How do you prefer “living” your life, as fiction or nonfiction? Eric uses fictional Ozempic in accordance with his non-fiction finances. Other conversational tangents include makeup trends, the lifespans of various generations, disco naps, the fine falsetto of the Bee Gees, Emily Heller (no relation), passwords, of note holidays like Bathtub Party Day and Pawnbrokers Day, and the quaint system that is the Dewey Decimal System (also PSA: get your library card so you can use Hoopla and Canopy to stream content). It's no secret that phone use in school is a controversial topic. Should they be allowed or should they be banned? Ally Fass, Sloane Meyers, Emily Heller, and Jenna Dankner ask members of the High School East community their thoughts on phone jail.
It's Monday, November 4th, 2024 and welcome to Hills Review -- the High School East Student Podcast. Each year, the beauty industry generates over five-hundred billion dollars worth of revenue. Its impact is widespread, however, the influence it has isn't always a positive one. This Tuesday, Ambika Mathura explores the negative effects the beauty industry has on women. "Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive." These are just a few words that have been used to discuss Robert Greene's best-selling book: The 48 Laws of Power. On Wednesday, Jayden Muniz and Akash Shah discuss the book's most interesting ideas and try to determine just how seriously one should take these laws. In a society where communication is key, children growing up with non-english speaking parents face incredible challenges. This Thursday, Jeremiah Cesaire takes a close look at the impact having such responsibility can have on kids. It's no secret that phone use in school is a controversial topic. Should they be allowed or should they be banned? This Friday, Ally Fass, Sloane Meyers, Emily Heller, and Jenna Dankner ask members of the High School East community their thoughts on phone jail. Whether you're a fashionista or a dELIa*s-ista, we've got something for you on this nineties-fashion-forward episode of the podcast thanks to our guest, writer/comedian Emily Heller. Emily comes by the pod to discuss the time 11-year-old Emily wrote a complaint letter to then-president Bill Clinton about her gym teacher who she later found out was actually Zendaya's dad? We also discuss how she made a zine out of some of her childhood momentos (including the infamous letter) and how New Moon magazine inspired her as a kid. Plus, we dig deep into the cultural impact of the dELIa*s catalog and how it's style impacted pop-culture. And speaking of style, Jonah comes clean about his Girbaud Jeans-phase and Emily discusses her parents' confusion about the nineties thrift-store aesthetic. Finally we play an unforgettable game of YES/NO-STALGIA where we discuss the return of wearing vests as shirts, slip dresses and the incredibly polarizing bucket hat. So put on your chicest ill-fitting hat and check it out! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On the HBO show Barry, for which comedian Emily Heller is a writer, there is a great deal of suspense, gunfire, and overall tension, which would make it hard for those characters to ever get any sleep. And come to think of it, we never see them do so. Fortunately, in real life, Emily has interests that are much more pastoral. She enrolled in a program by which she replaced her lawn with a variety of plants that are much better for water usage in Los Angeles and then the city reimbursed her for the project. It's all part of a grant program that Emily will explain in long, soothing detail.Hey Sleepy Heads, is there anyone whose voice you'd like to drift off to, or do you have suggestions on things we could do to aid your slumber? “it takes a psycho” (April 30, 2023) Barry is not a sitcom, though it was frequently one of the funnier shows on TV. We're doing a bonus summer episode about it anyway because its gay character, NoHo Hank, is a rarity on TV because he's both a villain and a person who doesn't let his sexuality define him. That's not necessarily a good thing, but we're all about complex, messy queer characters, and this is one people should be talking about. Special thanks to Emily Heller for sharing her recollections of working on the show. SPOILER WARNING: We will talk about major plot points from Barry through season three, episode four. We have one job: it's to pick a Most Evil Guy. Yet we failed to do it again. Why? This episode is a crazytimesh*tshow (that's the name of the episode, we can't cut that!). Season 3, Episode 5 of BARRY gives us a lot to talk about, whether directly (Albert is back...somehow) or indirectly (Rhi builds her Barbie Supreme Court of funny TV ladies). We break down every photo in Barry's creativity collage for Sally, criticize The Algorithm, and encourage Emily Heller to secret-tweet us the mermaid emoji if she can in fact take credit for coming up with "BanShe." If you don't like this episode, then it was a deep fake after all. Most Evil Guy is a fancast about the show BARRY on HBO, co-created by Bill Hader and Alec Berg. Each episode of the podcast covers one episode of the show. We end each episode with a Body Count and our Most Evil Guy. We strive to keep our episodes spoiler-free for those just finding the series. Language isn't PG, but also not as bad as the actual show. Episodes drop biweekly on Tuesdays. Write to us at mostevilguy@gmail.com. Butterfly feeding connoisseur, veteran houseboat technician, and absolutely hilarious writer/comedian, Emily Heller, steps in for her inaugural visit to the executive buffet!
Emily Heller (comedian, writer) gets blocked by a comedian who took a turn for the worse at some point and ended up at January 6th. Whether Emily was blocked pre-January 6th or not, an inflammatory tweet on the fateful day sealed it, and she lived to tell the Tale. She also lives to tell us a bunch more stuff, as we chat about pull-out couches, doormats, writing jokes in our dreams, and we learn an awful lot about hot peppers. Elsewhere, we also chat about Tarot TikTok, our friend dril has a great tweet about the state of Twitter, and Stefan shows us a truly cursed promoted tweet reply. And if that's not enough, John and Emily's recent friendship over Jeopardy! explodes in the Top 3 and we decide that we may have to start an entire podcast about it. If you want more and varied episodes of this podcast, head on over to patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month. Last week, we posted two great episodes, one for our $8 and above donors where John watched Goodfellas for the first time and dissected it with our friend Dan O'Sullivan, and another which was the first in a new series we're calling Heck/Cullen, where John and Stefan do a bit more of a serious-style interview with one of our more interesting friends. Episode 1 featured Steve Sladkowski from PUP, and it was a blast! We've also got merch discounts, a great Discord, and more, so check it out! Emily Heller is primarily a writer who you can follow on Twitter at @mremilyheller and you can listen to her podcast, Baby Geniuses, wherever you get your pods. Emily Heller, one of my favorite people, is back on the show! In this episode we talk all about the 2022 running shoe revolution. It was a year that was paradigm shifting in many ways. Emily's YouTube channel, Run Like Heller, has some of the best shoe reviews on the internet so she was the perfect person to help break it all down. Specifically we dove into the new super max category, the explosion of new and varied carbon plates, a new and exciting take on stability shoes, and the elimination of lightness as a proxy for speed. It started with an email in 2017 and ends with a March Madness-style ranking of minor Frasier characters! TV writer and “Baby Geniuses” host Emily Heller joins Anita for an epic character showdown. From Maris vs. Bebe Glazer to Baby the cockatoo vs. “Wine Club,” the competition is fierce AND controversial. Following Emily's March Madness rules, a minor character must have appeared in at least 2 episodes and “wine club” counts as a character. She also spills the deets on lunch with Peri Gilpin, buying a chair formerly owned by David Hyde Pierce, Joe Keenan's advice on writing farce, and “Frasier sleepers.” Learn more about your ad choices. This week's episode is a potluck, and Lovett or Leave It is bringing the bananas. Joel Kim Booster, Jenny Yang and Emily Heller talk rom-coms in a segment slow-cooked to perfection from a recent Dynasty Typewriter show. Lovett fills up on audience questions, while Crooked's own in-house cranks rant about in-flight films, late-night anxiety, and the eternal dessert rivalry between chips and nuts. Stick a fork in us. We're done. For a closed-captioned version of this episode, click here. For a transcript of this episode, please email transcripts@crooked.com and include the name of the podcast.
