, and spoke in a low voice. ‘Go with words of guard and guiding on you,' he said. ‘You are a wise beast, and have learned much in Rivendell. Make your ways to places where you can find grass, and so come in time to Elrond's house, or wherever you wish to go. ‘There, Sam! He will have quite as much chance of escaping wolves and getting home as we have.'Q2 - Was there magic in what Gandalf said?Q3 - What do you think of the wolves that came on them?Q4 - What do you think of them getting into Moria?Q5 - I missed it, but did Bill the pony die?Chapter 17 - The Bridge of Khazad-Dûm‘It is grim reading,' he said. ‘I fear their end was cruel. Listen! We cannot get out. We cannot get out. They have taken the Bridge and second hall. Fra´r and Lo´ni and Na´li fell there. Then there are four lines smeared so that I can only read went 5 days ago. The last lines run the pool is up to the wall at Westgate. The Watcher in the Water took O´ in. We cannot get out. The end comes, and then drums, drums in the deep. I wonder what that means. The last thing written is in a trailing scrawl of elf-letters: they are coming. There is nothing more.' Gandalf paused and stood in silent thought.Q1 - This is such a creepy section.Q2 - What do you think of this whole chapters tone? What it was could not be seen: it was like a great shadow, in the middle of which was a dark form, of man-shape maybe, yet greater; and a power and terror seemed to be in it and to go before it.Q3 - What do you think of the Balrog? The Balrog reached the bridge. Gandalf stood in the middle of the span, leaning on the staff in his left hand, but in his other hand Glamdring gleamed, cold and white. His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings. It raised the whip, and the thongs whined and cracked. Fire came from its nostrils. But Gandalf stood firm. With a bound the Balrog leaped full upon the bridge. Its whip whirled and hissed. ‘He cannot stand alone!' cried Aragorn suddenly and ran back along the bridge. ‘Elendil!' he shouted. ‘I am with you, Gandalf!' ‘Gondor!' cried Boromir and leaped after him.Q4 - I love that Aragorn and Boromir stood to try to fight with Gandalf. With a terrible cry the Balrog fell forward, and its shadow plunged down and vanished. But even as it fell it swung its whip, and the thongs lashed and curled about the wizard's knees, dragging him to the brink. He staggered and fell, grasped vainly at the stone, and slid into the abyss. ‘Fly, you fools!' he cried, and was gone.Q5 - It wasnt Gandalf's choice?Chapter 18 - LothlorianQ1 - What do you think of Lothlorian?Q2 - What do you think about the elves that live their and their laws with dwarves? At the hill's foot Frodo found Aragorn, standing still and silent as a tree; but in his hand was a small golden bloom of elanor, and a light was in his eyes. He was wrapped in some fair memory: and as Frodo looked at him he knew that he beheld things as they once had been in this same place. For the grim years were removed from the face of Aragorn, and he seemed clothed in white, a young lord tall and fair; and he spoke words in the Elvish tongue to one whom Frodo could not see. Arwen vanimelda, nama´rie¨! he said, and then he drew a breath, and returning out of his thought he looked at Frodo and smiled. ‘Here is the heart of Elvendom on earth,' he said, ‘and here my heart dwells ever, unless there be a light beyond the dark roads that we still must tread, you and I. Come with me!' And taking Frodo's hand in his, he left the hill of Cerin Amroth and came there never again as living man.Q3 - What is going on here?

After falling into the abyss in Númenor, Sauron re-establishes his kingdom in Mordor and makes war upon Men and Elves. Sauron takes Minas Ithil. Isildur flees in search of Elendil. Anárion fights back Sauron, but recognizes that a greater force is needed. The Last Alliance is formed, and war is waged against Sauron. Anárion is slain, but the assault comes all the way to the tower of Barad-dûr, where it is sieged for seven years. Sauron comes forth and kills Gil-galad and Elendil, but Isildur cuts the Ruling Ring from Sauron's hand, and he is vanquished for a time. Elendil refuses to destroy the One Ring. As Ar-Pharazôn ages, Sauron urges him to make war on the Valar and claim the “land of the deathless”. Amandil decides to sail into the west like Eärendil his forefather and seek the pardon of the Valar. He counsels Elendil to take any remaining faithful men and flee from Númenor before the outbreak of war. These men take with them their families and heirlooms, namely the Seven Stones and the sapling from the fruit of Nimloth the White Tree. A great eagle-shaped cloud comes out of the West. Ar-Pharazôn boards his great ship, Alcarondas, Castle of the Sea, and he and the mighty fleet of Númenor disappear into the western sea. 01:45 Greg reads pages 274-278 from the Silmarillion, 2nd Edition 16:00 Summary 17:00 Discussion Watch this Episode on YouTube Send feedback to beforethefellowship@gmail.com Follow us as we follow Tolkien: TWITTER DISCORD The Rings of Power comes to Amazon, but nothing compares to the real story JRR Tolkien wrote. Welcome to the fortieth episode of The Daily Rings of Power Podcast! We're back today with a rather special episode, as it marks the return of the format where I invite guests on from the Tolkien community to come on and chat about a topic of their choosing. Today I am bringing you a conversation with my good friend Geo (@kingslayars), who is a font of knowledge when it comes to all things medieval literature. We spent a good 3 hours talking about all things Medieval, the influence of that time period on Tolkien's work, and how The Rings of Power has continued to draw upon Medieval tales and ideas. We cover everything from the role of oaths, to the significance of swords, and the place of rings in the tradition of gift giving. On top of that, we also touch on some of the Medieval influences we see in The Rings of Power's costumer, set, and prop design.   Timestamps: Introduction & Reading: 00:10 Welcoming Geo to the show: 4:39 Geo's Introduction to Tolkien: 08:14 Geo's View on TROP: 12:58 What do we mean by Medieval?: 23:39 Medieval Literature, Tolkien & Fantasy: 27:35 Oaths & Chivalry: 45:57 The Oath of Fëanor: 55:59 Oathbreakers: 01:10:08 Ringbearers & Oaths: 01:20:24 Elrond & Durin's Oath: 01:23:08 Míriel's Expedition as a Crusade: 01:35:14 Swords as Symbols: 01:41:30 Galadriel, Her Sword & Chivalry: 01:47:50 Míriel's Gift of a Sword to Elendil: 02:00:56 Galadriel's Gift of a Sword to Theo: 02:04:53 Veils: 02:11:25 Galadriel, Blackwork & Chaucer's Wife of Bath: 02:18:42 Manuscripts, Tapestries & Paintings: 02:23:25 Rings, Gifts & Sauron the Sceadugenga: 02:36:37 Closing Thoughts: 02:53:13 Outro: 02:55:28   Follow us on Twitter for more Rings of Power content: @DailyRoP Follow Geo on Twitter: @kingslayars And subscribe to the podcast on your favourite app: https://linktr.ee/dailyrop Intro & Outro Music : She Moved Through the Fair by Sláinte | https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Slinte  Music promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/  Creative Commons CC BY-SA 3.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/

Sauron becomes an esteemed counselor to the kings of Númenor. He stirs their greed and bids them seek untold riches in the far reaches of the world, including the Ancient Darkness beyond the Edge of the World where dwells Melkor. Ar-Pharazón and the Númenoreans begin worshiping the darkness. Amandil and his son Elendil are part of the Faithful and close to Ar-Pharazón. Amandil is hated by Sauron and is dismissed from the council. Sauron urges Ar-Pharazón to cut down the White Tree, but he will not for fear of the prophecy of Tar-Palantir. Suspecting that this will happen in due time, Isildur, son of Elendil, sneaks to the tree and removes a fruit before being assailed by guards. He escapes and a shoot grows from the fruit. Sauron cuts Nimloth the White Tree and orders the building of a great temple in Armenelos in which the tree is burned and sacrifices are made to Melkor that he would release them from death. 01:50 Dan reads pages 271-274 from the Silmarillion, 2nd Edition 13:46 Summary 15:35 Discussion "Beyond all lay the Ancient Darkness. And out of it the world was made. For Darkness alone is worshipful, and the Lord thereof may yet make other worlds to be gifts to those that serve him, so that the increase of their power shall find no end." Watch this Episode on YouTube Send feedback to beforethefellowship@gmail.com Follow us as we follow Tolkien: TWITTER DISCORD The Rings of Power comes to Amazon, but nothing compares to the real story JRR Tolkien wrote. Jared, Oriana and Ned discuss Ned's choice of topic: The Fall of Númenor. Published in fall of 2022, The Fall of Númenor is the most recent posthumously published collection of Middle-earth writings, acting as an overall guide to the Second Age of Middle-earth, with its key defining moments in Tolkien's legendarium being the fall of the titular kingdom of the Dúnedain and the subsequent Last Alliance's temporary defeat of Sauron. Given that most of the material the book draws on comes from a wide variety of other posthumous Tolkien publications, it can serve as a guide and introduction for those unaware of this deeper history to get a sense of how Tolkien envisioned, however haltingly in some cases, this particular era of his creation. But at the same time, since there is no new material presented in the first place, it can be argued in turn that there is little more here for some readers to learn about, while the fact that it was published in tandem with Amazon's Rings of Power series while not specifically calling attention to the general connection with that series's setting raises further overall questions. Does the book do a service in bringing the story of Aldarion and Erendis back to the fore after some decades, given its particular detail in comparison with the rest of the material presented? Is the choice of Alan Lee to present more illustrations as with other posthumous collections an understandable point of continuity or a sign of relying too much on one particular artistic vision of Middle-earth? Are there any particular details or points of interest that have sometimes been overlooked in Tolkien's conception of his world that come back to the fore more here as a result? What was the purpose of Númenor? In this episode, we explore that question through the lens of the song of Númenor. Many of you know that I have argued that Númenor's purpose went beyond being a mere reward for the descendants of the Edain, and seemed to be filled with symbolism and rituals intended to point them to a greater destiny both in this world and beyond it. "Lovely is Númenor. But my heart resteth not here for ever; for here is ending, and there will be an end and the Fading, when all is counted, and all numbered at last, but yet it will not be enough, not enough. What will the Father, O Father, give me in that day beyond the end when my Sun faileth?"- JRR Tolkien, The Lost Road and Other WritingsWATCH THE VIDEO » https://youtu.be/w5utCO2kIu4 EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS:- Kaitlyn of Tea with Tolkien- John R- Jacob Lockham- John H- Scotchy Bobo- Eru27FOLLOW & SUPPORT US:- https://patreon.com/tolkienroad (get TWO MONTHS FREE for a limited time)- https://twitter.com/tolkienroad- https://truemythspress.com/ (take 10% OFF our merch with promo code LOST320) - https://facebook.com/tolkienroad- https://instagram.com/tolkienroadLINKS & MATHOMS:- take 10% OFF our merch at True Myths Press » https://truemythspress.com/discount/LOST320 (use promo code LOST320)- listen to The Silmarillion for FREE » https://www.audibletrial.com/everon- buy The Silmarillion » https://amzn.to/3FOKAY5- buy The Atlas of Middle-earth » https://amzn.to/3KLOxQa- buy Tolkien's Requiem » https://tolkiensrequiem.com/- buy Tolkien's Overture » https://tolkiensoverture.com/SPECIAL THANKS:- John R- Kaitlyn of Tea with Tolkien- Jacob Lockham- John H- Scotchy Bobo- Eru27- Ms. Anonymous- Andrew T- Redhawk- Shannon S- Brian O- Emilio P- Zeke F- James A- James L- Chris L- Chuck F- Asya V- Ish of the Hammer- Teresa C- David of Pints with Jack- Jonathan D- Eric B- Johanna T- Mike M- Robert H- Paul D- Julia- Werty- Matthew W- JoeBagelMan- Chris K- Jacob S- Richard K- Matt R- Garret P- John W- Eugene D- Chris B- Daniel SAS WELLAS THOSE CELEBRATING THEIR PATRON ANNIVERSARY IN DECEMBER OF 2022 - Zeke F- Shannon S- Emilio P- Brian O- Andrew T- Amy H

In the East, the Stranger meets the mysterious trio, who greets him as "Lord Sauron", whom they are pledged to serve. We have reached the end of our adventure and discuss the finale of The Lord of The Rings The Rings of Power Episode 8 Alloyed in our spoiler filled podcast. The Rings Of Power Episode 8 Alloyed Synopsis Episode Written by Gennifer Hutchison with John D. Payne and Patrick McKay Episode Directed by Wayne Chi Yip Series showrunners John D. Payne and Patrick McKay Based on "The Lord of the Rings" and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien In the East, the white witches known as the Servants of Sauron catch up with The Stranger proclaiming him Lord Sauron, and pledging their service to him so that he may lift the veil of his enemies so he may know himself once again and rule over the lands of Middle-Earth. Nori and the Harfoots also manage to catch up with The Stranger, who has been bound by the Servants of Sauron to keep him from using his powers, which he still has little control over. They manage to free him and help him realise who he really is - he is not Sauron but one of the Istari or wizards. They manage to fend off the Servants of Sauron stealing The Dweller's staff, which the Stranger then uses to banish the trio back to the shadow. Meanwhile, Galadriel and an injured Halbrand arrive in Eregion, much to the surprise of Elrond. The elvish medicine soon has Halbrand on his feet and he seeks out Celebrimbor, the great forger, and in their discussions Halbrand suggests a way of forging the mithril with other metals to enhance its strength. But as Celebrimbor explains what he must do to save the Elves from their diminishing light his choice of words makes Galadriel suspicious of Halbrand's keen interest in the work at the great forge. She checks into the royal lineages of the Southlands. As work progresses in the forge, Galadriel confronts Halbrand with her discovery that he is not from the lineage of the Southland kings, which was broken many years ago. Halbrand reveals himself to be Sauron, and infiltrates her mind to persuade her to become his queen and rule Middle-Earth with him as king, but she refuses. Sauron overpowers Galadriel and flees from Eregion. Keeping what she knows from Elrond and Celebrimbor, she instructs Celebrimbor to forge Three Rings instead of two, so that it brings balance to the holders. Elendil and Míriel arrive back to Númenór to find king Tar-Palantir has died. While back amongst the Harfoots, the Stranger and Nori decide to depart the group and travel east, into Rhûn, to find the “Hermit's Hat” constellation. Unsure which way to go, the Stranger chooses a direction based upon the sweet smell in the air, advising that when in doubt, to "always follow your nose". As their adventure into the East begins, so the journey of Sauron from Eregion finishes as he reaches the Land of Mordor. The Rings Of Power Episode 7 The Eye Synopsis Episode Written by Jason Cahill Episode Directed by Charlotte Brändström Series showrunners John D. Payne and Patrick McKay Based on "The Lord of the Rings" and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien The village is aflame, buried in soot and ash. The survivors make for a nearby hill and the Numenorean base camp, where it is revealed that the Queen Regent Miriel has lost her eyesight, and Elendil begins to realise that his son, Isildur, is lost, presumed dead, after attempting to save people from a burning house. Upon reaching the encampment, Theo who has been accompanied by Galadreil is reunited with Bronwyn and Arondir, and Galadriel is promised further Númenórean support by Miriel to defeat their common enemy, though Elendil is resentful of Galadriel's appearance having brought these events on the Numenoreans and his son. As the Númenóreans depart, a wounded Halbrand, found with a gash in his side, is in urgent need of Elvish medicine, as Galadriel brings him with her back to Lindon.Elsewhere, Nori's caravan finish their migration, but they find the other Harfoots lamenting the destruction of their grove due to the eruption of Orodruin. The Stranger's attempt to mend a tree appears to fail, so Sadoc, leader of the Harfoots, sends him away with a map of his constellation. The following day, however, the entire grove has regrown. While the Harfoots rejoice, they are found by a mysterious trio of Witches in White who are in search of the Stranger. After failing to mislead them, the trio burn the caravans. Wanting to protect their friend, a group of Harfoots set out to warn him. In Khazad-dûm, Elrond offers a deal for the Dwarvish mithril, but King Durin III declines, stating the Elven Age has ended. As Elrond departs, Durin IV witnesses mithril's ability to cure the Elven blight. He brings Elrond and begins to mine for the ore himself. Just as he strikes a massive mithril vein, King Durin arrives and banishes Elrond while also stripping Durin IV of his royal position before sealing the mine, though unbeknownst to him, a Balrog deep underground awakens. In the destroyed Southland village, Adar and his army claim victory and rename the land Mordor. I am a GIANT fan of pretty much anything that has to do with J.R.R. Tolkien!! I started reading with Lord of the Rings all the way back in elementary school! Naturally, I would move onto The Hobbit, and then try my hand at Unfinished Tales, and The Silmarillion! Today's topic is all about the Prime Video series that is expanding this universe in a great way! We're talking about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power! "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an American fantasy television series based on the novel The Lord of the Rings and its appendices by J. R. R. Tolkien. Developed by showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay for the streaming service Prime Video, the series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It is produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with HarperCollins and New Line Cinema, and in consultation with the Tolkien Estate." Getting to learn about Galadriel, Elendil, Elrond, Durin, Isildur, and SO MANY amazing Tolkien universe characters has been great! We're definitely not the kind of podcast that nit picks everything we talk about to death, instead deciding to try and enjoy as much as we can! Yes, this series is not a page by page depiction of what happens in the 2nd age, but there is no possible way that it could be, with the rights that were purchased. Instead, it's visually appealing, the acting is fine, and it's expanding something that we as nerds love. All of those points are enough for us to sit back and enjoy what we're seeing on our TV screens! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android |  Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! The next morning, Frodo wakes up early and meets Gandalf and Bilbo as he walks about the grounds of Elrond's house. They attend the Council together with Sam following behind, though he was not invited. There are many there already, including Elrond, Glorfindel, and Strider/Aragorn, as well as Men, Elves, and Dwarves unknown to Frodo. Glóin, one of the Dwarves, shares that a horseman from Mordor had come to them, asking about hobbits, and promising them magic rings of power if they showed Sauron friendship. Glóin has been sent to warn Bilbo that the Enemy is seeking him and his Ring. Elrond says the purpose of the Council is to answer the question of what is to be done with the Ring Sauron seeks. At this point, Elrond shares the entire history of the Ring, and how, in the Second Age of the world, Sauron forged the One Ring in secret to control all other rings of power, which had been made for use by Elves, Dwarves, and Men. He tells of how Gil-galad and Elendil fought Sauron and overthrew him, and how Isildur cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand. However, rather than destroy the Ring, Isildur claimed it as his own and was soon "betrayed by it to his death." The shards of Narsil, Elendil's sword, were given to Isildur's heir Valandil. The One Ring was lost, and in its absence, the Elves used their three rings to make beautiful things. The finding of the One Ring threatens all of these beautiful things, Elrond tells them. Boromir, a Man of Gondor, then tells his tale. Because Gondor is near Mordor, the growing power of the Enemy has already begun to affect that land. Amidst these rising tensions, Boromir and his brother Faramir (the sons of Denethor, Steward of Gondor) both have had the same prophetic dream, and they do not fully understand what it means. He has come to seek Elrond's wisdom on the matter. One of the references in Boromir's dream is to the "sword that was broken." Aragorn stands and displays his own sword, which everyone can see is broken in two pieces. When Boromir asks him who he is, Elrond interrupts, saying Aragorn is "descended through many fathers from Isildur Elendil's son of Minas Ithil." Aragorn reveals the sword is Narsil, and asks Boromir, "Do you wish for the House of Elendil to return to the Land of Gondor?" Bilbo interrupts, and so Elrond calls upon him to tell his part of the story next. He describes how he found the Ring: he had engaged in a game of riddles with Gollum, who had accidentally dropped the Ring, only to be picked up by Bilbo. Then Frodo tells of all that had happened since he acquired it. Both Legolas and Gandalf fill in gaps in understanding: first, Legolas tells the Council, Gollum, who had been held captive by the Elves, has escaped; then, Gandalf tells how Saruman, the head of the wizards' council, has betrayed them and seeks the Ring for his own use. Indeed, Gandalf reveals, Saruman imprisoned him on the pinnacle of Orthanc before he was rescued by an eagle. Then the assembled Company debates what should be done with the Ring. Some would like to hide it, or throw it in the sea. Boromir suggests using it for good ends. Elrond maintains the Ring cannot simply be hidden; it cannot be used for good; it must be destroyed in the fire of its forging. It is unclear who will take up this task, but finally Frodo says he will take the Ring to Mordor to destroy it. Elrond says Sam may go with Frodo. The Fellowship of the Ring: Written by J.R.R. Tolkien. Soundtrack composed by Howard Shore. Audiobook narrated, produced, and edited by Phil Dragash. Art by Jian Guo.

Today Chase & Josh close out The Fellowship of the Ring in it's entirety as we compare the second half of the novel (as well as the first chapter of The Two Towers) to the Extended Edition Part 2 film!   Tag along as we discuss some of the notable differences found between the movie and the book such as; The reforging of Elendil's sword and Aragorn taking it straight from Rivendell, who the Crebain report to, who manipulates the weather on the mountain Caradhras, the Fellowship being attacked by a pack of wolves prior to their trip into Moria, who it was that disturbs the lake before the mountain's entrance, which creature spears Frodo, how the company enters Lothlórien, the incorporation of a lead Uruk-hai, and an all out battle scene that we get to visually witness.   With The Riddikulus Crew notating the main differences that stood out to them individually, providing their thoughts on the second half of The Fellowship of the Ring, giving their takeaways on the first installment of the series as a whole and providing a numeric ranking score for both the novel and the film, stay tuned!   'At that moment there was a twang of bowstrings: several arrows whistled over them, and some fell among them.  One smote Frodo between the shoulders and he lurched forward with a cry, letting go his paddle: but the arrow fell back, foiled by his hidden coat of mail.  Another passed through Aragorn's hood; and a third stood fast in the gunwale of the second boat, close by Merry's hand.  Sam thought he could glimpse black figures running to and fro upon the long shingle-banks that lay under the eastern shore.  They seemed very near.'
