Are Some Believers Overly Scrupulous? (Romans 14:14–23)

Send us a textWelcome: This episode explores the tension between Christian freedom and individual conscience. Drawing from Romans 14:14–23, we look at how Paul addresses the differences between believers who feel free in amoral matters (like food or drink) and those whose consciences are more sensitive. Rather than judging one another, Paul calls Christians to walk in love, especially when their liberty might cause others to stumble. This is not legalism—it's kingdom-minded maturity. Two Key Principles (Romans 14:14–15):“Nothing is unclean in itself” (v.14) — Amoral things are not inherently sinful. But if a person believes it's wrong, it becomes sinful for them.“You are no longer acting in love” (v.15) — Causing someone grief or to stumble due to your actions, even if permissible, is unloving.Three Key Conclusions:Verse 16 – Don't let your good (freedom) be spoken of as evil. Love may mean yielding your rights.Verse 19 – Pursue peace and mutual edification. Build up rather than tear down.Verse 22 – Keep your convictions between yourself and God. Don't parade your liberty if it harms others.Kingdom Priorities (v.17): The Kingdom of God isn't about eating or drinking—it's about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Spiritual joy is greater than momentary indulgence.Final Reflection: Walking in love might mean giving up things you're free to enjoy—out of care for others' spiritual growth. That's not legalism, that's maturity. It's the difference between worldly wisdom and the peaceable wisdom James 3 speaks of.Quote from James 3: “The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable…”Main Takeaway: True Christian maturity isn't about asserting your rights—it's about laying them down in love to protect the conscience and growth of your fellow believers.Call to Action: Consider areas in your life where your freedom might be misunderstood or become a stumbling block. Are you walking in love?Subscribe to TBPDP Stay connected as we walk through the Book of Romans and learn to apply God's Word in real, practical ways.Support the Podcast: [https://www.patreon.com/JeremyMcCandless]Support the showFor an ad-free version of my podcasts plus the opportunity to enjoy hours of exclusive content and two bonus episodes a month whilst also helping keep the Bible Project Daily Podcast free for listeners everywhere support me at;|PatreonSupport me to continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

Psychologen beim Frühstück---Jeden Sonntag---Ab 9.00

Na? Etwas Casu Marzu (Madenkäse) oder Balut (angebrütete Eier) zum Frühstück? Nein? Eklig?

Do you judge your choices based on what is considered valid and acceptable by others? Are you trying to fit into society's definition of who, what and how you are supposed to be? In this episode of Choice, Change and Action, Simone Milasas talks with Graeme Crosscuddles about stepping out of definition and into question, to start choosing what works for you. When you live in a structure of how you have to be, that doesn't enable you to access all the things that could actually work for you and allow you to be joyful. The second you define something, you literally stop the future possibilities of what else could show up.  The future is not predictable. What if you came out of defining what you are, who you are, when you are and you started being in question? That's the exploration and the adventure of living.  Keys to success Everybody Has A Different Perspective Be Totally Present And In The Question What Else Would You Like To Ask For? I will demand from every human being an accounting for the life of his fellow human being. 6 Whoever sheds human blood, by a human being will his own blood be shed; for God made human beings in his image. 7 And you people, be fruitful, multiply, swarm on the earth and multiply on it."13 Everyone is to obey the governing authorities. For there is no authority that is not from God, and the existing authorities have been placed where they are by God. 2 Therefore, whoever resists the authorities is resisting what God has instituted; and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are no terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you like to be unafraid of the person in authority? Then simply do what is good, and you will win his approval; 4 for he is God's servant, there for your benefit. But if you do what is wrong, be afraid! Because it is not for nothing that he holds the power of the sword; for he is God's servant, there as an avenger to punish wrongdoers. 5 Another reason to obey, besides fear of punishment, is for the sake of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes; for the authorities are God's public officials, constantly attending to these duties. 7 Pay everyone what he is owed: if you owe the tax-collector, pay your taxes; if you owe the revenue-collector, pay revenue; if you owe someone respect, pay him respect; if you owe someone honor, pay him honor. 8 Don't owe anyone anything — except to love one another; for whoever loves his fellow human being has fulfilled Torah. 9 For the commandments, "Don't commit adultery," "Don't murder," "Don't steal," "Don't covet,"[a] and any others are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself."[b] 10 Love does not do harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fullness of Torah.

Welcome To Hotel BohemiaEccentric. Rebellious. Amoral, quite often. But bohemianism was, maybe still is, about much more than just frightening the horses. The writer Virginia Nicholson recently told the Today programme that "in a sense, we are all bohemians today".But what is a bohemian, how do you spot one, and might you be a boho, too?"Bohemian" was originally a term with pejorative undertones given to Roma gypsies, commonly believed by the French to have originated in Bohemia, in central Europe. The Oxford English Dictionary's definition mentions someone "especially an artist, literary man, or actor, who leads a free, vagabond, or irregular life, not being particular as to the society he frequents, and despising conventionalities generally".But the connotation rapidly became a romantic one. From its birth in Paris in the 1850s, and the huge success of Murgier's play Scenes de la vie de Boheme, the ethic spread rapidly.Gypsy clothes became all the fashion, sparking a style which lives on today through lovers of boho-chic like Sienna Miller and Kate Moss. And artists and poets from Baudelaire to van Gogh characterised bohemian ideals. Its foundations in the Romantic movement of the 19th Century imbued bohemians with an almost quasi-religious sense of purpose. In Puccini's opera La Boheme, the poet Rodolfo and his friends do not shiver in their Parisian garret where Mimi's hand is famously frozen merely because of their poverty. Theirs, as Rodolfo has it, is a higher, if more sensual, calling.I am a poet! What's my employment? Writing. Is that a living? Hardly.I've wit though wealth be wanting,Ladies of rank and fashionAll inspire me with passion; In dreams and fond illusions,Or castles in the air,Richer is none on earth than I.Although steeped in its French roots, the bohemian ideal transferred easily to many countries and cultures. In Britain, the pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the aesthetic movement of the 19th Century imbued bohemianism with a dangerous, dashing, social cachet. Later, the exploits of the Bloomsbury group - one of whom was Nicholson's grandmother, Vanessa Bell - thrust it into the cultural limelight.Across the Atlantic, poets and writers like Jack Kerouac, William S Burroughs and Paul Bowles led their own offshoot. And the playwright Arthur Miller's prose conjures the musty essence of that temple of American bohemia, Manhattan's Chelsea Hotel, where "there are no vacuum cleaners, no rules and shame"."Everyone has a view of what the bohemian is," says Nicholson. "The bohemian is an outsider, defines themselves as an outsider and is defined by the world as an outsider... A lot of people regard them as subversive, elitist and possibly just a little bit immature."Bohemians were typically urban, liberal in outlook, but with few visible political passions and, above all, creative. Though critical of organised religion, they were keen - witness the pre-Raphaelites and Oscar Wilde - to defend and explore the religious spirit.Above all, they defied the constrictions of hearth and home and the false morality which they believed underpinned it.In essence, bohemianism represented a personal, cultural and social reaction to the bourgeois life. And, once the latter was all but swept away by the maelstrom that was the 1960s, the former was doomed, too.UNTIL NOW!!!!&a

In this episode, Alex reacts to the TikTok sensation that is Gail Lewis, the Walmart employee from Illinois that signed off after ten years of duty. Alex genuinely enjoys this video and talks about why it actually is what America needs right now. Next, Alex takes a deep dive into Henry Kissinger, who died at the age of 100 on Wednesday night. He argues that Kissinger was a complicated and (maybe) morally corrupt figure that was highly involved in almost every layer of the Cold War. Finally, Alex talks about a fascinating situation unfolding on the Finnish-Russian border. The Finnish government has shut down the border for two weeks due to fears of Russia sending migrants and asylum seekers into Finland to cause political instability. Finland is the latest country to join NATO.

Her story sheds light on the nuanced ways in which the target can be disarmed and the challenge of setting boundaries and regaining control.

We live in a "yes" world. There is so much to do, and as mostly middle class Americans, we are in a position to say yes to so many things. And for the most part, we seem to try to. After all, we don't want to miss out! No, I don't mean sinful things. But sometimes it feels like we are trying to indulge in and experience pretty much everything else. I wonder if a first century Christian could even fathom a life like that. I doubt most of them would be interested in it at all. They were very clear on their identity and it showed. Are you? Am I? Next week we will look at dangerous spiritual decisions, and what has to happen for you to say no to them. But in some ways today's topic is harder. It is about more normal, daily decisions:  how you use your time or money. What you pursue as a passion and what you have to ignore in order to get that done. Do you say "no"? And what I the filter system, the identity system, you use to get to a point to decline something that seems great?  Let's get uncomfortable and explore!- Does your life seem overly full of "good" things that distract from "great" things?- Do you, like me, struggle to say no to opportunities?- Do you have the FOMO problem in a world where there is so much to do?- By what metric do you say NO to things? I mean things that are not even morally wrong?- Does your identity as a Christian have a heavy influence on what you choose to do with your time, money and life?

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is Introduction to Game Theory, Part 6: What Is Signaling, Really?, published by Scott Alexander. The most commonly used introduction to signaling, promoted both by Robin Hanson and in The Art of Strategy, starts with college degrees. Suppose, there are two kinds of people, smart people and stupid people; and suppose, with wild starry-eyed optimism, that the populace is split 50-50 between them. Smart people would add enough value to a company to be worth a $100,000 salary each year, but stupid people would only be worth $40,000. And employers, no matter how hard they try to come up with silly lateral-thinking interview questions like “How many ping-pong balls could fit in the Sistine Chapel?”, can't tell the difference between them. Now suppose a certain college course, which costs $50,000, passes all smart people but flunks half the stupid people. A strategic employer might declare a policy of hiring (for a one year job; let's keep this model simple) graduates at $100,000 and non-graduates at $40,000. Why? Consider the thought process of a smart person when deciding whether or not to take the course. She thinks “I am smart, so if I take the course, I will certainly pass. Then I will make an extra $60,000 at this job. So my costs are $50,000, and my benefits are $60,000. Sounds like a good deal.” The stupid person, on the other hand, thinks: “As a stupid person, if I take the course, I have a 50% chance of passing and making $60,000 extra, and a 50% chance of failing and making $0 extra. My expected benefit is $30,000, but my expected cost is $50,000. I'll stay out of school and take the $40,000 salary for non-graduates.” ...assuming that stupid people all know they're stupid, and that they're all perfectly rational experts at game theory, to name two of several dubious premises here. Yet despite its flaws, this model does give some interesting results. For example, it suggests that rational employers will base decisions upon - and rational employees enroll in - college courses, even if those courses teach nothing of any value. So an investment bank might reject someone who had no college education, even while hiring someone who studied Art History, not known for its relevance to derivative trading. We'll return to the specific example of education later, but for now it is more important to focus on the general definition that X signals Y if X is more likely to be true when Y is true than when Y is false. Amoral self-interested agents after the $60,000 salary bonus for intelligence, whether they are smart or stupid, will always say “Yes, I'm smart” if you ask them. So saying “I am smart” is not a signal of intelligence. Having a college degree is a signal of intelligence, because a smart person is more likely to get one than a stupid person. Life frequently throws us into situations where we want to convince other people of something. If we are employees, we want to convince bosses we are skillful, honest, and hard-working. If we run the company, we want to convince customers we have superior products. If we are on the dating scene, we want to show potential mates that we are charming, funny, wealthy, interesting, you name it. In some of these cases, mere assertion goes a long way. If I tell my employer at a job interview that I speak fluent Spanish, I'll probably get asked to talk to a Spanish-speaker at my job, will either succeed or fail, and if I fail will have a lot of questions to answer and probably get fired - or at the very least be in more trouble than if I'd just admitted I didn't speak Spanish to begin with. Here society and its system of reputational penalties help turn mere assertion into a credible signal: asserting I speak Spanish is costlier if I don't speak Spanish than if I do, and so is believable. In other cases, mere assertion doesn't work. If I'm ...

Tim Heisterkamp, certified financial planner, talks about wealth management, and how the habits of saving money and preserving wealth are generally the same amongst those who ave been successful.  He drops useful foundational knowledge such as; money isn't evil, the love of money is.  Money is AMORAL, meaning it itself has no moral value until it takes on the morality of its user.  It is up to you what character money takes on.  Surprising to me, he mentions how the #1 motivating factor to create healthy wealth habits is FEAR, based on self-preservation and survival, which makes people live within their means vs overextend themselves with money they don't have.  WISDOM, and understanding the money habits that creates exponential growth is the second most motivating factor in his experience, once you know, you can't unknow true knowledge.  After that, it's up to you to apply it.  That is when knowledge becomes wisdom. Principles mentioned include:-Save 10% of what you make -Delay instant gratification - don't go in debt to buy too many expensive things-Understand the exponential compounding growth of money via interest, and how much more interest can work for you when you start saving as soon as you can. -Understand different retirement accounts and how more than one can help you, such as "tax deferred" accounts vs "after tax" accounts (Tim calls them "tax never accounts" because they aren't taxed upon withdrawal like tax deferred accounts are).-AUTOMATE your savings.-JUST START, don't despise meager beginnings, start with $25/month if you can. -LOTS MORE.Tune and turn it up!
